OC Sports to televise Wahine matches; new senior walk; JHT honored

By Stephen Tsai on November 26, 2012

OC Sports will televise the Rainbow Wahine NCAA Tournament matches this weekend. * * * * * The senior walk will be conducted before the start of Saturday’s game against South Alabama. At least that will be the formal ceremony. The players are free to take their final walk or party with their friends and family after the game — reviving the spontaneity of the first senior walk in 1979. In recent years, the administration-controlled senior walk was too commercialized […]

Warriors land a top d-lineman

By Stephen Tsai on November 25, 2012

The Warriors have a lot to be grateful this Thanksgiving weekend after receiving an oral commitment from Waianae High defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii. Tulimasealii, who is 6-2 and 271 pounds, was at the top level of the Warriors’ wish list. He’s agile, strong and fits a big need. “I’m happy I’m going to be a Warrior,” Tulimasealii said. “It’s a good day for me and my family.” He received offers from several Pac-12 schools, but wanted the chance to stay […]

Game day: UNLV

By Stephen Tsai on November 24, 2012

The announcement of the starting lineups should be interesting. The Warriors will go with both Sean Schroeder and Jeremy Higgins at quarterback today. The Rebels will go with either freshman quarterback Nick Sherry, who was listed as doubtful because of an undisclosed injury, or Caleb Herring, who was a wide receiver two weeks ago. * * * * * Last night, UH coach Norm Chow wore an unbuttoned Punahou shirt that exposed a Kahuku T-shirt. * * * * * […]

DUI charges dismissed against Tachibana

By Stephen Tsai on November 23, 2012

Linebacker Alema Tachibana has been cleared to play against UNLV tomorrow after a District Court judge dismissed a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. The key witness, the police officer, failed to appear in court this morning. The case had been postponed when the officer failed to appear during the first scheduled hearing. Tachibana had been allowed to practice but not participate in games while the outcome of his case was pending. The charges were dismissed without prejudice, […]

Happy Thanksgiving

Wounded Warriors project: Giving thanks every day. * * * * * The Warriors had their first Turkey Bowl today, a scrimmage featuring redshirts and developing players. Of note: Ikaika Woolsey can wing it. He threw scoring passes of 37 and 52 yards to wideout Duke Bukoski and a 7-yard TD pass to tight end Ethan Watanabe. * * * * * Nickelback Ryan Pasoquen served as defensive coordinator: * * * * * These are the, uh, unique play […]

Da kine

By Stephen Tsai on November 21, 2012

As Manti Mania continues to build, we are reminded that four years ago, the star of Punahou’s state-title victory was a quarterback named Cayman Shutter. Wonder what happened to that guy? * * * * * For an abbreviated (for UH) season, there sure have been a lot of injuries. Conditioning, training and practicing will have to be evaluated this offseason. Or maybe it’s just bad luck. The o-line will get another tweak with Kapua Sai taking over at left […]

Bright decision

By Stephen Tsai on November 20, 2012

Wide receiver Darius Bright has decided to end his UH football career. Bright will focus on completing work on his bachelor’s degree. He is expected to graduate in December. * * * * * Quarterback Sean Schroeder is expected to be medically cleared to play  in Saturday’s game against UNLV. Schroeder suffered concussion-like symptoms on the last UH play against Air Force this past Friday. Schroeder apparently had suffered such symptoms in previous games, but did not report them to […]

Head cases

By Stephen Tsai on November 19, 2012

Quarterback Sean Schroeder will undergo further examinations today after suffering from periodic headaches since he was struck on the final play of Friday’s game against Air Force. John Lister also left that game after one play because of a headache. Lister did not suffer a concussion and he should be cleared to play this week. * * * * * Linebacker Brenden Daley, who was left behind after being late to practice last week, has been reinstated and will compete […]
