COMMENTS

  1. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 9:42 am

WHAT? UH might have to face USC in the semis?

  2. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 9:44 am

Cindy one of UH Facebook’s page has them facing the winner of FIU/FSU.

  3. uhfan May 2, 2014 9:45 am

I thought the USC/FIU winner would face Pepperdine

  4. uhfan May 2, 2014 9:45 am

    Oh this is confusing

  5. WhyWhat May 2, 2014 9:46 am

The AVCA bracket they put out would have winner of FIU vs FSU play against Hawai’i for a championship spot. Is that wrong?

  6. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 9:47 am

Yea even USC’s twitter has them playing pepperdine if they beat Stetson, Cindy?

  7. Brandon May 2, 2014 9:47 am

    5. You’re right.
Fiu vs hawaii was game 1
Stenson vs fsu was game 2
Uh vs usc was game 3
Pepp vs fsu was game 4

Losers of game 4 and 1, play each other
Losers of game 3 and 2 play eachother.

  8. Cindy Luis May 2, 2014 9:50 am

the way I read the bracket there was no crossover. I could be wrong. it is confusing

  9. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 9:52 am

Is tomorrow double elimination as well? kind of unfair if it isn’t, USC IMO should be out of it completely already.

  10. Brandon May 2, 2014 9:56 am

    10. Agreed. It won’t be fair. All the teams that lost today or yesterday still have a chance, but if UH or Pepp lose, they’re out for good.

  11. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 9:56 am

It should be UH vs Pepperdine for the championship already! both 2-0 .

  12. WhyWhat May 2, 2014 9:56 am

Double elimination until Final Four. Sudden death after that.

  13. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 9:57 am

    13. that IMO is dumb, of course I wouldn’t mind that had UH lost today.

  14. Cindy Luis May 2, 2014 9:59 am

    It’s a double-eliminaiton event
so let’s look at the bracket
    Match 1 #4 Hawai’i v. #5 Florida International. UH wins

Match 2 #3 Florida State v. #6 Stetson, FSU wins

noon #1 USC v. Hawaii, UH wins

    1 p.m. #2 Pepperdine v. Winner #3/#6 Pepperdine def. FSU

Match 5 Loser #4/#5 (FIU) v. Loser of 1:00 p.m. match. FIU vs. FSU

Match 6 Loser #3/#6 (Stetson) v. Loser of 12:00 p.m. match Stetson vs. USC

    Saturday, May 3

    11:00 a.m. Semi-Final #1

    12:00 p.m. Semi-Final #2

    3:30 p.m. Championship Match

  15. Andrew May 2, 2014 10:00 am

If they do face USC again in the semis at least USC will have to beat UH twice in order to advance since it is double elimination.

  16. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 10:02 am

is it double elimination tomorrow or lose and your done??

  17. Who's Confused? May 2, 2014 10:09 am

    15. You’re not the only one, Cin.
    😉

  18. Cindy Luis May 2, 2014 10:27 am

    6. thank you for the updated bracket.
Hawaii will play winner of FSU-FIU Saturday
    Pepperdine plays winner of USC-Stetson

  19. Robin May 2, 2014 10:47 am

HI plays winner of FSU-FIU tomorrow
Pepp plays winner of USC-Stet tomorrow

from the looks of the bracket, it is NOT a true double elimination tournament in that if automatic semifinal spot winners Hawaii or Pepperdine lose tomorrow, there is no rematch with the same team (have to lose 2x) to be out. Tomorrow is single elimination semifinals and finals, as far as I can see- don’t see any conditionals on tomorrows bracket.

  21. 808 May 2, 2014 10:52 am

16/Andrew. Hawaii won’t face USC again unless they meet in the finals. And it’s sudden death from the final 4 on so USC doesn’t have to be UH twice.

17/formerlywarriorfan. Tomorrow is the final 4 — lose and you’re out. No double elimination tomorrow.

  22. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 10:56 am

gotta go 2-0 again tomorrow, hope that cooks win two trophies tomorrow, hate loyola.

  23. Andrew May 2, 2014 11:07 am

I hope they change that format when they switch over to being an NCAA sport. Having a double elim first round/second round but then a single elim semi doesn’t make sense.

  24. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 11:09 am

hear hear, I hope they will change it and expand to more teams.

  25. setaone May 2, 2014 11:22 am

The sudden death Final Four is the format that the AVP uses (as did the FIVB when there was no Pool Play). There is never a chance of a double final in the AVP.

  26. lkapulani May 2, 2014 11:50 am

every team knows how they must qualify to get to nationals…and every team knows what happens when they get there…if hawaii just takes care of business like we all know they can…no prob…so far they have taken care of business or… lose early???…just win every match !!! it is what it is…go sandbows go !!!

  27. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 11:53 am

So tomorrows match against FIU or FSU will be at 6 am hawaii time.
Gotta be another early morning for me.

  28. lkapulani May 2, 2014 11:58 am

    28. i believe u r correct…at least not as early as 2day…dats on da bright side…if dat a bright side???…lol

  29. uhfan May 2, 2014 12:08 pm

FSU wins and play the wahine tomorrow 11 am CT

  30. Brandon May 2, 2014 12:11 pm

Gonna be a tough match against fsu, but the wahine can do it. Just gotta play hard.

  31. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 12:16 pm

not as tough as it would have been against Pepperdine, Wahine can do it.

  32. mainlandgal May 2, 2014 12:56 pm

GO SANDBOWS!!! Way to step on the courts today and play YOUR game!! You ladies ROCK!!

  33. uhfan May 2, 2014 1:04 pm

USC beats Stetson and will face Pepperdine tomorrow

  34. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 1:13 pm

Anyone think there might be a stream of tomorrow? or livestats?

  35. Cindy Luis May 2, 2014 1:13 pm

Thanks again for all the help Touney will be expanded as early as next year NCAA should be taking it over by 2016

  36. Brandon May 2, 2014 2:10 pm

I expect stanford to start building a good beach team. Stanford itself is a draw for students and if they can get kerri to coach, they should be even more set.

  37. setaone May 2, 2014 2:16 pm

Kerri won’t be there until after Rio in 2016 (if at all). She has her family in Southern Cal. Pretty sure if she wanted to coach, any school would take her.

  38. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 2:19 pm

    37. uh okay that came out of nowhere. Kerri won’t give up her endorsement money and playing career to coach the stanford beach team, not for 5-6 years at least.

Anyway out of all the teams in the final four, UH is the youngest, only losing Cook and maybe Ali Longo 🙁

  39. Brandon May 2, 2014 2:22 pm

    39. Cindy was talking about expanding, and how the ncaa will take it over. So I was saying the possible teams that could be good.

  40. formerlywarriorfan May 2, 2014 2:27 pm

I fully expect the top teams in the west to continue to remain to be Pepp, USC and UH with UCLA joining them in elite status soon (they are getting a ton of talent in the next few years)
Long beach will be alright but not as good as those four.

  41. lkapulani May 2, 2014 3:00 pm

    41…agreed…zana muno for 1
    41. aggreed…zana muno (notre dame hs, so cal) for 1 to ucla this coming yr or the next…ck out sklar caputo (mira costa hs, so ca) standout… to pepperdine also in the next couple yrs…

  42. uhfan May 2, 2014 3:35 pm

  43. Cindy Luis May 2, 2014 3:37 pm

thanks. was speaking with Wong and was going to get to the link after.

  44. Cubicle1126 May 2, 2014 3:49 pm

Will be an exciting championship weekend. Good luck sand bows. Hopefully 3rd time’s the charm against Pepperdine.

I feel like the men’s final was played yesterday. Loyola is no doubt a good team. They’ve got an experienced team having a tremendous season. But if they win tomorrow – and it’s certainly possible since they’ve got “home” court advantage – they would’ve only had to play one MPSF team, and incidentally, only one team ranked in the top 10.

  45. Ran May 2, 2014 4:28 pm

If the Wahine win the overall title, I hope there will be a special ceremony to recognize them, don’t you agree?

  46. Brandon May 2, 2014 4:45 pm

    45. Do you mean in the tournament or their overall season?

Dang that hit by Ginger Long was impressive!

  49. FormerlyWarriorfan May 3, 2014 4:37 am

Yep, so was Olivia’s big hit.

  50. vballfreak808 May 3, 2014 5:50 am

    Hawaii vs. Florida State Line-Up
    Ct.1: Tiegs/Cook vs. Pardon Davis
    Ct.2: Taylor/Spieler vs. Pellitteris
    Ct.3: Long/Longo vs. Wickstrom/Yildirim
    Ct.4: Chow/Urban vs. Brown Pavels
    Ct.5: Riggs/Tucker vs. Sanchez/Luke

  51. FormerlyWarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:01 am

I am pretty shocked that Jackaon/Johnson from Long Beach are out already in pool play for the individual pairing championship.

  52. Setaone May 3, 2014 6:17 am

Does anyone know when they announce the All Americans?

  53. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:17 am

Darn UH trailing in most of the matches early.

  54. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:18 am

    53. I think it’s just before the championship game.

  55. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:20 am

Not looking good early, come on wahine.

  56. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:26 am

Britt/Karissa only UH pair to win the first set. Really need Spieler/Taylor to step it up and win set 2 and 3, and same with Ginger/Aly.

  57. Cubicle1126 May 3, 2014 6:27 am

cook/tiegs win set 1, but all other wahine team lost the first set and will now have to battle and come from behind ….

    c’mon sand bows !!

  58. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:29 am

okay better starts in sets 2, come on ladies keep it up!

  59. Cubicle1126 May 3, 2014 6:36 am

warriorfan — where are you following the live action? i’ve only found avca twitter…

  60. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:37 am

yes! Chow/Urban and Riggs/Tucker win second sets, way to go, now we are cooking.

  61. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:38 am

Damn longo/Long did lose and Uh is now trailing 1-0

  64. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:39 am

    67 – per Uh and FSU twitter, spieler/Taylor lost set 2 19-21
FSU leads dual 2-0, need 1 more win to take match

  69. Cubicle1126 May 3, 2014 6:43 am

    thanks fwf

  70. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:44 am

not looking good folks, FSU up big in third set on Chow/Urban 🙁

  71. tiffers May 3, 2014 6:51 am

FSU wins court 5 on a service ace to take dual match 3-0 over Hawai’i

  72. Cubicle1126 May 3, 2014 6:52 am

looks like chow/urban lost in the 3rd set.

congrats to FSU, for advancing to the finals.

great season and effort by the wahine! just came up short today. props to all the teams for battling hard though!

  73. lkapulani May 3, 2014 6:55 am

    i second da motion 73

  74. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:58 am

shoots, at least they made the final four.
I now see Pepp/USC winning it all.

  75. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 6:59 am

Hoping Tiegs/Cook can win the individual championship tomorrow.

  76. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 7:06 am

Dang Tiegs/Cook barely lost in 3.
It’s too bad UH got off to such a bad start, they could have easily won this.

  77. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 7:43 am

On to next season sand bows, UH was the youngest team in the final four with only one senior. Along with a great incoming recruiting class, there is no reason to think UH will be back in the final four next season and maybe even be the favorites.

  78. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 7:47 am

Looks like Pepp will probably breeze thru to their second title in 3 years.

  79. formerlywarriorfan May 3, 2014 7:55 am

And realistically Pepp would have easily won last year as well if it wasn’t for some injuries.

  80. Cindy Luis May 3, 2014 8:22 am

See new thread on 4-1 loss.
    78=80.
Pepperdine’s one loss this year was to USC.
Don’t know if they would have easily won last year. but everyone was surprised that the Waves didn’t bring at least one extra player last year to the nationals. they lost the title when having to concede the match due to an injury forfeit.

  81. Cindy Luis May 3, 2014 8:26 am

    Pepperdine edges USC 3-2

  82. Joann May 3, 2014 5:01 pm

How rude not allowing an opinion. Truth hurts

  83. Cindy Luis May 3, 2014 5:42 pm

    83. no idea what you’re talking about
