Allen, Nevels arrive // Banquet time
Hawaii basketball recruiting targets Corey Allen and Garrett Nevels of Mount San Antonio College (Calif.) are expected to attend the Rainbow Warriors’ team banquet tonight at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tapa Ballroom.
They’re believed to be primary targets among UH’s top five recruiting prospects for next season. The guard pair arrived in Honolulu late Tuesday night, and will be here until Thursday morning. (Allen is pictured on left with Nevels on right.)
Having recruits in for a mid-week visit is pretty unusual for Gib Arnold, but was out of necessity with Arnold just returning from mainland recruiting and a dead period approaching during the Final Four.
Allen previously visited UTEP. It’s believed this is Nevels’ first official visit. Other schools expressing interest in the pair are West Virginia and Seton Hall, as well as a number of Big West and WAC schools.
Another pertinent question regarding tonight’s banquet: will embattled senior center Vander Joaquim make an appearance coming off his infamous arena walk-out? No one has been able to tell me definitively either way so far — some people think he’ll go, others say no. We’ll find out soon.
He should man up and be humble and go to the banquet to support his teammates.
Also be present for all the people who support the program.
If we can score this dynamic duo, I see LOTS of post-season opportunities in the coming years for UH!
I TOT I WEN READ DAT DEY WEN COMMIT TO LONGBEACH STATE.
Brian – do you know if Ronnie Stevens is still coming?

Allan, You tot wrong, they going to be Warriors !
Brian: Besides Vander, were there any other UH MBB team members not in attendance?
Or were all 15 (besides VJ)there?
Just curious.
They Gonna Be Warriors!
Sign ʻEm Up, GIB!
That can be OUR Final Four Weekend Victory…
End the “Canʻt Recruit Guards” Silliness…
Then we need The Big Sugar Daddy Supporter to Sign On
Military Appreciation and Aloha Appreciation Unis would rock, too
If the Legislature continues to approve new or old BOR member based on the same criteria, will there ever be a time that the “high mucka, mucka” regents really put the University and student first?
Poorboy — Vander was the only player missing.
Biggestuhfan — I do not believe Ronnie Stevens is still in UH’s plans. His sophomore season at Indian Hills CC was a very quiet one.
Attended the banquet last night and Aunty Ruth stated that Vander is in or is heading to Portsmouth for the basketball camp. I hear that it is pretty prestigeous. The feeling seemed to be pretty calm. No one angry about what happened. I think Vander could have or should have handled the situation better but I think everyone invovled has put it behind them. Even Gib said he wanted everyone to remember Vander as one of the best to play at UH.
Vander showed his true colors which is he is nothing but an immature child who is selfish and self-centered in his egotistical ways. No matter the records he broke..his legacy will always be his selfishness and immaturity in abandoning his team and walking away from them. Nothing more and nothing less.
Thanks Brian for the update on Ronnie Stevens. Looks like it was for the best that he did not qualify out of high school.
biggestuhfan:
Maybe Gib is looking to bring in a good young guy , 6’10” who can score, a JC transfer, rebound, pass the ball out to shooters when doubled, and works with team, for the team. You never know. A tall, lengthy athletic Big, similar to VJ, however with the quickness to read defenses and make good passes.
Also, for the Bigs currently, having Shamburger or another solid scoring PG to run Offense and Defense, will make Standhardinger, Fotu, Dressler, whomever down in the post in half court, much more effective. The guys work hard this offseason, and the new guys bond, united, for the team united, not for stats, UH MBB team could have a good team, a very good team in 2013-14!!
