TOP 1: Ventimilia draws a leadoff walk and moves to second on a bunt. He takes third on a wild pitch and scores on a sacrifice fly by Aliviado. Hawaii has scored first in every game of this series.

TOP 2: Doi drills a leadoff double and Cal Poly is going to make a pitching change already. Calomeni out and Michael Gomez in. UH doubles its lead as Ka’aua comes through with a single up the middle to score Doi.

BOTTOM 2: UH with its fifth error of the season as Kitaoka boots a ball at third to allow the leadoff man on, but that’s it as Arakawa gets three consecutive groundouts. Five groundouts in two innings for Arakawa.

BOTTOM 3: Arakawa gets into some trouble as Mathias hits a one-out single and Van Gansen is hit by a pitch. Mundell then draws a walk to load the bases. Arakawa gets a huge pop out by Zehner on an infield fly caught by the left-hander. A balk is called on Arakawa to allow the first Cal Poly run to score. Barbier behind 1-2 but then goes opposite field for a stand-up triple to bring in two runs and give the Mustangs the lead. Schuknecht singles on a 3-2 pitch to bring in Barbier to make it 4-2. Ellis bunts for a base hit and moves to second on a throwing error by Ka’aua with Schuknecht going to third and Arakawa is done. Andrew Jones in. Jones gets the ground out. Cal Poly has scored in four of 21 innings in the series but has 14 runs in those four innings.

Arakawa’s final line: 2 2/3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K.

TOP 4: Ramirez draws a one-out walk and Doi stays hot with a base hit. UH loads the bases with two outs when Ka’aua is hit by a pitch but Sheldon-Collins pops out to left.

BOTTOM 4: Jones walks Mathias and leaves with two outs and Mundell up. Cody Culp comes in and they intentionally walk Mundell to get to Zehner, who singles to left to drive in a run. Culp then serves up a three-run jack to Barbier, who has five RBIs and that decision to take out Jones blows up quickly. 8-2 Mustangs. Schuknecht gets a base hit and Culp is done. He faces four batters and gives up a walk, single, homer and single. Valencia in and he gets the strikeout to end it.

TOP 5: Ventimilia leads off with a double. Baldwin then doubles off the glove of the right fielder and Ventimilia had to hold to see if it was caught but is waved in anyway and is thrown out at the plate. Absolutely inexcusable how that happens, down six runs with nobody out. You simply can’t make the first out at the plate like that. At all. That’s on the third-base coach if he indeed waved the runner home. It costs UH a run as Sawelson hits a two-out RBI single to bring in Baldwin. Two guys have been thrown out at the plate. Ramirez with a base hit to put two on for Doi, who strikes out swinging. Only one run in what should have been a MUCH bigger inning.

BOTTOM 5: Cal Poly getting a chance to jack up its offensive numbers as the Mustangs pour it on. Mathias with an RBI triple and Zehner with an RBI single off Josh Pigg, who relieved Valencia. Pigg walks the bases full but gets a strikeout swinging on a 3-2 pitch.

TOP 6: Ka’aua and Sheldon-Collins continue to swing it as both single in the sixth. Baldwin delivers a two-out RBI single and Aliviado walks to load the bases with two outs for Sawelson. Erich Uelmen in to face Sawelson. Sawelson swings at the first pitch and hits a slow roller to Van Gansen at short, who tries to make the play but the throw pulls the first baseman off the bag. It’s ruled an infield hit. Zehner with a sliding catch to save a couple of runs and the inning is over.

BOTTOM 6: Hatch in for Pigg and Pluschkell, Drobny and Mathias string together three straight one-out singles as Cal Poly scores again.

Cal Poly finishes off the sweep of Hawaii, which has now been swept six times in conference play in the last two years. UH loses all three games despite outhitting the Mustangs 35-29. Hawaii scored the first two runs in all three games as well.

Quick write-up of the game.
