Hey gang..break time almost over and have to go to a meeting soon. Can anyone post this question for me to Adam Leonard. FT and I were sort of talking about it.

“How are the boys prepping for the mental toughness needed to play in a place like the Swamp? I know it will be overwhelming, like playing at Bryant Denny (sp) Stadium or Notre Dame Stadium.”

  3. Kazz July 21, 2008 12:09 pm

    Aloha Adam,

Hope this finds you and the rest of the team well.

My question is, what do perceive to be the biggest challenge this year in terms of conference opponents? Do you anticipate Fresno State or Boise State on the road or Nevada or LaTech at home being the biggest threats to defending the WAC title?

    Mahalo,
    Kevin

    Hello to Laua’eGouveiaPukalaniMaui in Nebraska!

Another thing Mr. Leonard…….Mahalo again for deciding to play for UH, you will always be remembered as one of the great LB’s to play for UH.

Adam thank you for returning for your senior season and for being the student athlete that all Warrior fans can be proud of. My question is do you think the Warriors defense has the speed to match up with the spread offense of the Gators? Thanks again for all of your efforts here in Hawaii and best of luck for the upcoming season.

As far as the quarterbacks, they are coming along. The wide receivers are just getting the gist of the scheme or the route running. The recruit I’m most impressed with is DB Jeramy Bryant because he is very talented and fast. He’s been making great breaks on the ball. I hope we can get Manti.

Hi Adam! Met your parents in NOLA (stayed in the same hotel). Now going to cheer for you at the Swamp.
I have heard that the team’s magic comes from Tebow (much like opponents said last year’s team was dependent on our QB). What is your take on how we are going to neutralize the Gators?

  15. Adam Leonard July 21, 2008 12:19 pm

“How are the boys prepping for the mental toughness needed to play in a place like the Swamp? I know it will be overwhelming, like playing at Bryant Denny (sp) Stadium or Notre Dame Stadium.”

The boys are really pushing themselves in conditioning. Unlike years past, coach Mack is making sure we do conditioning every day of our training camp.

Boise State and Fresno State are always two of the best teams in the conference but we can’t look past anybody and every game is going to be tough. The game I’m looking forward to the most, or the game I think will be the most heated, is Nevada because they felt they should have beaten us.

All I gotta say bruddah Adam is thanks for bringing the Gatorade to practice. Nah, but good luck this season and lets show the Gators what a Top 25 defense is all about! Also, can you do me a favor and put that uh Tebow guy on his arse a few times, would greatly appreciate it! Oh and my question for you would be… So how does it feel knowing that you and the rest of our Top 25 Defense will keep Florida from scoring period?

Good luck to you this season, stay healthy, and please pound Tebow so hard when you’re in FL, so your LoCal Tsai-ko Family can feel it in San Diego, mahalos bruddah Adam!

I think the JC guys have an uphill battle because of inexperience. But they are looking pretty good in unsupervised workouts. I’ll just hold my judgment until the first week of practice on who the starting QB should be.

We just have to play with confidence. I think a lot of the players were overwhelmed at first when we stepped on the field against Georgia. We know we belong at that stage now and we just have to have that mentality throughout the game.

I feel we do, especially with the corners we have. Even against Georgia I didn’t feel that they had to much speed for us, i just think some of us was not prepared mentally for that big of a stage.

Yo sole adam, i’m truly greatful for what you have meant to the hawaii football program. The linebacker core is strong and it seems the starters are all but set, what is your take on the defensive backs, who will impress and contribute/start?

    Adam,

Congratulations on an awesome offseason, you’re looking more and more like the beast we all knew you would be… My question is, aside from yourself and Sol, who do you think is making the biggest impact in terms of linebackers? What do you have to say about Blaze Soares, some think (myself included) that he’s like a Bill Romanowski type of player, who plays with that same intensity… Do you agree? Thanks for your response IMUA WARRIORS!!!

I try to get out there as much as I can and appreciate what you do for the other guys out there. Giving them pointers on assignments, what to look for, and most importantly, bringing out the water. To me, that is the most impressive. Most Seniors would make the “rookies” bring out the water, but you load it into your backseat, the cart hanging out of your trunk and push it up the grass hill to the field. It is leaders like you that I hope the young guys learn from.

For someone like me who doesn’t understand how rough football can be…. that statement “I love to hit a guy and hear him moan!” sounds kind of sore.

gigi – thanks for posting my question to Mr. Leonard.

wena – it can hurt when you get hit, especially when you get fully clocked. But if your adrenaline and intensity is high, you usually don’t feel it until the next day. The scariest thing for me was once, I was so focused on the QB running with the ball, I kept tracking him along the line and was running full speed straight for him. I didn’t notice the fullback coming for me at full speed as well and I was taken out, needless to say. I got the wind knocked out of me and that was freaky as it was the first time that that happened and, seeing that it feels like you can’t breathe when that happens, I was pretty scared.

Players generally look out for each other, even their opponents. If they hit someone, it usually isn’t personal and, in my opinion, no player really goes out to hurt another player (although Jack Tatum may be a different story). If that is their sole purpose, they shouldn’t play the game.

eh j you one tsai kid?

Let’s see. I’m one middle kid, first name starts with letter “J”, grew up on the windward side. But no, lucky for those two, I’m not the product of their genetic mix.

  86. Wena July 21, 2008 3:13 pm

ok, I have to go now. Will check back later.
Hi J. J is a long time friend. I used to work for her dad in a dentist office, and when J was little, I used to take her around. I still see her once in a while when she visits Hawaii.

    Oh James,
You still remember getting hit? OWWWWWW

  87. J July 21, 2008 3:21 pm

I remember the time I almost knocked out a defensive player while playing touch football. My younger sister was playing quarterback and I was in the backfield blocking. Someone tried to get run through my block to tag the QB. I “touched” her first.

  88. J July 21, 2008 3:22 pm

*FYI: The defensive player wasn’t Wena…

Article about the football players from Kauai High that attended UH’s camp.

Attendance at the University of Hawaii football camps have doubled in only one year.

But it’s not just the university that benefits from holding these camps, it’s also the kids.

About 14 players from Kauai High School came to Oahu this week to participate in the University of Hawaii football skills camp.

“Kauai, we only have three teams so it’s not very many, so it’s not very many teams to get experience with, so it’s good experience for us,” said Trey Shimabukuro, Kauai High School quarterback.

This is only the second time UH has hosted a camp, but for teams like the Kauai red raiders, it’s a big deal for the players to have a camp so close.

“This opportunity is a big one, just to show what I can do, compete against schools and show UH that I can play.”

This Sports Network analyst is picking BSU and Fresno State, just like what WAC Commissioner Karl Benson is hoping for. Lots of bulletin board material for Adam and the rest of the Warriors.

Amazingly enough, the Bulldogs have never won the WAC title, but have an excellent chance this year as 17 starters return to a team that rolled over Georgia Tech in the Humanitarian Bowl. Nevertheless, their season finale is a date in Boise and the Broncos have won the last three meetings on the blue turf by an average score of 48-19.

Every team, with the exception of Hawaii, should be a tougher opponent this year, so it’s doubtful a club will finish the regular season undefeated in league play. With that in mind, it’s time to run down how the nine squads will finish in ’08:

    6) HAWAII – The Warriors will regress more than any other FBS team, going from 12 victories all the way down to five or six.

Offense – It will be a revamped offense in Honolulu. Not only does Colt Brennan say goodbye, but 80% of the team’s receptions are gone as well. In addition, last year’s five offensive linemen started every single game and three of them have moved on.

Defense – The Warriors had one of their better defenses in recent memory last year, allowing 25.5 ppg. However, two of their 13 games were against FCS schools and five more came vs. clubs that failed to average 22 ppg. Imagine how the unit will fare in ’08 with just four of its top 10 tacklers back.

Outlook – June Jones picked the right time to leave Hawaii. The Warriors will be lucky to win four league matchups. Remember, even though they went 12-1 last year, they only covered four of their 11 board games.

    (Jesse) James,

Try look at Joshua Leonard’s photo on the team roster page on the athletics website.

I know players do not go out there to hurt someone intentionally, BUT dis braddah… one look at his photo is enough to make a QB throw the ball away.

    Article about Favre and Colt.

Like Aaron Rodgers, Jason Campbell’s rookie contract expires after the 2009 season. The Skins have to decide this year whether they will lock him up for the future or move him elsewhere. They can’t make that call if Campbell is on the bench. He has to play!

Favre’s decision to unretire is just as inconvenient to the Redskins as it is to the Packers. Favre might have been a factor here if he roiled the waters in 2009. Then, the Skins would have made their decision on Campbell. They would have a sense of whether Zorn as a coach will be closer to Andy Reid or Steve Spurrier and whether Colt Brennan’s potential is closer to Tom Brady or Casey Bramlet.

If you knew Campbell is a goner, Zorn is a winner and Brennan a keeper, then Favre as a bridge quarterback until Brennan is ready in 2010 makes sense. We don’t know any of those things. We believe Campbell will take that next step, making this entire thought process moot; but he has to play to know for sure.

  94. Garret July 21, 2008 3:37 pm

This writer in Las Cruces just gave MORE bulletin board material for the Warriors. He picked UH to be *seventh* in the WAC, below even NMSU!

    7. Hawaii — Warriors lose head coach June Jones and QB Colt Brennan among others. Also lose top four receivers. But the program was good under Jones and that could continue this year despite his departure. If the team can find itself early, it could finish in the top three.

Notre Dame’s new AD hints at conference realignment and BCS changes being possible…are they going to join a conference and are the conferences going to be grabbing teams in the near future?

On Notre Dame’s football independence: “I think it’s a critical part of who we are as a school. I think part of it is navigating what I think are sea changes that are coming. If the BCS gets reformed in some way, if there’s a reshaping of the conferences, we’ve got to navigate those waters. (But) it’s who we are.”

  97. Garret July 21, 2008 3:44 pm

Feature story on Mouse Davis! Since Ron Lee’s offense goes back to Mouse’s offense instead of JJ’s variation of the offense, a lot of what Mouse says here could be relevant to the new UH offense.

“A lot of people trash (the run-and-shoot), but when I hear them say that, I laugh,” says former NFL quarterback Jeff George, who played three seasons in Atlanta with Davis as his quarterback coach. “Everybody in the NFL uses what amounts to the run-and-shoot now because of what Mouse started way back then.

“Yeah, there are some differences. But when teams run the four or five wideouts, that’s really the run-and-shoot — people just don’t want to admit it. When it comes down to it, Mouse Davis created a lot of what’s going on in the NFL right now.”

Marty Mornhingweg has been around some of the game’s offensive experts, and he includes Davis in the discussion.

“There are parts of the run-and-shoot in virtually every offense in this league,” says the offensive coordinator of the NFL Philadelphia Eagles, who played for Davis in the Arena Football League. “As far as read routes and timing and leverage, all those things he teaches, it’s all very current. His systems are simple, yet very complicated to the defensive side. And Mouse started the whole thing right there at Portland State.”

“The run-and-shoot was a great fit for that time,” says Rodney Peete, one of Davis’ QBs in Detroit. “A lot of people said it wouldn’t work, but Mouse believed in the offense and what it could accomplish in the NFL and was committed to it. When people were second-guessing him, he was still committed to running it in the NFL.

“And it worked for us. We were scoring points. It was the defense that couldn’t keep up with the offense, because we were scoring too fast. That was frustrating — to put up 28 points and lose.”

Another ex-Duck, Greg Moser, caught 36 passes playing under Davis with the Houston Gamblers of the U.S. Football League in 1984.

“Done correctly through repetition of practice, the run-and-shoot works,” Moser says. “We had two guys catch 100 passes, and there were plenty of catches to be had for everybody.”

  98. Garret July 21, 2008 3:44 pm

Instead of run-and-shoot or four-wide, Mouse likes a different name for the offense.

Davis always has preferred calling the offense the “Double Slot,” in part because of the frivolous sound to “run-and-shoot.”

“Coaches and media kind of put a stigma on it, maybe because it’s called run-and-shoot, like it’s something off the playground,” he says. “That couldn’t be further from the truth. It requires more discipline than with most other offenses. I’ve enjoyed what we’ve done, my players have enjoyed what we’ve done, we’ve had success, and we’ve always believed in it. If someone else doesn’t believe it, that’s their problem.”

  112. d1shima July 21, 2008 6:40 pm

    Surprise!
Tim Tebow is selected to the pre-season All-SEC team by SEC coaches.

Linebacker Brandon Spikes (Shelby, N.C.) was a unanimous selection by the league’s coaches as a first-team All-SEC defensive team member. Quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.), running back/wide receiver Percy Harvin (Virginia Beach, Va.) and tight end Cornelius Ingram (Hawthorne, Fla.) were first-team offensive selections, while Brandon James (St. Augustine, Fla.) was selected to the special teams’ first-team as a return specialist.

Ten ators were named to First, Second or Third teams. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.

  113. d1shima July 21, 2008 6:44 pm

Interestingly 3 DB’s were named to the 3rd team: Major Wright, Joe Haden and Wondy Pierre-Louis.

Despite what othe SEC coaches think, Urban Meyer thinks his team’s strong point is the O-line according to this blog writer.

Either Jim Tartt or Phil Trautwein should have at least made the All-SEC second team. The SEC released the coaches picks for the all-SEC first-through-third teams, and although the Gators filled the predictable slots at QB (Tim Tebow), WR (Percy Harvin) and TE (Cornelius Ingram), arguably the team’s biggest strength was not rewarded.

If Florida’s the best offensive team in the conference and Urban Meyer says the OL is his team’s strongpoint, there’s no reason why 13 linemen should be listed ahead of Florida’s best two.

  124. d1shima July 21, 2008 7:30 pm

And so the search goes on for relief for Tebow.

If Emmanuel Moody’s not the guy, expect Tim Tebow to run…a lot (again). It seems like Chris Rainey is of the Harvin mode (all over the field) and Kestahn Moore, although he’ll likely improve, won’t be the dynamic workhouse Meyer needs. Meyer said he’d love to have a 1,500-yard rusher, but the Gators have to win with the best options on the field. You’ve got to think Tebow won’t equal his 2007 total of 210 carries, but much of that workload needs to fall on a guy who will provide consistency every game (of the non-fumbling mold). Moody might be the only option for that…that’s if he’s for real in the spread offense.

    Ah….

    The “spread offense”…

I love it when the bigger schools or the NFL calls it that while the big mouths have “pooed” all over Hawaii for mastering it under JJ and soon Ron Lee.

Rule of thumb in the football mainstream media and thinking tanks in relation to Hawaii Football:

If it’s done in Hawaii, the stats are over-inflated and not a true indication of skill, BUT if the SAME thing is being done elsewhere it’s legitimate.

    Man I can’t wait for August 30th.

May the turf in Florida run RED.

    Good Evening Tsaikos!!

I went to watch practice this afternoon and was able to personally thank Adam Leonard for all of us. ST has a tentative guest set up for next week.

This was the first time I seen Grasso punting the balls but didn’t recognize him without his curly blond hair.

They were practicing the goal line area towards the end. With the height at receivers, they were able to work on the fade routes. Offense looks like it is getting better each day.

It’s definately an advantage for the transfers and new guys to be out there working out with the other players. They seem to be picking things up.

I feel pretty good about the upcoming season.

Back to yesterday and Colt’s first practice- this guy is more edgy in his reporting but apparently respected in the area:

“The offense had its moments this afternoon, the most impressive being a Colt Brennan pass to Maurice Mann in double coverage. Mann was covered by Leigh Torrence with Landry collapsing on the play. Brennan made an excellent throw that Mann was able to pull in 25 yards downfield.”
“quarterback sporting a visor? No, not a Steve Spurrier visor. We’re talking about an Alex Ovechkin tinted visor special. Why exactly does young Colt Brennan feel the need to rock the visor? (Must resist urge to make joke about not wanted to be identified on the way home past the women’s dorm).”

“Speaking of Colt Brennan, I am proud to officially announce he is following in the white footsteps of Jesse Lumsden and Jimmy “Save” Farris as the beloved token white guy on the roster. Reed Doughty, Todd Yoder and Derrick Frost were also nominated for this prestigious award.”

The Redskins hired a blogger…in the next few years probably every NFL/NBA/MLB team will employ at least one blogger. I hope that Matt Terl gives us a lot of coverage of Colt.

After weeks of speculation and more speculation, the Redskins got their blogger, and just in time, too. He is Matt Terl, he reported for work this past weekend, and his blog–tentatively called “The Official Blog of the Washington Redskins”–went live on Sunday morning.

So when you were a kid growing up, where did “official Redskins blogger” fit into your career dreams?

Well, I’ve been a Redskins fan for as long as I can remember, literally, and writing for my own enjoyment since the fifth grade. So if someone had managed to explain to me what a “blogger” was — which would’ve been tough, as my entire grasp of computers at the time revolved around making the little turtle draw pictures in LOGO — I think it would’ve ranked fairly high up there.

Did you ever want to be a professional sports writer?

Not once I realized that doing so would involve starting off as an amateur sports writer. I covered some high school basketball games and was just disastrous at it, so I immediately moved over to the Features section, where I did better.

  144. Garret July 21, 2008 8:33 pm

Interesting that this new media format is being tried–subscription-based 24-page daily e-mail. Basically this would be a daily newspaper delivered via e-mail that has just a sports section.

Sporting News will launch on July 23 Sporting News Today, a daily editorial product styled after a traditional newspaper but which will be e-mailed each morning to a list of subscribers–a hybrid format that the company is calling a “daily digital sports newspaper.”

The new digital newspaper’s content will be heavily news driven, aimed at what Sporting News executives see as a growing universe of die-hard sports fans on the Internet. The product, which utilizes technology licensed from the digital magazine firm Texterity, has been designed to reproduce the visual packaging of a newspaper while blending the navigation of the Web, according to publisher Ed Baker. “Physically, it looks like a newspaper, it reads like a newspaper, and feels like a newspaper,” he said.

Romo was responsible for Parcells quitting coaching?

Hey guys thought you should check out HBO’s Real Sports Tuesday night at 10 p.m. They sent us an advanced transcript and the most interesting tidbit revealed by a relaxed Bill Parcells was that basically Tony Romo’s botched hold on the snap that cost the Cowboys the wild card victory over the Seahawks two seasons ago drove him into retirement from the sidelines forever.

“And all you got to do is kick a field goal, the most elementary of plays, and then you just don’t do it. And so I don’t want to go through that process again. Too much blood.”

Aunty Ronnie – Mahalos for reposting my question to Adam today, eventhough it wasn’t answered I appreciate it.

  150. d1shima July 21, 2008 8:54 pm

    curveball,

I spent days learning how to spell Hao..this college education is really paying off..

lol…you should be safe if ever you find yourself around Waialae and 3rd.

  151. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 8:55 pm

Grasso’s back? Hope he’s been working on his leg strength so if he ever gets the chance to see the field can boom some consistent 50+ yarders…ala Mat McBriar style

  152. Stretch July 21, 2008 9:01 pm

Grasso’s punts today looked like it was going higher than further. Not sure if this was the first day back kicking for him so need to give him some time to get back into it. He stuck around after the practice was over and was kicking. He got off a few boomers but hope he can be more consistent during the games.

  153. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 9:02 pm

Love how Adam and Blaze are a bunch of clowns, but both have that killer instinct mentality. Blaze always thinking to kill people everytime, Adam wanting to hit so hard the guys moaning in pain…gotta love it! Feel sorry for Tebow when he tries to run and stumbles upon one of these two shooting the running lane and obliterating his arse!

  154. SteveM July 21, 2008 9:04 pm

Ooops … this should have been the direct link to the photos and videos if you clicked on “April 19’s Krazy Karaoke Call” in the Karaoke Call announcement above.

  155. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 9:08 pm

That’s good he gets some air time under the ball. Watching him last year during warmups he always seemed to be booming his punts into the endzone standing on the 50 with good hang time. During the game though I think he would rush his kicks and not impact the ball as he would’ve like too. He does need to be more consistent but I think he has a pretty decent leg which could be stronger. Hearing rumors that another kicker is going to be heading our way from Cali??? Anyone know the scoops on that?

  156. Garret July 21, 2008 9:13 pm

Doris mentioned that UH offered *3* players at their camp today. I’m so happy that UH is having these camps and think that it will be an awesome tool for recruiting, benefiting both UH and local athletes.

although it was previously reported that Chauncy Makainai had been offered by UH, it was made official late today
along with Benson Ma’afala (damien) and Micah Hatchie (Waipahu).

  157. Garret July 21, 2008 9:16 pm

    Pauoa Boy,

UH is getting a walk-on kicker from the high school that Dan Kelly went to. I believe he goes to high school not too far away from where you live now.

Howzit Tsaikos! Just read this post. Thanks for the shout out.

Eh – Lots of KS alum on this site! Awesome.

Ronnie – props to c/o 84! Me and Ronnie were in the band together until I dropped out. Jack Flash – don’t remember that song from BBags. R u sure? I gotta add my own memory of me and Angie (without Lehua) competing in our Jr year brown bags against Robert Kekaula and losing to him and his band singing Kalalau (I think…). So no feel bad!

Thanks for the love. We still need to figure out who everybody is when we’re at the practices and games, so pls come up and say HI when you see us, k?

Go Warriors. We are ready for an awesome season. Back coach Mac!

    Good luck to Kahai!

AT&T posted an ad that all iPhone subscribers could access 17,000 WiFi hotspots for free…but pulled the ad and said that it was a mistake. This is actually the second time AT&T has done this and taken it back.

Netbooks are more popular than many PC makers expected, causing some worry that these cheap and small portable computers will reduce their profit margins.

  163. Kekoa July 21, 2008 9:19 pm

Doris ~ My apologies for dragging my feet. I’ve been getting in my own way lately and can’t seem to set things right. I’ll catch up with you on Tuesday morning if I can. If not I’ll pass the donations on to your staff.

Meanwhile, since you are on your way to attend your son’s flight school grad ceremony, here is a look at that young lad of yours. He is one of America’s finest now, and that places him on the #1 team in the world!

Congratulations to Lt. Billy Sullivan. We salute you sir! Doris, you must be the proudest mom on the planet!

Big Mahalo to Barry M. for providing this photo of Lt. as he prepares to fly off into the Wild Blue Yonder.

Nissan, GM, and Ford have promised to reserve 300 hybrid cars per month for New York city, as NY needs to replace its fleet of yellow cabs. Amazing that the estimate is that a hybrid car saves a cab driver $6500 per year. Also amazing that the standard yellow cab (not a hybrid) gets just 14 miles per gallon!

  165. Kekoa July 21, 2008 9:21 pm

Sorry…Like I said, I’ve been getting in my own way lately, let me make the correction…Take a time out!

    Garret,

UH is getting a walk-on kicker from the high school that Dan Kelly went to. I believe he goes to high school not too far away from where you live now.

I thought he was enrolling at UH this fall and redshirting?

  168. Kekoa July 21, 2008 9:28 pm

Shall we try that photo of the “Lt” now?

  169. Kekoa July 21, 2008 9:32 pm

OK gang, the correction was made on post #163, and now if you click on my name, you will see Lt. Billy Sullivan, Doris Sullivan’s All American son.

Thank you again Doris for all that you do to match kids, parents and Universities together so they can play football and earn a much deserved schollie!

  170. gigi-hawaii © July 21, 2008 9:33 pm

The Lt is very handsome. His mother must be very proud.

  171. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 9:37 pm

Garret – That’s what I’ve been hearing lately about this kid from Temecula area looking at Hawaii. I live right next to Vista Murrieta High and went to check out there campus and football field, very big school and very nice field, and was talking football with one of the campus workers and he told me about a couple kids from the area with D1 potential…

Dan Kelly went to some Christian school right in Temecula?

  172. gigi-hawaii © July 21, 2008 9:38 pm

My check to PIAA will go out in tomorrow’s mail.

  173. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 9:38 pm

Linfield Christian High School I think…

  174. PIAA DS July 21, 2008 9:38 pm

After camp, not at the camp. Very important point.

  175. PIAA DS July 21, 2008 9:45 pm

UH Commit Corey Nielson is a guest tomorrow on AM 1500 at 622am.

  176. BG July 21, 2008 9:50 pm

It was fun times reading the exchange between Ronnie and Jack Flash! And then to have Rob25 pop up as another unexpected friend! And then to have Nalani in the mix! New bonds seem to be constantly woven into the Tsaiko fabric.

Kekoa…you have the answer to Curveballs’ #145?

  177. PIAA DS July 21, 2008 9:51 pm

thanks everyone, Im very proud of Billy. I figure if the USAF will but him in a 50 million dollar aircraft at the age of 24, I can trust him to drive my car when he’s home! (he is cute, huh gigi! anyone have any gorgeous daughters to set him up with???hahahaha)

  178. Kekoa July 21, 2008 9:51 pm

Yes Doris, I posted a note yesterday about our folks interrupting your work at the camp. We’ll be very careful not to do that.

  179. BG July 21, 2008 9:54 pm

Congratulations to Doris and hubby for bringing up such a rising star! 😀

  180. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 9:54 pm

Aunty Doris – No need he’s a pilot, all the hotties will flock to him once they find out…

  181. BG July 21, 2008 9:58 pm

Doris, thanks for the tip on Nielson’s interview tomorrow.

OK, couple more things to do and then it’s early bed time for me.

    Good night for now…

  182. Kelli July 21, 2008 9:58 pm

    I missed the chat… Whoops!

That’s so cool how someone posts here as ラスベガス. I didn’t know this thing could pick up foreign characters. Maybe I should do a post in 日本語 (Nihongo, or Japanese), too.

  183. d1shima July 21, 2008 10:01 pm

    Kekoa,

She talking about da timing of da offahs…no can offah AT camp 😉

  184. d1shima July 21, 2008 10:02 pm

    Congrats Doris.
Das a fine boy ya got dea!

  185. PIAA DS July 21, 2008 10:02 pm

Pauoa..do I want my son with those kind of girls? hahahaha Billy says I put him at a disadvantage sending him to an all boys h.s. (Damien) then going to the Air Force Academy – 4000 guys, 400 girls. We always called him Aloha Billy because he knows everyone, everywhere, but when it comes to girls he’s still kind of shy. But hey, forget Tom Cruise and Richard Gere, Billy Sullivan is here! hahaha

And please, if any of you are at the UH camp PLEASE introduce yourself to me! I enjoy putting faces to the names. After I do my NCAA/recruiting presentation in the morning Im just being Ms. Sociable throughout the morning and answering questions. I really dont mind at all if you come say hello! Ill be there Tuesday and Wed. Head out on Friday early morning.

  186. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 10:04 pm

Garret – the only kicker/punter from Dan Kelly’s high school I can think of is a kid named Collin Yost. Not sure if he’s the one who’s going to be walking on. But heard he’s attended a few kicking camps and kicking combines and has faired pretty well. He also played wide receiver and defensive back and has decent size at 6’3″ 195lbs, sort of like Dan Kelly…

  187. PIAA DS July 21, 2008 10:06 pm

Thanks d1shima, the time I posted that, I took a phone call, hit send and several posts showed up before it so it didnt really make a lot of sense. thanks for explaining it!!

  188. d1shima July 21, 2008 10:08 pm

    Stephen,

    Safe journey.
Look forward to your posts from SLC

  189. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 10:11 pm

Aunty Doris – Probably not but I’m sure your son won’t mind the attention he’ll be getting haha. I bet a little liquor will take care of him being shy around girls especially when he goes to the “O” club and sees the women come a runnin…

  190. Pauoa Boy July 21, 2008 10:13 pm

Kelli – How do you write in kanji? That is pretty cool…

  191. Jason July 21, 2008 10:35 pm

    私は日本語が少し話せる。

(I can speak Japanese a little bit.)

    한국말 조금 밖에 못해요.

(I can speak Korean only a little bit. Thanks to my friend here for translating for me.)

If you can type in Japanese (or Korean, or Chinese, or any language), then you can post in it. Some people might not be able to see it (WassupDoc complains of white boxes at times) because they don’t have the language package installed on their computer. Those of us that do have that installed are able to see those characters, however.

  192. Kekoa July 21, 2008 10:35 pm

D1 ~ Thanks much, I know what you’re saying, but I have it on good authority that there was a certain Tsaiko that took too much of her time one day, and that is what I was ‘gently’ reminding our folks about what not to do.

Sorry if I made it sound unsociable, but it’s just a matter of respecting what a person is busy doing.

  193. PIAA DS July 21, 2008 10:51 pm

Kekoa, you are being very polite in your statement! ha!

    Thanks though, very much.

well, gotta hit the sack. up early to UH in the a.m.

Jack Flash!…Dude, you should have come to the Rich & Ronnie CC! That’s why the old saying “You were a minute late and a dollar short!”

Ronnie & Rob25 were there!…here’s another saying that fits, “You snooze, you lose!”

You could’ve been belting out the K/school song with me, DPK, Bulla, Pride, and R&R in our moment of glory…

  198. L10pc July 21, 2008 11:53 pm

    Hey Stretch,
Was there any dancing in the aisles during the credits? 🙂 I was hoping to see it last weekend, but I got sick 😛 So hopefully this weekend. I’ve been looking forward to this movie for months. Saw the musical at Mandelay Bay in April and loved it…bought the soundtrack and put it on the Ipod. Just in case you haven’t noticed, I’m an ABBA fan…hehehe.

Mamma Mia, here I go again….

  199. Jason July 22, 2008 12:00 am

I think we know what to ask L10pc to sing at the next karaoke kall. 😀

Kelli: I know, we talked about that before. 😛

  200. L10pc July 22, 2008 12:12 am

    Hmmm…checking Mamma Mia soundtrack…. 🙂

  201. SteveM July 22, 2008 12:29 am

Jason — did you notice that L10pc is on the karaoke call RSVP list? I think L10pc is a very versatile singer. ABBA, huh?

Also I look forward to meeting Hawaiianbod for the first time and wafan, who I missed on his last trip here.

  202. Hawaiianbod July 22, 2008 1:37 am

SteveM – Thanks for the Aloha…..and to all those who welcomed me back – Mahalo!

I’m also looking forward to meeting everyone…..although I may be hiding in the corner since i’m so shy.

  203. Ralph July 22, 2008 1:50 am

With a pending suit over the selection process to lay turf at Cooke Field (Ching Field), the Warriors might not have use of it this season or any time soon. Hawaii politics at work for you. It’s who you know or how to make it work for you and no one else. The contractor who did Murakami Field is disqualified for the fb field, why, the new specs require a license he does not have and it is alleged that his license does not give the company the expertise needed to do work on the field. Then, why was he allowed to do Murakami field, go figure…

  204. Ralph July 22, 2008 1:54 am

BHF2 you gotta come over and set the peeps straight and get their acts together. How can you let the contractor lay turf at Murakami Stadium for baseball and turn around tell him he can not bid for the Cooke Field because he isn’t properly licensed to lay artificial turf…Lots of Herman Frazier wannabes at the State licensing office, etc.

  205. Ralph July 22, 2008 1:55 am

    Las Vegas are you up

  206. Ralph July 22, 2008 2:01 am

Koa Mahu and Maryann(e) Doris Sullivan’s son is an Air Force jet pilot who can accommodate a few hotties like you, and Doris will be at the big man’s UH camp this morning and afternoon…you can add him to your Damien collection of beaus, Koakane and James included.

  207. bighilofan2 July 22, 2008 2:20 am

Jim Donovan, K. Mark Takai, Linda Lingle,
    UH LAWYERS:

    please explain to the public:
WHO is the CONTRACTOR filing suit involving laying the field? and why?
    and
WHY are you now telling him he cannot lay down the turf? Is it a warranty issue? is there anyway around that issue from the manufacturer’s point of view, or is the problem a State law problem, precedents, those kinds of stuff? how can we get around the problem?

I KNOW you can provide a reasonable explanation of why we’re going to lose to Florida, yada yada. I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT. I WANT TO HEAR YOUR PLAN ON HOW TO MAKE THIS WORK NOW!!!!

    the bottom line is this:

    GO WARRIORS!!!!

    howz dat Ralph?

  208. bighilofan2 July 22, 2008 2:30 am

    JIM DONOVAN, UH LAWYERS,

my gut tells me that you gotta go public with calling the contractor and his/its lawyers on the carpet, make one side or the other look bad, let the chips fall where they fall. bottom line is, get the field fixed asap. if you got legitimate reason to disqualify that guy, go. if your reason not legitimate, it’ll show.

bottom line is, I do not like administrators who hide behind rules and end up making great suggestions like – cancel JV. by administrators i mean either side, contractor or somebody behind a desk.
we gotta get the field fixed. we got the money. there is an opening in the field, go for the opening. Go Go Go. This is a PR battle front. Make your PR, and Go! Warn em first! Slap da face wit da glove, let em know you not fooling around with da legalese.

This is all about Whiskey Alpha Romeo! 39 days to go. What are they/you thinking? Win!!!

  209. bighilofan2 July 22, 2008 2:46 am

You know, its easy for contractors, administrators, to say we going lose to Florida because our guyz are not as talented/lucky(pickyourword) as da Gay Taaz. But if their players started honing their skills in pop warner, then through JV, Varsity and D!, and UH’s best homegrowns start with pop warner, omit JV and go with Library, then go Varsity and D1, do you really need a teaching crayfeeteekit to know where dat’s going?

the one thing we all have in common, from the homeless to you influential peeps, is a love for Warrior Football. And you’re not going to make (a deal?) to get this done NOW?????

    WIN THE PUBLIC RELATIONS BATTLE.
Make WAR on this one. Its worth it! NOW. We’re playing Florida. And you’re thinking – equate this with… a contract dispute/Central Arkansas? Are you nuts? Are you a BOE administrator? People won’t ask your names? This will blow over?

Wassup Doc, are you listening to me? We gotta win! Win Win Win!!! You get over the big stage fright, the things Adam was talking about today, if you go for the throat right from – NOW! Then you’ll know in your heart of hearts that you gave it your all

Isn’t that what we’re supposed to be teaching the next generation? Giving it your all?

    GO WARRIORS!!

  210. bighilofan2 July 22, 2008 3:06 am

39 days, 3 and a half hours to go!

We’re expecting our Warriors to give it there all.

I’m giving our Warriors my all!

I’m expecting backup! Support the braddaz at the unsupervised workouts. practice.

  211. bighilofan2 July 22, 2008 3:16 am

State TURF licensing guyz, BOE administrators, same smell. reminds me of the TSA, WACHUT. The words are the same. Security. Regulations. Rules. Policy. what a bunch of hooey! bottom line is, they should be in D3, not infecting a D1.

  212. bighilofan2 July 22, 2008 3:27 am

    COOKE/CHING FIELD TURF:
    contractor, State licensing rules guy

an anodda ting. alwayz going get guyz who say “no can.” or, but but but but …. alwayz get dat kine.

a few years ago Pres. George Bush had to fly commercial, he had his Secret Service guy wit da gun, and da TSA rules guy at the airport said no can, rules say no can. Pres said he coming wit me, I no can about rules, emergency, sometin like dat… remembah? da SS guy got on da plane even dough da rules said no can? get plenny examples like dat. da main lesson wuz, da guy had to get on da plane like, right now.

same ting for our turf field. its gotta get done like, right now. GO GO GO!!!

WeI gonna be naggin everrybody about dis till da bugga stay fixed. I’m used to fixin tings, no kiddin!

  213. Ralph July 22, 2008 3:32 am

that’s the energy I’m looking for big fella, got to lay the hammer down….where’s all the boosters, Koa Anueanue and Na Koa, why so mum or is this called status quo, the way the downtown hui and and shakers operate. I’m sure the board member is politically appointed and lucky him, he gets to write the specs for bidding. Just like old times, the old boy network at work for us, laughable….

  214. Ralph July 22, 2008 3:34 am

Las Vegas you eat to much with Al? got to take a nap, it’s time to rev up the charger and get to work….

  215. Ralph July 22, 2008 3:51 am

BOR accepts Ching’s donation back in May, 5/30, and its taken this long without accepting any bids….another Hermie boo boo, he should have the field specs drawn up long ago and the state should have fast tracked the permit process once the monies were made available. Waiting 2 months before receiving bids is just unacceptable, be proactive, think out of the box..

Pending litigation, project completion expected in December, the warriors may have it prior to a bowl game or after the completion of all bowl games in January…Only in Hawaii….

  216. Ralph July 22, 2008 3:55 am

with the adrenaline amped up I think it’s going to be a little more difficult to go to sleep right now…

    so where’s everyone!
