By Stephen Tsai on July 14, 2011

Seeking an early start to his Warrior career, cornerback Mike Edwards is scheduled to arrive in Manoa this Sunday. Edwards, who played eight games as a freshman at Tennessee in 2009, attended a junior college the past year. He is taking an online class necessary to earning enough transferrable credits. Tate on hold

By Stephen Tsai on July 13, 2011

UH’s plans to bring in Tate Forcier for an official recruiting visit are on hold while the school awaits his transcripts, according to people familiar with the situation. According to a source, Forcier’s mother left a message with school officials that the transcripts would arrive at UH Friday. UH policy requires receipt of a prospect’s transcripts — whether he is eligible or not — as condition of taking an official recruiting trip. In an interview last week, Forcier acknowledged that […]

"Bula" is center of attention

By Stephen Tsai on July 12, 2011

The UFL’s Hartford Colonials want to give the ball to  former Warrior offensive lineman  Brysen “Bula” Ginlack. “We hope he can play center for us,” said Jerry Glanville, Hartford’s first-year head coach. Glanville said Ginlack earned a berth on the training-camp roster after a successful tryout in Houston two months ago. “He was the best lineman in Houston,” Glanville said. “You can never have enough good linemen.” Ginlack can play all five line positions. The Colonials had 10 o-linemen last […]

The older brother of one of the Warriors’ top freshman recruits will be joining the football team this year. Brayden Van Ackeren, who was a receiver at San Diego last year, will transfer to UH, his brother Kendrick Van Ackeren confirmed. Kendrick Van Ackeren is a safety from Bellevue (Wash.) High. Brayden Van Ackeren was a starting receiver and safety on Bellevue’s state champion 3A teams in 2008 and 2009. He was named the Kingco Conference special teams player of […]

Glanville gets ready for camp

By Stephen Tsai on July 10, 2011

“Offense?” Jerry Glanville said. “We’re supposed to have an offense?” Glanville is preparing for his first season as head coach of the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League. Although he has been head coach of two NFL teams — Houston Oilers (now Tennessee Titans) and Atlanta Falcons — Glanville always will be considered a defensive coach. He was the Warriors’ defensive coordinator in 2005 and 2006. “I don’t know what the players can do yet,” Glanville said. “I’ve never […]

New safety settles in

By Stephen Tsai on July 9, 2011

The early reviews are in. “I love it so far,” said Lorne Bridgeford, who moved to Hawaii the past weekend, is enrolled in a summer session, and is set to participate in next month’s Warrior training camp. “Everybody is really cool. I feel it’s a good fit.” Bridgeford received several Division II offers but opted to walk on at UH. Bridgeford, who is 6 feet and 210 pounds, is projected to compete at strong safety. He was a free safety […]
