And linebacker Jahlani Tavai?
And how will the quarterback reps be split?
The answers will begin to be revealed on Friday, March 29, for the first of 15 spring practices for the Warriors.
The spring game will be played April 27.

I wasn’t able to post this comment on the last baseball blog, so I’ll give it go here.
Taking emotion out of the assessment, Trap has recorded 11 winning seasons (Overall Record) and 6 losing seasons since 2002. His conference record hasn’t been as good. While in the WAC, he compiled a 4-6-1 conference record. In the BWC he has compiled a 0-4-2 record. The BWC is a stronger baseball conference. Taking this into consideration, I would say Trap has shown improvement to compete in the Big West. And historically, Hawaii has struggled against Portland, while they have shown to be competitive against P5 schools from the Big10 and Pac12. That’s college baseball.
Will the practices again be scheduled for 6am?

You cannot use the fact that the BW is a better conference than the WAC, therefore Trapasso is “entitlted” to be mediocre. Its like say that you previously worked for a small company and did great but now you work for a more brand name company and face more difficult challenges, you should be given a pass if you don’t perform up to par because of what you did in the past.
If he cannot get the job done, then he need to step aside or be replaced.
Trapasso have been given chance after chance after chance and have failed to win consistently. He is just lucky that Hawaii fans are great baseball fans and love to attend games. The product on the field is mediocre at best and UH fans deserve better.
I love it that we have lots of competition at QB, receiver and offensive line-this will only make the unit better. My bigger concerns are a larger presence at our d end positions and the DBs. If we improve there we have a legitimate chance to be real good next year ….

It does seem like UH baseball is wallowing in mediocrity. I don’t know if Trap should be fired. But if going lose anyway, I’d rather see more local boys on the team.
2. I counted Mike with 5-5-1 for the WAC (winning – losing – .500 seasons) and 1-4-1 for the Big West.
For Les and Carl in their last 8 years, they were 1-6-1 in the WAC and 5-1-2 for the overall season.
Sorry I don’t see UH baseball going to another NCAA regional under the current coaching in the Big West. No adjustment and improvement in players or answers to beating Cal Fullerton and the other “power houses” of the BWC. Unfortunately the Big West is not a Power-5.

I felt the season was in disarray the moment Dylan Thomas was announced as a starting pitcher. That is one less thing to worry about, if you keep him as the closer. He was practically automatic.
Bring in the fences. The reputation of a way-too-friendly pitcher’s park scares away potential power hitters.
Thought Largusa was told to change his throwing motion. Screwed him up. Not 100% sure but heard he got unhappy and decided to leave. But UH’s problems had already started to decline. UH had Sadaharu Oh influences that seem to not work out too well plus a catcher coaching pitchers?? Didn’t sound right at the time like an Offensive lineman coaching the entire offense. Nuff said.

Local players aren’t 6-4 or 6-5. Way back when, the Rainbows used to be known for being so scrappy, gritty, and clutch in their hitting, defense, and pitching. Games were so exciting back then. You could see the wheels turning when trying to win the game with pitch by pitch strategy. Miss that brand of baseball (especially stolen bases). Different now. At least they’re (UH) tall. Who needs short, gritty and scrappy anyways. Not Trapasso.
Largusa played 3 years (1990 – 1992). His best year was his FR year but got hurt near the end of the year. Had a no hitter that year. I believe he got drafted in 1992 higher than Scott Karl, but never got past AA.
13-15. Thanks for the info, How about Rocky Ynclan ? 1987 & 1989. Was he used too much by the coaches ? That’s what i seem to recall ,so his arm got worn out.

Can we please let Warrior b-ball and volleyball season occur without reference to football? I mean, yeah, I can understand if the Warriors won the damn Hawaii Bowl they would warrant being talked about at this time.
In any case, let Warrior v-ball and b-ball happen. Get their due.

Some folks are just plain ingrates and what my Moms would call mahaoe—instead of being grateful and exhibiting a small sliver of being gracious, they complain about what they don’t have, all the while, they contribute very little…..
Waiting for practice schedule to come out. Hoping I won’t have to waste my time going at the scheduled time, only to find out the time was moved up a few hours.
Yep. Cant wait for Football. Going be “unreal”. They lost that game (Hawaii Bowl) but the way they lost gave us the fans a look at how the defense can operate this coming season (first half vs La Tech) and it also put some focus on the need to improve the O-line and secondary, which really has been addressed. Cannot wait for Spring.
As for the Baseball comments those carried over from previous day. People are passionate so that’s good to see. Post comments on Anything UH Athletics related everybody. I love the passion here (even the back and forth with Chicken Grease) its so good. Things are turning around for UH Athletics (albeit slow but gradual) you can see it. Getting over the “hump” soon in all sports I think. In some ways thanks to forums like this (not solely Warrior Beat but it is a “quality” forum) where the Department can get direct feedback and chart their action toward fan generated profitability. Thank You Everybody. Post when you have time about any sport (Cappie seems to follows all of them).
Maybe some have not noticed that ST is currently the beat writer for UH basketball and baseball. Football spring practice is starting soon too. I wonder where ST will sleep in the lower campus…I hope he has found a suitable secret spot by now. 😉
But he DOES want us to comment on it and I best believe he appreciates myriad of opinion to which he can comment on also.
