Warrior Beat: Lane concerns, depth chart released

The Warriors expressed concern as Hurricane Lane approaches the island chain.

“I’m praying,” said slotback Dakota Torres, a Waianae resident. “I’m hoping it passes us by or miraculously dissipates before it gets here. But, still, it’s pretty nerve-wracking.”

The Warriors are scheduled to depart tomorrow on a direct flight to Denver in advance of Saturday’s game against Colorado State.

“I worry about people here,” head coach Nick Rolovich said. “Hey, we’ve got enough warriors on the island. They’ll keep it safe.”

The Mountain West permits each member to travel with up to 70 players. The Warriors will not use all the allotted travel spots. Rolovich said there is a plan in place for the players who will remain in Hawaii this week.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like the latest track of the storm right now. Not sure if my area will even have power to watch the game now… 🤷🏽‍♂️ But go Bows!! Hope they can start the season off with a W!

game may go on on 8/25/18, but no can see if all electricity is down on Oahu/Kauai due to strong winds

just too many open areas where flying debris can damage lines and will take weeks to repair

our valley is bad cause only one road, entry/exist, with many tall trees leaning over the road — last time a tree fell, it took over 7 hours to reopen road and fix that single electrical line

if wind are in the 73 mph range, many roofs gone/many fallen trees/many damaged electrical lines — perhaps 2 or 3 weeks or more before electricity restore? if so, much spoiled ice box/freezer food.

yet, it’s a beautiful day on Oahu – broken clouds, sunny skies, gentle breeze

anyone got extra generator I can borrow? rent??

    Howzit Tsaikos!
    Safe travels to the Warriors.
Safe prayers for all of us.
BC mentioned that there were some defensive players not here. Was going to ask Rolo tonight on call the coach.

  9. Hilo-Warrior August 21, 2018 1:43 pm

    Aloha from San Antonio Tsaikos,

Been a while since I posted last. But I have been doing my best to keep up.

First off my prayers to all the warriors and fans in Hawaii. Stay safe everyone. We went through Harvey almost an exact year ago. Safety first guys.

Second. Dang I’m excited with what I saw on the depth chart. offensively the oline makes me excited. Size and agile big men. Ursua and Bird at slot. Could we possibly see a new 2.0 bess and grice-mullen tandem being created.

Defensively. Okeke at safety excites me. I see him bringing the big hits like Leonard Peter’s used. Just play. I like our interior linemen. And I wanna see what coach dials up with the stunts and twist with the rest of our defense. I also think Nickel is the best spot for Manu.

    Only a few days away.

    Go Warriors!!!

  10. Boolakanaka August 21, 2018 2:13 pm

Hmmmn, surprised at Kumoku Noa not making the two-deep? Is it possible that we are that deep at receiver,?

  11. Houston Eagle August 21, 2018 2:51 pm

    Dear UH,

I have kept up with UH(not just the one here in town) for many years. This storm looks quite serious, so is the team leaving before it hits? If they aren’t using all of their spots on the plane, you would think that more players could go if for no other reason going to a safer area. Harvey was terrible, and I hope everyone stays safe.

  12. clyde August 21, 2018 3:56 pm

Also, no Jeremiah Pritchard in the two-deeps? Is it because they have a nickel/rover instead of a third linebacker in the base defense? Just wondering aloud ….

  13. Sangamon Keith August 21, 2018 5:19 pm

#13 Clyde, I think we will see different depth charts based on opponent. For example, I think Navy and Army run so much the we’ll see a 4-3 depth chart instead of a 4-2-5.

  14. Ipu Man August 21, 2018 5:22 pm

My niece in Colorado said hail falling…

  15. clyde August 21, 2018 5:54 pm

#Sangamon Keith. Thanks, I’m sure you’re right. I was just a bit surprised that they released a starting defense in a 4-2-5 for CSU. That said, situations will dictate the defense’s alignment, whether it’s during a game or game by game.

    Go WARRIORS. 808 all day.

  18. kalua pig August 21, 2018 7:19 pm

last year when cole mcdonald came into the game, everybody including the other team knew he was going to run.i hope moose doesn’t get put in the game for one play to throw a bomb.

  19. H-Man August 21, 2018 7:44 pm

If we escape this hurricane’s wrath; hoping electricity still on; can’t wait to watch the game; hope everyone comes through the storm safe. BTW #11, team leaving tomorrow before the storm.

Mr. Tsai, time for the pesticide.

  21. Petey808 August 21, 2018 10:27 pm

    Where’s J Pritchard? And K Noa?

  22. suckkabooya August 22, 2018 12:18 am

Lots of surprises on the two deep. I don’t know what to make of some of the omissions but I think we will see a lot of them (the omitted productive veterans) in specific packages at some point of the game. Start off with your base packages and everybody else be ready to contribute. Everybody! It’s time. Let’s go Warriors! We can do it. Terrific

  23. cappie the dog August 22, 2018 4:27 am

There are probably staffers in the WH who are unaware that Hawaii is a state.

There used to be a preschool called Helping Hand across from Times Kahala.

I had a friend who was a refugee from Vietnam.

I’ll be thinking of him when Honolulu, formerly known as the Kaimuki Little League, takes on Staten Island today.

I really hope Guy Hagi is wrong.

That one is for you Jim Leahey.

  24. boolakanaka August 22, 2018 5:20 am

Hey, best of luck to our little league team today!! I would be remissed not to mention the original OG little league team all-star team was from Aiea, albeit senior little league, in which I was a part of, circa 1976, we were the first US team to beat Taiwan but eventually lost a double header to that same Taiwan team, and came up as the runner ups. Imua Aiea!

  25. Old School Dave August 22, 2018 6:26 am

Best of luck to the Warriors vs CSU. Shades of 1992, again? Safe travels! Good that UH is flying directly to Denver instead of saving some $$$ by stopping over in LAX (like the previous regime).

Hope that UH officials take good notes and many pics of CSU’s stadium. Also believe that they can learn a lot from USU’s stadium’s renovations, too.

Hope the electricity holds out on Saturday, enough to watch the game!

#11 – yeah it’s easy to spend someone else’s money.

  28. islandman August 22, 2018 9:39 am

UH will not be running a pure Run N Shoot . They will also use the RPO as you know, so Cole is a good pick for the starter, per Tsai.

  29. burro sabio August 22, 2018 9:49 am

For me, the big surprises in the 2-deep are Pumba Williams and Kai Kaneshiro. The interesting aspects are some of the names not listed.

best location for an on-campus stadium is partially on lower campus, over H1, and part into Varsity Circle — raise bottom level to prevent any flooding — lowest level can be receiving area for food, merchandise, emergency vehicles including police, entire Varsity Circle area up to King Street for a high rise parking structure which may or may not abut to the stadium with multiple walk ways at all levels, etc.

can be 35,000 to 42,000 seats similar to CSU and like CSU new stadium make it use able 100% of the time including a food court open to the public with private business establishments, fast food outlets, etc. — direct entry/exit to H-1 fwy in both directions — parking lot open to students and public — allow UH ROTC office/classroom space — build up restrooms and shower space

rather than hear about why it would not work– offer suggestions on how to make it workable!

  32. NotNasti August 22, 2018 1:55 pm

A-House: Your proposal (on campus stadium) is a one that has the best chance for success. I would like to see condemnation and campus extended all the way down to King street.
