appreciate the heads-up on another thread.

She has signed with Swiss champion Volero Zurich.

She will wear No. 17, which was her number at UH as well as the number of her grandfather’s ship during WWII. Grandfather, Royal George Hartong, was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. Ship he was on was the USS. Montgomery, No. 17.

Grandfather’s dream was that she play for Hawaii, her father once told me. Grandfather died in January of 2011. Got to see her matches as a freshman on DVDs.

They will love her in Switzerland almost as much as we love her in Hawaii! Volero Zurich has become my favorite European team. Thanks LG about the status of Hagglund , I consider her the best defensive player I have seen play at the Stan.

It’s the off season for Volero Zurich. Hagglund joins them for the first time when their new season starts, see article on their web site.

Thompson played for them in the previous season and I assume she’s returning haven’t heard anything to the contrary.

Here is the link to their official site. Google Translate does a decent job with it. They also have a twitter acct. and Facebook page in English. They haven’t made any announcement on Hartong yet but it should be there by Monday.

    FANTASTIC!

    Emily is one terrific WAHINE!

I’m certain that Emily had guidance from Robyn. Volero Zurich was the last pro club that Robyn set for and was named the Most Outstanding Player in (not certain) her final year.

I watched the 2014 World Club Championships on TV. Volero Zurich has very good outsides. Carcaces is a really strong terminator and Granvorka a good passer. Courtney Thompson was the starting setter, but she was subbed out fairly regularly in a situational 6-2 or when she was struggling. They competed for the Bronze, but was defeated by the Brazil club team that had Fabiana Claudino as team captain.

Granvorka retired in May and Carcaces went to Molico Nestlé ( Brazil ). A few others left but they’ve been reloading.

That should open up a spot for Hartong. Even if she isn’t a starter, they could slowly bring her in. Is Thompson staying with Volero Zurich?

Is there a limit to the number of foreigners on each team?
