Ran into Averill while he was helping out with Kevin Wong’s Spike & Serve clinic.

He said he’ll be going to Anaheim to train with the  national team beginning July 8 for a week or so.

good for averill. a nice opportunity for him. he’s turned out to be a solid middleblocker, but i wonder how much more damage he can do moved to opposite. his wide skill-set certainly gives him options.

We’ll see. the good thing is that MNT coach is Speraw, who recruited him for UCI and is well aware of his talent and potential. A very nice young man.

*** One of their twitter accounts tweeted that matches at UCI and Galen Center almost sold out but I think both venues might be a lot smaller than the SSC.

*** Nice to see that banner ad on the SA home page.

According to her facebook, Lara Schreiber has been accepted to UH. Great news for the Sand Bows.

And after doing some google searching I found a few articles , one from Germany
that when translated has this snipper on beach volleyball player Jelena Wlk. . “The situation is different for the talented Jelena Wlk. Although the 21-year-old is to be held, however, still toying with a scholarship to Hawaii”

There is also this article on Swedish player Benedicte Maaseide
here is is snippet of the article ( thru google translate which makes it hard to understand)

“After seeing Alana Maaseide and the school team play a few matches in a tournament was Benedicte contacted by the representative from Hawaii School. In volleyball environment is considered Hawaii as the sport’s mecca. It can move up to 10,000 spectators at matches there, and universities, there is great prestige in having the best school team.
    – She explained that she had noticed playing my understanding and gave me an offer of 50-70 percent scholarship to school the next four years. It is a long process I have to go through, but this is something I really want. The prerequisites for betting is far better in Hawaii than here at home, explains Alana Maaseide.

    – Besides, I’m a bit scatterbrained and need an organized environment around me. I have for my dad, she adds, smiling.

Stand on your own two feet
18-year-old does not deny that it is not only easy being the daughter of a successful businessman and former Euro champion and winner of the World Series in beach volleyball in 1994/1995.

She knows both the sporting expectations and hears that she is going free to play. Although she is keen to stand on its own feet.

    – Therefore, I am proud to have received the offer from Hawaii without dad once knew. For me, this dream offer, she says. “

by the way congratulations to Taylor Averill, it’s probably too late for him to have a chance at Rio, but he definitely has a shot at 2020 in Tokyo.

IMHO, it’s not too late. they are in the middle of the quad and in Averill’s mind he feels he still has a shot at 2016.

    3. thanks. hadn’t had a chance to put up the link for the clinic.
    4. yes, both arenas are smaller.
Galen at about 10,200 but it never seemed that large
    Bren at 5,000.
Haven’t seen the ad. Just know that the PR firm being used by USAV signed a contract and that they also will have a cover story on MidWeek.

It seems like Maaseide has already verbally committed to Hawaii and she just needs to qualify and if she does will be here in January. She went to the same school as Hendrik Mol back in Norway.

Here is another article ( translated to english from Norwegian so doesn’t make the most sense )

It is in the family: Beach Volleyball has been a big part in Maaseide-family life. 18 years old Benedicte Maaseide have grown up with sand, net and ball.

Pappa Bear Maaseide had several successful seasons in the late nineties. Together with partner January Kvalheim he EM gold in 1994. They won the World Series in 1994/1995.

    – It can be hard achieving all that my father did in his career, but I’ll do my best, says our new local hopes on the beach volleyball court, Benedicte Maaseide.

Also benedict aunt Kathrine Maaseide strongly played in the sand.

    – I’ve been traveling a lot around the world and got to see how the life of beach volleyball players. I know what I’m going to, ‘she says.

    Dream Deals from Hawaii
She was born the middle of an important battle in 1995. Dad got a yellow card for his score 10-10 took the phone and was told that her daughter had seen the light of day, writes Eve magazine.

    – It’s a bit special, but it’s not something I think a lot of. Be it fate? I do not know, she says.

Now she has got a dream offer Hawaii, who can give her the opportunity to learn from the best. A grant of between 50-70 per cent from an attractive university in Hawaii, is like a gift package to rain.

    – If I get through the tests needed, I move to Hawaii in January and will hopefully remain for four years, she said.

Benedicte has recently completed three years at Sand high school volleyball on board. A representative from the school in Hawaii showed up at school this spring and got a taste for Måseide games.

    – It is a great opportunity for me, but it’s going to be hard work. Great school, lots of training, she said.
