Utah State upsets UH

Ouch.
For the Warriors, that was easily the most devastating loss in recent years.
The Warriors made too many mistakes. There were too many penalties, too many dropped passes, too many blown coverages and too many missed opportunities in the red zone.
But give credit to that Utah State quarterback. He took some shots, but kept on playing.
Greg McMackin said the biggest regret is that he wanted to win out to give the seniors a 10-victory season.
That won’t happen now.
The Warriors remain in Ogden through tomorrow, then head to El Paso, where they will train in preparation for next week’s game against New Mexico State.

* * *

Remember Daniel Smith, who filed a lawsuit essentially claiming that UH reneged on a scholarship offer? Smith joined Portland State as a walk-on, but suffered a back injury in the second game. He’s done for the season, and PSU coach Jerry Glanville said, maybe for his career. (Portland State and UH are staying in the same hotel.) That’s a shame. Despite the ugliness of the law suit, Smith seemed like a nice guy. Wish him well.

* * *

UH might not be in the income bracket of BSC schools, but it certainly is doing better than Portland State. Same hotel, different packages. The UH meetings are mulit-plex productions. Even the volunteer chapel service, led by Barrett Awai of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is better organized. In addition to training-table-sized meals, the Warriors receive snack packs of fruit, sandwiches, energy drinks and water. The Warriors gave some of their leftover snacks to Portland State players.

    Fine Game Day everyone!

Whew, after a beautiful Halloween day and night today is starting out pretty and ending ugly. So sad.

Just a reminder to just about everyone on the continent — remember to change your clocks back one hour tonight before bed-time! Only a two hour difference between HI and the West Coast beginning tomorrow morning.

official offer, dinner at Ruby River tonight, did i say FREE? yes, the mrs wanted me to say FREE at least 3 times….FREE…get the idea.

the way i look at it, you’d get a great meal, save the per dime, i mean per diem, and have more money to spend on your family shopping….what a deal.

anyway, it’s on the record my friend. wear your jacket, it’s pretty cool this morning, but then again i am at a higher elevation…we’re on the 8th floor.

    Hi Bulla and Mrs. Bulla!

Things are going reasonably well up north. We should get up to the mid-50’s today. A scorcher for sure! Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Sounds like the Beast is having a super year — just a continuation from SLS!!! Yay for him!

You folks are sure piling up the frequent flyer miles this year and probably for the next three years, too. That means your trip to the moon will be absolutely free. HA!

    Wafan,

trip to the moon free? have you been talking to the mrs? i tell her that at least once a month……

ever since my new prescription i have been going shishi so much, i told the dr i wanted to ‘relive’ my youth, maybe he thought relieve…..anyway, i wanted the same prescription for the blue pills that all these other guys are popping.

he told me i’d have a few side effects……i didn’t know that going shi shi was one of them….but hey,if it works what the heck

how could that be? then when the mrs asked me about the ‘vitamins’ i was taking, and she looked at the prescription……..’honey, what is this, since when did you start taking NIAGRA?

haha, thought you’d get a chuckle

  18. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2008 5:12 am

    Good morning folks.
I’m still trying to figure out tomorrow’s time change, and whether I’ll be at the airport an hour too early or an hour too late.
Yeah, yeah. I know about that spring-forward, fall-backward stuff. Except in my case, or if somebody forces me to drink an apple martini, I tend to fall in all directions. Should I set my watch on lateral? Oh, wait. I don’t wear a watch.
    Decisions, decisions.
Can anyone tell I visited Five Bucks, I mean, Starbucks this ayem?

I really like this time of year. The cooler weather, leaves changing colors, the holidays, and football.

Unfortunately, that also means digging out the winter clothing, and raking up the leaves. Especially the raking up the leaves part. Dang. From where do they all come? Darn wind blows every leaf in the state into my yard.

Mary Smith memories. That fancy girl was too soft to even play high school football. No surprise he’s hurt again. Maybe he’ll sue the guy for making the ground to hard, and his parents for making him too soft.

    Ahhh, it IS game day.

  37. wafan November 1, 2008 5:25 am

Those docs always have terrible handwriting skills. The pharmacist could not read the scrip and gave you the wrong thing. That is the reason you going shi-shi to much. Take it back and tell ’em you want the one that starts with “V” not “N”.

Watch out for the other side effects; though the Mrs. might be real happy!

  40. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2008 5:26 am

So, “Ferd” is always saying “Rainbows” instead of “Warriors.” Old habit, I guess. It finally was appropriate. We ran into Jesse Sapolu at LAX yesterday. He was going to Maui, I think, for a day. Then coming back to L.A.-area. His son is a junior lineman at Edison High.

  41. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2008 5:28 am

    Thanks for the e-mail, duffer.

  42. Hawaiianbod (Warrior 4 Life) November 1, 2008 5:28 am

nice to see some of the Warriors paying it forward to PSU with the snack packs.

  43. lava November 1, 2008 5:28 am

ST, thanks for all you do. You really make a huge contribution to the UH sports scene, even if you are too humble to admit it. With your excellent coverage of the front page news and your glimpses of what happens behind the scenes, you continue to make a valuable contribution to the elevation of the attention level at a program very deserving of attention. Much aloha. And I’m still looking forward to standing behind you at practice one day so I can tell you to get the hell out of my way because you are blocking my view. 🙂

  44. wafan November 1, 2008 5:28 am

    Mr. Tsai . . .

You have me worried. You are whose favorite GIRL?

Wait a minute. Are you Koa-M?!?!?!?!

Dang. I will probably get SMU’d for this one. Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  45. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2008 5:29 am

C’mon, don’t you like the “Straight Up” video? The one with Arsenio Hall? I miss Arsenio Hall. Well, that’s another thing I missed out on. Sitting in the Dog Pound. The other was investing in that Microsoft company.

  46. lava November 1, 2008 5:30 am

If Ferd keep using Bows he’s going to be accused of being hawaii1954 on the hawaiisportsforum board. That’s not a good thing.

  47. Bulla November 1, 2008 5:30 am

    aloha guys,

mahalo for the love for ‘the beast’. small hint, with PSU’s offense, they adjusted the D, small kine……reason we flew up for the game, it was not planned since we were just in flagstaff last week.

ryan calls up on tuesday just all jacked up, so happy, like i bought him 20 rib eye steaks or something, haha….long story short, because of PSU’s scheme, the DC for WSU wanted his fastest D lineman on the NT position…..das right….THE BEAST will be making his first collegiate start TODAY…..and dat’s da rest of the story….

small kine excited for him, shoot, true freshman, 18 years and 4 months old…….can you say ‘heart attack’?

this time last year he was worried about punahou and kam, 10 months later he’s playing with MEN…….5-2-5 I tell him that all the time 5-2-5 LEAVE NO DOUBT

ok, gotta calm down, still have 4 hours til the game and i gotta tape up, spat the shoes, stretch…..what am i talking about, i’m not even playing, haha

  48. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2008 5:32 am

    wafan:
    Nope, I’m not koa-m.
Speaking of SMU, Glanville said JJ had gone to Portland to be with his ailing mom.

  49. lava November 1, 2008 5:34 am

Hey Bulla, how’s your boy doing in school? We don’t hear too much about the off the field stuff. Has it been tough to study with practice and games and travel and all? It’s a big adjustment I’m sure. I’m impressed with your support for him, getting to so many games already.

  50. Bulla November 1, 2008 5:35 am

    ST,
since you are in Ogden, that is why the coverage for the game is 2 1/2 full pages for Weber State, and Utah State has only the back page, and 1/2 page at that….now if you were in Logan….wait, i don’t know if they have a paper, but if they did….then UH and USU would have most of the coverage.

as the bus rolls into Logan, you’ll see a lot of support with the hand made cardboard signs in the shop windows, and kids running around with little banners…shoot, you might even get milk shakes at the local diner 50% off……America, gotta love it…..

did you notice driving up like 24th street or any others…it looks like Mayberry RFD, looking for Opie to come walking down the tree lined street….haha, this was boomtown 30 years ago in Ogden i think

  51. wafan November 1, 2008 5:36 am

    Bulla . . .

Better buy a new shirt in a bigger chest size — looks like you are going to need it in another 7 hours or so!

Bravo to Ryan and the Eastman family — oh and Weber State, too.

  52. Bulla November 1, 2008 5:38 am

    lava,

school work is priority #1. at WSU, incoming freshman have 2 hours study hall every day, mon through thurs, and a 4 hour study hall on friday. he’s lucky, he had a good start from SL and graduated with honors, he is actually tutoring 2 other players in English this semester. originally he had 5 classes but coach mac made him drop one…..told him he could get it in the spring, in the fall, he needs to concentrate on doing good in his classes, and on the field. if he wasn’t playing as much, he could’ve kept the other class…but it is a grind……long days for him.

but he loves it….shoot man, he’s living his dream…..what price can you put on that?

  53. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER November 1, 2008 5:39 am

    Prayers for JJ’s mom…

Sounds priceless to me. I’m glad to hear he’s doing so well. Wish I had put in that many hours studying, I made have made something of myself. lol

  56. wafan November 1, 2008 5:42 am

I hope JJ’s mom is doing okay in Portland. Good thoughts and prayers for her and the family.

Actually, you’ll have to tell Stretch to get out of the way. Stretch, myki and sjmacro usually get there before me. I’m in traffic while I take my son to school. By the way, he started playing some old-school music, and now I can’t get “Tricky” out of my head.

  58. Bulla November 1, 2008 5:43 am

    lava

it all comes down to time management, and they learn quick about accountability.

he is doing good, but in flagstaff after the game…..funny. he comes out of the locker room with jeans, a t shirt, and his collared shirt….all good right? no, he’s wearing ‘crocs’, and by the way, it is 32 degrees outside…..take the kid out of hawaii, but can’t take the hawaii out of the kid…..cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooooooooo

    Good Morning Coach Bulla!

I survived Halloween out here on the ceded lands…fireworks and all! There were so many ‘incoming’ bottle rockets at one point, I told Mrs. K that we need to build a *bunker* instead of a storage shed in the back yard! This was just Halloween! Wait until Christmas & New Years!!

Today, the Beast will be providing the fireworks! Give him my best as I know that boy is gonna light it up today!

Go Snow Beast (oh..and Wild Cats too!)

  71. Kekoa November 1, 2008 6:11 am

Have a good one today ST…we’ll be checking you out from Hawaii Kai’s Therapy Sports Grill. Might even take a survey of the peeps there to see who their favorite sports writer is. If Ferd wins, we may have to advise you to take the buy-out from HA.

Look at it this way ST, there’s always room for you as a Lounge singer. Using a real Lion in your act could pay big dividends (or big insurance money for Wena). Remember, you have one less hour to think about it on your way home.

  72. brew808 November 1, 2008 6:16 am

bulla and the others of you out there, look out for some of the other player’s family members.
on the SportsHawaii forum, a few of them said they’d try to get together.

  78. chawan_cut November 1, 2008 7:13 am

Stephen is a music afficianado. or maybe just a big fan of Paula Abdul.
i particularly like her “Opposites Attract” song.
oh, and the Cold Hearted Snake one too or maybe the music video.

i think at the next K-call we’ll have to queue up RunDMC’s “Tricky”. Imagine the dance moves to go with that one!

  79. brew808 November 1, 2008 7:14 am

Eh whitey – Halloween is pau. Any comments on direct flights on Alaska Air between Anchorage and Kahului? Do we need to declare the salmon and halibut endangered species now? 😀

Wish him well.

    karma?

  85. whitey November 1, 2008 7:58 am

brew, going start up this month. going get plenty of snowbirds who make maui their part time home. they work here for about 5 months, then return to the north for 7. no worry about the salmon and halibut cause there was plenty of snow pack from last spring, so have more snow, then constant stream flow which is excellent for the frys. i was going to try the direct, but am going to SoD for pheasants. the salmon issue in CA, OR, and WA is another problem which is basically human related, not environment.

Getting ready to go to Sports Therapy for some Tsaiko-therapy. Moving in slo-mo this morning. *yawn* . See you guys there.

  89. Addahknowsports November 1, 2008 8:02 am

    Go Warriors!!!

  90. whitey November 1, 2008 8:02 am

ok, for those on Maui who have no place to watch the game, we going be at Starlite which is located under the Puuone Towers on the opposite end of Tokyo Tei around 9 am. i don’t know what “breakfast” will be like, but it could be post trick or treat.

  91. Rick HS November 1, 2008 8:03 am

Getting out all the food along with some balsamic vinegar for booze…all to eat while listening to the UH game on the radio, and it has to last until the free telecast on tv is over later tonight

  92. Hoohiki November 1, 2008 8:06 am

Duffer, where exactly is Starlite Lounge? Hoping to watch the game with you guys, even for just a little while.

  93. Nalani November 1, 2008 8:07 am

Getting ready for the game. Feed the puppies, make coffee. Aulani plays soccer at 10:30am so I’m gonna watch the first quarter and then tape the rest ’til I get home.

Was tempted to fly to Maui and watch w Duffer and Whitey just for the hospitality! Howzit guys!

Kudos to the team who will be on the road for about a week and a half. Kahai is taking advantage of the time they’re away by sleeping in, resting his body, and catching up on homework. It must be very hard on the guys that travel, just to keep up with everything. Blessings to them.

Hope they play well today, and keep the injury bug away!

  94. Hoohiki November 1, 2008 8:07 am

Thanks, Whitey, just saw your post.

  95. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:10 am

Hope you folks enjoy your “Therapy” session….

we’ll be @ home cheering with you. 🙂

  96. Rick HS November 1, 2008 8:11 am

I’ve been thinking about it…not easy to do. How would JJ have done this season if he had stayed at UH? Under the circumstances, doesn’t seem like he could have done any better. UH lost at Florida and Oregon State as expected. The San Jose State loss was the exception…should have won that one. However, the upsets of Fresno State and Nevada more than make up for it. UH is doing OK at this point with a winning season a good possiblility. GO WARRIERS!!!

  97. Ronnie November 1, 2008 8:13 am

    IT’S SATURDAY!!!!

    Good Morning Tsaiko Family!!!

    Yee Haw!

  98. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:13 am

P-sausage/cheese omellette is just a memory already.

Still thinking about what to snack on while watching da game….

  99. brew808 November 1, 2008 8:15 am

Question – Does Kahai get together with his teammates to watch the Warrior road games? 😕

  100. koakane™ November 1, 2008 8:15 am

d1 get together for sunday coffee hour prayer conference?

  101. whitey November 1, 2008 8:17 am

    hoohiki, sounds good.

  102. brew808 November 1, 2008 8:18 am

d1島 – I would suggest leftovers – but I suppose there’s no such thing at your house! 😀

    Hiya Ronnie! 😀 😯 😆

  103. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:18 am

    koakane,

    Sounds like a plan.
Let all the others know when you get to the Eassai…

  104. whitey November 1, 2008 8:20 am

  105. las vegas November 1, 2008 8:23 am

    cough cough hackkkk cough

  106. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:23 am

    brew808,

    Howzit!
Actually Mrs.d1島 is still trying to get used to adjusting the meal sizes so usually get plenny…

Well, Linfield should be off the bus by now and going thru pre-game now.
Hoping they can rebound from last week’s disappointment.

Linfield is one win away from clinching its 53rd consecutive winning season…the Wildcats can extend their own all-divisions national record with a win on Saturday…the streak began in 1956 under late coach (and former UH AD) Paul Durham.… the Wildcats’ streak of winning seasons spans six decades and the terms of 11 U.S. presidents

  107. whitey November 1, 2008 8:24 am

time to get the space craft warmed up and moving cause have to travel far to get to big city. GO WARRIORS!!!!!

  108. Ronnie November 1, 2008 8:25 am

las vegas – So sorry to hear about your BrondchitiS! 😀 😯 😆

  110. Jason November 1, 2008 8:26 am

Good morning, all! Too bad I won’t be able to watch the game, let alone listen to a good portion of it. Let’s see how those text message updates are … 🙂

  119. brew808 November 1, 2008 8:33 am

Along the lines of BS – how can Minn be #17 and Lansing guys be #21? The big 10 simply has too much pull – IMHO. Wow – touchdown Wishconsin! Big deal…. 😈 😯 😈

  121. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 8:34 am

    Game Day!

Was anyone able to find an alternative “source” to watch today’s game? Or is it looking like we’ll have to buy Utah State’s stream for $10?

That is, those of us who don’t have ESPN360.com access, ESPN GamePlan, or Altitude Sports Network.

  122. chawan_cut November 1, 2008 8:35 am

for those of you that missed it on thursday (for homey, etc…)

  124. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:39 am

    brew,
So a 10 yd TD run qualifies as “buckaloose” in da big(?) 10…. 🙄

  125. FloridaTedAlohaWarlock November 1, 2008 8:40 am

    Morning, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.

    IT’S GAME DAY, YEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!

For all Mainland Tsaikos, from yesterdays blog :

By accident I’ve found an obscure sports channel on my TV, that is carrying the UTAH STATE game FREE. It’s called BHSN Catch 47. Check with your cable provider if they have it (maybe under a different name).

I was very surprised to get this game on a channel I’ve never heard of, way out on the south-east coast. They normally show a lot of obscure sports and sometimes ESPN News.

Check it out, you may have it and not know it. Regardless, I’m very happy and ready to go !!!!

    SICK’UM, WARRIORS !!!

  126. las vegas November 1, 2008 8:43 am

    Brew,
    “Dr. note” written in crayon”

the only doc available was one pediatrician, and thats my story

p.s. the back side had that obnoxious monkey from “Dora”

I stayed in most of the lines during coloring , so I taped it to the fridge!

  127. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:44 am

    Howzit Florida Ted,

Congrats and Good Luck on your book endeavor

  128. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:46 am

    Au–ryte!
My journey to the “frozen tundra” of da freezer was rewarded with the discovery of a half a bag of chicken nuggets!

I now have pupu on da way 😀

  129. brew808 November 1, 2008 8:48 am

Have to admit, there’s clearly a move to the spread, passing offense in the big 10. I wonder if playing UH in recent years influenced this trend? Hey – we could ask John L. about it…. Oh wait – he’s gone….. 😀

    Fl-Ted – “BHSN Catch 47” really is an obscure sports channel…. 😆

  130. d1島: November 1, 2008 8:56 am

Info on today’s broadcast from USU website.

    http://utahstateaggies.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/103108aab.html

Saturday’s broadcast of the Utah State-Hawai’i football game on Altitude (Comcast Ch. 61 in Cache Valley) will be delayed 30 minutes from the 1 p.m. kickoff and will be joined in progress at 1:30 p.m.

The delay is due to a scheduling conflict with Altitude. The game will also be on ESPN Regional as well as ESPN360.com.

  131. duffer November 1, 2008 8:56 am

    Nalani,

    You got mail!

    Good Luck to Aulani!

  132. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 9:02 am

    GREAT SATURDAY TSAIKO NATION:

Good Luck to our WARRIORS and Weber St.

D1 – Thanks for the heads up on the delay on Altitude. Guess we have to watch the first 30 min on ESPN360.

    15 more minutes….GO WARRIORS!!!

  133. A-House November 1, 2008 9:03 am

    Merv:

You know that I was only joking when I posted that Florida was going to win.

I actually went with Georgia and put down some kala ($) last time I was in Vegas that Georgia would win the national championship.

    GO DAWGS ——- GO WARRIORS

    15 minutes to kick off!

  134. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:05 am

Hi Rich – How come ST didn’t twist your arm to get you to join him in Utah? Oh yeah, no more “tables” in Utah…. 😀 😯 😆

  135. FloridaTedAlohaWarlock November 1, 2008 9:09 am

Hi, d1, thanks. Long way to go still.

    Brew808,

It is, but what luck that I’ve found it.

  136. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 9:11 am

    I Halloween over?

  137. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:11 am

Broke down and bought the Utah State stream since I don’t have any of the other options referenced upstream.

Stream quality is ok. Right now the band is doing their pre-game show. Romney Stadium looks REALLY, REALLY empty by the looks of it.

I wonder what the anticipated attendance for today’s game is gonna be?

  138. d1島: November 1, 2008 9:11 am

    Rich,

You’re welcome. Hope you are able to watch w/out problems.
Heck, with Oceanic’s track record, I hope I’m able to watch it w/ no problems! 👿

  139. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 9:12 am

FlaTed: Congrats and good news to arrive in time for an early xmas gift????

Ronnie – I may not be able to make it on Monday. Too much work to get done this week, plus I may land a huge job w/ my buddy who produced “300”. He wants his participation statements on about 10 films audited. This could keep me busy for 3-5 years. LOL. Forgot to text you, but I rolled a 246 Tuesday night.

HI LIZ, BREW, CCR, CC, DUFFER, WHITEY, D1, “SICK” BOY VEGAS, DPK, A-JOE/A-SPORTS, KEKOA, BULLA and everyone else on this fine day!!!

  142. Jason November 1, 2008 9:16 am

Before I have to go — Happy National College Football Day everyone! (Yeah, I’m serious.)

  143. TChahng[대한민국] November 1, 2008 9:16 am

Call me diehard. Went to bed at 23:35hrs and woke up at 02:30, jumped in a taxi to get to my office in Seoul. Why??? My DSL modem at my apartment went belly-up on me. I’m at my office listening to 1420 streaming for a 04:00 (Korea) kickoff. No worries, it’s Sunday morning, no work till Monday!

    Go Warriors!!!

  144. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 9:17 am

Brew – I just mentioned that to Margo this morning that he didn’t “urge” me to go to Utah. He wants me to travel to NMS, but I don’t know. So much to do this week.

That’s odd – I’m watching the WVU/Conn game on Altitude and it shows 7:31 left in the 4th. ESPN360 is also showing it and it shows 8:33. Talk about a DELAY!! LOL

  145. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:18 am

    TChahng,

    Talk about committed!!! 🙂

  146. d1島: November 1, 2008 9:19 am

    TChahng[대한민국],

    Whoa! Nutz!
No mo 360 wea you stay?

  147. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:20 am

    A refresher:

For 10 clams, here’s the Utah State streaming video for the game:

    http://www.stretchinternet.com/utahstschedule.html

  148. Ronnie November 1, 2008 9:21 am

    hmmm…. 12:02 and no ESPN360 feed yet…

Rich, I say GO to NMSU. We need all the Tsaiko support we can get for our boys!

  149. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 9:22 am

I’m getting the Utah State anouncers and feed, they’re actually not bad.

    Hey, but who’s complaining?

  150. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 9:23 am

    What the heck…no 360 feed yet….

  151. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:23 am

Aggies get the ball to start.

The Utah State stream is using the USU Radio Network for audio.

  152. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 9:24 am

Okay. Bobby C & RK still talking. No kickoff yet. They mentioned it is a sellout.

  153. d1島: November 1, 2008 9:25 am

    expected attendance of 6000!

  154. TChahng[대한민국] November 1, 2008 9:25 am

No moa 360. No can access my ESPN GamePlan International account. The net Nazis have all these blocks and firewalls up but I can still get channelsurfing.net. Too bad no moa dis game on justinTV.

  155. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 9:25 am

    Thanks, Rich.

  156. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 9:26 am

    360 feed on….finally

  157. d1島: November 1, 2008 9:26 am

    Opps.
Bobby and Robert mo’ fast then the TV again.
    Sorry Arbitron!

  158. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:26 am

    USU on offense.

  159. d1島: November 1, 2008 9:28 am

Hawaii needs to propose a ban on TE’s

  160. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:28 am

Aggies going to the air early and they’re moving the ball.

  161. Ronnie November 1, 2008 9:30 am

Yikes! Utah State doesn’t play like a 1-7 team.

  162. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:31 am

Aggies going for it on 4th and 1…..

    And get it.

  163. d1島: November 1, 2008 9:32 am

Like Kekaula says (and I’m sure he is right now), IDK why teams try to run wide on UH

  164. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:34 am

Aggies get a FG out of the opening drive.

  165. Ronnie November 1, 2008 9:34 am

That “First Down” cheer is so annoying.

Of course, it may not be as annoying if we did it at the stadium…

And yikes about not getting the sack…

  166. Ronnie November 1, 2008 9:36 am

Ok, that was weird. Posts appeared and then disappeared.

  167. d1島: November 1, 2008 9:37 am

    Sorry,
    the blog is too slow.

    See you after the game…

  168. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:39 am

    Nice run by Libre!

  169. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:41 am

Attitude final is online – nice run by Libre. Clock shows 6:30 😀

  170. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:41 am

    …finally…

  171. 99club November 1, 2008 9:42 am

I just discovered the game on the Altitude Network, Dish channel 410!

  172. 99club November 1, 2008 9:44 am

    Pass it to Mouton!!!

  173. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:45 am

Alexander probably doesn’t have a good ladder drill time. It’s more of a lumbering time…Go Warriors!!! OL is not moving anyone. 😆

  174. 99club November 1, 2008 9:45 am

Alexander’s big enough for a QB sneak….oh, well.

  175. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:47 am

Hey 99 – The game is on Attitude! Dang! Empty drive! 😈

  176. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:47 am

Kelly misses the 25-yd FG attempt.

    Aggies lead 3-0.

  177. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:48 am

Yeah D! We need a blocked kick! 😀

  178. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 9:48 am

    owwww wayyyy!

    iiii suuusss

    🙁 🙁 🙁

    brrdadadadada

    c’mon Warriors!!!!

  179. conor November 1, 2008 9:49 am

How do we not score there? ughh

  180. conor November 1, 2008 9:50 am

Nice D! Lets just get it into the endzone this time. We’ve GOT to be able to push the ball in for a yard if we want to beat Utah State

  181. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 9:50 am

i heard the big hit, but all the camera showed me was the coach on the sideline. 🙁

  182. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:51 am

    BLIND officials! 😈

  183. conor November 1, 2008 9:51 am

    once again horrible officiating…

  184. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 9:53 am

please no tell me da officials are supah junk.

dats twice. Salas just got tackled before he even had a chance and what did the officials do?

chad referees. we get chaddy referees.

  185. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 9:54 am

End of the 1st. Aggies lead 3-0.

    What are the officials, blind?

  186. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:55 am

BHF2 – yeah…. but the ball was 3 yds too long…. sad when RK has to get the rules “interpreted” by BC…. 😈

  187. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 9:56 am

Three straight runs up the middle? Come on !! We can do better then that? Good D, I think we have adjusted, now punch it in !!

  188. conor November 1, 2008 9:56 am

Well first quarter over Utah State 3-0…Warriors will have it 3rd and 10 on their own 9 yrd. line….defense looking good, offense has had 1 drive, looked very good. However still a bit frustrating…we’re CLEARLY better then Utah State.

  189. djmitcho November 1, 2008 9:57 am

Good game day all! CRW, I’m watching that utah state feed on stretchinternet too, but im listening to 1420 online, and the radio feed is a bit quicker than the video stream.

  190. brew808 November 1, 2008 9:59 am

FL-Ted – you seem to be delayed…. Great (not)! Now all the yellow flags are being thrown EVERYWHERE! 😈 😈 😈

  191. djmitcho November 1, 2008 10:00 am

damn, if farmer doesnt fall down, he gets a first down

  192. conor November 1, 2008 10:00 am

guys hate to be so negative but we’re killing ourselves w/ penalties.

  193. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:01 am

Now the USU announcers want a late hit flag! Kick coverage needs to tighten up! 🙄

  194. djmitcho November 1, 2008 10:01 am

i guess, the refs are trying to get someone hurt today.

  195. conor November 1, 2008 10:01 am

on a 3rd and 15 why run the ball with farmer? He’s more of a goaline- pound it guy. If Libre was in he would of gotten the first down.

  196. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 10:02 am

Darned, the gun is pointed at our own feet again ! Come on boys, get your mojo on !!

  197. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:02 am

Back from the twilight zone. Computer went nuts w/ all the open windows. Looks like the refs evened out the “late” non-call hits. Geez. That was not holding on #51. Geez.

    COME ON D

  198. las vegas November 1, 2008 10:03 am

we really need to upgrade the O-line next year

  199. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 10:03 am

USU radio guys were saying that the same thing happened with one of their guys w/r/t the late hit thingy….so when Spencer Smith layed that hit on the Aggie, they didn’t think a penalty should be assessed.

And luckily, a penalty WASN’T assessed.

  200. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:03 am

    Yeah Dowling! INT 😆

  201. djmitcho November 1, 2008 10:03 am

    int UH! woohoo

  202. djmitcho November 1, 2008 10:03 am

  203. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 10:05 am

    “Inookee Foonookee”

    Bwahahaha!!!!

    He got it right now.

  204. conor November 1, 2008 10:05 am

    Interception by Dowling!!!! LETS GO

  205. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:06 am

    Rich – Try Attitude! 😀

Let’s go Warriors! Drive them Aggies into the ground! Inoke’s turn…. 😀

  206. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:07 am

    “FIRST DOWN WARRIORS! 😆

  207. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:09 am

Brew – I’ve got it on. I had the blog open, 1420, and 360. I guess all the quick “refreshes” didn’t make the ‘puter happy. LOL.

  208. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:10 am

Wow – those 65 fans booing the pass interference call sure is intimidating….Come-on Funaki! 😈

  209. conor November 1, 2008 10:11 am

Mouton having a tough time on O

  210. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:12 am

    Ice-man…. 🙁

  211. conor November 1, 2008 10:12 am

Another blocked kick…we look like sh*t…

  212. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:13 am

Rich – You probably shouldn’t be running your Excel spreadsheets at the same time too! Alohas to (((Margo)))! 😀

  213. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:14 am

What the hell is up w/ the o-line? oh crap….long td pass on busted coverage.

  214. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:14 am

YIKES! Warriors are going to have to fight back! 😈 😈 😯

  215. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 10:15 am

Busted coverage on that TD pass.

    10-0 Aggies.

  216. conor November 1, 2008 10:15 am

Utah State 10-0…first play, deep pass for a TD…this is tough to watch

  217. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 10:16 am

Can we, please, stop this platoon “system” and stick with Alex and let him get into a rythm?

His runs are not the prettiest, but very effective. Let him play already, at least he can find receivers.

There must be a turf monster, players are falling down, with nobody around.

  218. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:17 am

Stands look pretty empty for a sell-out.

  219. conor November 1, 2008 10:17 am

Not so sure what our coaches are doing…now is the time when they have to step up and start getting in the o-lines faces…i mean utah state…really Coach Mac?

  220. 99club November 1, 2008 10:19 am

    Hang on to the ball!

  221. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:20 am

The receivers have to finish those plays! 😈

  222. 99club November 1, 2008 10:20 am

    Ryan!

  223. 99club November 1, 2008 10:21 am

  229. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:23 am

I’m thinking the o-line coach (smith?) isn’t doing his job. YEAH! TD UH!!

  230. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:23 am

Lot’s of time by the OL…. nice pass AND catch! TD Warriors – Kicking game/penalties SUCK!!! 😈

  231. conor November 1, 2008 10:24 am

    finally TD…loosens the nerves c’mon D!

  232. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:25 am

O-LINE NEEDS DISCIPLINE ON ALL DOWNS!!!!! Come on guys!

  233. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:25 am

  234. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 10:25 am

    HOW ABOUT DAT!!!

    GOOOO WARRIORS!!!!!

  235. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 10:27 am

That’s the way, Alex !! That looked like a Colt Brennan pass. That’s what we’re talking about..

    We now have a R’n’S QB, let’s be a R’n’S team, PLEASE !!

  236. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 10:29 am

    rich2176

we’re on the same page, bradda, the same page!

c’mon coaches. work your squads! c’mon Smitty!!!

  237. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:29 am

Lucky bounce! You know it’s a small crowd when you can hear individual voices….

    Come-on D! 😯

  238. wafan November 1, 2008 10:29 am

    Yeah D!

  239. al November 1, 2008 10:30 am

kia has as many penalties as the rest of his oline fellows combined and estes is second.

can’t blame the coaches for that. individually each one has to get it done mentally. our problem is that we don’t have any backups to take their places.

  240. wafan November 1, 2008 10:31 am

LizK must have gone shi-shi on the last Warrior series.

  241. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:32 am

You know it’s a small crowd when you can hear individual voices….Or you’re listening to a Farrington game!

  242. djmitcho November 1, 2008 10:32 am

    wafan..LOL

  243. LizKauai (iPhone) November 1, 2008 10:33 am

Hiya! blogging from Brenda and Paulie’s house.

  244. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:33 am

Al, there is NO EXCUSE for two blocked FG attempts and countless false starts this year. Coaches need to kick okole and get the message across. But you’re right, there’s not much depth.

  245. conor November 1, 2008 10:34 am

    D is having a tough time…

  246. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:35 am

Hiya Liz – Did you see what wafan said about you?

Some one needs to WHACK this QB!!! 😈 😆

  247. conor November 1, 2008 10:37 am

We were clearly not prepared for this game

  248. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:39 am

    Awesome hit by Veikune!!! 😆

  249. las vegas November 1, 2008 10:41 am

    UH looks sloppy and lethargic

    Team needs to ignite

  250. djmitcho November 1, 2008 10:42 am

Coach Mack needs to get this team fired up at Half.

  251. BowsForever November 1, 2008 10:42 am

Another GA is gonna lose his laptop at halftime. And it doesn’t have to be this way.

Get it together, Warriors! Also, I hear penalties being called on certain numbers way, way too often. If only we didn’t have injury problems, you really have to wonder if some players would be benched more.

  252. conor November 1, 2008 10:42 am

If coach Mac can not turn this around the second half…then I dont know if i’ll ever have confidence in him again. Its really a joke that we’re loosing this game…we’re THAT much better then this 1-7 Utah State team…

  253. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:43 am

Dang! Very disappointing half of football against a very poor 1-7 team! Unless the team starts playing (much), ST can pass out some of his extra 2-ply TP instead of “game-balls”…. 😈 😯 🙄

  254. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:44 am

    ….playing (much),better…. 😯

  255. GGma November 1, 2008 10:46 am

we are going to see them sit up and take notice in this half .
We are going to whip some arse
    Warriors prove me right

  256. 99club November 1, 2008 10:46 am

Ahhhh, to be a fly on the wall in our locker room right now. Some okole chewin’ goin’ on for sure.

  257. PONO November 1, 2008 10:46 am

The O Line is such a disappointment. Too many holding and Personal fouls!!!!!!GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  258. al November 1, 2008 10:47 am

i don’t think its preparation. its mental toughness, discipline, etc.

i think a good half time laptop breaking talk will clear things up.

we should be ahead at this point if not for the mental miscues. we gotta stop taking usu for granted and get our selves going. we are not being beaten physically, its all mental.

individuals need to make up their minds that they will play responsibly on every down. clear that up and we should be kicking butt all over the field.

mack should walk in to the locker room and start tossing water coolers, laptops, furniture, and getting directly up and personal into certain individual players faces.

the plan is there we aren’t being beaten by usu. we are beating ourselves. eh, if a certain tackle keeps making mental errors, take him out already. put ah soon back in or give hisatake a piece of the action.

  259. al November 1, 2008 10:47 am

  260. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 10:49 am

Even though we’re playing quite sloppy, let’s not forget that they almost, actually should have, beaten Fresno State. These Utah State kids can play, they just haven’t learned how to win yet. Let’s hope they don’t learn it against us. I hope they leave Alex in for the rest of the game, he’s shown me plenty of consistency.

We just need to tighten up a few things, play with more concentration and we SHOULD be fine.

  261. A-House November 1, 2008 10:49 am

    Defense:

UH continues the disturbing trend of giving up first downs on 3rd and long yardage. Happens every game. Some say “bend, but no break”. Its the trend that is worrisome.

Yes, UH beat Nevada while giving up many of these, but why are the players losing focus and allowing receivers to become wide open.

Unless there is a significant change of fortune, UH may very well lose to Utah St. Let’s hope this happens!

  262. 99club November 1, 2008 10:51 am

    GGma-

I agree…we’re going to turn this around in a big way!

  263. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:51 am

FlaTed: You got your wish. Mac said he’s sticking w/ GA in the 2nd half and using Inoke in certain situations.

Even though Utah is 1-7, they almost pulled off the upset against Fredneck last week. (Or is it Freakno?) At least our D is still busting chops.

I like the announcers on Altitude. No homer announcers like we usually get on GamePlan.

  264. A-House November 1, 2008 10:53 am

    al and others:

I told Mrs A-House that my one hope for next year is that other O-line players step-up so the Warriors don’t have so many mental errors.

Her response was that they are not professionals. My thought is that if you are playing for UH, then you must giveway to another who is stronger, faster, more discplined, etc. Nothing with personal.

  265. wafan November 1, 2008 10:53 am

    d1 . . .

Try this one. If you like full orchestras, that is.

  266. A-House November 1, 2008 10:54 am

Is UH O-line coach afraid to take players out? If so, then there will be many close games and losses.

  267. wafan November 1, 2008 10:57 am

    Brew . . .

    Thanks. I think.

I do not need any additional help getting myself in trouble. Good thing she will, hopefully, have forgotten by next summer or football season.

On the other hand, as a scientist you know that a hypothesis should be tested and proven. There is only one way to do that. She will have to stay in there for the rest of the games. That way we will have proved it either way.

Dang. I think I got myself in deep now.

  268. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 10:59 am

wafan re#265 – SWEET! I’ve seen those guys in person a couple of times. So much energy and very entertaining.

  269. brew808 November 1, 2008 10:59 am

An observation (and not meant to sound like “piling-on”) – same OL players that have been penalized and criticized for on/off field attitude/respect issues, continue to make the same mental errors. There doesn’t seem to be ANY improvement. 😡

  270. brew808 November 1, 2008 11:02 am

wafan – No worries…. I’ll keep reminding her of your trouble-making and name-callling… over and over and over!

    Let’s GO WARRIORS!!! 😀 😯 😆

  271. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:02 am

Well, I don’t know anything about the respect or off-the-field stuff, but I _do_ know I’ve gotten quite familiar with certain numbers being called on the O-line. I don’t think it’s piling on, I think it’s perfectly fair criticism.

  272. wafan November 1, 2008 11:02 am

    Go Lane!!!

  273. brew808 November 1, 2008 11:04 am

Another observation – (most) passes from Alexander are “catchable” and in rhythm so the receivers can get some YAC! 😯 😀 😯

  274. LizKauai (iPhone) November 1, 2008 11:04 am

had a great halftime show from Kymry. Lessee if coach mack launched another piece of equip. In the locker room. Warriors come out fired up!

  275. TChahng[대한민국] November 1, 2008 11:05 am

    Yoda!!!

  276. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 11:05 am

  277. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:05 am

  278. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:06 am

    Whoops…

  279. wafan November 1, 2008 11:06 am

  282. conor November 1, 2008 11:06 am

  285. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:07 am

another great drive killed by self inflicted mistake

  286. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:07 am

There’s something about pitches and shovels that do NOT get results for Hawaii, generally speaking. And you’re calling it for someone other than “Mr. Option”? So why do it?!

  287. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:08 am

Your destiny is in your hands, Warriors. I really don’t have anything else to say.

  288. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:08 am

Just like the Boise game – WARRIORS get the 2nd half kick off and turn the ball over after a great drive. OYE!!

  289. conor November 1, 2008 11:09 am

I dont get why we cant just get the ball in the endzone

  290. wafan November 1, 2008 11:10 am

    dj . . .

Remember that Wazzu joke you told the other day about the white substance?

    Substitute Hawai’i instead.

    Geez. This is sad.

  291. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 11:10 am

Rich, I was just gonna say that. I hope things don’t start to steamroll downwards in the rest of the second half.

  292. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:11 am

wafan – I was just thinking the same thing….LOL

  293. brew808 November 1, 2008 11:12 am

Interference????!!!!!! That should be a personal foul! 😈

  294. wafan November 1, 2008 11:12 am

    What?!?!?!?!?!

Really? A call against USU? Huh? Did the officials make another mistake?

  295. conor November 1, 2008 11:13 am

Is that the first penalty called on the Aggies…i think so

  296. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:13 am

Well, time for another green bottle. This is “exciting”!

  297. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:13 am

OK, I lied, I do have more to say.

Maybe it’s just me, but unless we’re talking Funaki, an option pitch just short of the end zone (where absolutely no one drops back in coverage) is too fancy for a pure passer QB like Alexander, who’s still very inexperienced to boot. At least with the running game you get somewhat better ball security and a field goal chance.

  298. TChahng[대한민국] November 1, 2008 11:14 am

    I miss Shawn Withey-Allen, best option QB in JJ’s R & S.

  299. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:16 am

It’s getting increasingly important that Hawaii score something, anything this quarter. Otherwise, it’s SJSU all over again.

  300. wafan November 1, 2008 11:16 am

Hmmmm. 1420 cutting out and in. Hopefully not out at a crucial time.

  301. brew808 November 1, 2008 11:17 am

    several drops by #1 😈

  302. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:17 am

Okay, 2 drops by Salas. Come on guys….CONCENTRATE!!

  303. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:17 am

Can still hear it online. Dropped pass by Salas. 3rd and 10.

  304. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:18 am

Time to punt. If the D can’t generate turnovers, game over man. This lack of team cohesion really makes me wonder sometimes.

  305. brew808 November 1, 2008 11:19 am

    This is 1-7 USU!!! 😈

  306. wafan November 1, 2008 11:19 am

Sounds like receivers are going regressing rather than progressing in their routes.

  307. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:20 am

this game is causing me to eat more than I should….oh wait…that’s the tsaiko way

  308. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 11:21 am

That option pitch wasn’t GA’s fault, Libre looked upfield before he’d secured the ball.

  309. wafan November 1, 2008 11:22 am

WOW! D and punting doing really well. FG is bad. O is Hoover’ing.

  310. 99club November 1, 2008 11:22 am

D is keeping us in it.

  311. brew808 November 1, 2008 11:22 am

  312. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:23 am

Thanks for the clarification FloridaTed. I can only listen to the radio.

  313. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:25 am

somebody put some stick-um on Salas’ hands

  314. 99club November 1, 2008 11:26 am

    We need a turnover!

  315. brew808 November 1, 2008 11:26 am

    Okay – #1 needs a “time-out” to refocus! 😈

  316. al November 1, 2008 11:27 am

    that’s 3

  317. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:27 am

This many dropped balls is unacceptable. GA hesitating in the pocket, same thing. Graunke better have been pretty beat up, because experience counts in tight road games, and it’s starting to show.

  318. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:27 am

Hmmm….where did I put the Tums? At least the play calling is more of what we’re used to. Just too many dropped passes.

  319. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 11:29 am

this team is driving me to drinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    and it aint noon yet….

plus they’re playing dropsy dropsy dropsy.

    dear lord,
make my wish come true. pretty please……

cuz if they lose this game, da problem is they practicing too much haka. gotta practice the lovely hula hands cuz dare hands no can, no can!

c’mon coach Mack, i like see your veins in your neck standing straight out! yell at somebody!!!! nuff playin around already!!!!

  320. wafan November 1, 2008 11:29 am

“How do you do Mr. Football.”

    “Hey.”

“Mr. Salas you are to catch and hold on to Mr. Football.”

    “Huh?”

You sorta have to question Ron Lee now. He’s coached some GREAT WR’s Lelie, Bess, Rivers, RGM etc etc. But lets face it our current WR’s are nowhere NEAR what we’ve had in the past. However, on 3rd and 8 our recievers wont even come back to the QB to help him. To be quit honest they look like crap right now…embarassing.

  322. LizKauai (iPhone) November 1, 2008 11:32 am

  323. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 11:32 am

  324. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:32 am

  330. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 11:36 am

I hope nobody blames GA for this game. The entire O is playing like crap around him again and please don’t forget, the Aggies are much better than their record, remember Fresno State?

    We’re beating ourselves.

  331. wafan November 1, 2008 11:36 am

Geez. We need two TD’s just to win by one — assuming USU does not score again.

    Here comes Funaki.

  332. conor November 1, 2008 11:36 am

20-7 Utah state…we’re gonna loose. This is a BAD BADDD loss for Coach Mac. Can you say hot seat???

  333. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 11:37 am

    😳

i cannot put into words …

  334. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 11:37 am

If we manage to lose this one, this is gonna rank up there with some of the more embarrassing losses in recent program history, such as the Portland State loss in 2000, and perhaps the Florida Atlantic game in ’04.

  336. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:41 am

im not ready to give up on this game yet. stop the self inflicted mistakes and we can still win this game

  337. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 11:42 am

    remind me for next year,…

maybe we gotta resize the under armor; the pads look kinda small.

  338. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 11:44 am

We don’t have to hurry by any stretch, but we gotta make sure we don’t let the Aggies score again.

  339. d1島: November 1, 2008 11:44 am

Tried posting this earlier but had blog problem so sorry if it pops up later…

I can already hear BC saying, “Boy those Utah St. D-ends were pretty ‘sporty’.” 👿

We keep making opposing DE’s look like All-conference players! It’s sickening!

  340. 99club November 1, 2008 11:45 am

We’re going to win this! BELIEVE!

  341. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 11:45 am

Libre is getting off some good runs this drive.

  342. what's wrong November 1, 2008 11:46 am

Funny how all the idiots come out in droves the moment we struggle.
I guess they are not true Warrior fans.
Perhaps their mommies dropped them on their heads when they were babies, cuz, they have not yet grown up.

  343. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 11:46 am

i gonna tell it straight. no holding back, we only got 4 games and the rest of this game.

c’mon coaches. its on you, all of you!!!!

we are way past June Jones, recruiting, getting used to each other. this is all about US now!!!

    Go Warriors!!!! RESPECT YOURSELF.

    MAN UP!!!!!!!!

  344. 99club November 1, 2008 11:47 am

Sun was right in his eyes.

  345. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:48 am

Just saw a shot of Corey Estes in the stands after that drop by Washington. Not looking too pleased….

  346. wafan November 1, 2008 11:48 am

    Geez.

Backward. Maybe they should line up facing the other way. That way every penalty gets them closer to the goal line.

  347. conor November 1, 2008 11:48 am

Whats Wrong: Sorry, typo on my part, what I’m trying to say is that while we dont have the WR talent we’ve had in the past, our recievers cannot be THIS bad. Waaaay too many dropped passes, misread routs, and to be honest i see no hop in they’re step. Coach Lee has got to do something….as im typing this we drop another TD pass in the endzone.

  348. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 11:49 am

    third and 12. i canot see straight…..

  349. 99club November 1, 2008 11:49 am

    Gotta go for it.

  350. TChahng[대한민국] November 1, 2008 11:50 am

    “Looks like some home cooking.”

  351. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:50 am

these refs are killing me…wait they do that every game.

  352. wafan November 1, 2008 11:50 am

    Geez.

  353. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:51 am

Yikes….how could that pass interference not be called? Oh, it was right in front of the ref.

  354. conor November 1, 2008 11:51 am

WOWWW 4TH AND 12 AND YOU GO FOR IT COACH MAC? KICK THE FG, WE NEED POINTS!!

  355. bb November 1, 2008 11:52 am

If we lose better shut down the blog.

The haters will be out in full force, the blame game will be on full speed, the bandwagoners will be hopping off, Fans are going to be calling for coaches heads…..every regular and lurker knows it. I don’t wanna sound pessimistic but knowing how Hawaii fans work, its gonna be bad.

    go warriors

  356. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:52 am

Veikune is an animal. Everybody should take their cue from him

  357. d1島: November 1, 2008 11:52 am

    thank goodness for Veikune’s athleticism

  358. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 11:53 am

    dollar… Alexandah come out.

  359. wafan November 1, 2008 11:53 am

    Come on D and ST!!!

Great field position for the O. Will they do it this time?

    The suspense is building.

  360. conor November 1, 2008 11:54 am

well Veikune showed up to play…

  361. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:54 am

Refs help Utah, but so does Hawaii.

After a good punt return by Bain, Hawaii has only 37 yards to score. Are the Warriors the team I thought they were?

  362. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 11:54 am

I’m so pissed right now, I don’t know what to say. You send in Funaki as the savior ? He can’t find his receivers when it counts. This one is on the coaches all the way. He missed the open receiver three times in a row. Man, am I frustrated !!!! O.K. calm down Ted, it’s only a game, right?

  363. what's wrong November 1, 2008 11:54 am

    conor
Okay then. I do agree with all the dropped balls today at least 6 of them.

  364. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 11:54 am

    conor,

I was wondering about the 4th and 12 call as well, but I can also see how kicking a FG at that point wasn’t going to be of much help. It would still be a two possession game.

Looks like we have excellent field position on the Aggie 36 to start the next drive. We HAVE to score a TD here.

  365. BowsForever November 1, 2008 11:55 am

bb – If the Warriors lose, there _is_ blame to go around. You can support the team and still tear your hair out over a total team loss.

  366. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 11:55 am

    Green bottle, tums, repeat….

Let’s sustain a drive, hold on to the ball and score. WARRIORS can do it!! Let’s go!!!

  367. djmitcho November 1, 2008 11:56 am

    finally Salas catches 1

  384. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 12:01 pm

Some stadium shots on the Utah State feed. Looks like a decent crowd showed up at Romney Stadium. Nowhere near a sell-out, though.

  385. brew808 November 1, 2008 12:02 pm

    PSU 7, Weber State 31, start of 4Q 😀

  386. Esme November 1, 2008 12:02 pm

    Let’s go, Warriors, let’s go!

  402. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 12:12 pm

    conor,

In retrospect, maybe we should have kicked that FG on the 4th and 12 situation earlier in the half.

  403. d1島: November 1, 2008 12:13 pm

    Get the 1st down…
need 2 scores, either order; TD, FG or FG,TD

  404. longboarder November 1, 2008 12:15 pm

Someplace in Honolulu is Tyler Graunke and a T.V. and he’s thinking…

    “i told you so”

  405. mctruck November 1, 2008 12:15 pm

I was wondering why we didn’t go for that short fg earlier??

wonder how we gonna do against NMS?

  406. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 12:15 pm

So, how idiotic does it look now to let Funaki drive us to nothing?

They look like the road teams of old. The coaches have to take 50 % of the blame for this one, the rest is on half the offense sleep walking. We need a miracle.

Oh, well, I still love my Warriors, no matter what.

    We better beat NMSU.

  407. XxFaithxX November 1, 2008 12:16 pm

    Its ova…USU…WTF?

  408. conor November 1, 2008 12:17 pm

I love Hawaii football, I am not a “bandwagon” fan. But this type of game is totally uncalled for. Everyone from our WR’S, to our o-line, to special teams, played like sh*t. However, the people really at fault, in my opinion, are the coaches. McMackin CLEARLY go outcoached. Everything from discipline, to playcalling was just a disgrace. While the win verse Fresno St. was big, I have not really been that impressed with coach Mac this year. Again, these are just my feelings. Maybe im venting, maybe im not, all i know that we should NEVER EVER loose to USU and that I want to puke…

  409. XxFaithxX November 1, 2008 12:19 pm

Man oh man, have a lot to vent about, but i’ll chill as I don’t want to agitate others………………………………………..wait, I always got the WSN board lol.

  410. gibu November 1, 2008 12:20 pm

I really think this is way too late to keep rotating quarterbacks. Stick to one guy and get him consistent with the guys hes playing with.

  411. wafan November 1, 2008 12:21 pm

Unfortunately there was only one man ever resurrected from the dead. I just do not see a miracle for the Warriors in this game.

Well. I thought the SJ loss was pretty embarrassing but this one beats that one hands down.

The O should hoof it back to the hotel.

  412. djmitcho November 1, 2008 12:22 pm

UH just lost to a team that was much worse than the team we beat last week. The team needs to regroup on the road this week. Each player needs to look inside of themselves and decide right now if they really want to wear that UH jersey next week.

  413. las vegas November 1, 2008 12:22 pm

lets face it, USU out hustled, out played and just plain wanted to win more than the Warriors.

  414. d1島: November 1, 2008 12:22 pm

That ‘s just par for the course today.
    Wow!

  415. al November 1, 2008 12:22 pm

can’t win if you are a passing team and we drop 8 passes.

alexander will be the qb hereafter, he did his job.
veikune will be borel’s nightmare for awhile.
utah state will be our nightmare for a week.

i hope we are taking out all of our frustrations next week in nmsu.

    (good grief…..lane looses the ball)

  416. brew808 November 1, 2008 12:24 pm

    Wow – THAT kick-off play just about sums up this game & season! 2-8 USU….. 😡 😥 🙁

  417. A-House November 1, 2008 12:26 pm

    This really sucks!!!!!!!!!!1

Players and coaches need to reflect before the next game, make any change necessary, and move forward.

    If no changes, then ………………………

  418. Jake November 1, 2008 12:26 pm

Not much chemistry there. No one to blame but themselves for this loss. Sure, you can blame the refs for the missed calls and the timer for the biased timing. But in the end, you can’t win football games when you don’t believe you can win it. Trap door opened and UH fell right on in.

  419. wafan November 1, 2008 12:27 pm

As much as a lot of people want to say that USU is a bottom feeder and all that garbage what does that say about the Warriors?

Oh well. NMSU is up next! Go Warriors!!! You are not bottom-feeders — they are implying you are worse.

  420. longboarder November 1, 2008 12:27 pm

fan phones are going to be interesting…

i hope craig from kaimuki doesn’t call…i cant stand his calls and his stuttering

better i throw the hate towards other fans than the team.

  421. d1島: November 1, 2008 12:28 pm

    On the bright side. (?)
We could be like merv about now! 😯

  422. al November 1, 2008 12:30 pm

so why aren’t we employing a short passing game?

  423. Postmanke November 1, 2008 12:30 pm

I never like playing these real early games on the road…

  424. wafan November 1, 2008 12:31 pm

    Pomai . . .

My pick for next week — 38 Warriors and 28 NaMaSU.

  425. Hank November 1, 2008 12:31 pm

…give credit to Utah State, they played with a sense of urgency from the beginning to the end…we did not…

    …great game by Veikune…

…Alexander continues to make solid progress…

…i know the Warriors will come out hungry next week…

  426. djmitcho November 1, 2008 12:31 pm

    d1,
    how were the chix nuggets?
how are the wildcats doing today?

  427. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 12:32 pm

That kickoff return that Lane fumbled near the Hawai’i 10 yard line seemed to be the “Icing on the cake” when it comes to describing how this game went for UH.

  428. expat November 1, 2008 12:34 pm

Man that hurts. I think we have to realign our season goals. Maybe “beat Idaho.” Thinking positively though the bowl is still ours to lose and we can still beat two teams from BCS conferences going forward. We will have to beat at least one of them. Cincinnati will be tough. They beat South Florida today.

None of the games are going to be easy, especially with the lack of focus shown on the field at times.

  429. Da Punchbowl Kid November 1, 2008 12:35 pm

    *Tsigh…*

  430. Warrior in Georgia November 1, 2008 12:35 pm

Absolutely pathetic!!! HORRIBLE coaching on every side of the ball and the lack of players emotion as well. WE SHOULD NEVER LOSE TO UTAH STATE, EVER. June had this program where a HIGH SCHOOL STAFF couldn’t screw it up, but they evidently have found a way to do in less than a year. Tyler Graunke should be the qb period!!! No more discussion. Can we get Dan Morrison in here to run the offense please. ONCE AGAIN, absolutely pathetic. I’m a life long Hawaii fan, not a bandwagon one, but this makes me want to throw up and beat the hell out of something.

  431. wafan November 1, 2008 12:38 pm

Someone said it earlier. It is too late in the season to keep switching qbs. Consistency and chemistry are much more important. The opposition is adjusting. It has to be one of the difficulties the Warrior O is having. Well, besides them being seemingly so unfocused at times.

  432. d1島: November 1, 2008 12:39 pm

    djmitcho,

Nuggets were like the Warriors today – mediocre, at best!

Linfield in 3rd Q now. Up 18-14. They are having a Willamette hangover right now 🙁

  433. Da Punchbowl Kid November 1, 2008 12:40 pm

According to the blog clock, we’re posting from the future. Wish I could turn the game clock back.

  434. Justin November 1, 2008 12:41 pm

I hope Mack fires the high school coaches on the staff and puts our best defensive player back on D. No way in hell should we ever lose to Utah State. Get rid of miano, stutz, and ron. Bring in some veteran coaches mack.

  435. al November 1, 2008 12:42 pm

did it appear to you that lane pulled up lame on that return?
    i hope it wasn’t a hammy…….

  436. wafan November 1, 2008 12:42 pm

Okay. I am done complaining and venting about the GAME.

Onward and upward!!! Gosh, I feel like Buzz Lightyear!!!

Looks like Weber won. How did Linfield do?

  437. 99club November 1, 2008 12:42 pm

That was a tough one. I’m still drivin’ out with my son next week to Las Cruces. UH has never lost with that kid in attendance! NM St., Idaho, and WSU to lock up a bowl berth, then upset Cincy at home to cap the regular season. Hang in there WARRIORS!

  438. 99club November 1, 2008 12:44 pm

Pitt and Notre Dame in OT. Before the OT started the sprinklers came on…

  439. wafan November 1, 2008 12:46 pm

    Kymry and Brenda . . .

You can let LizK out of the restroom. Apparently, she is not the problem. That is a good thing to learn. Right?

Wait. Unless, of course, LizK was never in there to begin with. HA!

  440. d1島: November 1, 2008 12:47 pm

    99club,

Right on. The team needs the support!

    wafan,

Linfield just scored to make it 25-17 in the 3rd. They are playing in a funk today at Puget Sound.

  441. GA Warrior November 1, 2008 12:49 pm

I got to tell ya I agree with warrior in Georgia, man how far have we fallen in such a short time, this is the type of game we never (or hardly ever) lost under JJ. We all knew it wasnt going to be easy after last year, but this is TOTALLY unacceptable. I was one of the loudest people calling for Mac to get the job because I believe he was going to keep things the same. Our offensive staff is in way over their head and McMakin is to blame on our QB situtation. How does that he has all the patience in the world for all of the other qbs but not the one who has proven himself. I will say it again, Tyler Gruanke is our QB. Unbelievable, unbelievable…….

  442. djmitcho November 1, 2008 12:49 pm

    d1,
Pirates down 29-21 in the 3rd at PLU

  443. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 12:50 pm

Well, that was embarrassing. But nobody can blame GA for this one. What did I count, 12 dropped passes?

First road game is always the hardest, they will be acclimated for NMSU, we better, we are now truly in must win territory. Hopefully, this loss will embarrass them and get them fired up for the next game. Hawaii had a few games like that and worse in 2005 and see what happened after. The future is very bright and this season is still very salvagable.

This time all the bounces went against us, against Fresno, they all went our way, despite the refs. So, Tsaikos, nobody hang their heads, we’re still going to the Hawaii Bowl, I promise !

But, PLEASE, stop that Funaki platoon thing, or whatever they call it, it’s not working. To make The Bowl, we have to stick with Alex and let him get in sync with the rest of the offense, by golly, they sure need it.

Let’s chalk this up as one of those days and see what happens, one snap and clear, fellow Tsaikos.

  444. wafan November 1, 2008 12:52 pm

    d1 . . .

Linfield is at UPS? Dang. Wish you had said something. I am only 30-40 minutes away from their field. Would have been fun. I have not been to a UPS game in 26 years. Last time I went Frosty Westerling was the UPS coach. His son is not the head coach there.

  445. djmitcho November 1, 2008 12:52 pm

    d1,

pirates now down 29-27. went for 2 didn’t get it

  446. djmitcho November 1, 2008 12:53 pm

    wafan,
frosty was the coach at PLU. His son is the head coach there now.

  447. d1島: November 1, 2008 12:54 pm

    GA Warrior,

this is the type of game we never (or hardly ever) lost under JJ

Glad you put the disclaimer in there – PSU and FAU come to mind.
Not that those losses make this one any more palatable…

  448. wafan November 1, 2008 12:54 pm

    Oops. not = now.

  449. wafan November 1, 2008 12:56 pm

Oops 2. Frosty was the head coach at PLU. His son is now the head coach at PLU.

Dang. I should go find a snack and take a break.

    What djmitcho said.

They will be back up there on 11/15 to play PLU in the season finale (unless, by some miracle, they get an at-large berth in the playoffs)

  452. jm2375 (21) November 1, 2008 1:05 pm

    good afternoon tsaikos!

very disappointing loss. i’m left with a very empty feeling. it’s to the wahine now. one snap and clear. on to NaMaSU.

  453. BowsForever November 1, 2008 1:09 pm

jm2375 – we gotta do our best not to let the loss ruin our weekend.

The Warriors may need to re-examine their interpretation of “one snap and clear”. Sometimes it sticks (special teams improvement). Sometimes the Warriors clear the wrong things from their mind (like remembering how to catch, all the more strange because it was raining like crazy at Nevada). Time to refocus on the fundamentals, and sadly, looks like it goes for the defense, too. When a QB can burn you for that many yards at a time, something needs to be fixed.

  454. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 1:09 pm

99club, great to hear you’ll be bringing the son with you to the NMSU game.

Despite the loss, I’m STILL gonna drive to Las Cruces next week to support the team!

At worst, I had the team splitting this road trip 1-1, HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT THE GAME I HAD THEM LOSING!!!!! They can win next week, but it is apparent that things are gonna have to improve. We’re 3/4 of the way through the season and I can’t believe I’m still saying that. We are also in a position where NMSU is a MUST-WIN game. Lose this one too and not only do we go 0-2 on the long road trip, we would have to win out to get the Hawai’i Bowl berth. Despite getting Cincinnati on the island, they will still be tough, and could potentially run roughshod all over us if we make a ton of mistakes.

  455. XxFaithxX November 1, 2008 1:10 pm

    Coaching = F

    WR = F

    QB = F

    anything else matters?

I’m all for supporting the players, and in some cases off-limits, but the coaches are now fair game.

Stop the QB circus and stick with one. Prep him for next year and IF IS NOT THE ANSWER.

The players seem to have lost all desire to compete…the coaches are constantly changing the offense and adding more to the playbook to the detriment of the team.

    STOP THE MADNESS!!

  456. MattO & JenO November 1, 2008 1:10 pm

    Aiya… haven’t posted for awhile…

we were at the nevada game… now that was inspiring…

too many mistakes today…and the refs certainly didn’t help with their non-calls and “phantom” calls (that’s the benefit of tivo… can replay)…

and i do question the play-calling on offense today… especially when we were on our own 20 w/ 3 minutes left…

but to all those bashing… why? this is the same team that had a terrific road game against fresno… where were you then? and isn’t this the team that gave us the best game of the season last week? where were you then? and do you know how young this team is? how young this coaching staff is in their current positions?

consistency is a problem, yes… but there is greatness there too… and bashing helps no one… if you think you can do a better job, then apply for a coaching position… or if you’re a college student, come here and play… obviously, you think we need you…

and if you’re not willing to do either… or you think, ‘oh wait, i don’t know as much as they do,” then perhaps you should keep your bashing to your living room… and not post it on this blog…

because we love this team… we love their effort… and we don’t appreciate you coming down on them…

    to the tsaikos: keep supporting…

to the haters: shut up or leave…

to the team: shake it off… gut check time… and come and kick New Mexico’s behind… we still love you guys… we still BELIEVE!

  457. Esme November 1, 2008 1:11 pm

Hoooo, boy. WHAT is going on here? I won’t be a fairweather fan, I’m still sticking by our Warriors, but … jeeminy.

I also am with those who’ve said that while playing musical chairs with the QBs in the early part of the season may have been logical since we were still feeling out who was going to be solid in the role … at this point in the season we should have one guy as No. 1. The consistent leadership and familiarity would go a long way toward helping our chemistry and momentum.

    IMHO. Tsigh.

  458. duffer November 1, 2008 1:12 pm

    al,

Lane was shifting the ball from his right to his left when he fumbled.

We got the meaning of that word first hand, mama san said it fits whitey to a T.

Okay! Back from a very light snack of crunchy Cheetos and a diet Coke. Hey, have to cancel out the calories of the Cheetos — that is how my diet works. The diet pop cancels out whatever else I eat. You folks should try it!

I have seen the rest of you Tsai-ko’s. You are already on that diet. Forget I even mentioned it. HA!

  460. XxFaithxX November 1, 2008 1:12 pm

Oh yeah. I was alright with it in a very limited basis, but stop the Mouton experiment!! Why start in the middle of the season??? Should this have not been done in camp??

It shows in that our “D” can’t even stop USU?? How many running QBs have we already faced this year?? We stopped better QBs then USU’s one….come on.

  461. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 1:13 pm

One thing I know now for sure is the reason why this years receivers got so little playing time for three years. This is not a very good crop and if you want to blame somebody, blame JJ for that.

If players don’t execute, you can’t always blame the coaches. Our coaches are good and you all will see a huge turn around next season. We have a bunch of great receivers red shirting this year. We have two good QB’s in the system and more coming in. We will have a better O-Line and the future looks bright all around, don’t let our frustrations get the better of us.

If you asked me, the whole team looked jet-lagged. I’ll reserve judgement until the NMSU game.

And please, everybody, give Utah State some credit, that game against Fresno was no fluke. They’re the best 2 – 8 team I know.

We wanted the bottom of the WAC to raise their Game, well, they did. Idaho will be no push over either. Again, I promise that we will make the Hawaii Bowl.

  462. BowsForever November 1, 2008 1:13 pm

I almost don’t care about the bowl game anymore. Because at the end of the day, all a fan really wants is a team that gives its all every game, a team that plays with fire and fearlessness. What gets me is that I’m just not seeing total team effort in at least two of the season’s losses (SJSU and this game).

Quite honestly, last year’s team had some “total team effort” and consistency problems too, but when you have Colt and the Fab Four, that’s easily compensated for.

  463. BowsForever November 1, 2008 1:17 pm

Utah State definitely deserves credit for a good win, as did SJSU. But it’s _not_ like UH didn’t help both teams’ causes.

  464. al November 1, 2008 1:19 pm

if we are not going to throw to mouton over the middle or deeper routes why bother. i am sure he is as frustrated as anyone else out there.

return him full time to the defense. it was obvious that he gives us a better chance at winning playing defense fulltime and offense on occasion.

its time to bench those who consistently hurt the team with penalties and just go with those who will play unselfishly and with discipline.

its time to put alexander fulltime, sink or swim.

its time to go back to the short passing game which is the run n shoot. that is what we did for years. the yac will come, but, first we gotta get open and catch the ball.

today, i don’t recall a sack given up by the oline. we scrambled when the coverage blanketed our receivers.

but, we cannot play without using our head. penalties are killing us.
dropped balls are the result of poor concentration or lack of physical ability. if so, replace em with someone who can.

too late to worry about hurt feelings on this team.

time to man up to a man.

  465. Postmanke November 1, 2008 1:21 pm

Making the seamless transition from Defensive Coach to Head Coach is almost impossible in this day and age at any level. finding a D coach to make an immediate impact in terms of winning is rare. Its going to take a few years. Even Pete Carroll took a couple years to get going finding a great offensive coordinator to outsource the play calling. Good D coaches make up for it and impact right away in a program by recruiting. i.e. Carroll, Nick Saban. Mac is doing just that. The coming years look bright for UH Football.

However, with the turning economy and budget shortfalls abound I wonder how patient everyone will be given his yearly compensation. -especially since that he does not have to turn around a program – just keep the wheels turning… If I’m coach Lee I’m feeling the pressure – His players dont seem to be too versed in the system. – Thats a big problem for defensive minded coaches.

  466. Kona Girl November 1, 2008 1:26 pm

    Random thoughts:

One of my pet peeves with JJ was that the team never came out on a visitors field “fired up”…they always just sauntered out. I’m seeing that same thing with this team…where’s the fire??? They were hanging their heads even before the first field goal.

One thing that I loved in the past was that Graunke would always be on the sidelines right next to JJ when he was calling a play or discussing a play/strategy with Colt. Today, where the heck was Alexander when Funaki was over talking to Rolo? About 10 players beyond them. If we are going to be switching QB’s all the time, the “non-playing” QB should be working just as hard for the plays from the sideline.

Who the heck is managing the clock and time outs? Is it Lee, is it Mack, is it Rolo???? This needs to really be addressed.

I think they all had too much fun at the hotel reminiscing yesterday. They were not at all focused. I hate playing teams that are supposed to lose, because it never goes that way…

Hope it wakes them up for the next one…

  467. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 1:31 pm

And whoever keeps bringing up Graunke as the savior, stop it already, that story is done.

Alexander should be the QB for the rest of the season and take it from there and give some other O-Line guys some playing time, they can’t be much worse than what we have.

There is still plenty to play for. Don’t rip the coaches and players because of this game. NMSU will be pivotal.

  468. Robbie November 1, 2008 1:32 pm

I haven’t watched as much Warrior football this year, but from what I have seen, this is my basic analysis (comparison) from previous years:

    1) The receivers just aren’t very good at getting open and also in getting YAC. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd looks and no throw is way too typical. I am in NO way questioning their heart and/or work ethic. When you have players moving in from other positions, ala Pilares and Mouton, that’s a sign right there. Even last year, if this years starters were so good, why was Hawthorne switched over from the defense as the “4th receiver”.

    2) The O-line is not as good as previous years. Seems like long ago that Timmy Chang hardly got touched. I guess that TC’s quick release might have been more of a factor also?

I have argued this with the Sports Animals a few weeks back, who kept on what I thought was close to bashing the QB’s. Well, they and Curran said that the OSU corners were NFL bound. Are the Utah St. DB’s also close to that level? And the UH WR’s we have now have for the most part been in the program long enough. When Bess, Grice-Mullins, Rivers, Owens, Komine, Colbert were freshman and sophomores they were more productive and made more yardage on their own. Anyone disagree with this?

Or is Jones really a play-calling genius?

Or have the WAC opponents mastered how to defend the UH offense?

On another note, I still believe that the 06′ team was better than the 07′ team. Just on who they had: Ilaoa, Mauia, S.Satele,Esera, Uperesa, Alama-Francis, Purcell, and Peters. The O-line was definitely better.

  471. Marvin November 1, 2008 1:34 pm

    Stephen,
My question is why do we keep seeing the same receivers out on the field when they aren’t cutting it? Please ask coach Mack why aren’t they giving the other receivers a chance? Receivers like Lofton, Avery and Pollard. I know we don’t only have those 4 horrible receivers we have. I mean they are willing to have our best DB play WR. It is almost like a slap on the face to the other WR. I just hope that we don’t lose any player who leaves the program because the coaches don’t give others a shot or won’t let them play just cause these other players been here longer on the team. Also we need a new OC. Bring Mouse Davis back.

  472. XxFaithxX November 1, 2008 1:36 pm

Please recruit better Safeties too. I cannot believe that we do not have better ones on the roster that we are currently playing. E-Rob is decent, but his buddies on the other side have not pulled their weight. Missed tackles, over running the play, getting faked out, yada yada yada. Miano…where have you been since you have been here?? You were a great college and NFL player…but you have not coached any player up…the players that have done decent/great since you have been here have had physical and mental elements (Peters; Leonard and Hyrum) have made them superior, but when you get your hands on average players, they stay average.

Coach Lumpkin. What does he do?? make sure players go to class??

Ok, going to cool down and eat…latas.

  473. d1島: November 1, 2008 1:38 pm

    Wildcats (X2) come through anyway.

    WSU- 31-21 over PSU
    Linfield- 32-24 over UPS

Linfield clinches its 53rd consecutive winning season, an all-divisions record.

  474. d1島: November 1, 2008 1:43 pm

    Marvin,

Right or wrong, I think the stated reason is to “save” the year of eligibility for some of those other receivers. At this point, maybe that still makes sense. But then again, if it is really important to Mack to get bowl eligible, who knows?
IIRC Mouse Davis wants to finish up ar PSU before he retires for good.

  475. madeinhawaii November 1, 2008 1:44 pm

I don’t know… Maybe we should have stuck to the old game plan with the rolling pocket and Funaki as #1. Changing to a purer form of the RnS just before a road game may have been a bit too disorienting for the players.

They didn’t seem to be 100% into the game. Indecision on Alexander’s part, dropped balls, and failures to put points up in the redzone. Execution was horrible. It doesn’t matter what plays are called, if the team doesn’t execute the play properly, they won’t win.

Without the scout team on the road, NMSU will be difficult enough to prepare for and that win is most critical now.

  476. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 1:45 pm

    Green bottle, Tums, repeat…..

This loss is tough to take. The team is much better then what they showed today. BTW, Fredneck lost to LaTech.

  477. d1島: November 1, 2008 1:48 pm

    XxFaithxX,

Seemed to me that the Safety you mentioned was the one out of position on the two critical plays that the Def gave up today: TD pass that Solly got iso’d and the long QB run late that set up the 4th Q TD.

Maybe I’m mistaken; will watch it again later….much later 🙁

  478. Postmanke November 1, 2008 1:48 pm

    Kona Girl –

I was just thinking the same thing.. wont forget the way we came out of the tunnel at the Sugar Bowl after Georgia players stormed the field out of the tunnels. – It was awesome to see the energy in a team. When we came out.. it was like – “Yup, we’re here, wassup, wow cool place!” No energy and it looked like they wanted to be in an opening ceremony stroll of an olympic games then the Sugar Bowl. No SEC or top tier teams take the field the way we take the field. It’s a shame that we dont take advantage of the Under Armour branding and produce a cool hawaiian version of “We must protect this house” – I would say that alone is worth 14 points and 3 forced fumbles by the D just off the energy…

If anyone ever gets a chance, it’s hard on TV, but watch how South Carolina takes the field at the start of a game.. Pyrotechnics and all – Awesome!

  479. Kazz November 1, 2008 1:50 pm

It’s an up and down season and I would like to welcome back the “Marys” that come out of nowhere to post ONLY after a loss.

A bad loss? Yes. A lackluster effort? Yes. Thinking you people know better than the coaches? 😆

  480. Warrior in Georgia November 1, 2008 1:51 pm

Yes, JJ was a play calling genius and you know what Colt, Timmy, and Tyler would always say that they did exactly what Coach Jones thought they would do. And the receivers have NO excuses, they have all been in the program long enough to produce, but I’m sure they frustrated that the coaching staff can’t get a quarterback coached up to run the offense. I don’t care how you cut it, you are NOT supposed to lose this game. To be honest with you, I don’t think we deserve a bowl bid even if we get 7 wins.

Oh and by the way, if Fresno State doesn’t turn it over six times, we DON’T win that game either.

I will still support them, but we have fallen too far too fast

  481. Kazz November 1, 2008 1:51 pm

  482. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 1:52 pm

I agree Kazz. This one is a tough loss. But all teams do it and hopefully the Warriors can bounce back for the next one.

    GO Warriors!!!

  485. Harry November 1, 2008 1:52 pm

What was your prediction of how Hawaii would do this year and how is it matching up so far?

I had them with one more loss than a win.

    green bottle, tums, repeat….

  487. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 1:56 pm

I think Hawaii is going to be hard pressed to get a bowl this year. Cincinnati is a great team, and the rest of the schedule isn’t easy.

Living in korea I miss one thing the most…. Boiled Peanuts… Good grief I miss them!!!!

  488. Marvin November 1, 2008 1:57 pm

    d1,
Some of the JC players are not redshirting or don’t have a redshirt year. Lofton, Pollard, Avery. It seems to me the reason the WR that we have currently playing are receivers that’s been here the longest. I mean if you were one of the WRs on the sideline and then they put your best DB at WR before you, it is almost like a slap in the face. I mean it seems like every other team other rotate players in and out and we don’t. I know we got more WR than what we got. If they aren’t cutting it put the next one inline in. You never know what you got till you’ve seen them perform in games. It like they got a long leash compared to everyone else. For example Funaki got the longest leash among the QBs and these WR come on now. They need to be bench. Also at safety, we need to replace KM. I also thought Black was just cleared to play. Is this true? If so then we can more Doowling to safety.

  489. Kona Girl November 1, 2008 2:01 pm

    Postmanke –

Your quote is spot on and it’s not just at the Sugar Bowl that I thought that was what was going on in their minds. It seems that way every time they walk into a visiting stadium. Drives me nuts! I think Coach Mack should stick with his instincts and do a walk through of every visiting stadium. I hope he does it in New Mexico next week…then, “storm the field” on game day!

I’m not asking for fireworks, sparklers are ok with me…just anything other than the saunter!!!

  490. MattO & JenO November 1, 2008 2:04 pm

Warrior – true about Fresno… but, still, that’s speculation… and speculation can just keep going… if JJ never left, if Bess have stayed, if, if, if… Fresno DID turn it over 6 times.. and we DID win…

gotta work with what we have now… and fallen too far… 1 loss after Nevada? that’s too fast? true, this was one we shouldn’t have lost… play calling, dropped passes…qb platoon, which, let’s face it, isn’t working, not running enough in the 3rd quarter, turnovers, etc…

but it’s just 1 game… and against TOUGH opponents for the 1st half of the season, we came out even… with a NEW offense… and NEW coaching staff… not bad…

  491. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 2:07 pm

Well said, Hawaii lost its heart when Frazier let JJ leave. Not to mention, you lose your stud QB, all of your receivers? Hawaii has done great this year!!!!!

  492. wafan November 1, 2008 2:07 pm

    sojuNtaegu . . .

I know the feeling of not having boiled peanuts. So, whatever you do, do not look at the photos from the last TGate — especially the one with the huge aluminium tray full of boiled peanuts.

    Dang. I need a bib.

  493. Kazz November 1, 2008 2:10 pm

After reading the “END OF THE WORLD” posts and thinking back to what I saw in the game these are the issues we had TODAY:

    -Redzone failures.
    -Footing????? WTF Under Armour?
    -Dropped passes.
-Missed assignments in the secondary and a few on the missed FGs.

Three of the above can be fixed in time for the NMSU game , not sure how to fix the “footing” thing…

I won’t even touch the “playcalling” stuff because I can’t back track into the future and then back in time to “make the right call” as many couch potato coaches seem to do.

Am I worried? No. We’ve seen that this team can do with the fire under their a$$. BTW that fire didn’t seem to be there today. THIS is a BIG factor in why we lost even BIGGER than the stuff I mentioned above. No fire = no chance of winning a game no matter who.

I won’t even mention the piss poor officiating as I think we’ll just be beating a dead horse over and over again.

  494. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 2:12 pm

Thanks wafan! You are a true friend! LOL

  495. MattO & JenO November 1, 2008 2:16 pm

kazz, too true… esp. about the fire… seemed like a different team from last week… course, it was a road game, i guess..

as for footing on the field… maybe it was the cleat length? hopefully, we’re carrying varying lengths so half-time adjustments can be made…

then again… they could just be slips… a lot of them…

  496. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 2:24 pm

  497. Justin November 1, 2008 2:27 pm

  498. Rich2176 November 1, 2008 2:28 pm

d1 – Plus, I’m planning on having Thai for dinner. A little more spice for the stomach. LOL.

I’ve been a die-hard fan since seeing my first game at the roach palace, or whatever it was called back in 1970. Went to all home games when I attended UH, followed every game on PrimeTicket through the 80’s until 3 or 4 a.m., then however I was able to keep up to date when that contract ran out. Will always support the team no matter what, but sometimes the lack of execution gets the better of the most ardent fan. It’s been like that most of the season w/ dropped passes, false starts, turnovers, ints, fumbles, and most importantly personal fouls – which come from frustration. (Perhaps some of the play calling looks bad due to poor execution, but 3 long passes from the 20 w/ 4 min left? Throw the outs, get out of bounds and stop the clock. ADVANCE THE BALL.)

But, I look forward to the next game and rest of the season!! GO WARRIORS!

Alexander can’t throw accurately while running. But he’s one heck of a runner to bring down.

Too many dropped passes at crucial times.

It seems like they forget about the running game at times.

Red zone play calling needs improving.

Back Coach Mac. We lost Coach Cav, JJ got crazy Mcknight. We lost Singletary, JJ got yelling Reinbolt. We lost Lempa, JJ got NFL Glanville. Every coach can be replaced if they can’t do the job. Coach Ron could go back to the SOS w/ Jasmine. Coach Rolo back to SFCC. Coach Smith to PSU w/ mouse. Coach Maloe to help w/ Coach Tyrone where ever he ends up. Coach Stuz remain GA, but hire a real receiver coach. The players are always a reflection of their coach. These coaches are laid back seem to be nice guys. We need more hard experienced guys like Gurke to teach our boys to man up on offense. Coach Mac should put these coaches on notice today that their jobs will be on the line if we don’t start scoring more. We play in the WAC where the scores are suppose to be 45 to 42 with lots of ups and downs. Our defense is playing WAC football but the offense is pop warner. Coach Mac makes the million buck to make the tough call. Get better coaches.

Geez, IDK why I even bother reading the comments here after a loss. Makes me even more sick than the loss itself. I’ll see you all tomorrow or Monday.

  511. wafan November 1, 2008 2:59 pm

Going to forget today’s loss with a huge salad with a wonderful oil and vinegar dressing and bread stick with a light sprinkling of garlic powder, followed by a hearty meal of eggplant parmigania.

Then get a good night of sleep — with an extra hour even!

Read the funny’s in tomorrow’s paper (really considering throwing the rest away because it will be too depressing to read about the disasters and evil people) then relax the rest of the day grocery shopping and kicking back.

Hmmmm, maybe a nice pot roast with potatoes, carrots, onions, celery and daikon? Sounds good to me! Cook ’em long and slow until the meat cannot be cut at all, but just shreds instead. YUM!

I feel better already! Do not let the posers and wagon-people get you down, Jason!

Like Annie says, “The sun will come up tomorrow!”

  512. wafan November 1, 2008 3:02 pm

So how did everything go at the eassai gathering today? No doubt you all had a lot of fun regardless of the outcome!

  513. wafan November 1, 2008 3:07 pm

Maybe there is bad juju at the eassai.

Not jojo, jeje, jiji, juje juji, jeju or even jiju, but juju as in . . . heck, you know.

Hopefully, there is good juju on the other side of the hill next week.

  514. brew808 November 1, 2008 3:08 pm

Wow! Talk about a dirty lickens!
:04 left in Q1 – Neb 0, Sooners 35! It’s 34 yds vs. 225 yds. And really, it hasn’t even been that close!
    🙄 😯 🙄

  515. brew808 November 1, 2008 3:10 pm

wafan – You sure spend a lot of time “tap-dancing” – trying to get yourself out of trouble! 🙂 I’m guessing that this start back at Damian HS…. 😀 😯 😆

  516. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 3:10 pm

GO Texas Tech! Oklahoma number one! I know, I know, shut up… LOL

  517. 99club November 1, 2008 3:15 pm

    brew-
No kidding about that OU game. That’s an *ss whooping.

I’m enjoying this TX-TX Tech game, 12-0 at the end of the 1st in favor of Tech. Tickets were advertised in the local paper for $350 per…I’m paying $11.50 next week for the NMSU game!

  518. brew808 November 1, 2008 3:21 pm

Howdy 99 – I was just thinking about you. They just showed Blackledge on ESPN getting his BBQ. It looked deeeelisciousssss! YUM! Somehow, I thought you might be having BBQ ribs tonight too! 😀 🙄

  519. brew808 November 1, 2008 3:22 pm

…certainly looked better than that rabbit food wafan is settling for…. 😆

  520. NYUH November 1, 2008 3:28 pm

Wasn’t quite able to pay full attention to the game today but ESPN 360 seemed to work pretty good. All I seem to see though was somebody dropping the ball, especially the receivers.

Tex Tech is playing the game we should have seen in the Sugar Bowl. 18-0 over No. 1 Texas.

  521. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 3:28 pm

Wooo hooo Oklahoma!!!!! Go Texas Tech!

  522. brew808 November 1, 2008 3:33 pm

Wow – Anyone else think that not only is UT getting a taste of humility, but Colt McCoy’s chances for the Heisman is in serious jeopardy. He’s certainly not the best QB on the field tonight!

Neb 7, Sooner 42 with 8:00 in Q2. Keep watching and we might see Bo Pelini’s (Neb HC) head explode on live TV! 😯 😈 😯

  523. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 3:38 pm

Kona Girl has it right. I had to take a long walk, I wuz sooo mad..

i had expectations of a win. not because i wuz dreaming, the vibes i had was all positive. so how the heck does the TEAM fall flat on its face? as a gang!!!

our consensus was that the whole team, coaches and all, took this game as a gimme.

c’mon Warriors, we’re way better than this. You know it. I know it. Play like you’re good, because you are good. Coach Nick, You have talent. You’re the O guy. The other guyz are D guyz. LEAD the O guyz!!!!

    GO WARRIORS.

  524. curveball November 1, 2008 3:38 pm

This team is going to make my hair fall out…oh wait?? 😉

  525. wafan November 1, 2008 3:41 pm

    curveball . . .

I know. Gets cold sometimes, yeah?

  526. 99club November 1, 2008 3:41 pm

    Brew-

Wings w/BBQ beans tonight. TX driving now after a fumble…watching the scroll of scores it looks like the BYU CO St. game is a barnburner. Of course, it’s on a network that no one gets.

  527. wafan November 1, 2008 3:43 pm

    Brew . . .

    Tap-dancing? Huh?

I am innocent, I tell you. Innocent!

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  528. Stretch November 1, 2008 3:45 pm

I haven’t read through all the posts today but wanted to add my thoughts. During the practice on Thursday, it seemed that the team was VERY loose. It looked like they were going through the motions and were having too much fun doing so. Lots of trash talking and laughing between the offense and defense. They took Utah St lightly and when it came time to step up, they couldn’t kick it into second gear. Dropped passes, missed blocks, missed tackles and penalties are a result of a lack of concentration.

This team is NOT good enough to go into any team’s house and think they can win blindfolded.

  529. wafan November 1, 2008 3:47 pm

Time to bocha. Need to wash off this bad luck from today.

At least I do not have to wash off diet Coke, though. HA!

Tap, tap, tappity, tap . . . (I learned how to do this step thanks to Esme!) . . . tappity, tappity, tap . . .

  530. curveball November 1, 2008 3:48 pm

Good thing I am not a Texas fan or my mustache would probably fall off ..You gotta love college football.:-)

  531. sojuNtaegu November 1, 2008 3:48 pm

Is Texas Tech for real? Wow!

  532. BowsForever November 1, 2008 3:51 pm

Well, the table’s set for the next four games. Hopefully, Pilares will be ready to play, which will free up Mouton to concentrate on D, which will be hugely important. Chase Holbrook is a capable QB (“lucky” for us, he’s not a runner).

  533. d1島: November 1, 2008 3:56 pm

    wafan,

you nevah see the picture with one BIG HAND scooping plenny boiled peanuts from that tray?

    heheheh

  534. d1島: November 1, 2008 3:57 pm

    Rich2176,

Well, enough green bottles and I guess the Thai food can be tolerated. 😉

  535. Pauoa Boy November 1, 2008 3:57 pm

Refrained from posting until pau game…all I can say is WOW, a loss to Utah State, how frikkin embarrassing!

Funny how we take two steps forward and den three steps back. Very inconsistent all year long. The only consistency that has been shown every game so far is the OLine ackin stupid and not blocking again! The receivers playing passive with no aggression as if they think the ball supposed to just fall into their hands. Headaches and frustration!

Also, stop with the sympathy bullcrap already about you not a true fan this and true fan that. Ainokea, a true fan will let the truth be told. We screwing up let em know, we doing good let em know! It’s not like we going grab all our UH belongings throw em in one pile and make bon fiyah! I still wear my Warrior Green Colors Proud, whether we winning or losing, and not cause I look good in green either Koa-Mahu!

It sickens me though when the boys don’t play all out. What the heo is wrong, where’s the heart, where’s the passion, where’s the leadership??? Can Blaze “Intense All Da Time” Soares please come back!

  536. d1島: November 1, 2008 4:00 pm

    TTU killing Texas…

    starts with the O-line, baby
    Theirs is MASSIVE and MOBILE….
their Defense is the real deal, too.

  537. Pauoa Boy November 1, 2008 4:07 pm

Michael Crabtree is the best receiver in college football! Our receivers need to take notes on how he is aggressive at going to the dayum ball and snatching it out of the air!

  538. djmitcho November 1, 2008 4:07 pm

    d1,
congrats to #2 son on winning. the pirates ended up winning 40-29. the same running back scored all 6 tds

Funny enough this makes me feel better as those kinds of things can be fixed in time for the NMSU game.

It seems like someone turned off the “switch” sometime after the Nevada game and today’s game. I’m sure they can turn it on again and they have to keep it on all the way until DEC 24th.

  540. d1島: November 1, 2008 4:12 pm

    djmitcho,

Sounds like a great game up there! Glad somebody had a good day! 😆

  541. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 4:26 pm

This season, politics is in the air. If you want it, you have to go get it. Intense till the minute.

So with that in mind, where were we today? No where near close! and it wasn’t because the players weren’t trying. i saw intensity sometimes. but mostly i saw intensity in the 4th quarter. i saw more intensity from the players then i did from their leaders.

  542. Buffoman November 1, 2008 4:28 pm

At the end of the day, we all knew that the offense was going to be less than “Colt like” this year and the word was that the defense was going to keep us in the games. Well…. the defense is not keeping us in the game. Too many breakdowns, too many runs to daylight by opponents and too many wide, and I mean wide open receivers.

Yes, our receivers are a real step down from what we had, the o-line as I stated during spring ball was going to be a real source of concern and the q-back, well.

BUT, in it all, we have to understand that it really are the coaches that have to prepare the team for games. I was worried before the game that the team had believed in all of the press and just decided to mail this one in. Ouch!

If JJ did one thing really well during the season, he prepared for each game as though he was going up against a juggernaut (with the exception of the actual juggernaut: Georgia). This coaching staff just cannot seem to do that.

Maybe its chemistry and maybe we need a whole shake up of personnel. Let’s see what the coach does at the end of the season.

There are still a few more games, but I don’t envy coach as this one is tough to turn around (and on the road on top of that) and it’s just not going to get easier (see what Idaho did against SJS?).

  543. Pauoa Boy November 1, 2008 4:28 pm

Hope Coach Mack intensifies practice and puts the foot up the team’s arse from here on out. No more Mr. nice guy, make them work and earn there chance to play. Playing college football is a priviledge and if some players want to take that for granted, then good get planny bench space for there dumbarse! If the star players aint cutting it, I’m sure there are guys hungry waiting to shine.

Coach Rolo I think has done well so far with the development of the QB’s. He needs help though from Coach Smith and the dayum Oline. The QB’s can only do so much and have been having to improvise a hell of a lot this year using there feet! Then we have our beloved receivers. This is probably the most dissapointing bunch we’ve had in awhile. Forget about the Fab 4, even before them we’ve had receivers who came to play that weren’t necessarily the big name guy. Guys like Tafiti Uso, Gerald Welch, Coach Stutz, Clifton Herbert, Justin Colbert, Chad Mock, to name a few. Salas is okay at times, Lane inconsistent, Washington inconsistent, Bain inconsistent. Maybe the JC’s could’ve helped this year who knows?

  544. d1島: November 1, 2008 4:33 pm

    Buffoman,

True, I sure don’t envy Mack’s position this week. He’ll definitely earn his pay if he can pull out a “W” in Las Cruces.

  545. d1島: November 1, 2008 4:35 pm

Wow, what kind of BS is that? Didn’t a flag get thrown?

“There was no foul; we need to do all we can to protect Texas.”

  546. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 4:37 pm

Boise State just pitched a shutout over NMSU, 49-0.

Looks like both UH and NMSU will be looking for a W when they meet in Las Cruces next week.

  547. chawan_cut November 1, 2008 4:38 pm

yep, no blcking in the back there.

    our team:
    Jekyll

    or

    Hyde.

which team will show up??? we don’t know.

  548. Pauoa Boy November 1, 2008 4:41 pm

    chawan_cut,

    I think of it laddis…

    Home Games: Jekyll

Away Games: Hyde, although that Fresno St. win was sweet 🙂

  549. d1島: November 1, 2008 4:42 pm

    Kazz,

No “slipsie’s” by Crabtree with those UA shoes. 😯
You can rule out that one from the list!

  550. BowsForever November 1, 2008 4:43 pm

Well, all we can do is hope for the best. Two of the biggest priorities have gotta be having the receivers to work on catching, and cut down on those penalties, especially by certain repeat offenders of the O-line.

  551. Kelli November 1, 2008 4:46 pm

Ouch is right. Good thing guri guri sorta fixed the sorrow after the loss.

  552. madeinhawaii November 1, 2008 4:47 pm

I was more concerned about the NMSU game than the Utah one.. geez…

  553. jm2375 November 1, 2008 4:48 pm

anyone know if Homey got home ok?

  554. Pomai November 1, 2008 4:49 pm

IMHO JJ is one of the top offensive play callers in the country bar none, but if you don’t have the players to make the plays you end up losing, Ron Lee might not be JJ but IMHO he’s pretty good, problem is he doesn’t have the players either. You need to execute and that hasn’t been happening.

Do we still have a chance you bet your bippy we do.

    I can live with 9 – 4

  555. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 4:51 pm

maybe we need 2 use da JUGS amoa and get a receivers’ coach.

maybe Coach needs to let Rolo have the reins, complete w/o Ron tellin him what to do, and hold him accountable at the end of the year.

its admirable Coach is giving da young coaches chance. it really $uck$ to lose to USU. i sure hope what he’s holdin back this year, an da chances he takin dis year, pays off next year.

if Coach has a bigger plan, and he’s stickin wit his plan, then I say good for him.

kinda hard to see that far ahead though when we get dark hours like dis one wuz. 🙁

    okay, snap and clear!

    Go Warriors!!!!!

  556. Pauoa Boy November 1, 2008 4:55 pm

    Warrior Boys – 31 NMSU – 27

Screw this game, I ready for the next one, Lets Go Warriors!

  557. d1島: November 1, 2008 4:58 pm

Couple more scores and maybe Sam Fehoko can play.

  558. d1島: November 1, 2008 5:01 pm

    Stephen,

Well, I hope you guys enjoy the steak dinner from Bulla anyway

  559. Bulla November 1, 2008 5:14 pm

    Aloha Tsaikos,

ouch, what a long day for the Warriors. from what i gathered, it was a lot of mistakes and not enough game, and that makes it tough.

The Wildcats were victorious in Ogden, but it was an ugly 31 to 21 win. But an ugly win is better than a pretty loss, any day of the week.

The Beast was blessed, 1 QB sack, 1 TFL and 2 assists, so a good day at the office for him. haha

  560. Bulla November 1, 2008 5:17 pm

  567. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 5:57 pm

    C’mon Warriors.

JJ get the luck to be at SMU, with Texas and Texas Tech and Oklahoma and Nebraska all close by. He gets to draw off their energy to motivate himself.

We get kumu hula to draw from….
    BUT… WE GOT EACH OTHER!!!!

C’mon Coaches, get mad!!!! Get angry, even if its with me…. BUT, GET REALL ANGRY!!!

Get a grip. Let’s go Warriors!!!

    WALK THE TALK!!!!

  568. Garret November 1, 2008 6:13 pm

I’d like to once again say that a team is never as bad as it looks after a loss and never as good as it looks after a win. So, I hope that people don’t want to tear down the program after one bad road loss…especially after it came after a big win vs. Nevada. The team isn’t as good as people thought after the Nevada game (which could have easily been a loss) and isn’t as bad as they looked today (which could have been a win without the dropped passes).

  569. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 6:18 pm

    Garrett,
its not our team. It is US.

OUR SECURITY GUARDS AT ALOHA STADIUM WON’T LET THE FANS ON THE FIELD. NATIONAL SECURITY. TEXAS TECH AND TEXAS AND ALL THOSE OTHER RED STATES GET TO HAVE THEIR PEOPLE STORM THE FIELD, FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES. WHAT WE GOT HERE? A BUNCH OF OFFICIOUS PEOPLE. FACTS IS FACTS.

and our security guards are but a reflection of our government’s support for our team. sure, we’ve got support. BUT not the kind of support i saw in Lubbock on national tv tonite.

let’s face it. we got kumu hulas in charge. until we change that way of thinking…

  570. Garret November 1, 2008 6:21 pm

What bothers me the most after this game was the dropped passes. You can blame JJ for a perceived talent level, but you cannot blame him for dropped passes. Coaching, repetition (especially with the JUGS machine outside of practice), focus, and intensity are completely controllable by the Warrior coaches and players. You cannot make the players taller or faster, but through hard work they can have better hands. This wasn’t the first game where there were a lot of dropped passes, but this might be the first loss that dropped passes are a big (if not the biggest) factor.

I’m not going to blame the coaches for the play calling or other issues, since if the WRs catch those passes, then nobody is criticizing Ron Lee like they are above (and I’d hate to read what is on SH and WN). The strangest part of this is that Salas was catching the ball very well this season and had impressed me, and I thought he was the best receiver the Warriors had this season…but this game definitely wasn’t his best. Maybe his injury hampered his catches? I still believe in Salas and think he’ll be great the rest of the season.

  571. Garret November 1, 2008 6:25 pm

    bighilofan2,

I don’t think that the security guards are the problem with the Warriors. And you have to admit that there is a reason why Hawaii fans storming the field is a problem–don’t you remember how so many Warriors lost their equipment from Hawaii fans on the field? Someone tried to grab Colt’s helmet while he was being interviewed and he had to work hard to keep it. I’ll bet that *none* of the Texas Tech players lose their equipment even with all the fans running around.

I couldn’t believe that fans would steal the equipment that the Warriors needed to compete. It was a distraction to the team and it was a big problem because the players need their helmets to play and they are custom fitted.

  572. Postmanke November 1, 2008 6:28 pm

the way i see it who is going to stop a thousand people rushing the field at the same time? Rush the field!

  573. Garret November 1, 2008 6:33 pm

A few hours after the Nevada game, many days before K Mouton visited the blog, I posted that I thought that I thought that the benefit of having Mouton at slotback instead of Bain wasn’t worth the downgrade of not having Mouton at CB on all plays. I thought that after the Nevada game and think it even more now. Especially with the next game being against NMSU, I think that Mouton needs to be a full-time CB and only occasionally used on offense.

If Mouton is only going to be used at CB on clear passing downs…basically every down is a passing down for NMSU.

  574. Garret November 1, 2008 6:37 pm

One last thought before I have to get back to my houseguests (the reason why I’ve been of the blog most of today): Maybe part of the problem for the dropped passes is that the WRs have been catching passes from four different #1 QBs this season. It is hard to get into a QB/WR rhythm when the QBs change. Each QB throws a different ball, and it could be a problem for consistency with the WRs.

However, I don’t remember many drops from Alexander throws last week, and that was without him getting practice reps with the receivers…and the ball and field were probably wet then!

  575. Garret November 1, 2008 6:37 pm

“of the blog” = “off the blog”

  576. Maverick November 1, 2008 6:39 pm

haha Kumu Hulas influence. Good one BHF2-

We just need to sever the line between the state and football for fan support. Hawaii is a passive enviroment, not the norm for the average football enviroment through out the country.

Majority of stadium madness across America can muffle Aloha stadium on an average night.

But then again, how does Utah St. pull off a victory with only six thousand fan support. A lucky moment I guess.

I do agree, It’s time to loosen the reins at Aloha Stadium. When the security doesn’t allow the inflatable beach ball to “go with the flow”, then the no fun police have too much word.

  577. addahknowjoe November 1, 2008 6:39 pm

I just witnessed something we all could learn from.

Just after suffering a devastating loss to Texas Tech on national TV, Texas players manged to trudge through thousands of oncoming, screaming and jubilant Red Raider fans, gather themselves together in front of their Longhorn band and fans, held up their Hook ’em Horns hands and sang their Alma Mater.

These young men played their hearts out for Texas and lost. These men then humbly went in front of their fans and thanked them for the opportunity to represent the Longhorn nation. That orange section carved out in Techs stadium returned the love with pride.

I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it- If we win, we win together. When we lose, we must lose together.

Folks, if we ever dream of seeing our program rise to the level BCS teams possess, it begins with the character that you possess after game days like today.

  578. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 6:46 pm

    Garrett,

okay. first things first. howzit my friend. i hope you’re having a great Saturday – all things considered.

but i gotta tell you, imho the officiousness of our society really gets to me. there is always a silver lining in everything, from extra TSA in Hilo, and more security guards at the State court buildings, to more police flagging big trucks hauling trusses from Hilo to Waimea, to 5 guys with shovesl standing around a pothole while its getting filled. there is always a excuse reason for the extra manpower.

but when those “reasons” relate to my one great joy, UH Warriors, i draw the line! Warrior Nation, this is war, we must respond, those are dogma type platitudes. I like the Warrior Nation stuff. makes me yell louder and more proudly for our team. Makes me feel really good about being a native Hawaiian. know what i mean?! so when the braddaz come out lack lustre, that really twists my jaws!

  579. Postmanke November 1, 2008 7:17 pm

Run, run, run the ball against NMSU.

  580. K. Mouton November 1, 2008 7:18 pm

If you go back to the blog the other day, I told everyone the other day Ryan’s hands were ok but still could use a little work and he proved it today but I also told evryone he needed to play more D than O and I got argument from almost everyone on here. After today I won’t ever get argued with on that issue again. Don’t wanna say it but I TOLD YOU SO!

  581. Justin November 1, 2008 7:19 pm

C’mon coach mack, get it toghether Dogg. Hire some real coaches next year, it will make your life easier. High school coaches do not belong in D1. Put mouton back on defense, you never put your best defensive player on offense.

  582. Stretch November 1, 2008 7:24 pm

I think it will be good for the team to stay on the mainland away from Hawaii. It will give them time to eat, sleep, shit and live Warrior football 24/7 (except when they have study hall). It will help them refocus on football and the remainder of the season. They will be away from the distractions of being home. We all know that they can play better football than they did today.

I agree keep Mouton on D esp against the 6th ranked passing O in the country.

  584. K. Mouton November 1, 2008 7:29 pm

Is the Daniel Smith being talked about the one from Houston That was Vince Young’s top target his senior year at Madison High because he was supposed to attend Hawaii? Ryan and I have known him since I was 6 years old. He is also the father of Salonge Knowles’ (Beyonce’s sister) child.

  585. SteveM November 1, 2008 7:30 pm

I am discovering that a buffet breakfast that runs 30 minutes before game time through the first half might not a real good idea. By the second quarter I was a comatose as the team.

Gave it my best shot — hit the line 4 times but was overwhelmed by more fruits, eggs, portuguese sausage, and spencer steak than I could sidestep. Then the boiled peanuts, coffee, and Mrs. LTUHF’s famous lemon pudding mochi was the final sedative needed in the 4th quarter.

Disappointing–but like my Polynesian paralysis, the team will recover. Next week is another opportunity to excel .

    GO WARRIORS!
    … eliminate the drops 😡

Never mind on the D. Smith issue. I looked it up and its someone else but the one I’m talking about originally told me he was going to attend Hawaii but never made it there.

  588. NorthShoreFan November 1, 2008 7:45 pm

    Aloha Gangee…
I was watching the game on the radio today and it seems to me we got some major problems on the offense, even this late in the season. Great to see the guys still working but it seems the O-line still needs a lot of work. The receivers don’t seem to know how to read defense and get to the open areas of the field and they need to learn to come back to the ball when Inoki or Greg scrambles. They got to help the qb out.
It is also time to go with one QB! It is difficult for the O-line to know the tendencies of the QB when they move out of the pocket. The R & S takes a lot of timing and trust in the QB and receivers.
I vote for Greg Alexander for the rest of the season. We live and die with him. Get the younger recivers in the game if the ones now don’t get it done.
We got the rest of the season to improve. Let’s do it!

  589. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 7:48 pm

I have to agree with Stretch (528),

We did seem to take this game somewhat lightly and the result we saw today.

But, come on, Tsaikos, a road trip to 4500 feet after a big win?

How does everyone feel about Georgia? They were dreaming of a National Championship. Does anyone think they’re calling for their coaches heads or Texas?

Our goal of being in the Hawaii Bowl is still very much alive. We all knew that our offense would be in shambles for awhile and we would have fits and starts. Did we all get so spoiled by last year that we’ve lost sight of reality? They all played like they had serious jet-lag for some reason.

But the UST Aggs played hard, Fresno was no fluke and they are greatly improved. Let’s not act like the sky is falling, it’s college. On to the next game. They’re mad, hopefully, win the NMST game, come home and make a run.

The world has not ended, let’s keep the faith, Go, Warriors!!!!

    Kazz,

No “slipsie’s” by Crabtree with those UA shoes.
You can rule out that one from the list!

    Touche sir.. touche!

Wow Texas Tech was able to PROTECT THEIR HOUSE… (and I could care less 😈 )

  591. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 7:59 pm

P.S, Ryan Mouton is the only DB we have who can quickly run down a broken play from behind, so put him back where he belongs and start giving some of our bench receivers some playing time.

Catching passes in the game is very different from practice, regardless how many one catches during work-outs.

Overall though, I still think that this was just one of those games.

Fresno fans must have felt exactly like us today, after we beat them at their house.

  592. Mrs. Bulla November 1, 2008 8:05 pm

That’s a good word, Addahknowjoe! Like Esme said, don’t want to be a fairweather fan. Time to regroup, focus on what’s in front… NMSU!

  593. madeinhawaii November 1, 2008 8:09 pm

Chase Holbrook might have injured his arm. Wonder if he’ll be able to play next week? If not Chase… what’s his backup like?

  594. GoDeep November 1, 2008 8:25 pm

I have completely lost faith in our coaching staff. Nine games in, and still can’t settle on a quarterback, when the entire world can see that Funaki cannot play the position. Alexander is even a better runner than him. Graunke won’t play the next game because he is not even on the Mainland, all because he threw one interception in the driving rain last week. Funaki can throw 5 ints per game, and continues to get playing time. What is going on!!??!!

  595. Bob November 1, 2008 8:26 pm

I watched much of this game on ESPN360. I wish I didn’t. UH committed so many mistakes. It was embarrassing. Why are our players so undisciplined? I know the players tried hard, but they must improve. Stop making stupid mistakes. Alexander made some nice runs, but then penalties moved us backwards. Coaching staff must also improve. What’s up with 3 straight running plays at one point? There were so many blown opportunities to score. Please make use of Alexander’s arms for throwing plays. It’s a waste to have him hand off the ball. And use Funaki for option and running plays. He can’t throw or read as well as Alexander. I’m so frustrated with the play calling and stupid mistakes. Please improve. I was also hoping for a 10-win season. With this loss, it is clear that UH is not worthy of 10 wins this year. We’d be lucky to have 7 wins.

  596. Justin November 1, 2008 8:26 pm

I think we’ll c Mouton back on D full time for the next game, especially since pilares should be ready by then. I hope the team gets it toghether.

  597. GoDeep November 1, 2008 8:28 pm

Its okay to bring Funaki in to run the option, but don’t run that stupid play more than once per game.

  598. Bob November 1, 2008 8:37 pm

Also, what’s up with Dan Kelly? He is so inconsistent. He is not deserving of the Iceman nickname. I’m happy for his game winner against Fresno State, but we need him to get us 3 points everytime he is called upon. We need every single point we can get. Mr. Kelly, please practice, practice, and practice. Concentrate and make kicks for us in the games. We all know you have the ability to make kicks. Now let’s show us that you can do it consistently the rest of this season.

    yo tsaikos,

todays game sucked. the food at genji’s’ was good, the lemon mochi from LTUHF’s wifey was even better.

todays game sucked…i have no other way to put it,. loss of words. hopefully next week we can bring some semblance of passion and stop dropping the freakin passes. watching on tv makes it harder to see the whole field and plays developed. There were MANY times where Alexander had a lunch break to throw the ball…are the receivers unable to make a play and get separation or are the db’s just that great?

on another note. Boise St. WOW. looks like they are the real deal. maybe this year they get their share of Sugar? Against Alabama? that would be pretty awesome. Chris Peterson, the next Urban Meyer for sure.

Losses are tough, but I give credit to a lot of the players who stood up and answered questions after the game.
Malcolm Lane, Daniel Libre, Adam Leonard, Greg Alexander, Inoke Funaki, David Veikune, Jameel Dowling, Calvin Roberts, Ryan Mouton, John Estes, Clarence Tuioti-Mariner, Dan Kelly were among the guys who took the time. That’s a sign of maturity and leadership.
There were a couple who didn’t want to talk, but that’s OK, too.

  614. tommui November 1, 2008 9:54 pm

FLORIDA TED and others – when the season began, I was hopeful but in my heart, I figured 8-5 or 7-6 season would be great, all things considered.

Considering our losses from last year’s team, the fact that our present receivers really didn’t get a chance to play as much, that our O-line had losses from last year and this year had to play musical chairs, it is surprising that we have been in games holding our own – at least for a while.

As for the “Iceman”, if there is no line blocking for him, its not surprising that there would be kicks that get blocked.

come on now, the boss and i have been here in the hotel since we got back. we checked with the front desk around 6ish and the team had not returned yet. mana lolotai’s uncle was in the parking lot waiting and he didn’t know what happened with everyone, so he was going to stay in the lot til the bus came.

we came upstairs and crashed, now we’re going to go to Sonic i think, haha, wow, what a treat.

  617. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 10:10 pm

As Tsaikos, let’s all just keep hanging with our team and see how it all ends up. We’re all spoiled by 06 and 07 and forgot the 5-7 in 05. Let’s all just cool our jets.

In regards to the iceman, he’s not using his usual leg motion on a lot of kicks. Even a lot of extra points are adventures. It would be easily correctable, but has to be demonstrated. Wish I was there.

  618. Da Punchbowl Kid November 1, 2008 10:15 pm

  621. expat November 1, 2008 10:22 pm

What a day for college football. That Texas Tech game was amazing. It is hard to see how Washington State shows up at Aloha Stadium with much heart. They are getting abused. Although not as bad as Washington — or maybe they are.

The only consolation for those two programs is that someone will have to win the Apple cup, so at least one of those teams will have a conference win.

Good to see Georgia getting pounded. Again.

Not many people are whining this year that Nick Saban gets paid too much.

The wheels have come off the bus for NMSU the past few games. This will be a hard game, but NMSU has been as inept offensively as the Warriors lately, which is bit surprising. You gotta figure that Mumme is fighting for his job right now.

I was pretty sure we were going to drop one of the games between Idaho and Utah State. Both those teams have been playing better — and more importantly playing hard. I thought it would be Idaho though (seriously).

There are some major structural problems in Manoa, but we have to give the Coach room to build this thing. The team was gutted at the end of last year. We can’t start getting the Clemson disease — always thinking that we should be much better than we really are. We are still competitive in our conference and in all likelihood will finish in the high middle of the standings. We will be competitive next year and, more importantly, we get Boise State at home.

We have to keep things in perspective. We have been in the WAC longer than anyone else at this point, and in all that time we have only won one outright title and had shares of two others.

It could be much, much worse. We could be Michigan — eliminated today from a bowl for the first time in 33 years. We also didn’t lose 58 – 0 to Stanford today. 58 – 0 to Stanford. That has to be some kind of modern record.

  622. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:24 pm

    crashed for awhile, too.
Tried to watch the game again.
Got as far as the end of the 1st Q.
I think I’m done with this game.

  623. FloridaTed November 1, 2008 10:25 pm

Whatever points we want to criticize, the most glaring was, that for the first time to me, the team looked and played really jet-lagged. I was already nervous halfway through the first quarter.

They traveled a lot this year and may have been just slightly fatigued, combine that with altitude, a few mistakes and a desperate foe that is getting better, it usually adds up to a loss. See Fresno today and almost last week. There are a lot of fans on the Mainland today that feel much worse than us.It is not the end of the world by a long shot.

Cheer up, everybody. We’ll win again next week.

  624. aggie November 1, 2008 10:27 pm

This is the best weekend I’ve had as an Aggie fan in a long time! It was a great game and the Aggies played tough.
Hawaii you have a class act coach.
“I know they were all over his case, but Guy is a heck of a coach and he does a great job” McMackin said. “He has got young players and players that are playing their tails off. He gets his team ready to play and I have a lot of respect for him. Anybody that is trying to get rid of him doesn’t know what football is all about. They need to get off his case.”

  625. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:28 pm

  627. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:35 pm

The life of a DIII football player.

Saddle up at 0645 for a 3 1/2 hour bus ride to play your game. Make a pit stop for the pre-game meal.
Play your 4ss off then another 3 1/2 hour bus ride back that gets lengthened by another 1 1/2 hour stop for dinner.
Roll back on campus at 2115.
That bus ride is sure good incentive to win!

  628. Stephen Tsai November 1, 2008 10:37 pm

The fans were pretty cold tonight.
They were chanting: “Just like Georgia … Just like Georgia.”

  629. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 10:37 pm

    expat,

Many of the NMSU fans are adamant that Mumme is throwing in the towel for the year. The worst thing about it is that there is some decent talent to be found on their squad, but the coaching situation coupled with team injuries doesn’t help to bring out the best in their players.

NMSU ran a conservative offense against Boise…..they are a passing team; what were they doing trying to run the ball all night long? Not just in the minds of their fans, but even in myself I think it’s time for Mumme to go. I wonder how much longer his contract lasts….

  630. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:38 pm

  631. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:40 pm

  632. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:43 pm

    CRW,

    Q:

I wonder how much longer his contract lasts….

A: How many more games do they play this year?

Mumme already sacrificed the DC last season; no one else left this year.
(Bulla can tell you more about that.)

  633. d1島: November 1, 2008 10:50 pm

    Stephen,

Will you be staying up there with the team all week?

  634. aggie November 1, 2008 10:51 pm

I have never seen a fumble at the end of a 90-yard kickoff return. Actually I think Hawaii could have won if they didn’t beat themselves (turnovers, dropped balls and penalties). We play Boise next week and they do not make mistakes like that.

  635. bighilofan2 November 1, 2008 10:53 pm

  639. Committed Road Warrior November 1, 2008 11:04 pm

    d1,

So assuming Mumme is gone, I wonder what type of head coach the NMSU Administration would try to bring in. Would they bring in an old-timer wanting to make Las Cruces their last stop? An up-and-coming assistant coach from a BCS squad? Or a very successful head coach from the I-AA ranks?

  640. aggie November 1, 2008 11:08 pm

Why did one of Hawaii’s best defensive backs play on offensive? It looked like your secondary needed all the help it could get.

Don’t ask me. Back in January I was Backin’ MacMackin (still do, btw) and tonight there are some who would not think much of my opinion on any HC hire 😉

NMSU, yeah, that is a story all within itself…ryan’s escapades from being one of their recruits. on his official ‘visit’, the DC decides to retire, coach woody woodenhoffer, former DC for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the days of Jack Lambert, Joe Greene and others.

new DC coming in, former HS coach, we thought the DL coach would be the heir apparent, but i guess not. it all worked out for the best.

coach mumme is a different kind of guy, aloof would be a good word for it. they thought that their QB was going to be the heir apparent for Colt this season….i guess not.

Warriors can take this game, but they gotta focus, BIG TIME. let’s go warriors!!!!

Warriors, focus and execute, look in the mirror…..just do it

I’ve had $hitty days at the office. Coaches have the same kind of days too. Just gott not quit, thats all.
The worst of the worst is a quitter. I’m not a quitter.
and i know Mana Silva is not a quitter, garanz and I bet I can say that about the whole team. From Smith to Rolo to Mack to da Lees.

Coaches, be really good judges of talent, and stick to the plan. make a great plan! sell your plan. look at your co-coaches in the eye and take charge.

    So lets get going, coaches!

    Go Warriors!!!

i know what you mean, tough times, but that is what will make them even tougher. perseverence, cannot put a price on wisdom….but we gotta all pull together if we’re going to ‘right the ship’. not putting blame, but looking for solutions, back on the winning track.

when it appears that the team has lost the ‘desire’ to win, that is a problem. granted, being in Ogden is a little challenging due to the altitude difference, about 4,000 ft above sea level. that will impact a team and expose it’s level of lack of conditioning.

i noticed that last week when Weber played NAU in Flagstaff, which is about 7,000 ft above sea level…and that was a mean adjustment. personally, the air was so thin i thought we were going to pass out just walking to our seats.

long story short, i would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, for UH to dominate NMSU (but bulla, how do you really feel? haha) and to come home with a victory. only time will tell.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    Stephen,

You said that a few people stayed and talk to the media and answered some question and that show’s a sign of maturity. What maturity and what leadership? How does answering questions from the media show’s leadership. I rather see it on the field. Action speaks louder than words. M Lane can’t even talked. He is sorry, should be bench. The only reason Lane, Bain and Washington are starting because they have been at UH longer than other players on the sideline. Look at Texas Tech, they had 9 different WR’s playing. Why only play those 4 who can’t play for crap. Those 4 are practice players. They aren’t game time players. Give the other receivers shot instead our best DB. It just bring the morale down when those 4 got a long leash and everyone else got a short leash. Wow… Can’t believe you said it showed maturity and leadership to answer question from the media. Wow.

Hopefully this loss will only make them better. Sometimes you need to lose to really want to win.

I have a statistical question. How many designed running plays have we gained over 5 yards in the past few games, or this season? Not including QB scrambles.

Wasn’t last week average like 1.5 yards per play. I think we only had one or two plays this week that were over 5 yards.

It seems the short and out passes are the bread and butter right now.

just one thing to say on the game today

To all my fellow TSAIKOS It is not the coaches, players or fans fault for this years loses, because look at the following:

    Georgia watched live in person
    Florida watched live on TV
    Weber St. followed on blog
Oregon S. watched live on TV
San Jose St. watched live on TV
    Fresno St. followed on blog
    Louisiana Tech followed on blog
Boise St watched live on TV
    Nevada followed on blog
Utah State watched live on TV

Being so Pomai will not view another game live for the rest of this season!!!!

    9 – 4 season will be a shoein.

    GO WARRIORS

just passed out in front of computer again,
woke up when our cat asked for a snack in
    a little boys voice.

    this delusion really startled me,
we don’t even own a cat.

    Pomai,
i heartily doubt that you, personally are
    the reason UH loses.
however, i would like to commend you for
standing up and taking the blame.

    28-21 LizKauai

Just got home a little while ago.
#1 son and I went fishing and caught a bunch of halalu! What a great way to clear the mind and prepare for next Saturday!

And wow, did we have fun at our game party at Brenda and Paulie’s house! A bunch of the guys took their feelings to the golf course afterwards and launched a few drives.

We stayed back and pigged out on lobster and sang karaoke.

The I went fishing. Now I must moemoe!

    Sweet Warrior Dreams!

    Good morning Tsaikos…

Drink plenty of water and take a couple tylenols. It’ll pass.

    Future opponents:
SJSU beat Idaho 30-24 yesterday. It was 30-10 going into the 4th qtr so I’m pretty sure Idaho’s last two TDs came with SJSU backups in the game. Cincy’s QB Pike is fully healed from his September injury and playing really well. NMSU? They beat NV on the road but lost at home 49-0 to Boise. Which team will we see next week? WSU is just terrible.

Kalbi for next week’s tailgate at NMSU. Gotta keep the rice warm during the 6-hr drive from San Angelo. Engine block?

    LV-
    #658 is a classic. 🙂

    Pomai-
    38-7.

My guess for all other contests: 6.

It’s Official: Fred VonAppen reincarnated (Fat Mack) is back. Except for Funaki, this year’s team must be the worst team the UH has fielded in the past 10 years. Leave Alexander in as starter. Keep the losing streak alive. While you’re at it, bring Graunke back so he can demonstrate further his perfected loser techniques. Finally, bring the other guy in to and let him demonstrate what is painfully obvious to all: the receivers and the O Line suck.

It doesn’t matter who QBs the team, if the line will not block and if the receivers will not hold on to the ball, even the best QB in the country will look like an a s s. Poor Funaki.

To all you Polynesian warriors out there thinking about playing for UH: don’t do it. Go play for one of the Pac 10 teams. You will be treated fairly by the Pac 10 coaches. The UH will put you on the bench in favor of community college guys, for no good reason. UH has community college coaches and it shows.

  669. uhhoopsdragon November 2, 2008 4:34 pm

    Stephen,
Wright-Jackson needs to line up in a power I position. He has proven to be ineffective on either side of the QB. It would be quite intriguing to see Inoke and Wright-Jackson lined up behind the QB.

    Aloha, Wes
