Scott Smith, a defensive end from Saint Louis School, received a limited release from his California football scholarship, according to his father, George Smith. Smith may have contact with Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon. It is a curious move because those three schools and California are members of the Pac-10 Conference. SALT LAKE CITY — UH linebacker Solomon Elimimian has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference’s Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. He was chosen in a polling of 45 media members who cover the WAC. Last year, Elimimian led the Warriors with 141 tackles. Doris Sullivan is the first to confirm that Punahou School’s Kimo Makaula has accepted a football scholarship from UH.
