Heun to start at middle linebacker

Jake Heun’s latest move is into the starting lineup. Heun will start at middle linebacker against Boise State. Blaze Soares and R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane will be the outside linebackers.

Heun said the defense has a new motto: Nut up or shut up!

Right slotback Kealoha Pilares worked out at left wideout. It was more of a test run. Joe Avery is expected to start at left wideout in place of injured Rodney Bradley.

Living up to the Aloha spirit, UH is allowing the Idaho Statesman reporters to interview Warrior players. Boise State does not make its players available to media from an opposing school’s area. Do they know that Hawai‘i has a vote in the AP poll?

Here’s Bryant Moniz talking to Chadd Cripe of the Idaho Statesman:

If anybody has a question they want asked to a UH player or coach, text me at (808) 256-0223. I’ll try to get your answer after today’s practice. I’ll post some answers here; some I’ll just text back to you. And if you’re from Boise, the answer is: Yes, Alexander and Bradley will be playing this week. Please adjust your game plan accordingly.

    auryte,

now you know that the WB House is back in order with Big Daddy ST swinging the big stick, and the big schtick (me) is #1

and while we are on the subject of moderation, the one thing I love about this blog is the passion. even misdirected passion is something to appreciate, because without friction there is no movement. did you ever see a sailboat in the doldrums? that’s right….it goes nowhere.

if you’re not passionate about anything, life is like a bowl of jello…….sometimes we can get off the beaten path, and that is why we have our very own GPS Master, ST, and he is the originator, the creator, of WB.

welcome back ST, your hiatus is officially over!

  5. Bulla October 20, 2009 6:31 am

    bhf2,

is it a coincidence that the big schticks come home first?

    GO WARRIORS
    GO WARRIORS

Oh, Bulla, things aren’t so peaceful in Blog Paradise.
A co-worker, who is on sabbatical in Costa Rica until March, said the blog is just too Linfield friendly. Mark has decided to zap me until we print more news on Willamette. Or is it Whitworth. Does every team in that league start with a W?

  7. bighilofan2 October 20, 2009 6:38 am

    Good morning Tsaikos.

    Gulp…. 😀

okay okay, I admit chucklin to da scraps yestaday, until my friend and da guy I neva meet yet was going full on witout grease or nuttn. 😆

and i admit to being a wiseacre. trying to make like rasu begasu.
    i guess i neva succeed. 😀

so i’ll check my temperature…. and my tongue …. for awhile …. 😆

just so you know, though, I still think there is subtle infighting, whatever you want to call it… no hard facts… my gut tells me so. i hope I’m wrong.

    Go Warriors.

I just want wanted a little courtesy.
When people don’t even want to stop by to collect their birthday wishes, some tinkering is necessary.
By the way, I just saw Midori drive by on her way to work. Which means:
    1. I’d better get ready.
    2. I really need curtains for my picture window.

  12. whitey October 20, 2009 6:40 am

Got to be careful Sat night after the game. Don’t know who you might run across on the dark side. Ferd, in this am article said, he hopes Coach Pedersen doesn’t have to go to the dark side. That’s ok, if he’s there, I’ll buy him a biru.

any guess on the attendance this week, i was wondering because mrs bulla and i will be attending our FIRST game for this season and we’re excited. i told her that i don’t think it is going to be a sell out, but i’ll check with the ‘oh wise and honorable’ one and see what he thinks. hee hee

  37. Jason October 20, 2009 7:03 am

Just saw this article on ESPN.com. Hmm, reminds me of the UH men’s volleyball team …

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=4579737

Michael Rogers, chair of the NCAA Division I Amateurism Cabinet, told ESPN that coaches associations have lined up behind his group’s recommendation to open college sports to prospects who come up through clubs that include professional athletes, but didn’t receive salaries.

It is a move shaped, in part, by the influx of foreigners into college athletic programs.

Currently, an athlete can jeopardize their amateur eligibility by merely playing alongside a teammate who received “more than actual and necessary expenses” from that club.

“One athlete professionalizes all of his teammates,” said Rogers, a Baylor law school professor. “There’s a growing consensus that there is an unfair standard. It needs to be changed, and that’s what we’re trying to accomplish this year.”

Also, does anyone think it’s hypocritical that the NCAA stripped UH of its title, but they profit by selling DVDs of that championship game?

  38. whitey October 20, 2009 7:04 am

This weekend our Warriors step it UP another notch.
Improve every week, that’s the best’est a team can do.

Bulla, are you heading into Greeley land this Saturday? If so, there is a certain Asst. Coach for UNC that him and I go back to peewee football days. Name is Jay Stribling. If you get a chance, giv’em the Howzit from me. Hope he remembers. He was quite the QB back then.

    Go get’em Wildcats
    Warriors, Buck them Bronks

It will be delivered to Hawaiian Airlines, c/o US Air Cargo at Las Vegas Intl Airport.
Delivery will be on Wed. 21Oct. between 0900-1200

Would be nice to see Greg and Rodney using the new bike for their rehab.

  41. oldie October 20, 2009 7:10 am

    Morning all!

    ST,

I agree 100% with your #291 in the last post.

I learned a long time ago that their a lot of Tsaikos with good insight of what’s happening. Guys like Garret, Jason, Pride, FloridaTed, and many others. So I mostly lurk.

I only read this blog. If something’s happening with Warrior football, it gets posted here. I don’t need to go anywhere else.

But I agree that lately it’s been harder to find the good posts with all the other stuff going on here.

The players need our support. This is when the true fans stick with the team. Criticizing the coaches is okay. They are paid professionals. However, we should remind ourselves of the countless hours they put in. They want to win as badly as we do (if not more so).

    Go Warriors!!!

  42. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 20, 2009 7:13 am

We are NOT going to be in Greeley this weekend, booked our travel for the Montana game next week, and then the Cal Poly game in Ogden in November…and then the playoffs, God Willing.

UNC is playing ok, nothing exciting, but WE definitely have to win out the rest of the season to be eligible for playoffs. The good news is we get to catch the UH game against Boise this week, and we’re excited about that! 🙂

    Have a good day

we got the train rolling, and i gotta roll to waikiki to get to work 🙂

I hear the train a-coming, it’s rolling round the bend
and I ain’t seen the sunshine since I don’t know when,
I’m stuck at Folsom Prison and time keeps dragging on.
But that train keeps a-rolling on down to San Antone.

When I was just a baby, my Momma told me, “Son,
always be a good boy; don’t ever play with guns.”
But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.
When I hear that whistle blowing, I hang my head and cry.

Agree to a certain point, yet I am in agreement that delivery has to be done tactfully.

Here’s my take on the coaches matter. You’re right on all matters but here’s a point that I believe many are attempting to make albeit some do it without much tact.

“They (coaches) all want to win…”

Most football players want to play in the NFL.
Most entrepreneurs want to become millionaires or better yet, the next Bill Gates
Most students want to get straight “A’s”

You get where I’m going with this..

They all want it, but not all will get it. And like most, our coaches included, it does not go with a lack of effort, as you state. The bottom line is that life is not always fair and some will make it, others won’t. The questioning that many have is whether our HC is in that group that will find success or in that much larger group that does not.

At this point, given what has and is happening, which points to leadership qualities and ability on display, many are of the opinion that he may fall in that much larger group.

The team, to a person I would say that everyone supports the young men who are on the field, sideline and wsih to become Warriors.

  61. bighilofan2 October 20, 2009 7:55 am

    Buffoman,

    I agree.

But I’d also like to say that I agree with the majority, who I think say give Coach chance, he neva get enuf chance yet.

which is why i neva call 1-310-233-4x2x yestaday. wuz kinda late anyway, but the point is, i coulda, and i so wanna be like ST, a digga of facts, no take no for an answer. 😀 but alas, I am not a beat writer. 😀
and I am for the coach! and the team! and I don’t just say it. i do it!

or don’t do it, as the case was yesterday. i’m leaving the coaching to the coaches. just no like any subcoach be so subtle, to da detriment of the coach and our team.

okay nuff fo now. I will see you later.

    Go Warriors!

Remember, in 2007, we could have easily lost that La Tech game early on in the season. Also almost lost at San Jose and Nevada if not for some last minute heroics and some good luck. The result? No BCS frenzy, no sold out stadium, etc. Cherish the memories amd hope for the best for our team no matter what. Go Warriors!

The Tsai-ko cruisers and some others who expressed interest in cruising received an email from me last week. The sailings listed have been extended 2 weeks into December and the price has dropped even more.
Let me know if you are interested (you make your own reservations–I’m just trying to find a common saiing date, if any).

If you want to be added to my cruisers email list, please email me at: stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com

  100. Garret October 20, 2009 9:21 am

This was a nice post on WSN:

    Greetings to The Warriors…..

First off….disclaimer…I’m a Vandal. Wanted you to know that me and a couple other members of The Vandal Bench went to the hospital today to check on Rodney Bradley, tell him we were thinking of him and praying for him. What a wonderful young man! He was very appreciative of our coming by to visit and seemed in good spirits and looked pretty good for just having surgery to repair the leg bone breaks injury. He said he gets to return to Hawaii on Tuesday. We told him we would continue to keep him in our prayers and we would be watching for him and cheering for him in the future. We are very close to our Vandal players and wanted to let him know that we cared about him too. Besides, you have one of our most loved coaches of all time on your staff, Chris Tormey, so we feel a connection! You have a good team, was impressed with meeting Rodney, and say hi to Chris for us, and take good care of him! God Bless Rodney and you all.

just so you know, you don’t have to lift your arms that high. it appears as though you are under arrest rather than being checked for metallic parts. besides, i hope you did the deordarant thing that day.

i enjoy your game day commentaries and insights. i think you should apply for offensive coordinator next year.

question: is it still your dream to be the play-by-play announcer rather than the color guy?

    Coach Mack:

If you want to be different, from a strategy point of view, on the first offensive series:

    1) QB under center with “I” formation – toss ball to RB and do a “student body to the right”; 2nd play same except to the left.

    2) or, clump all your receivers to the right or left; then have Avery go in motion to the TE spot and run your play ( pass or run).

I guess what we fans are looking for is different schemes in your offense.

Sorry, ST, but I no more “text” capabilities.

    For Kanoa:

When you were growing up and playing sports. What was your dream sport? What was the one sport that made you want to take it to the highest level possible?

  135. Kekoa October 20, 2009 11:26 am

    For Robert:

Have you ever considered doing a Music Video of popular Hawaiian songs?

You have such a full, rich baritone voice. It would be awesome to have one available for the many people who admire your singing.

  136. Kekoa October 20, 2009 11:30 am

    Toss Up Question:

Where do you see Television Sports reporting heading in the future?

Will it be shared reporting on one venue?…what is your take?

  137. Kekoa October 20, 2009 11:35 am

    For Robert:

Wouldn’t it be fun if you could ride the KITV chopper to as many games as you can on Friday nites?

You give the audience live updates as you touch down at each HS field (not featured on OC16 that night). Or a wrap up of each game at your final stop.

  138. Kekoa October 20, 2009 11:39 am

    Question for all:

Why can’t the news director make more room for sports reporting?

Who needs so much time to give us the weather news. Hi, Low, Rain or
    Shine, any questions…next up, Sports!

  139. jm2375 October 20, 2009 11:39 am

Good morning (or what’s left of it)!

Interesting article (I think), could only get to the abstract:

Can Recruiting Rankings Predict the Success of NCAA Division I Football Teams? An Examination of the Relationships among Rivals and Scouts Recruiting Rankings and Jeff Sagarin End-of-Season Ratings in Collegiate Football

The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationships among National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I football teams’ 2002 recruiting rankings from the Rivals (RIV) and Scouts (SCO) recruiting services and the Jeff Sagarin end-of-season performance ratings from 2002–2006. The RIV and SCO recruiting services included rankings for 100 common NCAA Division I football teams for the 2002 recruiting season. Each recruiting service included a total point system rating (TOTPTS) and average star rating (AVESTAR). The Jeff Sagarin NCAA football ratings system was chosen as an indicator of the teams’ performance. Pearson product moment correlation coefficients (R) and the corresponding predictive indices (R2) were used to examine whether the 2002 RIV & SCO TOTPTS and RIV & SCO AVESTAR ratings could predict the Jeff Sagarin end-of-season ratings and total number of wins for each football team for the 2002 through 2006 seasons. In addition, R and R2 values were computed to examine whether the 2002 Jeff Sagarin end-of-season ratings and total number of wins could predict the following season’s recruiting rankings (2003 RIV & SCO TOTPTS and RIV & SCO AVESTAR). The results indicated that RIV & SCO TOTPTS and AVESTAR predicted up to 45% of the variances in the end-of-season ratings and total wins. Thus, other factors (besides recruiting rankings) must be contributing to the end-of-season ratings for the 100 NCAA football teams included in this study. In addition, up to 51% of the variance in RIV & SCO AVESTAR and TOTPTS was predicted by the previous year’s end-of-season ratings or total wins, which suggests that more successful seasons tend to yield better subsequent recruiting classes.

Jake Huen, in your home area, there are plenty of mooses and when they charge, nothing is safe in front of them. This is the game when Jake becomes Moose and does major damage to the Boise offensive line, then the backfield. Out of the way!!!!!!!

Thankfully, the forecast for this weekend in Salem is projecting a high of 60 and partly cloudy. Hope that sticks! 🙂

The challenge will be getting tickets for the game. No mo pre-sale so gotta show up when they open the box office 90 minutes before kick-off.

    Ahhhh….. D3 football. 😆

Get the turnovers and catch those passes and Boise won’t know what hit them.
    Warriors IMUA!

Beat Boise and those previous losses will seem like the distant past.

Good luck Jeff in all your future endeavors.

  205. Slugger October 20, 2009 5:26 pm

Salas, who played safety for one play against Idaho, said he will be used as a defensive back during hail-Mary situations. “When they throw a hail Mary, I can try to swat it down,” Salas said.

It isn’t illegal for Salas to catch that pass, right? Wouldn’t it be an interception!?!

i believe this move is predicated by need at mlb.

  207. al October 20, 2009 5:33 pm

    slugger…no.

but, a hail mary is typically thrown on the last play of a half or game. the hail mary tossing team is behind in the score, hence, swatting it down would make sense since a would be attempt at an interception may cause the ball to be snatched by a wr before gaining possession by the defender. therefore, swatting it down further eliminates a chance for the offensive team to make a catch.

  218. Slugger October 20, 2009 6:19 pm

Just hoping they do better at this game with Boise.

Hope the receivers do some extra work with the JUGS. The dropped passes are frustrating, not only us fans, but the team feels it, too. Solution: work on developing good hands. How was JJ able to develop the ‘Four Horsemen of the Acropolis’ who worked so well with Colt? We have heard about Davone hitting the JUGS even before the light of day graced the practice field. What else did they do?

  219. madeinhawaii October 20, 2009 6:23 pm

    Slugger,

I think Colt’s receivers simply put in the time themselves to be best they could be with Davonne leading the way. If probably had less to do with JJ’s coaching and more to do with whom they were. BUT when you consider that Salas and Pilares are up there in receptions and/or YAC, we’re not too off base. It took the dreadlocks a couple of seasons with Colt to really get to the point where they seldom dropped passes that were catchable. Our guys have had two games with Moniz.

  220. madeinhawaii October 20, 2009 6:24 pm

The yards are there, the touchdowns will follow shortly. Just like they did with Colt, Rolo, and TC.

  221. Slugger October 20, 2009 6:27 pm

    al,

OK, I get it. Salas is tall enough to do that.

    Mahalo for the explanation!

  222. Slugger October 20, 2009 6:43 pm

    mih,

Reps, then. Did Colt & his receivers do additional work together?

  223. A-House October 20, 2009 6:55 pm

    Slugger:

It has been my experience that players with “soft hands” do a lot better at catching balls be it football or baseball or basketball. It’s a genetic gift.

By soft hands, I mean catching the ball and simultaneously bringing the ball to your body with your hands and arms. “Iron hands” on the other hand, are players who are to stiff, maybe semi-lock their elbows, and the ball bounces off or out of their hands.

Can it be taught? I suppose so, but it will take a heck of a lot of practice off the field. Maybe the “jugs machine” can assist.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! You are a special group of people and it’s great to be considered a Tsaiko. We just finished dinner (at home-I cook on the weekends so we minimize eating out) and am enjoying time with the hubby as the teenagers hit the books. Sorry I haven’t been more active; I’ve been kinda busy (maybe my new screen name?) going to Pac-5 games and UH sports as well as physical therapy for Jackie.

Sorry we can’t stop by before the game. I manage the president’s and chancellor’s vip guests and have to be at Aloha Stadium early.

You guys are the best. Hope you’re all having a….pleasant evening!

  229. warriorbg October 20, 2009 8:25 pm

I know I’ve asked this before, but I’m interested to know what prompted all the changes at MLB. Lolotai -> Kisel-Kauhane -> Soares -> Lolotai -> Heun. I recall Lolotai was removed after the C Ark. game because of lack of performance. But if so, why was he moved back for Idaho? Why was Kisel-Kauhane moved? What happened to Paredes? I apologize if my asking seems ignorant, but I’m just curious as to the various reasons for the moves. I’m sure there were/are good reasons/intentions for them.

  233. Stephen Tsai October 20, 2009 8:41 pm

  234. Stephen Tsai October 20, 2009 8:42 pm

Kekaula still wants to be the play-by-play guy. But there aren’t any openings.
And, if you think about it, it’s better to have Kekaula has the color analyst than to move a play-by-play guy into that spot.

  235. al October 20, 2009 8:53 pm

    st….true dat.

actually the worst color commentators have been ex-warriors. i guess robert’s contract also doesn’t allow him to do crossover play by play on other tv stations. i guess kanoa should feel fortunate.

too bad kanoa and robert couldn’t be on the same broadcast team. i thing that would be a dynamic duo.

    and great show today.

Tsai-Meister, I just enjoyed your ‘journalistic’ round table, a nice collection of characters, who actually have something to say.

I would love it if you’d turn this into a real, ongoing roundtable, maybe twice a month, and have some strong subjects to discuss.

All the ones I’ve seen today, are worth listening to, especially when they get serious,

    Oh, well, just a thought.

  242. Kazz ("Shoji" in Japanese means "1000".) October 20, 2009 9:08 pm

    A thought:

Coach Mack said one of the reason’s for the swiss cheese-like run defense is a lack of attacking the running back right at the LOS.

We’ve seen our front four overmatched and we’re missing a healthy Meatoga and I’m sure Hanohano isn’t 100% either although he’s playing.

One part of me wants to think that we can change the LB corps as much as we want but the issue remains in the trenches. There are issues in mental errors and missed assignments everywhere, but starts with the root, and the root of the defense, just like the offense is at the LOS.

Nothing can do, but play with the hands we’re dealt and obviously the coaches and players haven’t thrown in the towel yet sooo…

    COME SATURDAY GLOVES COME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  243. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 20, 2009 9:14 pm

  244. Slugger October 20, 2009 9:20 pm

    Ralph,

I give those players credit for getting up EARLY to get to practice at 7 am (when they have practice that early; is that still the schedule?). I’ll see if I can get out of my place earlier to spot if anyone is practicing on their own. Just making kope & waking up takes me a while: water plants, read the blog, check email… Farmer’s Market tomorrow opens about 8 am, so I need to get there to buy ingredients for corn chowder on the weekend.

  245. Bulla October 20, 2009 9:29 pm

    Kazz,
as you know the nose guard or DT is a thankless position no matter what way you look at it.

the NG or DT has to be nutz, card carrying psychotic nutz…..they have to get into a mental fervor that is life threatening to most humanoids. they realize that they will face 600+ lbs. of snarling O linemen as a minimum on every play…..sometimes upward to a 1,000 lbs. because it could become a triple team.

the crazy part of this is when a NG or DT can overpower, out maneuver, out think, the blockers and get in the backfield, somehow someway. now, with the NG or DT in the backfield, he creates chaos by disrupting the play.

it is a thing of beauty when the DT finds himself in the backfield, what joy!

football players know that the craziest dude on the team is their NG / DT, just because of what they go through on every play……..God Bless the NG’s and DT’s of the world

    GO WARRIORS
    GO WARRIORS
    GO WARRIORS
    GO WARRIORS
    GO WARRIORS

    GO WILDCATS (X2)

  246. Slugger October 20, 2009 9:58 pm

    Kazz,

I haven’t read it yet, but read the Na Koa lunch report. Coach Lumpkin went over some of the problems in stopping the run. I don’t know how much information is going to be in the report; since you don’t have the corresponding video to “see” what he pointed out, I don’t know how much will be explained.

  247. Jason October 20, 2009 10:13 pm

What Lumpkin talked about, according to the report uhwarriors put up, is exactly what Aranda talked about last year. It all starts with gap control. All 11 have gap and contain responsibilities, and we have been sorely lacking in maintaining that discipline. Part of it is we’re just getting killed off the LOS and that blows everything up, but when we’re holding our own inside, every mistake I’ve seen has been assignment and alignment. I know Miano mentioned that the other week, too. And don’t forget that good tackling is as much form as it is position. You need to be in the right place to make a good, solid tackle.

  248. LizKauai [iMac] WARRIORS! IMUA! October 20, 2009 10:13 pm

Yup al, it’s nice to have the blog back. I’m glad Warrior Mojo is on our side.

It was getting really old watching some very good people here, including the blog host , getting mugged by people who as Stephen so aptly put it, just weren’t “likeable’…

    It’s just a blog about college football…

    Nuff said.

  251. al October 20, 2009 10:35 pm

so head coach jim zorn has been stripped of his authority to do the play calling.
    what?
a head coach who cannot control his own offense?
john riggins rips him last week.

    are the signs posted?

perhaps upper mgt at the skins must like colt since it was their decision to keep him on injured reserve.

many are predicting that zorn’s days are numbered. a new coach will be able to choose between the much maligned jason campbell and the fan favorite brennan next year.

already campbell was benched last week.

    hmmmm.

  252. al October 20, 2009 10:41 pm

    dpk….how you my man?

perhaps you need to attend another tailgate.

  253. labrat October 20, 2009 10:50 pm

Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought when Mack took over he said he would be running more of a one gap scheme which is why he goes for the smaller but faster DTs? In that scheme shouldn’t they need to be attacking more?

    Defense,defense,defense.

    Attack,attack,attack.

  254. labrat October 20, 2009 10:59 pm

The Wahine are going to wear pink uniforms to show support for Breast Cancer Week. Are the Warriors going to wear pink unis too???

  255. Jason October 20, 2009 11:03 pm

I think you’re right, labrat. But still, there are gap controls in a one-gap scheme, in particular with the linebackers. Because the DTs are attacking, there is more of a tendency for the offensive linemen to get to the second level, against the LBs. But as Lumpkin said, the LBs have to maintain their leverage. I think that’s why we’re seeing a lot of changes at the LB spots, in particular the MLB.

As for attacking, I’m seeing a lot more run blitzes being called. Problem with that is when you mix in the pass, you get burned. It was hard to tell watching on TV, but I thought we were playing more cover 0 against Idaho, and we got beat deep a few times.

IDK, I’m more of a two-gap guy. I like having LBs available to make plays, one-gap is good when you’re more interesting in pass defense. But then again, we don’t really have the bodies to run a two-gap scheme, so it’s not like we can just change things up just because everyone is running it down our throats.

  256. Darren October 20, 2009 11:07 pm

Is it safe to come out now? Just watching the replay now.

Moniz looks really smooth. We need to get our swagger back on defense. Bradley’s injury was just nasty…best wishes to him in his recovery. Since when is Dr. Ignacio the team doctor?

  257. Kekoa October 20, 2009 11:15 pm

Mahalo RK for at least considering the Music Video I suggested. In fact, since he mentioned spicing it up with beautiful women in the video with him, it made me stop and think…Mmmmm…yeah baby!

Listened to Call the Coach Show last night. And what was noticeable is that BC is like Coach Mack’s human teleprompter. So many times you here BC assisting Coach Mack when he’s slow in completing his sentence. The coach seems to be, either lost in thought, or can’t remember a player’s name. And BC recognizing this is quick in helping the coach in completing the sentence. If this happened a few times it would probably be normal. But it just seems that when BC and Coach Mack are together it happens frequently.

When it’s important for the coach in being the total package and where it’s important in being a leader and commanding respect it shameful in appearing in public and giving an unfavorable accounting of oneself.

And Coach Mack does, at times. Like during the Call the Coach Shows, specifically last night’s one. And few others I recall, where the coach gets tongue tied.

Maybe he should practice in front of a mirror. Because he’s hurting his image every time he stumbles on his words and the ever so present BC helping him in finishing his sentence.

The coach should concede this. And the same eagerness he took last year in taking Hawaii Studies classes in gaining the cultural knowledge in the hopes it’s helping him in dealing with his players and fans he should also look at reinventing, redeveloping and reestablishing himself in how he speaks by perhaps taking some speech classes.

One gap two gap, ten gap, doesn’t make any difference if your getting blown off the line, and the most of the time we are.

I have watched Jake from the day he came here, he will make a difference if they cut him loose.

Coach to Jake: Jake just go knock somebody out on every play!!!!!

Personal attacks…Hmmm…what exactly are we talking about?

Is that the thin line between observation and constructive criticism?

What real purpose does it serve? Whats the underlying intent?…Just asking.

    Have a great Wednesday everybody!

Having way too much fun on the Oregon coast D-1 and little roomie. Stay with the Wagon Train! Don’t go wandering off on your own. We’ve already had one Tsaiko scalped!

Ieru has a bad ankle? I hope that he’s fully recovered for BSU since the OL already has to replace Letuli.

Nice feature article on Greg Salas in the Idaho Statesman:

“He looks like a smart player, he’s extremely sure-handed, he finds lanes and creases and seams, and then he can get yards after the catch,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said. “I don’t know how fast he is, but he really breaks tackles.”

Salas leads the WAC with 42 catches, 791 yards and an 18.8-yard average – a difficult triple crown. He has 11 catches of 25-plus yards and five touchdowns.

“He’s sort of what the spread people use as a tight end,” Hawaii coach Greg McMackin said. “He has the quickness of a slotback and he breaks a lot of tackles.”

“There are certain players that I always look at and say, ‘I wish I had that guy on our team. He would fit in well,’ ” Petersen said. “He’s one of those guys.”

I just booked a trip to Hawaii!!! If you are planning a trip make sure you use http://www.1000travelsites.com to find the best prices for flights and hotels. They search pretty much every travel provider on the web in a matter of seconds! Then they list the prices from all of the travel providers on one page so you definitely get the lowest price every time. I’ve tried other sites like this before, but this one aways has the most listings and the best prices. It’s like the google of travel searches.
