Can’t help but empathize with NAU’s loss of their top player. Reminds me of last post-season.

12. The Pre-Rally Scoring record for team aces in a 3 set match is 13. In a five set match, 16 against Stanford. In the Rally Scoring era, the 3 set record was 11, which tonite’s team exceeded with 13. Record for a 5-set match is also 13. Just making sure we are comparing apples to apples.

13 kine of aces with only 5 service errors and did i see mckenna granato jump serve instead of jump float?? – YES!
thats how i would want hawai’i to serve, if you are going to jump to serve you might as well jump topspin serve. jump floats are just timid and high risk, low if not almost no reward actually. and of course if you cant jump serve, then obviously just stand and serve.

i dunno, how do you rate service aces to errors?
A jump serve is only good if it has major pace and also if it server can hit locations and control it. Almost all coaches will say they’d take a consistent jump float over an average jump serve because floats can really throw off passers when its flat and has movement versus a jump that ends up becoming a lollipop and easy to pass.
I last coached at the prep/HS ranks around Kahakai and Granato’s years and they always *could* jump serve. Kahakai especially is QUITE the hitter to be honest. So I did always wonder why she never did. She and Kahakai are good examples of a jump server that has pace and control.
Ross on the other hand jumps, but it’s pretty slow, soft and plops right into the passer’s platform. She was a bit better tonight, but her jump serve in general isn’t very impressive. Granato looked good tho.
Ross has found a home in the back roll. Good passer, can hit out of the back some. My favorite wahine Kalei Greeley seem reluctant to lay it out for balls due to her injuries.
Any idea which alumnae playing tomorrow?
18. i think the lack of savannah and mckenna granato jump serving was because of other caused by shoji.
savannah did attempt a jump serve her freshman year versus (i think/forgot) san diego state or new mexico but ended up in the net and never jump served again until now. either she lost confidence there in her first collegiate jump serve or because of other caused by shoji. frankly i think dave severely limited his ‘prolific outside hitter from the farrington governors – go governor!’
i saw mckenna granato most efficient in her jump serves during punahou especially when she won state championship and was high school under armor all american. it was actually disappointing when she did not jump serve her freshman (and) sophomore year and am only starting a bit late into her junior year.
as for jump floats or any floats, couldnt you just hit it over standing without having to jump? jumping to do a float is high risk, no reward. for a big girl it looks feeble, for a small girl it looks timid and both are prone to hit into the net. a jump serve meanwhile just needs a higher toss and then you can muscle it however you want.
missed the game on segment, was there any talk about jump serving or serving tough by any chance including that resulted in more a bakers dozen aces tonight besides robyn mentioning it after the match?

N Arizona was 3rd in Div I Aces per Set last season with 1.92. UH was 59th with 1.44.
What kind of serve do Guinasso, Anderson and Okino have ? They are kind of effective.

This is my main observation.
Women volleyball fans appear more disinterested with a victory against a subpar opponent than a men’s basketball crowd witnessing a Rainbow Warriors loss.
I can relate to this team.
No game seems like a foregone conclusion at the outset, although I expect Hawaii to sweep tomorrow night.
I never go into a men’s basketball game with the overwhelming certainty that they’re going to win. I am still trying to forget the time Bob Nash’s squad got blown out by UC-Davis in a BracketBuster game.
This is the first year that I have season tickets for women’s volleyball.
I am rooting like heck for Robyn Ah Mow to succeed. I am over my initial disappointment that they went with another women’s sports coach with no Division I experience as the top person.
And if ESPN doesn’t get behind Jemele Hill, I’m going to experience the Wyoming game via radio.
How many showed up to SSC last night? I was not there.
2,500 fans was my calculated guess of fan base. Height? Yep, it looks like I’m six-two. Sure.
24. guinasso and andersons serve? acceptable. baby g as na wahine gunner and claremarie pretty steady
but okinos? i saw and heard the crowd cringe as is she looks easily prone to foot fault and/or hitting the net.
30. Last night, Okino did not get too close to the baseline as she was more in back of the line when she hit her serve and her serves went over the net good.

NAU needs a new libero. It was pretty embarrassing. If Noreen didn’t serve a floater it may have never ended.
After last night, UH is about No. 160 in Aces per Set, with 1.28.
NAU looked like a HS squad last night.
Hawaii really has to be looking for some terminators for next season. Try overseas like Japan, China, they have some good talent over there. Also with AL ties to Europe, gotta go gettum.
