Former hoops star pursues football opportunity

Four years and one surgery ago, Jacob McEnroe was one of the top basketball players in the state. As a Farrington senior, he led the Governors to the championship game of the 2014 Division I state championship game. He was named to the all-tournament team.

But McEnroe, who appeared headed to Baylor as a basketball/football player, had dual setbacks: 1) he did not meet the NCAA requirements to play as a freshman, and 2) he suffered a torn patella. McEnroe rehabbed the injury, then attended Scottsdale Community College and then Fullerton College. Today, as a UH student, he competed in the Warriors’ walk-on tryout for football players.

“I really wanted to stay on this rock,” said McEnroe, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound defensive back. “I’m a UH fan.”

McEnroe said he was a regular during the Colt Brennan-led years.

“I was always at the top in the nose-bleed seats watching their games,” McEnroe said following the tryouts. “And now I’m here.”

Glad he came back to help UH out. At 6’2” he’ll probably be the tallest corner UH ever had. J. Mac has speed and hops so they could try him out at Safety too. The more local boys that stay home, the more I want to attend UH games. πŸ€™πŸ½
