By Stephen Tsai on December 3, 2013

The Rainbow Warrior football will have a memorial service for running back Willis Wilson on Monday, Dec. 9, in the Stan Sheriff Center. The service is open to the public. The time has not been determined, although initial plans call for it to be held in the evening. Wilson, 21, died of an apparent drowning off Sandy Beach this past Saturday.

Meetings

By Stephen Tsai on December 2, 2013

The Rainbow Warriors had their final team meeting of the year this morning, followed by their final training table of the year. A couple of hours later, the coaches met. Some of the coaches hit the road Wednesday for recruiting. Once again, the wish list includes corners, defensive ends and offensive linemen. * * * * * Click on the icons for the videos: Scott Harding, MVP: Sean Schroeder, offensive player of the year: Beau Yap, defensive player of the […]

Pardon the interruption

By Stephen Tsai on December 1, 2013

Apparently there was some storm-related problem that … oh, OK, that excuse wasn’t going to work. But it appeared the server was down this morning. Anyhoo, we’re back. For the Rainbow Warriors, it was a nice end to a difficult season. But there were close games, Joey Iosefa and Sean Schroeder came through big in the second half, and this was the rare season in which people looked forward to seeing a punter punt. Recruiting is under way, some transfers […]

Willis Wilson (1992-2013)

By Stephen Tsai on November 30, 2013

Running back Willis Wilson apparently drowned off Sandy’s this morning. He was among a group of three men and two women who were wading in shallow water this morning. After a while, they noticed he was missing. HFD and Coast Guard rescuers were summoned. Wilson’s body was recovered at dawn. Wilson transferred from Washington this past summer. He was on the travel roster for the first three road games. This past Monday, he rushed nine times for 115 yards and […]

Relax

By Stephen Tsai on November 29, 2013

Sure, there were fist bumps and other such unsightly celebrations for middle-aged folks when a get-tough plan was announced to the UH Board of Regents. It went something like this: Meet the budget (or, at least come close by $1 million) or else programs will be cut. In three years. As an old fart who has witnessed we-really-mean-it threats for decades, the response should be: Hah. That tactic might have worked at Saint Mary’s when it dropped football (coincidentally, UH […]

Turkey Bowl

By Stephen Tsai on November 28, 2013

The Rainbow Warriors’ final full practice of 2013 concludes with today’s Turkey Bowl featuring redshirts and under-used players. Because of Army’s aggressive blocking, the Warriors will be in full pads today, a rare style for what is usually a lighter Thursday practice. * * * * * Tight end Jordan Pu‘u-Robinson’s injury filled year has come to an end. He has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus. Joining him on the sideline will be Moses Samia, Ben Dew and Keith […]

Congrats to Princess Leila

By Stephen Tsai on November 27, 2013

Congrats to the newest mom — Princess Leila. * * * * * In the past couple of weeks the Rainbow Warriors have secured commitments from two East Coast players —cornerback Nick Nelson of Suitland High (District Heights, Md.) and strong safety Aaron Glover of Princess Anne High (Virginia Beach) — and they might not be done in that region. Daronte’ Jones, who coaches the defensive secondary, has been the point recruiter in the D.C. area and, depending on the […]

Wilson stars in scrimmage

By Stephen Tsai on November 26, 2013

In what  has become a weekly routine, the Rainbow Warriors staged a scrimmage yesterday evening. Ikaika Woolsey went all the way, completing 9 of 15 passes for 111 yards. Willis Wilson had nine carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson also broke tackles with spinning moves he described as “The Cecil” — in tribute to teammate Cecil Doe. Here’s the play-by-play: • 1-10 O 40 — Jason Muraoka rush for 6 • 2-4 O 46 — Ikaika Woolsey complete […]
