Tuesday

By Stephen Tsai on November 29, 2011

For the final time this regular season, it is game-plan Tuesday. The Warriors met for an hour of video reviews and strategy sessions, then for a little more than an hour of practice. Of note: • Quarterback David Graves did practice. He’s good to go. The unofficial diagnosis of his blurry vision on Saturday night: An electrolyte imbalance. • With Scott Harding’s right foot in a medical boot — “just a precaution,” he said — a couple of players auditioned […]

Graves is still the 1

By Stephen Tsai on November 28, 2011

• David Graves, who was replaced after being “dinged up” against Tulane, remains as the No. 1 quarterback and is expected to start against BYU on Saturday. Head coach Greg McMackin said Graves will not resume throwing until Wednesday. (Tomorrow’s schedule involves an hour of video reviews and strategy meetings, and an hour of practice.) • McMackin said cornerback Mike Edwards will start Saturday, although he will undergo shoulder surgery after the Warriors’ last game. McMackin said he was assured […]

Blue period

By Stephen Tsai on November 27, 2011

The kids don’t get it. Oh, sure, they’ve heard the stories and sorta-sorta understand why parents have that lost-in-the-past look whenever Garrett Gabriel’s name is mentioned. But it’s hard to imagine the intensity of the passion — and frustration for UH for many, many years — whenever BYU came to town. “Beat BYU” signs were as common as “Live Aloha” bumper stickers. Former UH basketball player David Hallums famously described a hoops victory over the Cougars as being “better than […]

Game day: Tulane

By Stephen Tsai on November 26, 2011

No sense rehashing the obvious. What’s at stake has been stated many times. It will be interesting to see how David Graves performs. It’s always a little different when an opponent has a full week to prepare for a specific quarterback.

Friday

By Stephen Tsai on November 25, 2011

Whoops. Sorry for the late post. Our Black Friday crew spent the wee  hours in a heated battle with other nocturnal shoppers.  If only every football defense could be aggressive as that old lady who bulled her way to grab a ticket for a discounted television. (But, really, did she need to throw that stiff arm?) Combine that with the tryptophan from the late Tom, and that explains the mid-day post. It will be a busy day. The Warriors have […]

Thanksgiving

By Stephen Tsai on November 24, 2011

Thanksgiving is a time for family, food, fun and football. OK, OK, it’s like that every day here. Wishing all of you a great one. * * * * * Really lively practice today. There were full-speed drills. And in a good news/not-so-good news situation, Kenton Chun’s FG attempt was blocked. But it was blocked by John Hardy-Tuliau, so he’s good to go. And the jack-of-all-trades, George Lumpkin, was shooting videos. Video coordinator Chris Williams is on personal leave.

Odds behavior

By Stephen Tsai on November 23, 2011

In this post-Penn State world, UH officials did the right thing in alerting the police and NCAA about an anonymous accusation of wrongdoing by unnamed players. In a time when school presidents, ADs and coaches are being held accountable — and fired —  for not fully pursuing accusations, it is no wonder officials have become Gladys Kravitz. UH’s error was in mis-stating that an HPD investigation was being launched. There is no investigation, and none is pending. This isn’t a […]

Tuesday

The Warriors will have to navigate wet weather this week in preparation for Saturday’s game against Tulane. • David Graves, in his first full practice as the No. 1 quarterback, went through the menu of offensive plays without any problems. The bigger test is tomorrow, when the practice session expands to 2 hours. (The first hour of today’s practice was spent in video reviews and strategy meetings.) • Dee Maggitt worked as the No. 1 cornerback. It was only to […]
