Jason Olive in town

Jay-O in town to participate in the Warrior volleyball golf tournament (think it’s today) over at Olomana.

He gave me a call, hoping to catch up at the arena tonight. Not sure if he’s going to make it but be nice to see him. Just as it was when catching up with Carlos Briceno the other week. What I miss with the way the job has changed is … not getting the chance to get to know the players better. With the Star-Bulletin’s deadlines as the afternoon paper. I could stick around and chat with players and coaches. As long as my stories got in by 1-2 a.m. things were good. Now, deadlines for a morning paper are very tight, especially of the match goes long. sometimes no time to get quotes. Or have to save them for the next day.

Kind of the beauty of the blog, being able to catch people to help out Ann with quotes and then post online. Still not the same, tho, as the old days.

Sorry to hear that, but good insight into the difference in your writing then versus now. But now we have the blog which is more like realtime updates. And you are sooo god at keeping us ‘in the loop’. Mahalo, Cindy, you make my whole day somedays. Go Wahine!

Cindy: Can you check with powers that be for the arena and find out exactly how we get wifi at the arena? I use my iphone, click to TW wifi connection but then nothing happens. I am sure that it partly my ignorance, but I do not pick anything up. Then the big screen says that we have to log into TW Oceanic, but nothing comes up on the iphone which shows that screen. If there are other participants who know what to do, would appreciate any help.

    Hi Cindy,
Just looked at the Toyota teams website and kanani is not listed. Do you know if she’s still with them or did she sign with another team? I wanted to see her play Hawaii in a couple of weeks.
    Thanks for your help

    Cindy:

The story on the King Dave in the paper was terrific!

    1. thanks. the blog drives me nuts some days. Other days, it is very worth it.
    2. will pass along your concerns. I have had some issues as well.
    3. don’t know. last I looked she was on the roster and was in the team photo.
    4. Thanks. it was a real group effort. Thought that Ferd and Ann did great jobs as well. with very little discussion over who would write what, we had no real overlap.
As for my story, I had a ton of leftover quotes from people who didn’t make it into the story. or got cut out.
    saved them for future use.
