Going back to Paniolo Country

Sure, it might not be the original Paniolo Trophy. But so what? Nobody’s complaining about Arnel Pineda singing Journey songs.

“I think it’s a beautiful trophy,” head coach Nick Rolovich said of the prize for the winner of the UH-Wyoming game. “I’m excited to get an opportunity to defend the ownership of it.”

The trophy rests in the display case at the foyer of the UH locker room. “Where it should be,” Rolovich said.

But this Wednesday it will be packed for the trip to Wyoming, where the Warriors will train in advance of Saturday’s game against the Cowboys.

“We’ve got to (bring it),” Rolovich said. “It’s part of the rules.”

Rolovich has never had the chance to compete for the trophy. Wyoming seceded from the WAC in 1999, a year before Rolovich arrived in Manoa as a quarterback. The Warriors were in the WAC and the Cowboys in the Mountain West when Rolovich was UH’s offensive coordinator for four years through 2011. Last season, Rolovich’s first as UH head coach, Wyoming was not part of UH’s inter-division rotation.

    from yesterday … Wyoming QB tweaks ankle in loss to Oregon;
could have returned to game per coach.

scouts from 16 NFL teams were there.

The bottom line: The last two seasons against Nebraska, Iowa and Oregon, Allen was 48-for-96 for 427 yards, with two TD passes and *** eight *** interceptions.

    Our D has rough him up. he’s 6-5, 230.

Slow day… time to prove I’m not a robot again. 🙁

So opening up as 7 point dogs. This game clearly rests on the shoulders of the defense and the offensive line. After listening to Coach Bohls pressed post game, look for them to use a core series of plays that will undoubtedly utilize screens draws and a gimmick or two. Allen might be limited in terms of mobility with an ankle but it does not look serious. They are gonna blitz the middle and come off the edge. Does look like they are susceptible to the read option. So we will see-hey Stephen I hope to chat with you over the weekend. I’ll be there Friday afternoon thru Sat hope to see you-

What’s the coldest weather Hawaii has played in in recent years? I heard the weather will be in the 30s with possible rain and likely wind.

  8. islandman September 18, 2017 8:24 am

Commentators said the temperature could be 38 degrees at Laramie. And could be colder with the wind chill factor.

Laramie is 7,165 feet above sea level; rain in the forecast–better get our running game juiced up with maybe more option type running attacks?

Last call: Join 500 UH fans in Vegas on Nov 4 sitting at the 50 yd line right behind our Warrior bench, 10-20 rows up–this is the ultimate road game experience–so close that you can almost touch them! Text me: 415-324-0585.

Will it rain at that altitude or will the rain be confined below the stadium grounds?

  12. Ipu Man September 18, 2017 11:17 am

Sounds like Rolo better pack some hot chocolate for his hot players.

  13. Ipu Man September 18, 2017 11:18 am

If we are in white uni’s, it would be nice if it snowed…hard.

  14. Ipu Man September 18, 2017 11:21 am

I like the idea of having the UH team practice on the summits of
the other islands. Might be a good promotional package for Hawaiian Air 🙂
