    Let’s Go Bows!

  2. hatakeman February 4, 2015 6:24 am

Mike Cherry, KITV, just announced that Fred Ulu-Perry told him he will sign with UCLA.

  3. Makani February 4, 2015 6:27 am

Sure hope da Warriors fill their DT/NT positions. Did not see any DT recruits that committed. A couple of big, lean and mean DT signees would be very nice.

  4. d1shima February 4, 2015 6:34 am

    Great Morning All!

    Let’s Go Bows!

  5. tofuzuke February 4, 2015 7:00 am

This is Hawaii’s team, proud of the Warrior commits!! Wouldn’t want anyone who doesn’t want to be a Warrior!!! From what I’ve been reading they’ll be lots of surprises today. Good luck coaches!

  6. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 7:13 am

My head says it’s going to be a disappointing day, but my heart is hoping for the best. And no matter who signs (or doesn’t sign), I’ll be back at Aloha Stadium in September rooting for the players. Go Warriors!

  7. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 7:13 am

I guess yesterday was more a eve of deconstruction. I expect RB Paul Harris of Ventura College to sign with Hawaii.

  8. Pete Jek February 4, 2015 7:13 am

    Let’s go UH…

  9. Da Punchbowl Kid February 4, 2015 7:15 am

Big day! Time for the recruits to Warrior up!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  10. PONO February 4, 2015 7:16 am

    Very disappointing day:
No Afalava, Wily, Holmes, Ulu Perry or Fehoko.

  11. Bowwar February 4, 2015 7:19 am

We want Warriors! Lots of BEEF on both sides of the line will help…

  12. al February 4, 2015 7:19 am

2…it is why Hensley is on the clock.

  13. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:20 am

If Hensley is on the clock, does that mean Ben Northup Decomitted?

  14. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 7:21 am

With the kind of troll coach hating fans that we have here why would anyone sign here?

  15. al February 4, 2015 7:24 am

13… I started to add that in too. But I didn’t want to stir the pot any further.

  16. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:24 am

BTW, is the 5* FCS QB who contacted UH former Eastern Washington’s Vernon Adams? He would have only 1 year, but consider this of the young man. Oregon offered him and thinks he could possibly earn a starting job.
But he said he’s not going anywhere to be a 2nd stringer.
    Hmmmmm

  17. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 7:25 am

    Northup already signed with Fresno

  18. Chris Turner February 4, 2015 7:25 am

13..It would appear that way. Looks like he signed with Fresno State https://twitter.com/FresnoStateFB/status/562999541855977472/photo/1

  19. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 7:27 am

Surprise signing but DB Trey Linton from Charlotte apparently is a Warrior? According to his Twitter feed

  20. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 7:27 am

thank you to Agasiva, Matautia and Borden for choosing Hawaii.

hopefully Chow is fired after this season so you get a real coach.

  21. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 7:29 am

Where did Fehoko choose to go? His other reported options were Nevada and North Carolina, I believe.

  22. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:29 am

BTW, Stephen mentioned Northup possibly decommitting to possibly sign with Fresno St. See todays front page. Also last week it was said UH didnt offer Hensley.. 1+1 being a troll

  23. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:31 am

5 decommits and counting. I don’t recall this ever happening.. oh yeah, be patient, right?

  24. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 7:33 am

    darn blue balled again

  25. Shoko February 4, 2015 7:34 am

TJF – Washington State, Colorado and Nevada, too. Should make announcement in the next few minutes according to Twitter.

  26. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 7:34 am

Chow is so far behind the times w regards to social media. we have the weakest signing day coverage. JC teams have better coverage than us.

  27. MattyBoy February 4, 2015 7:38 am

I so hope that Chow is gone after this season! I can’t even believe he’s still here! This has to be one of the worst recruiting seasons ever! Look at all these decommits. And losing recruits to UNLV? My how far Hawaii has fallen. Unbelievable.

  28. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:40 am

Anyone notice UH reposted the Job openings for the DC and DB positions. Now the closing date is Feb 12. I guess no qualified candidates the first time around?

  29. MattyBoy February 4, 2015 7:40 am

Also the UH administration as well as the athletic director are so inept in regards to athletics that I’m who the next coach will be? Unreal.

  30. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 7:41 am

Lack of coaches sure showing to hurt recruiting. I’m guessing kids have no confidence this staff will be here next year.

  31. MattyBoy February 4, 2015 7:41 am

Lol and no DC and DB coaches yet? Chow has to be the first coach to recruit without having these coaches! Sad.

  32. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 7:45 am

What I’m most upset about is our contingency plans… It feels like we were all in on our commits and no back up plans. There were a lot of players interested over the past 2 weeks that Hawaii didn’t show interest in return. Might hurt us bad today….

  33. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 7:50 am

FEhoko to Wazzu… Didn’t really think that article this morning was going to happen.

  34. Shoko February 4, 2015 7:51 am

    TJF headed to Wazu

  35. gobows February 4, 2015 7:52 am

why fire chow? garans the next coach going be just as bad. other than jj, all the coaches hired that had hawaii ties has sucked. was it ray that took a chance on dick tomey? what this team needs is a young, fcs head coach to come here and win immediately. the hell with hawaii ties, its been proven to fail over and over.

  36. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 7:54 am

the TJ Fehoko and “5 star” QB was just damage control. Chow trying to make it look like there is something out there.

  37. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 7:56 am

Coaches are probably scrambling to find replacements without FBS scholarships…
pull the trigger on Josh Love already. Leave the next staff a possible star QB and open the Long Beach Poly pipeline for the future.

  38. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:56 am

Former Warrior verbal Jonah Moi decommitted for Wazzu, then decommitted to check out Oregon St and TCU. He’s now an official Oregon Duck. Talk about upgrading his stock

  39. cheepono February 4, 2015 7:57 am

    arona amosa?

  40. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:57 am

    #35 add to that Ulu-Perry

  41. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 7:59 am

Jeezy33, LB Poly coach is Antonio Pierce. With the way Anthony was treated last season, the LB Poly pipeline is probably closed

  42. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:00 am

RB Tyree Range, who wanted to play for Hawaii but we wanted Mel Davis, will sign with SDSU today. If he is running on us the next 4 years, remember that one…

  43. Down with... February 4, 2015 8:01 am

Here’s what’s hurting UH athletics (no particular order):
    -Ben Jay
-Norm Chow (and pretty much everything associated with him)
    -Not having coaches (DC, DB)
    -Gib Arnold-and his failure
-NCAA investigation- who knows where this is going to go
-Upper Campus who doesn’t support sports and thinks UH is some prestigious academia
-A BOR who…who knows what these people do as they do a lot of talking but not much else
-A state that is divided between supporting UH and not supporting UH
-A fair weather fan base that supports only when times are good
-A Campus facility that is “crap”-there’s high schools with better facilities

No wonder recruiting is down and other schools easily out recruit us. -very sad

  44. kapakahi February 4, 2015 8:02 am

    #38,

    Troubling sign…….if anything but a walk-on.

  45. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:02 am

    40. Good Point. This might be the biggest recruiting disaster I’ve ever seen.. And I have been following for 15 years + now. I guess it gets worse when you sign kids on signing day that don’t make it to school, but I have never seen Hawaii lose out kids to awful teams. We used to at least lose kids to Pac 12 schools.

  46. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 8:02 am

usually signing day gives false hope for every team across the country, even the worst ones. but Chow is so terrible the fans dont even get to enjoy the false hope that is signing day LOL

  47. Pete Jek February 4, 2015 8:05 am

    You guys are depressing…

  48. Shoko February 4, 2015 8:07 am

    Hensley is a Warrior.

  49. Tempmanoa February 4, 2015 8:07 am

Looks very bad, but under the circumstances, what can you expect? It’s surprising we got anyone– and there are some good players on the list. We will need some last minute JC’s and transfers that can fill holes until next year– which will be even worse. Hard to believe we let ourselves get into this position.

  50. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:08 am

    46. Truth is better than pretending everything is going awesome.

  51. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:10 am

Ventura RB Paul Harris signs with Hawaii…. All American at least.. No complaints here.

  52. Bryson February 4, 2015 8:11 am

Very uneventful signing day so far, hopefully before its all said and done we get a surprise or two…

  53. hatakeman February 4, 2015 8:14 am

It is depressing when Hawaii Athletics “Signing Day Central” as of 7:40 am reports only one signing so far – Austin Webb .

  54. 3-Prong February 4, 2015 8:15 am

Today is not the day to be a “Negative Nancy”. Go Bows!

  55. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 8:16 am

yup our coverage is so weak and embarrassing.

  56. kapakahi February 4, 2015 8:17 am

    #51,

Surprises on NLI Day have typically never been good for UH…….especially up at the North Shore…….which seems will be a continuing trend today.

  57. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:18 am

    53. Santa didn’t show up.

  58. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:19 am

    55. Surprises in the past were usually bad news… Skinny DE from Texas that never played, 3rd string JC RB,

  59. Matteo February 4, 2015 8:20 am

Webb is a giant. Matuatia is the steal of the class, I bet he plays next year in some way.

  60. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:23 am

Just offer Ikaika Piceno already…. Wont regret that one

  61. kapakahi February 4, 2015 8:24 am

Looking like gonna be……..the smallest local HS signee class for UH……….ever!

Not good at all……since the HC has repeatedly stated that…….local HS recruiting is his top recruiting priority……and the lifeblood for the program.

  62. kapakahi February 4, 2015 8:27 am

    #58,

Might as well…….since we all saw last season that a quick under-sized local SB who plays with heart……Donnie King Jr…..can still be a major contributor.

  63. Warbow February 4, 2015 8:28 am

23…The year of the de-committed: Moi, Afalava, Wily, Holmes, Northup, Woo, Cronk. Did I miss anyone? It doesn’t pay to have no DC and DB coach along with a lame-duck coach. Other coaches use that against you.

  64. Old Diver February 4, 2015 8:28 am

Gonna be a tough haul for the new coach in 2016.

  65. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:29 am

    60. Piceno athleticism and strength is in a whole different league than King though.

  66. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:30 am

The worst part about the evidence is it probably sets us back an extra year keeping Chow. Whoever takes over next year is not going to have time to effectivley recruit a strong class.

  67. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:30 am

    *effectively

  68. Matteo February 4, 2015 8:34 am

Pesi Savea to SDSU. Wonder why UH wasn’t on him, grades?…

  69. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 8:35 am

the 2016 Senior Walk will probably be 40+ .
Better Schedule it after the game of kickoff will be delayed big time

  70. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 8:37 am

Guys this is the future of UH. We cannot pay kids like other schools… We cannot feed kids like other players. The flight is long and brutal. I fly a few times a yea me and dread it. Too expensive to visit family…
Facilities suck and won’t get better anytime soon.

Be happy anyone comes here from here on out because any pac 12 team has tons more to offer. Even UNLV flirts with massive new facilities.

It’s just a shift that happened while we were sleeping and it’s going to get worse.

  71. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 8:39 am

San Jose St is broke and taking Hawaii to school in recruiting.

  72. Bryson February 4, 2015 8:39 am

Did I miss something with Desean Holmes did he sign with SDSU?

  73. tom February 4, 2015 8:40 am

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!
The world is coming to an end!

Be thankful for the things we got!

  74. Matteo February 4, 2015 8:41 am

@70 They’ve recruited well the last couple years but still suck on the field. They tell everyone they can play right away cuz they’re so bad. At least we have some respect.

  75. Slaya February 4, 2015 8:43 am

No one should be surprised if UH ends up with another sub-par recruiting class, and yes it is not surprising that a lot of UH commits end up de-committing. Even though UH may lag behind other programs in terms of facilities, I think the bottom line is the Head coach and his staff is what draws the player. Right now there’s way too much negativity going on with UH’s program with Chow at the helm. But lets see who actually signs with UH today…..

  76. tom February 4, 2015 8:53 am

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!
The world is coming to an end!

So supposed a signee ain’t bright
    Or completely free from flaws
Or as faithful as a bird-dog
Or as kind as Santa Claus
It’s a waste of time to worry over things that they have not
    Be thankful for
    The things they’ve got!

  77. Hank February 4, 2015 8:55 am

    #70 Good Morning Tom,

I wonder if it’s because the world is ending and that soon UNLV will play SJS for the national championship – that we don’t hear much from old time posters like us anymore? (BTW did we not beat those two monsters of the west last year?)

There are times when I read the Warrior Beat that I have to take an extra dose of Prozac afterwards. So true, be thankful.

  78. Inyoface February 4, 2015 8:56 am

Why’s everyone surprised to decommitments? It happens every year and what do you expect after the 3 season we’ve had?

  79. graham February 4, 2015 9:00 am

The UNLV thing is joke- I can tolerate the Pac 10 and other major conferences but how do you choose UNLV for a highschool coach. Bitter about those 2 decommitting for sure.

  80. graham February 4, 2015 9:01 am

Went to church and said a prayer for Desean holmes but after seeing what has happned today not to confident. Trying to stay positive about this class

  81. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 9:01 am

The real shame is that our top sports radio station is still talking about the crappy Seahawks instread of recruits because he knows zero about it.

  82. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 9:02 am

I don’t believe the sky is falling in terms of UH’s long-term ability to compete. I’m confident that once Chow and company are replaced by a competent (and complete) coaching staff and UH reverts to its historical winning percentage of 55-60%, we’ll be right back to beating out schools like UNLV and SJSU for recruits. This is a temporary situation caused by the administration’s unwillingness to pay Chow’s buy-out.

  83. kakaako kid February 4, 2015 9:05 am

The coach will soon decommit, fortunately an unsigned 3-star replacement is available.

  84. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 9:06 am

I was surprised by Northup. I thought he was solid up until the weekend. He’s going to be a good player.

  85. Big Island lava February 4, 2015 9:06 am

Congratulations to all you Chow haters for helping to chase away possible recruits and Hawaii decommits. How can we expect high school prospects, especially Hawaiian homegrown to stay home and support team when those Chow haters doesn’t support the program and constantly talk Chow smack out one side of their mouth and try to salvage players ego at the same time. “Father forgive then for they know what they do”

  86. Dannyp February 4, 2015 9:07 am

Well officially reached ground zero as a program. The only thing getting me through next year is the hope that Norwood/Sitake can save us.

  87. HOSSANA February 4, 2015 9:10 am

Plez, let’s get rid of the present QB’S except Wittek and bring in that 5-star qb…..plez don’t tell me woosley is going to be the starter next year and Wittek and co. have to compete to oust woosley….send woosley to the scout team…nothing more and nothing less.

  88. Turfwar February 4, 2015 9:11 am

http://www.sjsuspartans.com/ot/sjsu-capital-projects.html SJS is far from broke. New plans for Bill Walsh athletic facility is a great selling point and these students must have been promised they will be used before their time is up at SJS. Even when Tomey was coaching there he said at the time the new weight room was better than most in the Pac10. They’ve had facilities for a while now and obviously are planning on being competitive in college football for the foreseeable future. Monies coming out of Silicone Valley is still healthy and vibrant. Unless the state is willing to step in we will struggle no matter who the coach is. Like jeffdman said too many people have been sleeping on the job hoping the status quo will be good enough instead of competing with the other like colleges. If you want to make a diference complain to the right people about the right things. Assistant coaches are now getting 1.5 million at the highest levels. There will be many things that we simply cannot come close to competing for and with the Power 5 guys being able to make their own rules it will be questioned if we should even try. Will even new facilities be the answer in the next 20 years? Maybe not but if we don’t try then what are we doing? State monies is the only real answer at this point and the people in charge from the Gov on down need to care as much as we do.

  89. al February 4, 2015 9:12 am

As a reminder of sorts, the Kahuku HS signing ceremony begins at 9:30 am.

  90. hatakeman February 4, 2015 9:13 am

UNLV’s recruiting success is built around the coaching staff that Tony Sanchez has assembled; see http://www.unlvrebels.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/122214aac.html

  91. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 9:16 am

    hatakaman:
    UNLV is built around UFC.
    Talk about MegaBucks.

  92. al February 4, 2015 9:17 am

St…what up with the Arona Amosa family shot. No mention of him here. Yet, it looks like a UH cap he wears?

  93. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:17 am

tell Chow he sucks and i cant wait till he gets fired

  94. cheepono February 4, 2015 9:17 am

ditto on dannyp. the only thing getting me through today’s fiasco and the upcoming season is the hope for a better future w/o chow.

  95. al February 4, 2015 9:20 am

Glad to see that Moananu is in the house. Naeole is really high on him.

For that matter Chris finally convinced Chow that he needed 4-5 Oline recruits each class. ..

    …and look at their size!

  96. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 9:20 am

I need clarification. Are the people who are upset mad at who de-committed or committed? Because I think it’s really unfair and mean-spirited to attack a player who chose to go to UH or any other school. Especially when a parent has to read about someone trashing their son. Not cool.

  97. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 9:20 am

Turf… Awesome post. I think it’s time that we support and welcome those that chose to come . We cannot pay our coaches. Chow makes like half of what the two previous coaches made. The university is going to pay Crooks like Arnold 1.4 million. Time to support what we have here. Be happy. The landscape changed . Schools will be paying kids with stipends and food almost 5k a month and more in some schools. There will soon be a break off from the big five… The MW will split since some will be absorbed. We won’t be one of them. Too much negative publicity starting with June Jones and facility crying. We just aren’t in that league. Doesn’t mean we can be competitive and have a fun program for kids… Just not with the powers. I have a young prodigy daughter in soccer. I dreamed of her to play for my school UH…. But with all the opportunity and support in other places… Why send her to UH? We have some of the worst fans. It’s a shame. I think in my heart that is not true, but all I ever see is trolling people who hate their lives so much they want to make it miserable for everyone else. Time to be happy . Stop doing body bag games like Ohio State and Wisconsin to make up for crappy fiscal management. That’s another story…. Look at Wily. Playing big schools ended his career. Why would his family member come here?

  98. Makai February 4, 2015 9:20 am

Terry Beckner Jr. staying close to home I wish our local boys would do the same

  99. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:21 am

not mad at any players at all. when i step back, theyre actually making the right decision to not come here.

  100. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 9:22 am

So of the 22 UH commits that ST listed in his article on Sunday, here’s where we stand by my count:

    – 9 are already enrolled at UH
    – 4 have signed (Agasiva, Butler, Matautia, Moananu)
    – 2 signed prior to missions and are presumed returning (Lavaka, Zwahlen)
    – 3 have signed elsewhere (Afalava, Northrup, Wily)
    – 4 we’re still waiting to hear (Borden, Davis, Fieeiki, Holmes)

Plus we’ve signed 4 that weren’t listed on Sunday (Harris, Hensley, Trifonovitch, Webb).

  101. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 9:22 am

Btw …anyone interested in doing a real UH football radio show? Free to the station but let’s get some real shows going from people who care.

  102. Warbow February 4, 2015 9:22 am

85..86 I expect UNLV to be in trouble with the NCAA in the very near future. There’s no way they’re going to run a clean program with that high school coach of theirs and all that money coming in to the program. Not sure he ran a clean program in high school.

  103. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:22 am

im definitely VERY HAPPY with Agasiva and Matautia. i just dont think Chow did a good enough job w this class, IMO.

  104. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 9:23 am

    Letsgo:
So you’re both happy when a kid goes away and mad because he went away?

  105. Warbow February 4, 2015 9:24 am

95..That four signed that were not on the list tells you that 4 on the list went elsewhere.

  106. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:25 am

happy for the kid, mad that we’re stuck w Chow

  107. al February 4, 2015 9:25 am

St…are we after that 5* qb or not?
Wittek’s is still an unknown quantity or is it quality?
    Woolsey could surprise.
However, we put all of our eggs, albeit goose, in one qb before, Schroeder /graham for example, and look where it got us.
    Have we learned?

  108. Andrew February 4, 2015 9:25 am

    91.

True that. Support the ones that choose to come to UH and wish the ones that choose to go elsewhere best of luck (except when they play UH). It’s their decision and I’m sure seeing negative comments of your own child on here would make anyone upset as well.

  109. Dannyp February 4, 2015 9:26 am

Why would we be mad at the commits?

  110. hatakeman February 4, 2015 9:27 am

What’s up with Mel Davis? I don’t see his name as signed.

  111. al February 4, 2015 9:28 am

    91…amen.

  112. al February 4, 2015 9:30 am

Slam!!!…one door closes and another one opens.

  113. al February 4, 2015 9:32 am

Russell Williams is in the house.

  114. PONO February 4, 2015 9:32 am

Have you seen SJSU’s facilities and stadium? It’s an absolute joke. It’s sad that they are out recruiting most of the MWC. Their coaches are doing one hell of a job b/c it’s not like their football program has a bunch of great assets to sell.

  115. warrior dog February 4, 2015 9:34 am

We all knew deep inside this would happen. Only in his first year did we have a decent recruiting class. From then on it has been a trip backward. Promises by him to get those recruits to stay home has been empty and now ones that we would have had in the past are going elsewhere. Lame duck Jay is only making things worst. Wait for the next story on how the attendance figures will dip to an all time low. With coaches leaving and no replacements in site. There is only one change that needs to happen here is Chow needs to go now not later. Those that hope we will get better with him are living in Oz. Get back to reality the change needs to happen for UH to get better how many signs must we pass to get you to believe. Just like rail coming on budget it won’t happen any time soon.

  116. Warbow February 4, 2015 9:34 am

108..Where you been? Russell Williams was in the house awhile ago.

  117. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 9:35 am

Who did Amosa’s son sign with?
Still waiting for signed LOI from Borden, Fieeki or Kainoa Wilson.

If Chow wants to pad his c/o 2015 list, he could give Colton Goeas a scholie rather than a walkon invite

  118. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 9:36 am

    Letsgo:
I wasn’t trying to single you out. From your posts, I gather you don’t like Chow, and that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to his feelings. And so to support that feeling, you point out you don’t like the recruiting effort. And that’s fine to not like a coach, but the tricky part is to do so, means to disparage the recruits. So just take a random player. Do you think Player X is not worthy of being a UH player? UH is what it is. It’s an under-funded school in the middle of the Pacific. I think the coaches tried to get the players they thought would be the best they could get. The coaches went after every top-tier player in the state. I think the shame would be if they didn’t pursue the state’s top players. But they did. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.

  119. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 9:37 am

    Big Wave:
Amosa’s son is walking on at UH.

  120. isleboy February 4, 2015 9:37 am

Smoke and mirrors recruiting by Hawaii…..they listed a bunch of players
they claimed were commits…..thinking other players would follow…well
now they are stuck with leftovers…..Hawaii has a class of PROJECTS ..
looking at the list….its the least talented recruiting class Hawaii has had in
    30 years!!!!!

  121. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:41 am

thats why i have not singled out any recruit.

and to have no solid contingency plans in place is fustrating.
to have no OC, DC and DB coach in place is fustrating.
to have only 3 coaches recruiting in fustrating.
to not have a presence w social media, while most other colleges do, is fustrating.

  122. hatakeman February 4, 2015 9:41 am

HawaiiMongoose, that’s a good summary of where the recruiting class is at. Thanks.

  123. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:42 am

the way to treat former/current players is starting to catch up to Chow…

LB Poly has a few players i would love to have, but no way can we go there ever again. pretty sure the Kahuku pipeline is done until a new coach comes in as well.

  124. Pete Jek February 4, 2015 9:44 am

The bottom line should be this…

Did we fill all the available slots for recruits? If so, then the coaches fulfilled their recruiting obligations and that’s all we can ask for.

Regardless of the ratings, the coaching staff will have to coach hard on developing their players, and we all know that’s the most important part of the process anyway.

  125. hatakeman February 4, 2015 9:44 am

If Arona Amosa is anything like his dad, then we can think about having a good center to anchor the O-line in a couple of years.

  126. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 9:45 am

    Never mad at players…

Very frustrated at UH from Upper Campus to the HC.

As I stated before, nothing was done to the football staff since the Fresno St season finisher. Pukas in the coaching staff, OJT guys at QB and WR coaching positions. Guys wants to stay home for the home team, but the unknowns are killing the program. If Chow focused on landing solid DC, DB, WR, & QB coaches LOI day would have way more surprises in favor of Hawaii.

  127. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 9:45 am

    Borden signs.

  128. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:46 am

fustrated we had a dumbass AD who threatened (even if it was an empty threat) to shutdown the football program so other programs could use that against us.

  129. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 9:48 am

BW, i we been complaining about the coaching vacancies for over 2 months now, but remember, “just bc things are not out in the public doesnt mean there isnt anything going on behind the scenes” LMAO

  130. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 9:51 am

The lack of contingency plans and ability to evaluate has hurt UH under Chow since he got here. Whether we blame old assistants or Chow himself, it all falls under the HC. Yes, we are under funded but there are so many good high school football players out there that even Boise, Utah St, etc had to start from the bottom to recruit properly before they started getting funded. I know of many players who wanted to come here that are turning out to be very good players in college and will be good in college that Hawaii turned away.
I actually like some of the names we have signed. But when we are losing kids to undesirable football teams, then you know you are hitting rock bottom as a D1 football program.

  131. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 9:51 am

#124 Yup be patient, he got friends, no?

  132. rage777 February 4, 2015 9:55 am

Dave looks the same as he did 25 years ago, I also think I know Kelli Abe.

Aren’t we also waiting for Cameron Hayes of Serra High?

  133. warrior dog February 4, 2015 9:56 am

When we are the only football team in the state and we can’t fill our recruiting with the majority of all state players and they go elsewhere what that tell you on how they feel about UH. Granted some are very talented and go to great universities. We are the sad little girl in the field of easter eggs with a basket half empty with Oregon, OregonSt , UCLA and now UNLV dancing with the Easter bunny.

  134. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 9:56 am

    Glad to hear Borden signed.

Holmes is supposed to announce his choice (UH or SDSU) at 11:00 a.m. HST. We’ll see.

That leaves Davis and Fieeiki. Both were supposedly solid commits but it’s almost noon in California and no word yet. Hope someone else didn’t swoop in on them at the last moment.

  135. Sangamon Keith February 4, 2015 9:57 am

Isleboy … Just an FYI, the UH never said any athlete committed … that would break NCAA rules about commenting on any recruit until after receiving signed LOI. The kids are the ones who announce that they have committed … telling newspapers, team websites, recruiting news services and friends. UH is not able to comment even if it has offered a kid. So this is not “smoke and mirror.” If I am wrong, I’d like ST to correct me.

    Keith

  136. al February 4, 2015 9:58 am

UH did/does have a tiered contingency plan knowing full well anything could and did happen. Look at it as an opportunity for a young man to make his mark on and off the field.

Just because some someone was under the radar does not mean he could be a gem in the future. Malcolm Butler for example.

  137. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 9:58 am

UH’s recruiting budget is low. But Boise State’s and Fresno State’s are lower. It’s not just about the money.

  138. Warbow February 4, 2015 9:59 am

129..Dont think Davis will sign. Hawaii got the plan “B” in Harris.

  139. dahometeam February 4, 2015 10:00 am

We cant control which kid chooses to play here, but what we can do is support the ones that has chosen to play for UH. Welcome !!

  140. Derek February 4, 2015 10:00 am

You won’t know if you have a good or bad recruiting class until probably the 2nd year. You never know if kids will develop quickly or if they will have an opportunity to play early and get much needed experience. Hopefully, there will be some nice surprises in the spring and fall. Wishing for the best for John Ursua. I thought he could play football and basketball at UH, he was that athletic, like Ostrowski. And I hope Cameron Hayes can make it in too. Like ST said, it’s complicated. Hoping and praying. We’ll see how it all shakes out, but it doesn’t look like the coaches fillled enough needs to plug the middle of the defensive line. Stopping the run is the #1 priority.

  141. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 10:00 am

    131. Based on the past 3 recruiting seasons, our idea of contingency doesn’t give UH fans any hope of a turn around.

  142. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 10:01 am

Like I said before, Hayes isn’t signing today. But expect him to be in a UH uniform in July.

  143. al February 4, 2015 10:01 am

An loi needs to be signed by both parents whether they are still married or not. Sometimes chasing down a signature is reason for delay.

  144. dannyp February 4, 2015 10:03 am

    133

The Norm Chow era. Where your friends RB at Fullerton is plan A and the All American is plan B 🙂 Makes me wonder what other players we’ve passed on.

  145. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 10:04 am

UH was close to hiring two coaches. But they both took NFL jobs. I’m sure we can understand their decision.

  146. Marleysdad February 4, 2015 10:05 am

Bigwave96744, you keep speaking of all these kids that want to stay home & play for UH. Name them. I’m sure we’d all like to know who we missed out on.

I for one am glad the ones who have signed are going to play for us.

  147. al February 4, 2015 10:06 am

136…that is based on what’s on paper and opinion of potential based upon video. A lot of blue chippers never get past a year or two. A lot of under valued prospects become tomorrow’s impact players. Therefore, I never derail a recruit, soon to be student athlete before he even gets here.

  148. oldtimer808 February 4, 2015 10:07 am

Is John Ursua still committed to come on board after his church mission? I read that he had started his mission late so may not be here until fall camp. Can someone enlighten me on Ursua.

  149. James February 4, 2015 10:07 am

#67 UNLV “flirts” with massive new facilities which they will never have anytime in the near future. The people here in Las Vegas do not support UNLV. The facilities are a pipe dream. The stadium is one of the worst in D1, the arena is okay and they don’t have much of a baseball facility to speak of currently. If you lived here you would know how it is. Also, they hired Sanchez as their HC because he was the cheapest option. They didn’t want to pay big money for an established coach. Mr. Tsai, the Fertittas and the UFC have no loyalty to UNLV. They did not graduate from there and their two sons attend Villanova and Notre Dame respectively. They have not promised any money to UNLV. I don’t understand your logic of UNLV being built around the UFC. To date, the UFC, Dana White and the Fertittas have not made any financial impact on UNLV, although Notre Dame has been able to benefit from the addition of a 5’9″ 170lb 3-star safety on a scholarship with the last name Fertitta.

  150. Warbow February 4, 2015 10:08 am

140…5 Star transfer QB’s for high school coaches son.

  151. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 10:09 am

By the way, big volleyball match today.
Micah Christenson and Tui Tuileta return home with No. 2 USC.

  153. tom February 4, 2015 10:10 am

When I commented that “the sky is falling” (Chicken Little) or the world is coming to an end, it is just a pithy comment on some of the bloggers’ comments today.

There are people who have high hopes for the UH Athletic Department and the players. There are UH alumni and friends who will support UH no matter what. We survived Von Appen and Herman Fraiser – so why do some of the comments today think that the world has come to an end?

When you walk through a storm, keep your chin up high and don’t be afraid of the dark – at the end of the storm is a golden sky …

  154. oldtimer808 February 4, 2015 10:10 am

I don’t know why any one would be upset with UH’s recruiting. These coaches work hard to recruit. Recruiting is a process and you’re dealing with young men and parents. Remember we are in the middle of the Pacific so a really long distance for many families. I’m happy for all the young student/athletes that are willing to be apart of the UH Ohana. Wish everyone would chill out because this is not the end of the world yet.

  155. Warbow February 4, 2015 10:11 am

140..Ha ha, you mean to tell me we were about to sign the Seahawks old DC who went to Atlanta.

  156. graham February 4, 2015 10:11 am

#133- Agrred, I think we got the plan B

  157. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 10:14 am

Re 133, I haven’t been able to find any reports that Davis is leaning toward signing with a school other than UH. Have I missed something?

  158. al February 4, 2015 10:15 am

148…hey, I have that song by the letterman on my iTunes.

  159. hitman February 4, 2015 10:15 am

aloha all and good morning see we lost more then we hope !! hope all the kids the best that chose to move away !! hopefully the door aways going be open if you have a change of heart down the road !!
lot of people are saying it chow falt!! to me it all the UH HEADS &AD BJ falt on this year recruiting class we go into the off season with a coach and staff not knowing if they will be back . almost everyone calling for chow to be fired !! then we missing OC,DC,DB coach, kind hard to sell a school that can change your life.
if this does not show we need to clean house and start new

  160. al February 4, 2015 10:19 am

150…what are you talking about or who are you talking about?
    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Butler_(American_football)

  161. shoichi84 February 4, 2015 10:19 am

Wanted to read through the comments for up to date news, but all the hating really turned me off. Jeez, even if you don’t like the way the program is going, why do some of you have to be SO negative. Doesn’t it get tiring after a while?

  162. isleboy February 4, 2015 10:20 am

Rivals.com ranks Hawaii LAST in talent level of upcoming recruiting class…
That’s AWFUL!!!! Norm Chow has been talking about how much time he and
his staff recruits…..Now this disaster…..Media needs to question him
extensively this afternoon at 3 PM…..Don’t let him gloss over how poorly
    he and staff did recruiting…..

  163. graham February 4, 2015 10:20 am

#144- So spot on, I could not agree more.

  164. al February 4, 2015 10:21 am

This class has 6 local boys.

  165. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 10:22 am

The landscape for D1 football has evolved since the VonAppen and heck even the Herman days. You can’t keep bringing up the past and comparing it to the current times. You don’t keep up, you end up like UAB.

  166. kakaako kid February 4, 2015 10:25 am

I hope UNLV upgrades include Sam Boyd Stadium, namely the aluminum bleachers, before my/our exodus to watch the Warriors next fall.

  167. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 10:25 am

Al, you got “What have you done for me lately” on your list, too? 🙂

  168. HanabataBoy February 4, 2015 10:26 am

    Cameron Hayes signs with Warriors

  169. al February 4, 2015 10:29 am

Bw…no, I tossed that out and replaced it with Andy William’s tune, theme from Love story. “Where do I begin…”

  170. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 10:29 am

    Cam Hayes is not signing…yet.

and Tsai, he cant come in July. he has to come in August if he doesnt sign.

  171. HanabataBoy February 4, 2015 10:32 am

    Trey Linton coming to UH?

  172. kakaako kid February 4, 2015 10:38 am

UH should spend all their effort at Cameron Hayes’ HS. Two 5-star, one 4-star, three 3-star and three 2-star. Next year, three 4-star and two 3-star…so far. Is this the Kentucky of HS football?

  173. BigWave96744 February 4, 2015 10:40 am

Al, I think coach has U2’s “Still haven’t found what I’m looking for”

  174. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 10:42 am

    letsgo:
He can come in July if he pays for his summer session.
    Like I said, it’s complicated.

  175. al February 4, 2015 10:43 am

172…levity is good in these times.

  176. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 10:44 am

    Then again I’m loopy.
    I woke up at 4 a.m.
It was hard enough to get my own kids to do chores when they were growing up. It’s even more frustrating waiting for an 18-year-old to sign a letter. I’m like: “Now? Did you sign yet?”

  177. al February 4, 2015 10:45 am

    Make that 7 local boys.

  178. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 10:46 am

    Kakaako KId:
Now Hayes knows about social media. He was a tweeting all the announcements the past couple weeks.

  179. Stephen Tsai February 4, 2015 10:47 am

By the way, Joey Iosefa slimmed down, as you can see in my dubious photo. I hope he runs a good time at the combine.

  180. al February 4, 2015 10:47 am

Wow looks like we’ll hit a 200 post day. It’s been awhile.

  181. al February 4, 2015 10:51 am

A sub 4.7 would be nice.

  182. Z February 4, 2015 10:54 am

Good to see Joey slim down. I think he has a shot.

    Welcome new Warriors!!!!

  183. Fan1 February 4, 2015 10:58 am

There has been a lot of negativity, but I think if a recruit wants to live openly as a woman and can still contribute on the field we should be excited.

  184. NotNasti February 4, 2015 11:03 am

Re: Joey, How do you say “Beast Mode” in samoan?

  185. amela February 4, 2015 11:04 am

It doesn’t look real good at the moment but I don’t have a problem of who is coming to UH. These kids have potential maybe not tomorrow ready but I have faith. Give them credit for trying to build the program. But have to admit the lack of filling coaching vacancies have definitely hurt.

  186. rodney February 4, 2015 11:07 am

Per source, safeties / special teams coordinator Chris Demarest will not return

  187. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 11:10 am

lol so UGA is probably the ones who leaked Ulbrich potentially getting a job w the Falcons. WOW

  188. Fan1 February 4, 2015 11:11 am

I think Chow was looking to bring in additional competition this spring. I’m hearing Summerfield accepted and will have 2 to play 3

  189. Rodney February 4, 2015 11:12 am

Amen ST. Recruiting in Hawaii is complicated!!
Peeps be happy!! I know the coaches recruit
hard and some kids just want to go off island
Think we did good( with out a Dc and db)recruiting
Now if we can get a new OC that would be grest

  190. Makai February 4, 2015 11:15 am

Dean Holmes to announce his decision on FSPT airing now?

  191. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 11:18 am

Sorry but if recruiting to Hawaii is complicated excuse is going to be used, next coach please. This isn’t some mystery. Every smaller school has its difficulties. You have the right coaches, ability to pitch to recruits your vision, Hawaii itself, you can bring in players. It comes down to whether kids believe in you as a coach and think you can get them to the next level…. Hawaii hasn’t had a player drafted under Chow. This staff doesn’t have much to offer a kid coming out of high school. We won’t be getting better players until we find a new coach and staff.

This is college football. Trying hard gets you nowhere.

  192. NorthShoreFan February 4, 2015 11:18 am

    Guud Morning Tsaikos…bootiful day.

Aloha and E Komo mai..to our new WARRIORS! MAHALO for your commitment.

all da stink coming from some “experts” has got to have influenced some kids…. “disappointed”, “awful” , “stuck with leftovers” …try reading this about you if you were one of the recruits. we got some “experts” who haven’t met the kids, don’t know them but still willing to trash them. got some really confused and heavy duty trolls here.

  193. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 11:19 am

Being smart and persuasive > trying hard

  194. Inyoface February 4, 2015 11:21 am

Hopefully the transfers and previous recruiting class will help us win since most of these recruits will most likely redshirt. I know its about building the future but we need to win first in order to do that.

  195. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 11:25 am

When a lot of people were asking Norm if he would considering stepping down so someone can get the job done. His response was it wasn’t easy because you have assistant coaches to worry about and they have families to take care of. Well that “reasoning” can be thrown out the window…. Daronte Jones has found a better job, Kevin Clune has found a better job, Demo is being reported to not return, and Powell should have no issues finding a coaching job. Naeole can probably be easily retained by the next staff. Does Norm really need to drive the ship completely into the ground before he retires?

  196. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 11:30 am

someone on scout board reporting that Demo is gone.

  197. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 11:31 am

let me guess, Chow didnt want the news of Demo to be gone until after LOI day so it didnt affect recruiting? LOL

  198. Makaobeach February 4, 2015 11:31 am

Wow what a bunch of whiners. Support the team and quit complaining. Too many on this board do nothing but complain. Lets face it UH has never been that good. Don’t get me wrong, we have had some great players here but our claim to fame is having won the WAC a couple of times. We also beat BYU a couple of times. Complaints are the constant not the athletic superiority of our program. One thing we’ve had to deal with over the years is that local kids don’t even get a look from UH. Obviously that has changed. We also complained that no local coaches ever get hired – that has changed. We’ve got a great bunch of student athletes that have a higher graduation rate, (compared to previous years), have stayed out of jail, and have improved on the field. Many games in the past couple of years have been one or two plays away from a win. Too much blame gets heaped on our players and coach Chow. If UH Football had the support and funding like other universities they would’ve hired a DC already, they would have a new stadium, new facilities, and the best 5 star recruits money can buy. We lose coaches and players due to poor funding and zero support. Cheer on the quality recruits that we have signed and quit the complaining. If we have another bad year this coming season then you may get your wish for a coaching change and then another 5 years to keep complaining – because nobody can turn things around without the needed support.

  199. boolakanaka February 4, 2015 11:34 am

I heard the Boz is coming back to school–UH??! wink

  200. RB February 4, 2015 11:35 am

Just saw on Fox sports that Cam Hayes signed with Hawaii.
    Here’s the twitter Pic. https://twitter.com/SportsRecruits/status/563062994406760449/photo/1

  201. al February 4, 2015 11:36 am

If demo goes it is because he wasn’t promoted to DC.

  202. isleboy February 4, 2015 11:37 am

EVE of Destruction…its almost over…..forget the construction phase….LOL….

  204. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 11:39 am

Demo isn’t a big loss…. But having no staff in order has really hurt this program…. When you have a stupid AD and everyone else running the University that is keeping a coach to save money but everyone in the world knows that his contract is not getting renewed, this is what happens….

  205. RB February 4, 2015 11:40 am

Coach Demo not to return. Jeff Ulbrich to the NFL.

  206. st. anthony trojan February 4, 2015 11:40 am

    JEEZY33….Santa in Manila now….just waking up….

  207. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 11:42 am

I might need to change my avatar though.

  208. iwonderwhytheyhateme February 4, 2015 11:47 am

Looking forward to what these new recruits will turn out to be.

Demo gone? Gah. We don’t have enough GA’s to promote at this rate =/.

  209. iwonderwhytheyhateme February 4, 2015 11:54 am

I think it’s probably just a matter of time before we see the return of one of the Lee’s, Miano, Reinbold, Glanville or that crazy dude that drove to drop off his resume to Chow when he was first hired.

  210. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 12:02 pm

please dont greyshirt anyone Chow, i dont want you to handcuff the next staff. i want them with a clean 25 to work with

  211. kapakahi February 4, 2015 12:04 pm

Holmes to announce his choice in 30 minutes……

  212. Rodney February 4, 2015 12:04 pm

    Agree Demo no big deal

  213. BigFan February 4, 2015 12:16 pm

ST, who’s the decorated DE that was a contingency plan?

  214. Shoko February 4, 2015 12:17 pm

So, Demo get another job or was he just released by Chow?

  215. willeboy February 4, 2015 12:20 pm

    letsgowarriors
’nuff whining and crying about the coaching staff already. like ST said “it is what it is”. maybe if you start saying some positive stuff about the program then more recruits will commit to UH.

  216. Kifi February 4, 2015 12:20 pm

Great class so far. Only thing missing is interior defensive linemen. Coaches may possibly be considering Moananu and Lavaka for the D-side of the ball.

  217. Luki February 4, 2015 12:20 pm

Congratulations to the UH signees and the kids who decided to go away, much luck to you all…Some of these posts “straight trippin”, lol…Thank you for the hump day humor

  218. Kifi February 4, 2015 12:23 pm

Is the DE from Fullerton JC still on board?

  219. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 12:31 pm

    holmes to SDSU

  220. al February 4, 2015 12:31 pm

DeSean Holmes is going to SDSU.

  221. rebel808 February 4, 2015 12:31 pm

    holmes to sdsu!

  222. Makai February 4, 2015 12:31 pm

    Holmes to SDSU

  223. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 12:31 pm

Welp. hawaii strikes out.. Holmes to SDSU

  224. MattyBoy February 4, 2015 12:32 pm

Is it too late for chow to step down?

  225. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 12:34 pm

is it too late to change our schedule?

  226. Shoko February 4, 2015 12:36 pm

Well, I guess Aztecs made more sense for Holmes.

  227. al February 4, 2015 12:44 pm

He said sudsy is close to home and he felt that his position coach could help him improve.

  228. PONO February 4, 2015 12:44 pm

Not one good surprise. Lots of disappointment. Was hoping for a couple of last minute steals.

  229. al February 4, 2015 12:45 pm

So is trey linton on the clock now?

  230. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 12:45 pm

hopefully Tsai dug out of Chow’s presence before Desean committed to SDSU lol

  231. al February 4, 2015 12:46 pm

    Sudsy = sdsu

  232. warriorfan February 4, 2015 12:46 pm

Everyone kept saying he needed more time to get it going and get his own players . Well it’s not working! Chow needs to go.

  233. kapakahi February 4, 2015 12:49 pm

Don’t ever recall any pleasant/positive surprises for UH fans on NLI Day……except all the back to when George Ornellas flipped from Iowa State.

Probably the most disappointing NLI Day for UH fans……filled with no good surprises……just bad ones.

  234. NotNasti February 4, 2015 12:50 pm

Al, is sudsy autocorrect for sdsu?

  235. hatakeman February 4, 2015 12:53 pm

Hate to be negative, but when it all shakes out, Hawaii may rank #129, last, in Scout’s team ranking. Scout currently ranks Hawaii at #126 and that’s with players like Soli Afalava, Mel Davis, and Tolu Fieeiki on the list. Of course transfers and grey-shirts are not included, but still, it appears we have fallen this low.

  236. Maddog50 February 4, 2015 12:55 pm

Congrats to all the new Warriors!!!! As far as more talent and coaches they are all over the place, just go getter! Go Warriors!!!!

  237. NotNasti February 4, 2015 12:56 pm

How about offering to replace our football HC as part of our self-imposed basketball sanctions?

  238. WarriorMojo February 4, 2015 12:56 pm

Re #198 Jeezy: “When you have a stupid AD and everyone else running the University that is keeping a coach to save money but everyone in the world knows that his contract is not getting renewed, this is what happens….”

Leaving aside the issue of whether BJ is stupid or not, the rest of this statement seems scarily accurate. The fact that so may assistants are bailing on Chow is really troublesome.

As for BJ, he obviously made a number of mistakes, but remember, we all wanted to someone to come in with fresh eyes and no obligations to the powers that be to try to save this situation. We still need someone like that, IMO. Remember, it was the old boy network that ousted JD when he didn’t want to hire Chow and it was the Punahou mafia that gifted us Gibby. Too many special interest groups with bad ideas.

Now, if BJ did misread/misunderstand Gib’s contract re the $1.4 million, then “stupid” doesn’t begin to describe BJ and Counsel Services or whatever the UH legal office is called.

  239. run February 4, 2015 12:57 pm

at least its a nice breezy day in hawaii.

  240. al February 4, 2015 1:00 pm

    Not nasti…
    1. Yes
    2. Okay.

  241. al February 4, 2015 1:02 pm

    WM…
    1. Yup
    2. Un huh.
    3. Affirmative indeed.

  242. Waikapu February 4, 2015 1:04 pm

    Okay let’s see.
UH is ranked 126 of 129 DI schools in strength of recruiting class. We have a head coach who has had his azz kicked repeatedly by everyone but D2 schools over the last three years.
Our special teams coach is gone, our DB/associate head coach is gone, our DC is gone and our quasi OC just got out of middle school.
Our AD quit but still works here till summer.
Our basketball program is under NCAA investigation. Our disgraced former hoops coach Fib is saying UH owes him a cool million and a half and if the past is any indicator of the present he’ll probably win his case in court even though he broke almost every rule in the NCAA book.
And all some of you guys want to do is cry about negative posters? YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! UH is in complete and utter disarray.
To all the kids who are coming to play for UH I say God bless you sons and thank you. All we can hope for you players is that the school does the right thing and gets you the kind of coaches and leadership you deserve.
And that means getting a real AD and saying good bye to Norm Chow.

  243. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 1:05 pm

Updating the status of the 22 UH commits that ST listed in his article on Sunday:

    – 9 are already enrolled at UH
    – 5 have signed (Agasiva, Borden, Butler, Matautia, Moananu)
    – 2 signed prior to missions and are presumed returning (Lavaka, Zwahlen)
    – 4 have signed elsewhere (Afalava, Holmes, Northrup, Wily)
    – 2 we’re still waiting to hear (Davis, Fieeiki)

Plus 4 have signed that weren’t listed on Sunday (Harris, Hensley, Trifonovitch, Webb).

  244. al February 4, 2015 1:05 pm

    Hindsight 20/20?
We should have listened to JD.
We should have placed the Wonder blunder blame on the person(s) responsible rather than make JD the scapegoat.

    Go Figga.

  245. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 1:05 pm

^ lol. “it is what it is”

  246. papajoe2 February 4, 2015 1:05 pm

This really hurts, watching football crumble before my eyes. Coaches leaving. Players decommiting. Signing only 2 of the top 20 local recruits (some on the lower end are not commited yet or do not qualify). I’m thankful that we got the players that we did get, but when is this misery going to end? Chow and Jay are messing up. I knew it would get worst with the present staff, but when it actually happens, it hurts. Too late now BJ. Thanks for your national comments about the real chance of UH folding its football program and to coach for your losing record and pitiful playing and not having anyone drafted during your era. Been following UH football since the late 60s.

  247. al February 4, 2015 1:10 pm

I have never seen this many disgruntled folks out there in Warrior land.
“Does anybody really know what time it is?
    Does anybody really care?”

  248. Old Diver February 4, 2015 1:12 pm

    236

Well the guy who sent the money to an unsecured bank account was finally replaced about a month ago but I believe the legal staff is still there.

  249. Kifi February 4, 2015 1:14 pm

Hawaii football has a bright future. Looking forward to better things.

  250. seewhy February 4, 2015 1:16 pm

    On a side note.
    http://www.si.com/college-basketball/2015/02/04/syracuse-ncaa-investigation-postseason-ban

    Interesting…

  251. warrior dog February 4, 2015 1:19 pm

Just got my H program papers the other day. After today’s results and news guess who will be saving his $1500 donation until Chow and Jay are gone.

  252. bowwar February 4, 2015 1:20 pm

What about that 5 star QB??? Who is it and why don’t we grab him since we’ve loss those de-commits?

  253. graham February 4, 2015 1:21 pm

Does anyone know what the deal with coach Demo is? I was a fan of his? With this amount of turmoil Im surprised we signed anyone.

  254. bowwar February 4, 2015 1:22 pm

Not good, the buzz at the water cooler is absolute disgust…Where is the leadership when you need it? Somebody needs to get this ship turned around.

  255. kakaako kid February 4, 2015 1:22 pm

    #230
Don’t you mean offer to keep the coach as a sanction?

  256. NotNasti February 4, 2015 1:26 pm

    247: lol

  257. A-House February 4, 2015 1:27 pm

either I am really stupid or someone pulled off a fantastic feint

position coaches leaving and recruits going elsewhere as a no brainer from the last game – who in his/her right mind would take a football position at UH when the signs are all ready posted that it will be for 1 year only – if married, you bring your family over?

is the acting chancellor really concerned about UH athletics? he may say so, but his actions are contrary

well LOI day and list will be posted tomorrow

  258. Old Diver February 4, 2015 1:29 pm

Next head coach is going to have to be someone who has bought into modern strength and conditioning theory. Can’t leave it all on the practice field leaving the players too exhausted for the S&C sessions. Having players roll around on the field takes away from both. UH used to be the school loaded with zero to two star players along with a bunch of no name walk-on’s and sending them to the NFL and CFL. Armed with the right coach and teaching method the recruits who have signed with UH today could be our stars of tomorrow.

  259. lawaia February 4, 2015 1:32 pm

To all the incoming University of Hawaii football recruits. Mahalo Nui Loa for choosing Na Koa Anuenue. Congratulations to all our athletes who will be attending other colleges, Good Luck and Best Wishes.

  260. Derek February 4, 2015 1:32 pm

As of now I haven’t seen Zwahlen sign yet. And Lavaka. Any other contingencies, coach?

  261. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 1:33 pm

at least we have a bunch of scholarships leftover, since we didnt fill Wily, Afalava and Holmes’ spot.

i assume Webb and Hensley are getting Ulu-Perry and Northups count.

no clue what’s going on with Fieeiki.

  262. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 1:33 pm

So we sign 1 WR to this class??? When offense was our problem?? SMH…

    But yeah lets celebrate anyway

  263. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 1:34 pm

Derek, Zwahlen and Lavaka dont need to sign. they signed 3 years ago. we just have to squeeze our butts till May when they return from their mormon missions.

  264. randumb thought February 4, 2015 1:37 pm

  265. David J. February 4, 2015 1:37 pm

WELCOME! TO THE INTO THE FAMILY OF HAWAII NEW SIGNEES!. BUT THE BIGGEST PROLBEM IS? Who is the University of Hawaii football defensive coordinator? Whatever taking so danm long!

  266. 3-Prong February 4, 2015 1:40 pm

I want to echo lawaia’s sentiments…Welcome to all the new Rainbow Warriors!

  267. jimmy the lock February 4, 2015 1:40 pm

Congrats to all who have the opportunity to further their education.

    Happy hump day everyone.

  268. David J. February 4, 2015 1:42 pm

I don’t want to say GO WARRIORS! or GO ? !.

  269. Shoko February 4, 2015 1:47 pm

Syracuse: Hey, I don’t think we’re going to make the Big Dance this year.
Jim Boeheim: Yeah, it’s not looking good. Hate to play in the NIT as a consolation.
Syracuse: Think it would be a good time to self-impose postseason this year then?
    Jim Boeheim: Absolutely!

Maybe UH should self-impose, too, a postseason ban this year since they might not make any postseason this year.

  270. Shoko February 4, 2015 1:49 pm

Anyone know a link to watch Chow’s LOI press conference?

Curious to hear what he thinks of this year’s recruiting class.

  271. kryon February 4, 2015 1:52 pm

Seriously can ST give more details on john irsua? Is he coming? Wat Issues? When will it be cleared? Is he still interested in coming here? All I saw was a sentence about him. Can we get more info pls?

  272. kryon February 4, 2015 1:59 pm

Webb, Hensley, Agasiva, Norman move all to d line. Biggest roadblock in nation. Hehe.

  273. kapakahi February 4, 2015 2:06 pm

    #262,

Good bet that…..Lavaka will move to DL.

  274. NO CLASS February 4, 2015 2:10 pm

This blog is good, but sometimes unreadable. So much negativity. Today is not the day for your negativity. All you’re really saying is “my need to complain is greater than the UH Football program/Athletic Department.” Of course there’s problems. Today is not the day to air the dirty laundry. You have the rest of the year to do that.

Let’s the kids sign where they want. Support all of them no matter where they sign. It’s their life. Some will probably even return.

    Let’s look at Hawaii’s perks:

    1) Hawaii’s food is second to none in the US – ask the military folks – a mix-and mash of many ethnic foods – I lived in Cali and traveled all over. No place in the US beats Zippy’s, L&L drive-Inn, Rainbows Drive-Inn, Big City Diner, or where ever your favorite local grinds are at. Whenever I came back to Hawaii, those places are my first stop. And if you like mainland chain restaurants like Chili’s or Cheesecake Factory, Hawaii has that too.

    2) Tropical Paradise – enuff said

    3) Girls – exotically beautiful girls, and girls that have good family values

    4) Jobs – Kids wanting to live in Hawaii after college will make a name for themselves and their family and have a guaranteed good-paying job when they graduate. It’s all about name recognition. Think UH Athlete Beau Yap.

    5) Lifestyle – beach, mountain, sunshine, fresh air, blue sky, lots of outdoor activities, cool breeze, family, friends, peace and tranquility – that’s Hawaii (unless you fail to stop and smell the roses like some posters on here)

    6) People – people in Hawaii are GENERALLY some of the most tolerant in the US – we try to respect all cultures since Hawaii is so ethnically diverse – just ask Frank Delima

No fancy stadium, training facility, or big college name. But what Hawaii has other than that is PRICELESS. If you’re going to get a free ride scholly to Hawaii or a mainland school, it’s a no-brainer. I’d choose the Hawaii Lifestyle Perks all the way.

The people who don’t stop and smell the roses, just relax and take a chill pill. You’d feel a lot better if you posted positive posts, rather than being so negative and feeding off of each other’s negativity. You live Hawaii so enjoy it, and if you don’t, I truly feel sorry for you. Hawaii has more to offer than football. Life is more than football.

  275. hatakeman February 4, 2015 2:11 pm

shoko, I don’t know the link to Chow’s press conference, but you can watch a Q&A video on HawaiiAthletics web site, 2015 Signing Day Central.

  276. Inyoface February 4, 2015 2:15 pm

    Who’s Holmes, holmes?

  277. 3-Prong February 4, 2015 2:17 pm

I want to echo lawaia’s sentiment in welcoming all the new Rainbow Warriors to Paradise.

  278. Danzdaman February 4, 2015 2:25 pm

Shame on a lot of you! Why can’t you just say congratulations to all those who signed LOI’s no matter what school they signed with? I don’t care if you started supporting UH sports last year or the last sixty years, some of the things you say are shameful and outright disrespectful to the current and future student athletes. Ya’ll need to change your spiderman bibidees and grow up.

  279. kapakahi February 4, 2015 2:26 pm

Glad that Hensley accepted UH’s offer.

  280. islandman February 4, 2015 2:27 pm

231.–mojo; It was JD that executed that contract with Gib with the apparently generous termination without cause provision. Was that an akamai thing that he did ? As for Punahou, many want another person from there, Amemiya.
    ————————
So who is or was recently the recruiting coordinator for UH ? I know Rauscher had that title before.

  281. Shoko February 4, 2015 2:30 pm

Now its time to relax and lay to rest all the stress that signing day creates. Welcome to all the new recruits that signed today!

    264. Thanks. I’ll check HNN tonight as I’m sure they will air a clip of Chow’s presser. Sadly, seems all the other conference coaches get their press conferences streamed live via the MWC website except Hawaii.

  282. kapakahi February 4, 2015 2:31 pm

    Thankful that Agasiva……UH’s first verbal commitment……stayed true to UH……from April 2013…….through today’s NLI Day……

    http://warriorbeat.staradvertiserblogs.com/2014/04/18/mililani-o-lineman-chooses-uh/

  283. Old Diver February 4, 2015 2:31 pm

    269

I believe the contract makes sense. Can’t just fire people for no cause. The issue is should Jay have fired Arnold without cause.

  284. kapakahi February 4, 2015 2:32 pm

    …….from April 2014…..

  285. letsgowarriors February 4, 2015 2:33 pm

Agasiva and Matautia, gems of the class, IMO.

  286. Fei Jai February 4, 2015 2:36 pm

    @230. Notnasti.

First time I agree wit you.

You make good point. Me like your proposal.

  287. Shadow February 4, 2015 2:40 pm

    Couldn’t agree more, Danzdaman!

  288. jeffdman2000 February 4, 2015 2:42 pm

honestly im more sad we got like zero WR with speed. Honestly there is only so much lineman from Hawaii we can take…we need speed to compete

  289. NotNasti February 4, 2015 2:43 pm

Fei Jai: I just threw up my kool-aid.

  290. mytake February 4, 2015 2:46 pm

What’s with the negativity. I think the guys UH got are good sized. Especially the o line. Just because there not rated 4 and 5 stars by guys who never played the game. If Wittek can perform than this year could be ok. I like the returning mission guys. BYU made a living by having an older team.

  291. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 2:46 pm

    277. Yup. We whiffed bad on adding speed to our WR corps. Back to praying for Hail Marys getting tipped into our hands.

  292. jimmy the lock February 4, 2015 2:47 pm

No can blame recruits for not choosing the home team.

    On to the next hype.

  293. Shoko February 4, 2015 2:55 pm

Next week’s episode of Chow Time: The Replacements (coaching staff)

  294. Old School Dave February 4, 2015 3:05 pm

Welcome to all of the new Warrior Recruits. Thank you for representing the University of Hawaii.

Diamond in the rough? How come Norm never find dis guy? Rugby player with no football experience, but at 6.7 410 lbs. spotted on the basketball court in his native Tonga.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2353637-byu-lands-67-410-pound-lineman-motekiai-langi-on-national-signing-day

  295. kapakahi February 4, 2015 3:06 pm

Will be interesting to see……IF this “surprise call from a former 5-star quarterbck from one of the nation’s top FBS teams who expressed interest in transferring to UH” actually materializes into anything…….OR whether it was nothing but pre-NLI Day hype.

    Hmmm……

  296. Naks8 February 4, 2015 3:06 pm

Let’s welcome our new warriors to the team. Enough of the negative nancy comments. We were 1 qb away from a winning record last year and nearly beat 3 PAC 12 teams with recruiting classes that are always ranked low. None of you guys are scouts, so stop getting caught up in all the star ratings. It comes down to how much our boys want to win. From the attitude of some of you, you don’t want UH to win.

  297. Boolakanaka February 4, 2015 3:06 pm

I’m with Bruddha Kifi, support the boys that we have and let’s look forward to the upcoming season. Now, lest you think I’m pollyannaish–any of the guys that actually know me on the board, like DPK, will say I’m a fairly critical person.

That said, instead of enjoying the moment, without a game ever been played yet for the upcoming season, many want to make backhanded comments(perhaps unknowingly) about 18-19 year kids. Auwe, I just hope you never have to sit in the seat of these parents and kids. In the art world, there are hundreds or art critiques relative to every known artist. Critiquing is easy, actually being the artist (e.g a player and coach) is much more difficult….

  298. azwarrior22 February 4, 2015 3:08 pm

There is no way any local recruit should choose UNLV over Hawaii. Not only should Hawaii whup UNLV every time we play them, but there are no wahines and no beaches. There’s nothing to do there, unless you are 21 and can gamble. Mahalo to those recruits that stayed true to the word and signed with the Warriors, but overall this is a very disappointing class. I guess Chow is chasing Bottom 10 championships.

  299. islandman February 4, 2015 3:11 pm

272; old diver — all the contracts have the clause for termination without cause including the ones for Saban, etc. But they all usually refer to paying for the remaining amount of the contract . Like Norm’s contract and like Nash was paid.

  300. jimmy the lock February 4, 2015 3:12 pm

But the art that’s coming from Chow is very highly critiqueable…made up word but hope you get the point. Who knows, maybe one day his artwork will be priceless.

interesting to see a lot of school using the blueshirt option to “over sign” their class. i think we should try and poach some other schools blueshirts.

  302. jimmy the lock February 4, 2015 3:16 pm

azwarrior22, maybe those who chose UNLV saw a bigger picture, a brighter future over there than over here. They could have seen the past years history and the current situation with the coaches here at Manoa and decided to be a part of a new UNLV football era. Can’t fault them for that.

  303. amela February 4, 2015 3:17 pm

We have a bunch of receivers coming back who for one reason or another did not play last year. I think the umber one concern is we need defensive line help. And replace the coaches who have left, hello…

  304. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 3:17 pm

    Or go for grey shirts…

Matt Colburn 4.36 40 could replace Desean Holmes…

  305. Pete Jek February 4, 2015 3:33 pm

I think our skill positions are okay. We’re not going to outrun anybody but we don’t have to to win. Given the parity in our conference, the focus should be outworking, outhustling, outcompeting the opponent. And being more fundamentally sound. It’s a tough task to do that but it’s doable. The team should already have a chip on its shoulder to begin with.

  306. Cardale Jones jr February 4, 2015 3:36 pm

Congrats Warriors on your commitment!! #positive thoughts

  307. azwarrior22 February 4, 2015 3:39 pm

#301 – don’t get me wrong but I like visiting UNLV, except when my wife blows all my money at the casinos, but for a new 17 or 18 yr old recruit, there’s not much to do there if you’re not 21.

  308. oldyobo February 4, 2015 3:47 pm

IF BJ had the guts to do the right thing last year of firing Chow and eaten the $1.4 million contract, UH would have at least 4000 more season tickets holders, negating the buyout of Chow, a new coach who would have enhanced recruiting this year and bringing new hope and retaining ticket sales, and increasing booster donations and sales of UH merchandize. Instead, UH is headed for another disaster of a season and another season of lower attendance. Furthermore, we are now so far behind in terms of having talent that a new coach will have a far greater challenge in turning the program around.

  309. BigFan February 4, 2015 3:50 pm

Mel Davis signed according to UH website.

I have absolutely no idea where you’re getting your facts, but you are probably pulling them out of your okole. Boise St. spends more money on recruiting annually than Florida State, and around the same as Texas ($550,000-$600,000). Both those schools have an insane amount of funds. Get your facts right before you shoot off at the mouth about something you don’t know anything about.

I’m so tired of fair-weather ignorant Hawaii fans. All of you trolls should shut up already. I see so many of you just spouting ignorance. It’s sickening, and disheartening for any recruit who reads this blog.

There are certain posters here who I regularly disagree with, Jeezy33 and Letsgowarriors for instance. But they speak their mind and believe in their convictions. You can tell they love Hawaii football and only want the best for the program, so they are certainly entitled to their opinions. But so many others are just complete fools and show time and time again that you know NOTHING about the sport and the business that is college football. It’s time you get the hell out of here.

Being that the Utah HS Class of 2015 prospects is so highly touted…..just like the local Hawaii HS Class of 2015 prospects, was hoping for a Utah HS signee or two.

I’m no body language expert, but it’s pretty obvious in his presser that Chow looks defeated and isn’t doing a very good job selling the media/fans that he got the guys he wants.

You can tell the glow on a coaches face when they locked up some kids they really wanted. It’s a kid in a candy store look.

  327. Pomai February 4, 2015 4:36 pm

So all of you negative people I have a question for you “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR UH LATELY” It’s easy to sit at your computer and rag on UH but not so easy to get off your a ss an get involved…. So as far as I am concerned you guys suck!!!!

  328. Shoko February 4, 2015 4:37 pm

Here’s an interesting story about football recruiting expenses and the amount various members of the Mountain West Conference had spent. Ironically, UNLV was at number 2 in money spent for football recruiting which hasn’t translated to wins. Even more interesting is UNLV’s recruiting budget has been increased by some anonymous entity.

    http://www.rgj.com/story/sports/college/nevada/2015/02/02/how-much-money-does-wolf-pack-football-spend-in-recruiting/22755999/

  329. Not an Expert February 4, 2015 4:39 pm

If Chow had the respect, loyalty and the coaching staff new that 2015 was the payoff year and the start of good things to come, his coaching staff may have considered staying for one more year. Apparently not so because if it was promising they would be able to get better opportunities due to winning at UH. Whatever the reason for Demarest leaving he did so up to the last moment of signing day for recruits. If that was his decision, respect to the man for doing so.

  330. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 4:41 pm

327? What have you done? Besides care about what others think of UH football. You go to a restaurant and your food sucks, you don’t complain ever? Season ticket holders, PPV subscribers, etc. have every right to express their honest opinion… I sure hope you aren’t negative about anything in life…

  331. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 4:44 pm

#318 justsomeguy, I get MY facts (in this case) from the Reno Gazette-Journal, which in turn obtained the numbers from a USA Today database on college football recruiting.

From 2009 to 2013, here are the average recruiting expenses per season for MWC schools:

    1. Air Force $405,181
    2. UNLV $296,008
    3. Colorado St. $295,771
    4. New Mexico $252,200
    5. Wyoming $191,125
    6. Utah State $180,661
    7. San Diego St. $173,559
    8. San Jose St. $159,319
    9. Hawaii $142,201
    10. Boise St. $131,641
    11. Nevada $117,430
    12. Fresno St. $114,630

    http://www.rgj.com/story/sports/college/nevada/2015/02/02/how-much-money-does-wolf-pack-football-spend-in-recruiting/22755999/

Before you accuse someone of being “ignorant” and “shooting off their mouth about something they don’t know anything about” perhaps you should do some research of your own. Google is good for that, if you know how to use it.

  332. HawaiiMongoose February 4, 2015 4:46 pm

Shoko, I see you posted the same link as I was writing my response justsomeguy.

  333. Derek February 4, 2015 4:47 pm

Saw Paul Harris’ highlights and listed him to have run a 4.34 40. Don’t know if it’s legit, but seeing is believing when he gets here. He could be the answer for kickoff return duties besides playing running back. Film showed good quickness, pass catching ability too, and good change of direction. Looked to have very good vision to see open holes quickly. Of course, highlights are highlights. We’ll see.

  334. shoichi84 February 4, 2015 4:50 pm

For me it’s not the fact that people are negative. Given the past few seasons it makes perfect sense that people question what is going on and wonder about the future. It’s the way that some go about it that is tiring. There’s no need to be demeaning and to say hurtful things of perfectly nice people from the anonymity of your home computer. I just wish everyone could keep it classy. I guess that’s too much to ask for in the internet age though.

  335. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 5:02 pm

    334. Actually, I think most fans only care if demeaning things are said about “Hawaii” athletes. I have never seen a complaint when someone talks bad about a UH opponent nor do I see people care when fans make fun of Jameis Winston for that matter… Because he’s no different than a student athlete at Hawaii.

  336. shoichi84 February 4, 2015 5:08 pm

Jeezy, I’m can’t say because I’m never on this board as often as I am today. I wouldn’t condone that either though. But man, it’s just tiring to read through. I just came for news about signees but to have to slog through all the hate is so depressing.

  339. Warbow February 4, 2015 5:18 pm

323… He says 2 remaining coaches will also leave. By saying remaining I assume what’s remaining on the defensive side of the ball. There’s only 2 coaches left on defensive, would hate to see both of them leave. Chow has a history of not getting along with other coaches, I’m surprised those leaving lasted that long.

  340. pollypicador February 4, 2015 5:18 pm

Why does it have to be “it is what it is?”

The bus has broken down and the riders can’t get to their places

Understand that this in turn explains for all the rider’s long faces

Some hold their anger in check

Others bemoan the driver’s skid and wreck

    Some hold to their destiny

Others bemoan the drivers spin and incompetency

On good ole days past the bus was the tops

It was welcoming sight at every stop

There were pickups of MWC championship, gems and happy riders

Now there are drop offs of bowl invites, team standards and Chow dividers

Today the bus sits, like a white elephant, in disdain

With paper tigers being the bane

The hiring of the driver in the first place

    Has lead to this disgrace

Along with so many false expectations, fears and ills

Barring a miracle it will be a lost for the bus to challenge a last hope, critics and another steep hill…

With the writing on the wall of the bus spelling doom

It will be a surprise if any planting of seeds come into bloom

One sits desperately wanting to get from point A to B

Thus the rebuttal “it is what it is” is unfit for some to see

Welcome the UH to all the young men who chose UH. You will get a solid undergrad degree if you work hard in the classroom. See boola. Proof.

    That is all.

The bus is running. Are you getting on or not?

    LET’S GO BOWS!

  347. ArcumFortis February 4, 2015 5:43 pm

I hope this season is an improvement over last but like many here I find myself less optimistic than I can ever remember. If half way through the season it is the same old thing then we need to relieve coach Chow of his duties, promote one of the coordinators (who ever they will be) to HC and initiate the coaching seach before the season is over.

For this to happen we need to have a football savvy AD in place. If I was going to spend UH money at present the AD job is where I would want to spend it. The new AD will need to navigate the program through a coaching change. The AD will be the most important hire UH makes this year. Otherwise we have another horrible year, wait until the end of the season to fire the coach, mess up another recruiting year and go round that painful circle once again. Actually the opportunity to hire your own football HC from the start might make an otherwise unattractive AD position a little more attractive to someone.

Unfortunately I don’t think there is anyone in charge at UH who has the capability and foresight to look ahead and see what needs to be done…..other than form another committee.

Coach Chow was on 1420 and gave a very upbeat interview. He said they filled the player positions that they needed with the recruiting. With respect to coaches leaving, it happens all the time. He even offered to help coach Jones pack. I liked that he didn’t mention anything about the seniors needing to “step up”. I hope he can be successfully in this 4th season, but mostly don’t want him blaming the players should events prove otherwise. So for now, we live “in the best of all possible worlds”.

  360. kryon February 4, 2015 6:26 pm

Hope Farris news is real. Can’t get enuff of big corner types.

  361. Sangamon Keith February 4, 2015 6:26 pm

Some folks are talking about how poorly Rivals rates our recruiting class without even looking at what Rivals considers our class. They are showing that we only have nine recruits and do not have ratings on three jucos (Davis, Fieeike and Norman) and the kid from Samoa (Moananu). Even worse, two (Fieeike and Kainoa Wilson) of the nine are not even shown as signing their LOIs yet.

So if you think this class is that bad when it includes Wittek (4 stars QB), Mel Davis (3 stars RB), Hensley (3 stars OL) and Matautai (3 star LB) among others, I’d say you’re more bias than you think. Hensley for Northrup isn’t as bad as being portrayed … even if I had wanted Northrup (2 star OL) too. If you count the class as the 20 or 22 that UH has actually given scholarships to, we’re certainly better than the 126th that people are citing. Remember, we out in the middle of the Pacific on Hawaii Standard Time. These recruiting services have no idea who we’ve actually recruited for another week. By then, they won’t care and probably will not even change their list of UH recruits or change our ranking. That’s what has happen in the past … so why not this time around too.

    Just my opinion, Keith

  362. kryon February 4, 2015 6:27 pm

Duke provides its bsktball players with iPads. Something like what Stephen mentioned awhile ago, it ‘s okay if everyone gets one.

“Players can use the devices as long as they remain a part of the team. The iPads will remain school property for that time, but players can then buy them at market value upon graduation if desired.”

Now, let me get this straight…. a basketball coach who was fired “without cause” to avoid litigation and NCAA allegations on his resume, now wants more money now that he could have fired “with cause” for his alleged guilt.

Hmmm, saying he needs more money to defend his good name sounds a lot like scheduling a Thursday football game to gain two extra days to prepare for and defeat Ohio State… 😐

Mr. A-House, like I mentioned before, coaches who are not secure in their ability to get a job next year won’t want to come. You wouldn’t want that kind of coach anyway because they think too negatively. Some good coaches who are secure in their abilities will replace the ones who left.

  397. jeezy33 February 4, 2015 10:13 pm

Great interview with Hartley… Now that is what I call passion… Wish more UH sports had players with passion like that… And coaches… hmmm

  398. NotNasti February 4, 2015 10:17 pm

Great match! Good win for Chuck and the men’s program. Especially with Micah and Tui on the other side of the net. Is it me, or does Tui look like a 40 yr. old man?

Chow said on the radio today that coaches leaving speaks highly of the program.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hilarious!!!!!

  405. kev-1 February 4, 2015 11:06 pm

Gotta admire Powell’s loyalty. Honestly, I hope he is keeping his options open. I would hate for him to be stuck going down with the ship.

  406. st. anthony trojan February 4, 2015 11:06 pm

Hmmmm just read sum where…Mr. D….GOT NO JOB OFFERS ??

  407. kev-1 February 4, 2015 11:16 pm

I am happy that we got the kids that we got today. I am disappointed with some that we did not get, but can’t really say I can blame them.

  408. kev-1 February 4, 2015 11:18 pm

One more comment about what Chow said on the radio … he took a stab at some recruits that decommitted after their visits by saying that the “decommittal” is sometimes both ways that that he wants high character guys in his program. Sooo …

  409. st. anthony trojan February 4, 2015 11:31 pm

kev-1…you better stop…you making him look bad…he he he

Please pray tell…why offer scholies to men of questionable character…n if they come here..they are on their best character…or just came 4 the trip ?

maybe they taught our ‘men’ how to drink n chase skirts huh ?

  410. jeffdman February 4, 2015 11:47 pm

what happened to Wilson from Mililani?

  411. al February 5, 2015 12:14 am

Two little birdies chirped that a DC is coming soon. Nice resume, too.

  412. al February 5, 2015 12:15 am

  413. al February 5, 2015 12:20 am

Er, rally scoring is the method with which volleyball now employs at most levels of play. The fifth game is just that the fifth America.

  414. David J. February 5, 2015 1:31 am

I really love whatever the writers have been saying! But it’s really funny that? A lots of you are talking about football over here!. But one person ( Shoko) is talking about basketball!. And all of us are talking about football! But sorry you are in the wrong sport program!

  415. Loa February 5, 2015 3:50 am

    morning gang!

congratulations to the signee’s and their ohana.

    http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?path=football&#coaches_anchor

The UH athletic site still list the 3 coaches that have departed. (as of this writing)

Why? All it takes is a few second to update the site.

Why is the site (or Chow) trying preserve the perception that his staff is still intact? Did the power(s) to be fear that if they showed a dwindling coaching staff it would plant the wrong ideas in recruits? Fans? Evoke criticism?

    To be blunt-why the deception.

There have been instances in the past where a players spot on the official roster has been instantaneously deleted, especially the ones that ran afoul of Chow or walked off the team. Here, right before my eyes, right in the important days of the recruiting year, I see a fraud.

When, if rumors prove correct, and two additional assistant coaches depart (bringing the total to 5), is the site going to carry on as business as usual and purposely not update the site? It wouldn’t surprise me.

In conclusion: For the most part the site has been on top of things…is this a case where Johnny on the spot is restrained from doing his job?

  417. Maddog50 February 5, 2015 5:01 am

Regarding how Chow came across on his presser and QandA. A little disappointed and confident. I am sure the recruiting effort was full court and exhausting. Realistically losing out on 3 kids and just could not pull off the specials such as Perry and Holmes. All that being said I think it is a good group with some additions to be made. Again the rating services will reflect poorly on that effort but all the pieces that will report to the roster as new to the program is pretty darn good. Go Warriors!

  418. Tempmanoa February 5, 2015 5:56 am

I am not a negative person– quite the opposite and I am patient. But I am reaching my limits. We need to correct our mistakes and fix a lot of serious problems we all know we have– we cannot ignore these or stop complaining until we see some efforts to change and some success in doing this. I usually hate the negative comments, but after what has happened, I can understand the ones who are negative as long as they are not hateful– I find myself more like them everyday that we see no change or improvement.

It could just be sheer laziness rather than a conspiracy in not updating a website.
It’s like writing to some company asking them to delete your address from their mailing list (AARP, for example). I keep telling my wife it probably costs more for them to delete your name from their mailing list than to just keep it on.

It also could be whoever the webmaster is, has better things to do!

(NOTE – been a paying member of AARP for years – get all their discounts, their monthly magazine etc but still get mail after mail asking me to join)

  420. Old School Dave February 5, 2015 6:49 am

Take it with a grain of salt: Coaches (at Alabama, USC, Boise State, and even UH) don’t really know how their recruits will pan out. Alex Smith was a 1 star QB out of high school. Jake Heaps and Ross Apo (BYU) were 5 star recruits. Lots of stories like that. It’s all a crap shoot.

  421. kapakahi February 5, 2015 7:35 am

Really didn’t…..and still don’t……appreciate Chow’s disingenuous radio interview yesterday afternoon with the Sports Animals…….downplaying the significance of the unexpected and/or late de-commits……not to big-name programs…….but to other MWC programs (Afalava & Wily to UNLV, Northup to Fresno State, Holmes to SDSU, Cronk & Woo to Utah State)……implying that they were not significant losses…….and/or that it was UH’s decision to back-off some of these kids……..because of some character flaw noticed by host players during the recruiting visit……saying that they wouldn’t have been good fits with UH’s program.

Specifically saying that Holmes wasn’t a big loss since UH is loaded at WR……was a totally disingenuous statement by Chow……after saying during last season that UH lacked speed at WR to stretch the field.

While Chow’s explanations may have sounded acceptable to the casual UH football fan…..like Gary Dickman, it was a pure insult to the intelligence……for hardcore UH football fans…….especially those of us (like Jeezy)……who follow football recruiting year-round.

Turns out that Chow’s radio interview……was no different than any recent interview with any UH Manoa official……disingenuous and lacking of integrity…..

  422. kapakahi February 5, 2015 7:58 am

Was hoping for an open honest interview…….like those given by some other UH coaches……Beeman, Taylor, Wade, Shoji, Coolen, Nagamine, Trap…..

  423. Shoko February 5, 2015 8:05 am

Hmm, I made one comment about basketball in response to someone posting a story about Syracuse basketball and I’m accused of being in “in the wrong sport program!”? That’s pretty funny.

Anyway, so I hear rumors that there might be an announcement earlier this week regarding replacements on the coaching staff?

  424. Ipu Man February 5, 2015 8:12 am

    Congrats to all the recruits.
    “Go For Broke”…
    No Fear…
And hope coach Chow allows Long Hair 🙂

  425. sofaking_blk February 5, 2015 8:12 am

IMHO all of this could’ve been prevented. Chow should’ve been fired after the 2013 season but the UHAD chose to “save money”. That tells me that the football program is not a big priority and it should be because it’s the ONLY game in town. These big time recruits are not dumb, they see what’s been going on out here. You can’t fault them for not coming here with the way thing are right now. I’ve been a fan since 92 and I never seen it this bad, not even during the Von Appen era. I don’t think people complain just to be negative, I know I don’t. But the players, the fans and this state deserves better than this and if we don’t complain then nothing will EVER change.

  426. sofaking_blk February 5, 2015 8:14 am

To all of the recruits who chose to come here, to them I say Mahalo!

  427. kryon February 5, 2015 8:19 am

So u would rather hear chow say they r disappointed with their recruits n we pushed n told all local recruits to leave n play else where? U also believe that everyone fits in at uh? That’s like saying manning would have the same results in the Superbowl if he took bradys place. No way. Some fit in a system, some don’t. There’s no garanz in recruiting. Jus cuz u c someone u like, doesn’t mean they like us, Or they fit in here. Jus cuz u c someone wit 4.3 speed doesnt mean he is goback ng to b a game breaker. Trust me. Im a raider fan n al davis was known for taking track guys. More times they didnt pan out. Let’s jus b happy in what we got n hope we get others to join us late that will help make diff.

  428. kryon February 5, 2015 8:25 am

I never saw complaining change anything. Complaining gets u nowhere. If complaining produced change for the better, damn I would I have everything I ever dreamed of. Positive vibes, thinking, n support has a better outcome then complaining.

  429. Shoko February 5, 2015 8:33 am

Interesting that SDSU announced the hiring of Air Force’s quarterbacks coach, Blane Morgan, today even though he’s coming from a triple option that isn’t known as a pass-heavy offense. I guess if you’re a quarterback that has played and coached that position it doesn’t really matter what offense you’re have experience in.

So what you’re saying is that you’re totally satisfied with what’s been going on here for the past 3 years. The losing records, the poor ticket sales, the coaching carousel, the poor recruiting, hell we can’t even get 25 guys to come here anymore. Now if you’re ok with all of that then more power to you brah.

  431. seewhy February 5, 2015 9:09 am

Interesting article. I wonder how SDSU is going to be this year now that the Oregon transfer and former four star recruit QB Jake Rodrigues is eligible.
