Jeramy Bryant out with biceps injury

By Stephen Tsai on October 27, 2009

Greg McMackin announced on his coach’s show that starting right cornerback Jeramy Bryant has a torn biceps and will not play against Nevada. Bryant was seen holding his left arm after today’s practice. Another blow for the Warriors. * * * * * If Bryant Moniz is cleared to practice tomorrow — and all signs point to that — he will start against Nevada, McMackin announced today. * * * * * Defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga, who has missed the […]

Moniz, Rausch expect to be ready this week

By Stephen Tsai on October 26, 2009

Quarterback Bryant Moniz said he expects to play against Nevada this week. He suffered what is believed to be a concussion when he was struck on the back of the helmet during a sack. He actually played one more play after that before leaving the game for good. With concussions, you never can predict return times, especially with a quarterback. But Moniz said he felt better after a shower at halftime. * * * * * Brent Rausch said he […]

Sunny-side up

By Stephen Tsai on October 25, 2009

It was overcast on my side of the island this morning, so I have to assume the sun came up. * * * * * Where do the Warriors go from here? Well, literally, it will be to Nevada, where they will face a Wolf Pack team that rolled up 70 points on Idaho. But who will be the quarterback? Bryant Moniz was said to have suffered a concussion. They won’t rush him back if he’s not completely OK. Maybe […]

Game Day: Boise State

By Stephen Tsai on October 24, 2009

And the haka is back. The Warriors performed it right before running on the field. Well, almost right before. They had a field-goal contest right after. * * * * * Fetaiagogo Fonoti has been added as a game captain. * * * * * OK, it’s really warm and muggy at Aloha Stadium. * * * * * According to Scott Morifuji, Greg Salas missed the team bus to the game. But he arrived in plenty of time to […]

On the positive side …

By Stephen Tsai on October 23, 2009

There seems to be this perception that there’s a feeling of doom-and-gloom in Manoa. I know this because a couple of guys from a Boise radio station were worried about the mood. And you can understand the roots of the concern. The Warriors are 2-4, and they’ve lost key guys on both sides (Greg Alexander, Rodney Bradley, Brashton Satele, Aaron Brown, etc.) And yet … The mood is actually really upbeat. The Warriors have had their most animated practices the […]

The Good Neighbor

By Stephen Tsai on October 22, 2009

Happy birthday to my neighbor, A-House. * * * * * * So, the media was told to keep some changes under wraps until Saturday. We all agreed. But then it slipped out. So I blamed “Ferd” and then I called our boss to scold “Ferd.” And then at practice, I got scolded, and the other reporters gave me the tsk-tsk look because it looked like I gave the info to “Ferd.” And then … we learned that coach Greg […]

Strange twist

By Stephen Tsai on October 21, 2009

Idaho Statesman reports that Shiloh Keo was arrested: http://www.idahostatesman.com/newsupdates/story/944268.html * * * * * Manoa chancellor Virginia Hinshaw gave the Warriors a pep talk during today’s practice. She reaffirmed the administration’s full support of the team, praised the lack of personal fouls this season, and encouraged them to believe they will beat Boise State. * * * * * Today’s practice featured Brash … … and Nash … … And Dana Takahara-Dias’ shaka dash … * * * * * […]

Heun to start at middle linebacker

By Stephen Tsai on October 20, 2009

Jake Heun’s latest move is into the starting lineup. Heun will start at middle linebacker against Boise State. Blaze Soares and R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane will be the outside linebackers. * * * * Heun said the defense has a new motto: Nut up or shut up! * * * * * Right slotback Kealoha Pilares worked out at left wideout. It was more of a test run. Joe Avery is expected to start at left wideout in place of injured Rodney […]
