Warrior Beat: Naotala visits Warriors

Going into Saturday, Hawaii and Colorado State have played 24 times, with CSU winning 15. / Photo by Stephen Tsai

FORT COLLINS >> In a special and inspiring visit, Kalepo Naotala met with the Warriors at the hotel.

Naotala was a freshman defensive tackle when he suffered a spinal injury during an accident off Waikiki in July 2017. Following the accident, he was transferred to Craig Hospital, a rehabilitation facility in Colorado that specializes in spinal-cord injuries. After that, he returned to his home in Virginia. He is in Colorado this weekend for follow-up treatment.

“I’m happy to see Kalepo and his family,” head coach Nick Rolovich said. “I’m glad the timing worked out. He’s going to be able to watch his brothers on the field this Saturday.”

The Warriors open the 2018 season against Colorado State tomorrow at Canvas Stadium. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. Hawaii time.

very possible for upset. remember revenge game from last year. depends how the coaches have the team prepared especially the big “O”. So far, myself and others have no confidence until proven otherwise. We’ll see!!

Thanks to the traveling Warriors for all your concern for our safety in facing Hurricane Lane. Lane is now a tropical storm. I saw on the 6pm news that Waikiki Beach was really crowded with beach goers. We (on Oahu) escaped another one ! Now focus on beating the Rams!!!

The year Hurricane Iwa hit Hawaii UH beat Colorado St. in Fort Collins 23-13. The hurricane would hit the islands the following week. The year Hurricane Iniki hit Hawaii (Kauai mostly) UH beat the Rams 23-14 en route to an 11-2 season and a Holiday bowl victory. That was the last time UH beat Colorado St. The last four games all went 69 points (combined) and over (mostly Colorado St’s points) so we might see lots of offense tomorrow. Good luck to Coach Rolovich (and Staff) and to the beginning of this new era. Go Warriors!!
