QB Moniz on Maxwell watch list

Quarterback Bryant Moniz is among several players on the watch list for the Maxwell Award as the nation’s top college football player.

Maxwell watch list.

The freshman football recruits have checked in for today’s first day of UH’s bridge session (which leads to the start of training camp) and Summer Session II.

Today, they also will attend an orientation class and undergo medical examinations. Once they receive clearance, they may participate in the Warriors’ official offseason conditioning program (under coordinators Tommy Heffernan and Grant Steen). They also are free to participate in the 7-on-7 drills run by the players.

The new Warriors will find a helpful tutor in quarterback Cayman Shutter.

In unsupervised workouts last month, Shutter mentored the new receivers, detailing routes and showing them techniques on how to break open.

“It’s good for the whole program to get everyone on the same page as fast as possible,” said Shutter, who will be a third-year sophomore this season. “The offense depends on everyone knowing what to do, top to bottom. It’s nothing but work that’s going to help everyone from the top of the depth chart to the bottom.”

Shutter credits offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich and receivers coach Mouse Davis, the creator of UH’s version of the four-side offense.

“I learned everything I know from Rolo or Mouse,” Shutter said. “It’s easy saying what they say verbatim.”

In football, Shutter is bilingual. He understands the terminology of the West Coast Offense and run-and-shoot (four-wide) system.

“Coming from Punahou, I had to learn more of the West Coast style, which is NFL compatible,” Shutter said. “A lot of teams operate on the same terminology.”

He said the dual background might be helpful if he chooses to coach.

“I love the game,” he said. “I love everything involved with it. If coaching is in my future, I would be really happy with it.”

    Welcome young Warriors!!!

  7. Bugaz July 5, 2011 8:07 am

Is there a list of gentlemen that made it and unfortunates that did not?

  8. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:08 am

    Hi Tsaikos!

    Happy aloha Tuesday!

Thanks for the great anniversary wishes.

Ocean House is a wonderful restaurant.

    Beautiful view of Waikiki Beach.

    And delicious grinds.

Click on my name if you want to see pics of the food we ordered last night.

  9. Bugaz July 5, 2011 8:09 am

Also welcome to the 2 Basketball Warriors that made it to Manoa as well. Excited about Bball too!

  10. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:10 am

    ST,

I can just imagine how the young freshmen must feel, coming to UH for the second summer session.

    So exciting!

    So scary, too!

  11. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:12 am

Mike Edwards is still taking a class on the Mainland. He arrives the last week of July.

  12. Bugaz July 5, 2011 8:15 am

Hope Mike Edwards comes in with a positive attitude and makes everybody better

  13. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 8:15 am

thanks for sharing your evening with us

  14. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:22 am

Edwards, Penetito and Harding are the only ones not in town yet.

  15. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:30 am

    ST,

are freshmen athletes REQUIRED to stay in DORMS their 1st year at UH?

  16. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:37 am

Penitito and Harding arrive last week of July, too.

  17. mctruck July 5, 2011 8:38 am

    just2say, goodmorning, Tsaikos…..check-in, check-out……..phhhhhhht!!

  18. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:38 am

    Gigi:

No, they don’t have to stay in the dorms. But it works out better that way, especially for the Mainland players who might not have contacts for off-campus housing.

  19. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:41 am

    Gigi:

It’s an easier transition to start during the summer.

  23. Slugger July 5, 2011 8:48 am

    Good morning, gang!

Great leadership, Cayman! Hope I can get out there to watch soon.

  24. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:50 am

    Slugger:

It’s iffy whether there will be 7-on-7 drills today.

However, you could go to the airport to greet Greg Salas, who arrives today.

  25. Pride. July 5, 2011 8:54 am

Congratulations to Gigi and David on your 31st wedding anniversary! Mahalo for the awesome pics.

  26. Slugger July 5, 2011 8:54 am

ST ~ Are you going to the airport?

Do the guys practice every weekday, or only every other day which is more like the regular practice schedule?

  27. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:55 am

They didn’t practice last Thursday, but I think that’s because it was the day before the end of Summer Session I (and the holiday weekend).

  28. Pride. July 5, 2011 8:57 am

#22 – Everything looked ono ‘Kid’. Especially liked that Seafood Linguine in the lobster cream sauce. They don’t serve that at my usual prime rib place at Ray’s Cafe on North King street in Kalihi.

  29. Pride. July 5, 2011 8:59 am

Isn’t Cayman Shutter only one generation removed from the author of the West Coast offense?

  30. Pride. July 5, 2011 9:01 am

Although some say that Sid Gilman and Don Coryell were the original West Coast offense gurus. I think most people recognize Bill Walsh as the guru. Not sure. Just kind guessing. Gotta google all of this info.

  31. wafan July 5, 2011 9:02 am

    Mr. Tsai . . .

How about this one of Mr. Touchdown? Begin at the 2:10 mark.

    I like the video.

But, alas, with all UH events … can the MC stop talking while the band is playing?!?

At least the MC should sing or rap. But yap, yap, yap.

    But I digress.

  33. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 9:08 am

    Where did the banner go?

I want a chance to win $1,000 gift card from Wal-Mart.

  34. wafan July 5, 2011 9:16 am

Thank goodness that irritating banner is gone. For as often as I “won” a $1000 gift card I would be the proud owner of WafanMart.

  35. Pride. July 5, 2011 9:18 am

    West Coast Offense:

Bill Walsh/ Daryl Kan/ Cayman Shutter

    Run & Shoot:

Tiger Ellison/ Mouse Davis/ Cayman Shutter

    June Jone’s Four Wide Offense:

June Jones/ Nick Rolovich/ Cayman Shutter

Cayman Shutter is pretty darn close to the originators of three very impressive offensive systems. He will be a valuable resource in the years to come.

  36. wafan July 5, 2011 9:25 am

Sometimes it seems some of the folks some power in Hawai’i just do not know how to behave and act like it is a big time program. If they visited good programs to emulate they might learn something. Like pr, marketing, advance tickets sales, how not to treat everyone like a felon upon entry (or is that just at the stadium?), better crowd control (alcohol), parking, game promotions, . . .

I guess that is why they have all the blah, blah, blah while the band is working hard out on the field. Just do not know how to let the kids connect with kids.

  37. Kekoa July 5, 2011 9:52 am

Gigi ~ Glad to see that you & hubby enjoyed your dinner. Congrats for 31 years of married bliss (?).

Now behave yourself today, so you can make it to number 32!

  38. LizKauai July 5, 2011 10:02 am

Mahalo, Ruth Roberts – great, catchy tunes!

Warriors are something to get excited about this year. Welcome Frosh!

    Congrats to gigi…

Wish I could be there to support the Coach Mack event. Hope some naysayers take advantage of the opportunity to meet the coach, get some answers and exercise the right to jump on the bandwagon in support of the Warriors or go support something else… 😎

    HiHo!

  39. tommui July 5, 2011 11:09 am

ST: I think my earlier message got SMU’d – probably my greeting “Bon Jour” did not pass the censor or whatever.

RSVPing for tomorrow Chat with Mack.

  40. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 11:15 am

    Tom,

it will be nice to see you at the chat.

I know that WDoc intends to be there, also.

Any other Tsaikos attending Mack’s Chat?

  41. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 11:16 am

I bought Tiger Ellison’s book several years ago.

Interesting stuff. Don’t think he intended for his offense to take off the way it did.

  42. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 11:21 am

    Broken “Promise”

Promise Amadi is going by his first name now: Chinedu.

  43. warriorsun July 5, 2011 11:36 am

knowing the two systems–4-spread and west coast– will be helpful to cayman if he pursues coaching after his playing days are pau. nothing wrong with a blend either. a hybrid. our system does not attack the perimeter with a run, at least rolo doesnt employ it like oregon and troy. joe gibbs ran a successful hybrid by utilizing a TE in the slot position. it gave his run game more liftoff and created a mismatch in size and speed. hope cayman pursues the profession. we need intellect and thinkers on the sidelines.

  44. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 5, 2011 11:45 am

I will be at the chat.

  45. ai-eee-soos July 5, 2011 11:55 am

re # 42: “joe gibbs ran a successful hybrid by utilizing a TE in the slot position. it gave his run game more liftoff and created a mismatch in size and speed.”

If I remember correctly, Gibbs called this position an ” H-back”.

Over the years, I’ve posted here about utilizing an H-back – using a big slot or big wide receiver who can block.

This year’s team has such a guy – Darius Bright.

Yeah, I agree with your last sentence.

  46. ai-eee-soos July 5, 2011 11:56 am

    that’s re #43, in # 45.

  47. d1shima July 5, 2011 12:04 pm

Tiger Ellison’s offense was way more run-oriented.

Cut-blocks taught as integral part of the offense.

Would we ever see the Lonesome Polecat?

  48. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 12:09 pm

Heard Ron Jaworski’s book is supposed to be good at explaining schemes.

  49. d1shima July 5, 2011 12:11 pm

What gets overlooked a lot is how well guys like The Former Coach understand defensive football.

  50. d1shima July 5, 2011 12:12 pm

    …strategically.

  51. jm2375 July 5, 2011 12:22 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos!

Welcome to the new Warriors! Work hard in the classroom and on the field.

  52. warriorsun July 5, 2011 12:26 pm

    #45.

    ur on it.

agree about bright. he didnt impress in the spring game as a wideout, routewise or otherwise….we shall see what camp unveils. other than royce, it should be wide-open for auditions. if they cant decide on a final four, then rotate until there is seperation or go with packages. miah is the closest i see as a second starter, but alot depends on staying healthy. 13 games with one-bye is brutal stuff. we need depth.

  53. d1shima July 5, 2011 12:27 pm

I expected a “Yabba Dabba Do!” at the beginning of that Mets’ song.

  54. mctruck July 5, 2011 12:29 pm

Congratulations, Gigi and patnah, on 31yrs. of marriage….I really admire couples who have an enduring marriage….many more. Gotta be scientific formula involved, bwaaahahaha!!

  55. al July 5, 2011 12:31 pm

are the mets still in triple a?

  56. warriorsun July 5, 2011 12:31 pm

yo, how many jaworski’s does it take to screw on a light-bulb?

    jk.

  57. al July 5, 2011 12:31 pm

methinks master tsai is busy interviewing the new guys.

  58. al July 5, 2011 12:32 pm

56…that was actually very witty and funny.

  59. al July 5, 2011 12:34 pm

d1…this is true about offensive geniuses, they have such a great understanding about the defenses that they know exactly how to carve out chunks of turf at a time.

    UNLV TICKET UPDATE

I just called the ticket office and single game seats will be on sale August 1st. I plan on being the first one in line when the box office opens. Right now, there are about 76 ticket requests on SteveM’s site http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/las2011.html I will probably get 100 tix for any last minute requests. PLEASE, email SteveM with your ticket count. You can always email me directly – rich2176 over at yahoo, but Steve is much more organized than I. I will be sending out confirmation emails to everyone the first week of August after I get the tix.

Hope everyone had a safe & happy 4th. BTW, yesterday was Rob Fukuzaki’s B-Day.

  61. al July 5, 2011 12:35 pm

i’d also groom him to be the next semeri ulufale, the human wedge buster.

  66. wafan July 5, 2011 1:14 pm

    How is Chinedu’s name pronounced?

    Is it chin-ed-u, shi-ne-du, shin-e-du, . . .???

  67. wafan July 5, 2011 1:16 pm

    Sure miss ltuhf.

  68. Hawaiian July 5, 2011 1:25 pm

Are you gonna post pics of all the new players/recruits?

  69. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 5, 2011 1:35 pm

ltuhf, mrs. ltuhf and lemon mochi bars = #1.

  70. AlaWai July 5, 2011 1:38 pm

I look to Cayman as a worthy successor to Moniz. He has the football and off-field smarts to run any scheme UH chooses. He reminds me of Rolo. Not too this and not too that. Just right. He also has a great attitude. I picture the Warriors laying it all out for him.

  71. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 5, 2011 1:46 pm

Is Cayman currently the 2nd the Moniz or is it the other guy.

  72. warriorsun July 5, 2011 1:49 pm

    #61.

nah, it doesnt fit my dna. but, i do talk to the horses and listen to their whispers.

especially when mr ed has a brew or two.

mac is mac, prolly the most straight-forward coach we have had at UH in terms of answering questions. most of the answers to questions fans ask are in the pudding–what u see is what u get. dont expect surprises and trust ur eyes. as an example, since the 2008 season (when mac took over) and all the hoopala over alexander the great and the qb carousel–what happened to surprise or exceed ur expectations? another example is our net-recruits–less than advertised, but more walk-ons making camp in the 11th hour. anytime you have 3-4 kickers in camp, you know the talent is thin all-around. not to mention an army of unknown QBs.

i believe that aranda has shown some stuff. being on the top in the fbs in net-take overs and interceptions in his inaugural year went relatively unnoticed. naturally, everyone was aware of rolo’s exploits in rating #1 in passing. which do u think is more significant?

rolo has alot to account this season. new OL recycled from 5th year seniors, 3-top receivers to replace and a new RB with zero carries and nada blocks in d1a football….

on the otherhand, aranda has grown his units stronger with experience and spot recruiting and returns his front-middle at least 5 deep (DTs). his lbs are stronger and if his corners can play solo–watch out!

these are the horses u want to trade whispers with and ask a few questions….

  73. al July 5, 2011 2:04 pm

the players themselves believe that sterling jackson will be silver.

  74. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 2:18 pm

Cayman saw and tutored. Seriously, good for the guy. Look forward to seeing him get a few more game reps.

  75. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 5, 2011 2:19 pm

So do you folks like coaches who are super positive and never have a bad thing to say about the game, players, coaches, program etc.

    or

a coach who is “tell it like it is” don’t care about sugar coating issues or people etc and willing to hurt peoples feelings if it means getting the point across.

been watching some coach interviews online and some of them are very entertaining.

  76. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 2:21 pm

    Positivity is a plus.

Meanwhile I wonder what’s going on with the QB nobody’s asking about.

Good question to ask tomorrow night.

  77. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 5, 2011 2:26 pm

Did anyone watch the ESPN special “Difference Makers: Life Lessons with Paterno & Krzyzewski” a few nights ago?

  78. Slugger July 5, 2011 2:35 pm

When I met Chinedu, he told me he was called Ahmad or Ahmadi. Looking forward to seeing him out there.

    GO WARRIORS!

  79. Slugger July 5, 2011 2:39 pm

At one time it was more like…Bryant, Shane, David, Cayman…but it’s a new season, ya nevah know…

  80. A-House July 5, 2011 2:49 pm

Maybe Caymn will be like June Jones – not play much, but a darn good offensive mind!

Asmuch as I like Shane Austin, for the sake of the program, UH should be gromming Moniz’s replacement for 2012 by recognizing him as #2 and taking most of the 2nd reps.

  81. Kevin July 5, 2011 2:51 pm

    AL,

    CHECK YOUR MAIL.

This should answer a question you had a while black… errr I mean a while back.

  82. Couch potato July 5, 2011 3:00 pm

    GO FRESHMEN!

A-House. groom who as #2 in 2012? can’t be Austin.

  83. Pride. July 5, 2011 3:09 pm

#63 – I don’t think there can ever be another Semeri Ulufale. He is a legend that will never be duplicated.

  87. Pride. July 5, 2011 3:13 pm

Niko was special. He could play d-tackle, end and block kicks.

  89. dennis halloran July 5, 2011 3:15 pm

Just finished watching ESPN3 on the internet, A CFL game in Regina and the quality was fabulous. If that is how we mainlanders have to watch UH this year, I’ll be OK

  90. Couch potato July 5, 2011 3:15 pm

    maybe emulate instead of duplicate.

  91. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 3:16 pm

Niko played at a time when Farrington and Castle had an intense rivalry.

I’m old, and lost quite a few brain cells: What was the reason behind that rivalry?

  92. Pride. July 5, 2011 3:17 pm

Among the best offensive linemen from the University of Hawaii:

    Jim Kalili – Governor

    Jesse Sapolu – Governor

    Vince Manuwai – Governor

  93. Pride. July 5, 2011 3:20 pm

#88 – The fact that he could bench 500 lbs. and run a 4.5 forty was kind of intimidating too. Somebody that strong who can also catch you? Whoah baby!

  94. Pride. July 5, 2011 3:20 pm

#91 – Coach’s house getting burned to the ground? Something like that?

  95. Pride. July 5, 2011 3:22 pm

Was that worse than the fight and rock throwing incident after a Kaiser – Farrington game in 1976?

  96. warriorsun July 5, 2011 3:25 pm

    #91.

“What was the reason behind that rivalry?”

    rumbles under the bleachers.

  97. al July 5, 2011 3:26 pm

you are right those two are legends in their own time as well as now.

i’ll bet both could’ve played without helmets.

  98. al July 5, 2011 3:27 pm

niko ran the 100 yard dash in the states. i don’t recall how he finished but i believe no less than third.

  99. warriorsun July 5, 2011 3:29 pm

i dont recall niko playing de, although he did play at ng, dt and against nebraska @ aloha, he lined up at lb behind mark to counter the cornhuskers all-american center…. al was the de. i maybe wrong–it was long ago.

  100. Laura July 5, 2011 3:30 pm

Do not forget about Niko’s younger brother Al Noga. The first Warrior to be a 1st Team All-American.

#99 – Quite honestly, as good as Dave Rimington was, I believe that the real the stud on that line was Dean Steinkuhler, the offensive guard.

  114. Kekoa July 5, 2011 4:44 pm

Mahalo Rich for scoring a block of tickets for the Tsai-ko faithful.

Rasu Begasu ~ Sad to hear that the RSVP for K-Kall wasn’t enuff to lay down a rez. I will prolly meet Wess’side Warrior & his wife at the airport. From there, maybe we can get together somewhere with the rest of the Tsaiko Tsingers and storm the stage at the MGM or Mandalay Bay. Hehehe…

Can’t wait to see what the *entertainment only* betting line will be for the UNLV game.

  115. Bulla July 5, 2011 4:47 pm

Rimington was everything they billed him to be, but Steinkuhler was a monster, under rated and under noticed, but should have been giving packets of Maple Syrup for the pancakes he was making on the field…….

  116. Bulla July 5, 2011 4:50 pm

he won the Outland after Rimington won it 2 times if my memory hasn’t failed me……

  117. Pride. July 5, 2011 4:52 pm

#115 – Eh, no stick up for Rimington just because he looks like you.

  118. Curt July 5, 2011 5:09 pm

    A-House

#80 June Junes didn’t play much while at UH. So he transferred to Portland St for his senior year where he started and I believe he led the nation in passing under Coach Mouse. And interestingly enough, June and Portland St played against UH in that year. Hard to believe that the UH defense which included Cliff Laboy and others were going hard to take down this QB and the prolific Portland St passing attack.

  119. Curt July 5, 2011 5:14 pm

    Pride & Bulla

I remember Dave Rimington…a great player. But the player I remember most from Nebraska was Johnny Rogers. That guy can fly with the football.

  120. Bulla July 5, 2011 5:17 pm

Curt – too much Johhny Walker erased the memories of Johnny Rogers, haha

Pride – Wow, laulau, you had to go there brother…. no worries…. if I looked like ‘the rock’ and you, i wouldn’t have so many issues i guess 🙂

  122. kalani July 5, 2011 5:20 pm

#70 I agree with your assessment plus out of all the QBs we have, Cayman is the guy who can really make all the throws. I can see our offense clicking at a higher level with him at the helm.

  123. Pride. July 5, 2011 5:25 pm

#121 – Do you write term papers?

  124. Pride. July 5, 2011 5:25 pm

#122 – Did you gorw up at Ponderosa Pines?

  125. wafan July 5, 2011 5:27 pm

Way to go Cayman! Get on the same page with the receivers then strut your stuff when the time comes.

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  126. wafan July 5, 2011 5:28 pm

    Pride. . . .

I can write term papers. They are not good for anything. But I can write ’em!

  127. Laura July 5, 2011 5:33 pm

Curt, If I recall correctly, Johnny Rogers made the Rainbow defense, especially special teams, look silly. #119

Chad Owens, is the only player that I have seen come anywhere close to the type of player Johnny Rogers was on special teams.

  128. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 5:35 pm

Johnny Rogers had such speed that having an angle on him didn’t matter

  129. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 5:36 pm

Wasn’t Bobby Moore (Ahmad Rahshad) similar to Johnny Rogers?

Is the burger chain Johnny Rockets named after Johnny Rogers performance on the field?

  130. warriorsun July 5, 2011 5:38 pm

remingtom made a media impact bc he was a 300 pounder with muscle (rare at that time), a weight-lifting fanatic that promoted the cornhusker weight training facility and held the nebraska pancake records until raiola broke them. mark tuinei started nose-up against him to shield niko who was behind at mlb.

on one play, remington showed off his stuff and took them both out. what a battle.

niko was crushed by remington on many plays but kept getting up to go again. niko made plays but remington was from another planet. the only other game i saw in which a center dominated in such a manner at aloha was a post season game featuring colorado and washington–the huskies had a local player named olin kreutz snapping. he tossed around the buffs ng and lb as if they were rag dolls. unreal.

  131. Laura July 5, 2011 5:50 pm

Chopsueyboy, I was thinking, does the condo that you have your store in, have control over what you do on the public sidewalk in front of your store?

If not, suggestion to think about, why not try using a walking human billboard advertisement.

  132. wafan July 5, 2011 5:54 pm

Anyone watched the Travel Channel? Bizarre Foods was in Hawai’i. First thing on the bizarre food menu? Spam musubi. Geez. What is so bizarre about that?

  133. Kevin July 5, 2011 5:59 pm

    Wafan,

I think that episode is a re-run. Heard about it. Andrew Zimmern HATES SPAM, well, he essentially HATES processed factory made food anyway.

In that episode, he liked Opihi though.

Zimmern went to American Samoa and filmed an episode there and LOVED all the food.

Lately, I’ve been watching “Bizarre Foods” more than “Man vs Food”.

  134. Laura July 5, 2011 6:00 pm

Wafan, Spam Musubi, bizarre????? I thought you were going to mention something like opihi or something.

  135. Laura July 5, 2011 6:01 pm

Wafan, you want something bizarre, ever try natto?

  136. wafan July 5, 2011 6:05 pm

    Kevin . . .

Used to like M v F until it seemed to be just about over indulging and super spicy foods. Always liked Bizarre Foods because of the cultural information. Cool way to learn about cultures through foods.

  137. Curt July 5, 2011 6:06 pm

    Laura

#128 Good memory. In fact, it was my recall of his kick returns in Honolulu Stadium that stood out. He was definitely a rocket. Only an anti-missile missile could have taken him down; problem was that they weren’t invented yet.

  138. Kevin July 5, 2011 6:08 pm

    Wafan,

It’s called “MAN versus FOOD”. Indulgence is necessary with a show with a title like that!!! 😆

But yeah, it got boring since it was only about quantity and the food selection was real “vanilla”. Over-sized burgers… 50 hot wings… a pizza the size of a super large stingray… *yawn*

  139. wafan July 5, 2011 6:10 pm

    Laura . . .

Opihi is definitely not bizarre. Natto, on the other hand, if you can get over the smell is pretty good, too!

Growing up there not much in the way of food phases me. Well, except Limburger, Haggis, and Lutefisk. Ugh.

  140. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 6:11 pm

    Laura

Unfortunately, the condo has a lot of control

although we do sneak human billboards in the past…

Mr. Waffledog has made several appearances

and making use of the red lights at the intersection

we’ve passed out free roses with drink coupons

    flyers

  141. wafan July 5, 2011 6:12 pm

If M v F was serious they would show up at a cc.

    Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  142. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 6:14 pm

Watched “The Originals” with Emerill in New Orleans

brought back memories of Sugar Bowl and Cafe de Monde’s

    beignets

    http://food.blogferry.com/cookingchanneltv/The-Originals-Emeril-Heads-Home-to-NOLA.html

  143. wafan July 5, 2011 6:14 pm

    Gosh!

Growing up there not much in the way of food phases me. = Growing up there, there is not much in the way of food that phases me . . .

Like I said; I can write term papers. They just are not worth anything. HA!

  144. d1shima July 5, 2011 6:16 pm

Partial to D,D and D myself….got the secret of Rainbow DI gravy from that show. 😉

  145. wafan July 5, 2011 6:23 pm

    d1 . . .

Is the secret just to keep adding stuff to the same pot without ever having washed the pot in all those years?

  146. wafan July 5, 2011 6:26 pm

For not having done anything except sleep in the breeze of a fan and perspire all day I sure am tired.

  147. wafan July 5, 2011 6:26 pm

    Nytal!

  148. wafan July 5, 2011 6:26 pm

HA! Where was GG during the food talk?

  149. Laura July 5, 2011 6:33 pm

Wafan, probably at another restuarant having dinner. She is going to turn out to be the Tsaiko restuarant food critic eventually.

  150. Kekoa July 5, 2011 6:35 pm

CSBoy ~ We need an excellent shop like yours out on da Wessai. Have you ever considered a move out here?

There is a new subdivision that is opening that is designed for family style living. Walking paths from place to place. An owner of a shop such as yours would be able to occupy the area above your store. Kind of a return to the ‘Mom & Pop’ stores of the past.

My eye doctah, (Dr. Chen) s moving into just such a unit next week. I saw the photos of her place. Wow! No wondah she keeps telling me I need more appointments. I think I paid for the entire 1st floor!

  151. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 7:25 pm

    Kekoa

wished we could afford to move

took over a year of searching before our lease ended at airport location

and nothing was available that we wanted and settled for where we are

probably cost too much to build out again although willing to keep options open

  152. Laura July 5, 2011 7:26 pm

CSB, what airport location were you at before?

  153. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 7:26 pm

Alas, there were no workouts today.

    So I went to eat.

  154. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 7:27 pm

    d1shima

    saw that episode about Rainbows

I learned why their gravy doesn’t agree with me

    I’m allergic to shellfish

I’ll stick to their BBQ Beef

  155. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 7:32 pm

    Pride:

I was at that Kaiser-Farrington game.

Scott Chan had five chances to sneak it in (there was a penalty). I swear he was in the end zone at least twice. Was there a guy named Mickey Scanlan who made some big plays? Can’t remember. I do remember that was the first night I had a ZipMin at Zippy’s.

  156. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 7:34 pm

I’m surprised that when Scott Chan took over the stadium, he didn’t make the field 99 yards long.

  157. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 7:37 pm

Whatever happened to Ronnie Bond, the running back from Kalaheo?

Or Michael Chang-Wo, a Campbell athlete who was probably the meanest high school player I remember?

    Or Brad Bonner?

    Or my youth?

  158. Slugger July 5, 2011 7:48 pm

I could tell there was no practice this afternoon. Saw Darius Bright with his cutie little girl walking into Long’s about 5 pm. Such a good Dad!

  159. Slugger July 5, 2011 7:53 pm

Bizzare Foods in Grand Marais, MN! I wuz there! Pretty place. Didn’t eat the bizzare foods, though.

Guess I could go to practice tomorrow afternoon…

  160. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 7:54 pm

    Hey, Slugger, that’s his son.

  161. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 7:54 pm

Trouble is Richard Torres and Aaron Brown are off island.

    They’re the leaders.

  162. Laura July 5, 2011 8:07 pm

    ST, where are they? #161

  163. Slugger July 5, 2011 8:14 pm

Darius was carrying a kiddo with two braids and it looked like a little girl. I thot he had a daughter. No matter, I’ll go to practice…

We’ll see who keeps it going.

  164. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:17 pm

The only TV programs I watch are sports-related, though I used to watch Food Network.

  165. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:21 pm

Reason why I hesitate to throw dinner parties.

    Imagine this scenario:

1 guy eats only fish due to his heart disease (won’t eat chicken).

2nd guy hates seafood (will eat chicken).

    BEST SOLUTION?

Have the dinner party at a restaurant like Longhi’s, where they can order whatever they want.

LESS STRESS FOR THE HOSTESS (me).

  166. SteveM July 5, 2011 8:23 pm

ST — are you going to confirm RSVP receipts for Mack’s Q&A tomorrow night?

Bet it looks like a cattle call roster.

I’ll be driving the Kid, and we’re wondering about fuud already… 🙄

  167. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:25 pm

SteveM is da guy who hates seafood…

    lol

  168. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:26 pm

    Slugger:

I made the same mistake, too.

    Until he called him Junior.

  169. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:27 pm

    SteveM

    I’m just taking the count.

    Not publicizing names.

  170. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:28 pm

    Torres is in California.

  171. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:32 pm

    ST,

how long do you expect this chat to be?

  172. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:36 pm

    Gigi:

    No idea.

  173. d1shima July 5, 2011 8:36 pm

    Prayers for LizK.

  174. Laura July 5, 2011 8:38 pm

ST, what is he doing in California, thought he was from the North Shore? #170

  175. Laura July 5, 2011 8:42 pm

ST, the UHAD should have an all Head Coaches Q & A symposium with the public in the conference room.

  176. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:45 pm

    Why?

  177. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:45 pm

    d1, what happened to Liz?

  178. wait a minute July 5, 2011 8:47 pm

Laura wants to hassle Coolen and Shoji

  179. Laura July 5, 2011 8:49 pm

So people could ask the different Head Coaches questions in one evening instead of multiple evenings throughout the year. #176

  180. Laura July 5, 2011 8:51 pm

Wait a minute, why would I want to hassle a Hall of Fame coach. Would really like to know if he has any more Danielson’s, Hewitt’s, or Croson’s, on the horizon tho. Would truly love to see him win at least one more National Championship.

  181. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 8:53 pm

But you’re not attending tomorrow’s session, so would it make a difference?

  182. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:56 pm

    ST,

I get so tired of this blog when there is fighting.

    Guys, let’s keep it pleasant.

    Above all, BE KIND.

  183. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 8:57 pm

    KINDNESS IS A BLESSING.

AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO TO CHURCH TO KNOW THAT.

  184. Stephen Tsai July 5, 2011 9:06 pm

I’m open to suggestions on formats. But it’s pretty extraordinary to get a head coach to meet with a group, so if I can get a commitment to a certain amount in attendance, I might pursue it. Tomorrow is the test. If turnout isn’t very high, I’ll move on to the next project.

  185. Laura July 5, 2011 9:14 pm

ST, if all the Head Coaches were there in attendance I would. The first time there is one like it, I will be there, most diffinitely.

  186. Laura July 5, 2011 9:15 pm

ST, are you the one putting this on with Coach Mac?

  187. Iwonderwhytheyhateme July 5, 2011 9:20 pm

Having just one coach at a time seems to make more sense to me then all of them at once.

  188. chopsueyboy July 5, 2011 9:23 pm

I would prefer one coach at a time too

  189. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:24 pm

Ronnie Bond… yeah, what ever happened to him?

  190. d1shima July 5, 2011 9:25 pm

I would prefer one personality per name

  191. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:27 pm

    190 –

😆 You and me both, brother! 😆

  192. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:30 pm

Lookin’ forward to the Coach chat. Camp is right round the corner.

  193. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:31 pm

    Gettin close here, huh?

  194. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:31 pm

    194

  195. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:34 pm

Deadliest Catch is showing an “After the Catch” episode from the Shack in Koko Marina. Jake Shimabukuro is playin’ for the salty old sea dogs.

  196. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:35 pm

That’s right… I said “The Shack” in Koko Marina. Like in Hawaii Kai…

  197. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:36 pm

    Cue lurkers…

  198. tommui July 5, 2011 9:37 pm

    Waiting for Godot?

  199. tommui July 5, 2011 9:37 pm

    Maybe AL?

  200. tommui July 5, 2011 9:38 pm

    Forget it – 200!

  201. Da Punchbowl Kid July 5, 2011 9:40 pm

    Godot…? This crowd? 😆

  202. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 9:42 pm

To me, the deadliest catch would be — JAWS

  203. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 9:44 pm

If you catch JAWS, you have to dump it because there is a ban on shark fin soup.

Forgot the penalty, but I think it was pretty severe.

  204. Kevin July 5, 2011 10:03 pm

“Wait a minute” has GREAT instincts.

  205. al July 5, 2011 10:10 pm

well, we’ll see what kind of turnout will be there for the mack chat. how many questions should we come equipped with?

let’s hope we don’t talk too much about his horses.

  206. d1shima July 5, 2011 10:11 pm

    Tough call, SteveM.

Grind before the Q & A and risk Insulin-induced Mental Shutdown; wait ’til after and risk Tsaiko-style ADD.

  207. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:12 pm

    #201 ~ I think I read it in high school…

  208. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:14 pm

    al,

The horse isn’t his; so don’t ask.

Hope Bryant gets the respect he deserves for leading the nation in offensive numbers.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  209. d1shima July 5, 2011 10:18 pm

The New Era Bowl has been in existence since 1990. Initially the game was referred to as the “Hesei Bowl” before it changed to the “New Era Bowl” in 2002. The game features Japan collegiate all-stars playing with former American collegiate players. Two American colleges are invited each year along with six former players and current coaches.

What school is represented on the other team?

  210. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:20 pm

Back to this morning’s quips: I love that Mets song! and yes, I agree with d1shima about the ‘yabba dabba doo’. 😀

  211. d1shima July 5, 2011 10:20 pm

The Japanese all-stars install the visiting American college’s base offense and defense and the game is played with former players from the visiting colleges.

Inoke Funaki is “installing” the RnS on an all-star team of players from Japan? 😯

  212. d1shima July 5, 2011 10:22 pm

    Can you say, “Cho-ee-su ra-oto”?

  213. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:25 pm

During my 5-1/2 yrs of living in New York City, I never watched the Mets and Yankees – not even on TV.

    and I still don’t.

You have to have the patience of Job to watch baseball. lol

  214. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:28 pm

so my SIL, who lives in Boston, always roots for the Yankees, not the Red Sox.

  215. al July 5, 2011 10:29 pm

slugger…i would never ask about horses.

  216. Ralph July 5, 2011 10:31 pm

UNLV will be the opponent in Japan

  217. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:32 pm

…especially if you didn’t want to hear about them, al. 🙂

  218. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:34 pm

I thought it was UNLV in that Japan game. Too lazy to Google it.

Sorry I can’t go to China to support the BB team. Wonder how they’re doing on the promotion?

  219. d1shima July 5, 2011 10:35 pm

    Su-witchi?

I hope they don’t have a 5’10” receiver who can ‘oop it over all the 5’4″ DB’s! 😎

  220. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:37 pm

    lol

  221. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:39 pm

wonder if UH has hired Panda Travel to put together the China tour.

  222. d1shima July 5, 2011 10:43 pm

    Go route?

Solli to ask-u, Coach-san, but what about first four routes?

  223. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:44 pm

    d1, flied lice?

  224. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:45 pm

Yes, Panda is arranging the China tour. You should go, gigi.

  225. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:47 pm

    slugger,

yeah, we have the money to go.

what keeps me from going is the polluted air.

    don’t want to get sick.

besides, hubby saw MIDNIGHT IN PARIS on Saturday.

Came home and said, We’re going to Paris!

  226. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:48 pm

You’re going to wear mu’u mu’u in Paris?! Sacre bleu!

  227. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:49 pm

    hahaha!!!

  228. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:49 pm

i think St Laurent would turn over in his grave if I wore baggy muus to Paris.

  229. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 10:50 pm

but, hey, maybe I’ll start a new trend in Paris.

    ALOHA WEAR.

  230. Slugger July 5, 2011 10:54 pm

    Night all!

  231. madeinhawaii July 5, 2011 11:07 pm

My wife went back to Paris last year, said there’s a Chinese take out at every corner now. She might have to go back for a couple of weeks next year to take care of some paperwork for her folks again.

  232. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 11:11 pm

    MIH,

I spent 2 weeks in Paris in 1969.

That was the 1st and last time for me.

I would LOVE to go back!

  233. genie bra July 5, 2011 11:20 pm

Hi there! I need to know exactly where I could get genie bra discount simply because I really like this particular stuff however I 23 something I do not have dollars to order it. Appreciate!

  234. Curt July 5, 2011 11:21 pm

    gigi

What was hubby’s opinion about the movie itself?

  235. madeinhawaii July 5, 2011 11:25 pm

    Gigi..

I went there in the Winter of ’84 … It was wet, cold, dark and gloomy. The Louvre closed for some new contruction and the Eiffel Tower was being cleaned up with scaffolding all around it, the trains went on strike… the fountains froze overnight… and gypsies were pick-pocketing everyone in sight. Thieves would hit the night trains looking for sleeping passengers riding overnight on Eurail passes. They jump in at a train stop… grab what they can…and jump off before the train departs.

I liked Granada, Spain much better.

  236. madeinhawaii July 5, 2011 11:27 pm

    g’night all… sleep tight.

  237. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 11:40 pm

    hi Curt!

    He liked the movie.

A friend told me she thought it was “pleasant but forgettable. Typical Woody Allen Movie.”

I rarely watch movies, so I have no opinion.

  238. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 11:42 pm

    MIH,

yeah, I saw Paris for 2 weeks in NOVEMBER 1969.

brrr. It was cold and raining.

Since then, I always travel in the summer.

Can wear muummu and sandals, no problemo.

  239. gigi-hawaii July 5, 2011 11:49 pm

BTW, why do so many people have a problem with me wearing a muumuu?

My aunt ridiculed me for wearing muus in Hong Kong in 2010 and in Tokyo in 2008 and in Seoul in 2002.

    WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

The muus are long and very modest.

    They don’t show my bulges.

You can’t say the same about pants and shirt.

    Re: #206

d1 — word on the street (near Isenberg) is that there’s gonna be a cattle call after. Plan accordingly. 🙂

gigi — nothing wrong with your muumuu. But you might need heels for formal parties.

ST… this “Chat with the Head Coach” is an awesome idea! And to have our head coach go along with it speaks volumes of you and your relationship with them! Wish I were there! Can’t wait for the after-action report, even if it is not in full detail!

There are certainly loads of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great level to convey up. I supply the ideas above as normal inspiration however clearly there are questions just like the one you convey up where an important thing will be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged round issues like that, however I’m sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Each boys and girls feel the impact of only a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

I’m considering enrolling in University of Pennsylvania (online)Ph.D. in Computer Info Systems. Does anyone think that this is a bad idea? Also, does an online Special Education from an established university carry the same stigma as an online Special Education from the for-profit schools? By the way, the only way anyone would know if I got the Masters in Nursing online is if I told them. There are no special identifiers on the Homework Help .

  426. Beachfront Condos For Rent July 24, 2011 5:49 pm

Does a condominium board have to change bylaws to include things already outlined in the Condo Property Act? For example, the Condo Property Act states that a condominium board can place dispossession of a tenant who is leasing a unit from an proprietor, if that tenant has terms or infringes a bylaw. Is this sufficient or must it besides be directly in this condo’s bylaws?
