5th and good morning!
Enjoy the lu’au!
Dang. 25 and clear.
Good morning going back to sleep. I woke up early and made spam musubi’s for my grand kids for a school excursion. My wife still snoring. Go Rainbow Warriors go get your first win…no think just go for broke.
No comments on the game because I could neither see nor hear it. Did catch one Joey TD. #uhnottakingcareofmainlandfans
Other than that. Good morning. Thanks as always to ST for his hard work covering both wins and losses and keeping us interested in the players. Looking forward to senior night.
Good morning!
Congrats to Marleysdad!
I miss Cecil Doe. Talented guy.
ST, thanks for the scrimmage stats.
Sean Schroder and Chris Gant put up Record setting type Run N Shoot numbers, SS had 499 passing yards with 6 TD and Gant 174 yard with 4 TD. 624 total offensive yards with 56 points but the defense was terrible giving up 793 yards with 59 points. Seriously giving up just shy of 800 yards on defense! Not many offenses can overcome such a porous defense.

Aloha and Mahalo Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine for your efforts, loyalty, and perserveance. The autumn months always brings out, “I wish I live on Oahu,” because of Warrior football and Wahine Volleyball. Thankfully, the wish passes when both seasons are pau and I thank my Akua for good ol’ Hilo.
I can understand that game tickets are expensive and that many people don’t attend games because they can’t afford it. I have a hard time understanding that the won/loss record determines game attendance for those who can afford it. In my lifetime of 65+ years, I have attended only 2 UH football games and 1 Wahine Volleyball game. In my younger years, I couldn’t go to HNL because my occupation required weekend work and now that I’m retired, I, frankly, can’t afford it. My bucket list also has Rainbow Baseball and Rainbow softball.
I’m addressing this to those who don’t like the coach and stopped attending games and buying tickets. That may get rid of Chow, but the lack of revenue may get rid of other UH sports and maybe, football.
Guud morning Tsaikos…
Not sure if I happy or not. Scrimmage, D gave up 4 td’s out of 7 drives, not so good but O showed some “get it done” attitude.
If this scrimmage was for seldom used players, not sure what to make if it come next season. Will be able to score but not make stops? Lots of long runs.
Still great to see the Warriors going hard!
IMUA WARRIORS!
Sometimes, …”you don’t know what you got till it’s gone”…..I like that song.

You may or may not like the Man, but boycotts don’t fund programs.
NorthShoreFan points out: “you don’t know what you got till it’s gone”.
Wilson still has eligibility next year?
Happy Thanksgiving Tuesday to all.
And kudos to the unsung linemen both offense and defense in the scrimmage.
Without you, no can.
For the guys who work hard in scrimmages and on the practice squad, remember you’re undefeated!!!!

Mahalo for the reminder
ST, email sent.
UHfan808, I’ll be there.
Chow and co. need to go .Pathetic performance for two longggg years.
Tsaikos,
There are some parents who can not come up with the $100 to attend to luau to be with their Rainbow Warrior on this traditional season ending celebration.
Please join me in contacting Na Koa to ‘sponsor’ some parents. It’s for the players and families!
See you at the luau.
Don-get my personal email from ST, and I’ll sponsor a mom n dad, so they can attend. ST, you got my permission.
Mr. Don…# 30… why not have a special price for mom n dad.. n for that matter seniors…especially if they are on a fixed income…??? If this is for the players.. then we should take care of the parents.. n not to ask “hand outs for the parents.. may be embarrassing for some..lets be a sensitive here ..just a wee bit if possible..just my one piso… sitting here in Manila…
Not a bad day for Woolsey.. no interceptions and 60% completion. Still like to see them get a much higher completion ration during practice and scrimmage.
another reminder for the afternoon crowd…
that other dude is inching up to her..
lets get Ms. Emily Hartong more votes….

#30:
Exactly what did you have in mind on how this would work?
Individual donations to Na Koa naming a specific parent so they can attend the luau?
How many parents need the assistance?
Is it within the “rules” for NaKoa to subsidize and later ask for donations to cover the cost? or, would this be a NCAA violation?
doing some due diligence – thanks!!!
Offering discounted tickets to a banquet, albeit a team banquet, involving the parents/relatives/friends/significant others, etc.. of student-athletes would count as a “BENEFIT” in the eyes of the NCAA.
If I am wrong about this, then I was advised incorrectly.
36-Kevin, I think you are correct. Banquet meals for players parents are usually tethered to the requirement that said parents pay full cost of the meal. I’m not aware of any exceptions to thus rule.
Aloha All,
I met with Amanda (UH compliance) and if the $$ are run through Na Koa and then given as cash to the parents (to buy luau tickets) then it is within the guidelines. Guidelines came from Amanda’s office directly to Na Koa and it is in writing and on file.
Na Koa needs to handle the donation and it may be made via credit card as I did.
I understand the touchy topic of handouts but Na Koa knows of the need as identified by coaching staff (I spoke with Tony Tuioti and Norm Chow) and all of this is anonymous.
Again, my donation was to Na Koa to further the support of the team and football community.
Please contact the Na Koa office and speak with Joyce. She has the form that is needed to be Fax’d back to her at the office.
For all going to the luau let’s meet there and say hello to put pen name (blog name) to real face.
ST
Please send Boolakanaka’s e-mail to me as per his request.
Bylaw 6.4.2.1 defines “extra benefit” as paying for a parents admission to a sports related banquet.
On Cindy’s blog they were talking about everyone got moved to the lower bowl seats at the SSC for men’s volleyball. I wonder if they are going to do that at Aloha Stadium to make the stadium look more crowded. They were saying that it should also help with the cheering and noise making at the SSC which is what is needed at the stadium. Just wondering.
Boolakanaka,
As long as UH Compliance vetted the idea and process I am not going to ask for further explanation.
I guess you could say that the coaches at USU (Gary Andersen) also didn’t give Higgins a fair shot when he played there his freshman year (2011).
On a brighter note – you just gotta SMILE:

Weber State has fired their head coach after just 2 seasons there. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/sports/57185296-77/weber-football-state-sears.html.csp
i don’t know if he had a fair shot..where ever he was ..or has been..
was just saying..how coaches evaluate differently..to
their system…. guess he had a fair shot at St. Louis then…
and made the most of it…
Someone needs to get on the I.T. guys at this paper for days now just trying to get into the blogs takes forever and posting a comment takes even longer.
last call really… me here in manila.. n so very fast 4 me..

that means WR Coach Craig Stutzman might have to go look for a job.

GO WARRIORS!!!
Hmm, buying banquet tickets for parents sounds very much like an “extra benefit”, especially if it involves the exchange of cash.
I was under the impression that if a team hosts a banquet and parents (relatives, or friends) are invited, they must pay for the cost of their meal.
Then again, if the compliance department said its okay then I’m guess it fine.
Usually record the UH Football games and save the winning games to watch again in the off season.
Still nothing to watch on the DVR after this season. And the beer still sits in the refrigerator, from the beginning of the season, waiting for a win.
On the bright side, I don’t get so sad after losing nowadays. Apathy is setting in.
53–until I see clarification in writing from the UH compliance office on this issue of subsidizing players’s parents for an athletic banquet, I’m going to hold off on my donation. I use to be the NCAA compliance rep at the U.of New Mexico, and that was not my understanding of the rule. It may have changed, but I would need to see it in writing.
Sounds odd.
Blog has been slow to refresh for several days. Sometimes it just sits and thinks for a heck of a long time.
Watching the Maui Invitational. Looking for my cousin who usually runs the shot clock at UH games & other BB games. Dayton looking good.
I’m staying home from a hula event so I can catch the game this weekend. Is it on TV at all?
Good luck to the team & congratulations to the Seniors.
GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!!!
I have to say the $5.00 ticket donation for football tickets sold this weekend is really a crass publicity stunt to sell tickets – that total $20,000 should be sent immediately to those in need in the Philippines, not held hostage to the number of people through the gate to benefit a program’s bottom line. Shame on Ben Jay for agreeing to this cheap marketing ploy in lieu of immediate and direct support for disaster relief.
I have a hard time understanding the Na Koa donation and them paying for the banquet tickets. Seems to me you would have to ear mark the donation so they would know that’s what it’s for.
How does that differ from just buying the tickets and putting it all in a pool for parents to use?
I’m willing to donate if this can be cleared up and I can get my donation over there in time.
#55 wafan, ditto here. “refresh” takes sooooo loooong to refresh….
thought it was my connection but ..not….
Boolakanaka,
I believe RWG-16-5 allows complimentary admissions to the family members of a SA prior to the final year of NCAA eligibility.
HOWEVER its probably in regards to said SA specifically if said SA is receiving an award at a banquet?
I am having issues trying to find the wording and exact literature though. I cant remember where I read it though…
Not to make light of the potential ramifications of wahtever rule is being questioned, but…if its this much trouble to go to an awards banquet, maybe have Sunday dinner with the family at home.
Thought ATT was throttling me too. No Spam but slow.
#4: This blog is not compatible with old rotary phones… ;p
Don Weir – the end of the season Luau being held this Sunday is $50/ person, NOT $100 as when you were running Na Koa. It was moved to campus to reduce cost to make it more affordable for families to attend. It may still be too much for some families to afford, so if there are people who are able to sponsor families or players, it’s always welcome.
Donations made to Na Koa for the Luau will help pay for all the players, coaches and staff that attend the luau as guests of Na Koa.
Previous years, the end of season banquet would run at a big deficit. Na Koa is trying to make this event break even so they are able to use the money raised through the year to support the players with their biggest needs.
So payment should be made out to Na Koa with Luau in notes section?
Hoooo! Emily 39% Chloe 34%……..Let’s Go Wahine!
Great article in the paper. Way to go coach Okimoto!!!
#67– where can we get the voting updates? Thanks!!! Go Emily!!
Click on the link a #34, can vote for today too.
Good Thanksgiving Eve morning!
‘Tis the season for over-indulgence.
Wishing everyone a super Thanksgiving.
As much as some complain, whine (over and over), and think things are bad we really do have a lot for which to be thankful.
With respect to our East Coast Tsai-kos, I am thankful I do not live there! Keep warm and dry!!!
Looking forward to that elusive victory this week…..in Laramie last week met a number of Warrior fans from Colorado and Wyoming….that was nice. Even though the outcome was bad….the game itself was good. The Wyoming QB was the best I have seen in this conference. Would compare performance to Johnny football or Jordan Lynch. It was obvious that the D was hindered by injuries (depth). This kid completed passes while being hit and chased and escaped numerous times. The game itself made me even more proud to be a Warrior fan and supporter….this thing will turn around…..from where I sit this team is short a couple of key element, once that gets plugged in the W’s will come…Go Warriors!!!!
NorthShoreFan – Yes, you can send a check to Na Koa and put Luau in the memo line. If there are any questions, give Joyce a call at the Na Koa office, 956-4513
74…key element =Chow. Once he is gone the wins will come 🙂
