Expect traffic delays around campus (University-Dole areas) due to the conflict with an upper campus event on the Bachman Hall front lawn that starts at 5 p.m.
Maybe not as much of an issue as DOT deciding to do road work Saturday from 8 a.m.-130 p.m. on Kalanianaole heading into Waimanalo. it get backs up to Keolu Drive on weekends even without it going down to one lane.

#1 Funny, exact same thing happen to me. Am sorry to see comments degrade so badly and that the frustration is imploding into nastiness. Volleyball is organic and ever changing. I am confident that Dave and the team are working hard and doing their best. Stuffs happen in volleyball – the 3-0 lost by #3 Stanford to unranked NC, shows that even with the #1 Recruiting Class 3 yrs ago, the unthinkable can occur. Shall we join the calls to fire John Dunning and Denise Corlett and begin an inquisition to determine which Cardinal players should burn. Let’s be real – and lighten up. Dave knows what he is doing. Wishing the girls the best for tonight.
For next season or at least before he retires, it would be awesome to have UCLA, Pepperdine, and San Diego State in the same preseason tournament.

Not really. On the other hand, some have called for Dave’s head each and every year. So, how very terribly embarrassing is it for them to be consistently wrong for the last 41 years. Sad, isn’t it?
Here’s some food for thought, feel free to comment:
Dave Shoji is responsible for 1 AIAW and 3 NCAA national championships. He is also responsible for the failure to win a championship during the past 27 years.
Kimo you need to accomplish something in life other than taking cheap shots at people who have. Why should anyone listen to your rants. To believe that you know better, now that’s embarrassing.
Since the advent of the BCS and now the power 5 schools no non bcs or power 5 school has made the final four except for LBSU and Hawaii. Pick a coach, any coach and put them at a non power 5 school and see if they will do any better. To ignore the discrepancy in funding coming mainly from television contracts is to simply be ignorant. Win or lose a power 5 school sees a 20 -30 million dollar check every year of the contract. Hawaii gets something like 2 million. LBSU much less. The facility wars are ridiculous. My two sons went to schools on the mainland to find their majors and the new buildings look like something you would see at vacation resorts. So to question what has been accomplished without acknowledging the advantages of it’s competitors is just not a fair question.
Can we get some production from Greeley? Can’t put it away, doesn’t do much on D, and don’t know why she plays back row, and hasn’t done nothing on that serve??? Kahakai…needs to be challenged. Not quick enough and is far from many balls that are diggable. Florida is going to sweep.
Not going even start with Tai and Nicki…let alone our predictable setter and slow tempo offense…Robyn take over…
#6 So true. The movement of the money and the best players to the Power 5 schools will continue to make it difficult for mid-majors to compete. I’m guessing the only currently ranked non-Power 5 are HI, Colorado State, and BYU.
Other misc. facts include 9 NCAA Final Four appearances, 27 NCAA Regional appearances, and 32 NCAA Tournament appearances, missing the big dance only once. Finished in the Top 10 in 23 of the 28 final AVCA polls, and ranked in the top five 15 times.
“So much depth!” The media — from the Star-Advertiser to the live UH broadcasts — cannot go a day without exclaiming that there’s “so much depth” on the Rainbow Wahine team.
Yet with all that depth, Coach could not find a single player from that depth to replace anyone from his original starting lineup? So much for “so much depth!”
Aside: Personally I thought that the Bruins outclassed Na Wahine because Sealy&Company outcoached his old boss. Let’s see if Coach has anything left in his arsenal tonight.
Sheesh such a tough crowd. He has over 1,100 career victories, second on the all time D1 victories list, and has kept UH as the only non-major conference school consistently in the rankings and in the tournament over the span of his career and yet according to fans on here, they think he should be on the hot seat. Sure BYU has lately had really good years, but they were off the map for a while too. He may not have had as much success lately as he has had before, but you can certainly thank the BCS and college football for that.
No wholesale changes, but coach did make small changes. Tai Manu-Olevao is back taking a full rotation (no jump serves) replacing Granato in the back row. I was just surprised Huff did not get into the match at all. But it appears that Mitchem will slowly replace Maglio in the middle and execute the slide. And we’re seeing a little more of Baby G.
8. turfwar …. BYU, non-power 5 school in the WCC, made the Finals last year vs. Penn St. I see Heather Olmstead is taking over as head coach this year.
This is what happens when you have a top ten team for decades. The standard of expectations are so high. I like Shoji, last of the great coaches Hawaii has.
Ed, #14, I agree. We have high expectations but we are also a college team, not a professional VB team. I hope the girls do not read these comments or come here as this is what will cause divisiveness on the team. My hope is that they are all friends as they seem, but someone here mentioned that girls in previous teams had trouble. I will go through the wind, storm, lightening,and thunder tonight to cheer my Rainbow wahine. Win or lose I support them. I know they are trying their best.

Also, here’s another spin. Recall when Nikki Taylor signed with U of H, there were questions on her ability, look at her now? Recall, Huff, a work in progress whose goal was to test her potential and see how far she could grow playing VB, look at her now? Recall, Maglio – who, from Canada – what, look at her now?
On the upside, witnessed improvement on balls being served higher to Magill and what a result. Witnessed a few hard hit balls being whacked by Maglio that I did not see last year. Witnessed more step up services than in previous games.
Although, progress and improvement maybe slow, it’s there and coming.
Can you even imagine what Coach is going through to assure a FAIR process on deciding who starts? Also, we are not privy to WHAT he is saying to his players.
At the end of the day, most of his players believe in him and the program, as evidenced by verbal commitments given early and players staying true to their commitment as evidenced by Mitchem. What makes him great is his unwavering commitment to get the most out of his players, in spite public clamor to make a ‘change’ just because…why??? in most cases, the Women WIN.
So when asked how U of H is going to perform against Florida, easy answer… “THEY GOING WIN.”

Good observation Tako. No one knows what is happening in practices, the player’s school work load, personal issues going on with the player’s life, player’s attitude and understanding of their roles on the team. Easy to sit there in your living room and think that you know better than the coaches. For every person out there that thinks that they know better, I would bet you that none would succeed. A good coach should be oblivious to fan chatter.
#5/#6 There are ‘fair’ questions buried under all that hate; questions Manoa must be asked when Shoji eventually retires: is there any active coach who gets as much or more from a comparable budget? Is there any coach, past or future, who could match/better Shoji’s success in gym and classroom, on or off court, with such a budget? And we’re not just talking about wins/loses, postseason appearances.
Example. Florida, tonite’s opponent, is a public university. According to one source [1], the Gators spend $2.25m on WVB, with an avg expense of $35,755 per player per season. Hawaii? According to the same source, Manoa spent $1.26m on WVB, with an avg expense of $7,739 per player per season.
W% Shoji: 86% Florida: 82%
Not saying there aren’t public universities with similar budgets touting comparable success. There are. Including UCLA.
However, no one living in the real world could dismiss the costs of recruiting for Hawaii v . any school in the lower 48, especially schools like UCLA with so much nationally ranked talent in their own backyard (hint: recruiting expenses are separate/apart from operating expenses).

25. don’t see comments as apologists. the facts are Hawaii has continued to succeed in spite of all the obstacles they face. true that they haven’t won the championship in a while but the way the tournament is stacked with the Power 5 schools it is hard for the non-P5 to get to the final four when it’s a one bid conference. and conferences like the Pac-12 get 10 in. odds are in their favor. Some of Hawaii’s best teams didn’t get out of the regional because of how stacked it was. even SC’s Haley discussed how unfair it was one tournament. Said “Take Back NCAA” during the selection show. has not been been asked back since.

did tai simply switch from spin serving to standing float? or did she give up her jump serving entirely. i hope its not the latter because that would be a bummer! im sure tai loves aggression and her aggression makes the game more better including that one time vs ucla where she ‘with no finesse there’ penetrated the block with her high velocity gun. it be nice if tai still does jump serving but switching to standing deep float if necessary. especially when tired and/or need for accuracy, standing floats are simple and accurate with quick recovery. standing deep floats are easier imo just rack and serve because all you need to do is hit the ball straight ahead and as hard as you can since you are at a range.

Stanford is a bit of a mess right now. I think they are more around 12-18 range than top 10.
I hope the wahine come out ready to play, this is a must win if they want a chance to host first/second rounds in the NCAA tournament.
