The Hawaii women’s volleyball program was insulted about being sent to Nebraska and took it out on the hosts.

On this date in 2002, Lily Kahumoku and Kim Willoughby had 25 kills each and the Rainbow Wahine beat the Cornhuskers 30-25, 25-30, 30-27, 30-21 to advance to the Final Four at New Orleans.

Hawaii was seeded sixth while Nebraska was seeded third. Hawaii ended Nebraska’s 63-match home winning streak.

The run was short lived, however, as UH got swept by Stanford in the semifinals.
