From UH
The American Volleyball Coaches Association unveiled the inaugural class of AVCA Top Flight Award winners with all five University of Hawai’i pairs earning recognition. This new awards program is designed to recognize excellence in beach volleyball from all over the country and across all flights.

The AVCA Top Flight award was conceived to reward hard work and consistent play regardless of roster position. In order for a pair to be eligible for the award, two athletes must compete in at least 15 matches together and at a specific flight number. Should that pair win at least 75 percent of their matches – regardless of the overall result of the dual – they achieve “Top Flight” status.

The duo of Morgan Martin and Lea Monkhouse are a nation-best 19-0 at the No. 2 flight. Meanwhile UH’s four other pairs at the No. 1 (Emily Maglio/Ka’iwi Schucht), No. 3 (Carly Kan/Laurel Weaver), No. 4 (Ari Homayun/Amy Ozee) and No. 5 (Paige Dreeuws/Hannah Zalopany), all rank in the top five in win percentage at their respective flights.

UH (35-3) is currently in Gulf Shores, Ala., getting ready for the 2018 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship. The No. 3 seed SandBows open up against No. 6 seed South Carolina (24-7) on Friday at 7:00 a.m. HT in a match televised on ESPNU and streamed on ESPN3.

    Congrats SandBows!

Why is the Ekerd team (18-0) listed infirst place at the #1 flight over Maglio and Schucht (25-1). It is weird as they played div. 2 and colleges and a few div. 1 teams but are on the same list.

UH Wahine Athlete if the Year – Emily Maglio (Wvb and Bvb) and Lea Monkhouse Rookie of the Year (BVB).

There will be a MPSF or Big West champion this year. No MIVA, NO EIVA, NO conference Carolinas, on the list of past champions, since 1970.

Again, good news for MPSF, & Big West, yes!

above is link to live stats
Long Beach State i3-1 over Ohio State
, UCLA up 2-1 on BYU

    UCLA over BYU 3-1.

I hope LBSU wins out. Can’t let UCLA win after their selection committee plant conspired with Ohio State’s to dodge playing UH in the tourney.

put the scores up on previous thread.
    Long Beach State-Hawaii on Saturday
The only team to beat both of them? Hawaii

    6. there is no proof that happened. but there is an appearance of impropriety.

    4. Teams from both the MIVA and the EIVA have won men’s volleyball titles. MIVA: Ohio State, Loyola, Lewis. EIVA: Penn State.

    Any truth to Mautautia leaving?

  11. T103 May 3, 2018 8:25 pm

wait what? @Setaone?! Don’t break my heart, where did u hear that from, what rumor mill u been hearing that from?! I ran into Joe today, he said they were still pretty mad about it all. He just came back from the AA awards ceremony, he said that the tournament selection committee was there, gave a speech and dug out right after, didn’t even bother staying. I told him he should have say down right next to all 3 of them and introduced himself to them and then introduce the 2 UH players who were on the 1st team and then thank them for setting him up w the two UCI players who were on the 2nd team with him, to keep him company, seeing how UCI was chosen with NONE of their players making the 1st team, BUT I DIGRESS. He mentioned Tui was and is still pretty pissed about it all. He said he’s had some time to allow pass. I do hope this gives them fuel for next season. So it’s beach & UCLA sat for title on Saturday? Man we beat both those teams this year…. nuff, I gotta stop already! Go warriors!

Long Beach State vs. UCLA, 5th Saturday. At 1:00 p.m. HST. National title men’s volleyball. I’ll check again. Time. 90% sure.

  14. KOH I NOR May 3, 2018 11:27 pm

Kyle Ensing. Super game vs. Ohio State. Remember, UCI was the front runner and champion 2012, 2013. UCI should get credit for making Long Beach State a better team. Exciting finish. And that was in the 1980 to 1995 time period Cindy was talking about or to the fans. See the list of past champions. Ex. 1974, UC San Diego Tritons champions.

    10. Yes, truth.

Sad to see him go. It was awesome to have one of the state’s top talent choosing (and sticking with his original commitment to) Hawaii. Playing time between him and Brett was a toss up. Coach Wade felt Brett was the better guy, Austin was the odd man out. “It aint depth unless you use it”….and if you don’t, you lose it.

  16. T103 May 4, 2018 5:26 am

wait can someone confirm or point to a story saying he leaving? Where he going?
