Competing at the next level

If linebacker Dylan McCagg were to fill out a UH information sheet, he could list his vertical reach as 14,000 feet.

As part of his conditioning program, McCagg recently made the winding 15-mile hike up Colorado’s Mount Evans.

“It’s pretty high,” McCagg said of the trek. “There aren’t a lot of 240-pound mountain climbers, for sure. It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”

He said it took eight hours to ascend; three hours to descend.

“Mountain climbing is not a passion of mine,” he admitted. “I do it for exercise.”

McCagg, who was raised in Denver, is prepared for another journey when he joins the Warriors in a few weeks. He was an NCAA qualifier as a Kent Denver High School senior in 2008, and his junior college transcripts should be approved soon by UH’s admissions department.

“I’ll definitely be there before (the start of training) camp in August,” McCagg said.

McCagg, who is 6 feet 2, was a standout in football and lacrosse in high school. Kent Denver’s lacrosse team won the state title when McCagg was a senior. He never considered playing lacrosse in college.

“I wanted to play football,” he said.

He was a walk-on at SMU in 2008, former UH coach June Jones’ first season at the Dallas campus.

“I was on the scout team, and didn’t have too much interaction with (Jones),” McCagg recalled. “I talked to him once, and he told me I was in the wrong spot. He was a good coach. He’s really soft-spoken. He’s a smart guy.”

McCagg quit the team before the season ended. Later, he reclaimed his passion for football.

“I figured junior college was my best option,” he said.

He enrolled at San Diego Mesa College, where a Kent Denver graduate was on the coaching staff. McCagg was a two-year starter.

After the 2010 season, he received a scholarship offer from Division II schools. He waited, then received an offer from a I-AA school. Then he ran into UH defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, who was evaluating prospects on the West Coast. Soon after, Aranda called McCagg, saying the UH coaches were impressed with his football videos.

With no scholarships available, McCagg was asked to join UH as a preferred walk-on. He accepted

“I can’t wait to get out there,” said McCagg, who will compete as an outside linebacker. At San Diego Mesa, which ran a 4-3 scheme similar to the Warriors’, McCagg was used as  middle linebacker, weakside linebacker and defensive end. He will have two years to play two UH seasons.

Here’s his highlight video: Dylan McCagg.

  15. SteveM June 30, 2011 1:14 am

…or so I think Jay Dee is a new blog name. After almost 5 years, the first-name-only (or names that could be phonetically initials) result in many possibilities. For example, there is a “Jay” from 2006, a “Jay from Pearl City”, etc.

Some things indicate that Jay Dee has been around the blog a while. But short of an IP trace…again, Welcome to the blog, Jay Dee! 🙂

  23. mctruck June 30, 2011 3:58 am

Dylan McCagg…I like what I see!, has a good nose for the ball. Hope w/fingers crossed he does the same thing at D-1; like his size as well.

Keep going Chad Owens……so very happy with your success.

    Good luck to Dylan!

Hi Midnight! Looking forward to seeing and singing with you and Barbara and cheering for the Warriors at UNLV for sure!

Speaking of football, I hope to attend 3 home games at the end of the season. Debating on whether to pick up single tickets or getting season tickets this year. .???

  32. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 6:55 am

    ST,

what does the orange have to do with anything?

  33. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 6:55 am

    Go, Dylan!

    Go, Chad! (Loved the article.)

  34. Derek June 30, 2011 6:56 am

I like what I see on film about McCagg as he seems to explode at the point of contact. Moves his feet well and runs through creases to reach the ball carrier. Not too much film on pass coverage, but he looks to be a good hitter and have good instincts. Not sure on the competition he played against. I have to trust Aranda and the coaches. No lose situation for the program. He’s a walk-on so he has to prove himself. If he impresses maybe he gets a scholarship for the next semester or the year after. If not, he continues to be a walk-on.

But, the Warriors have given him a chance and that’s all he wanted so that’s great.

P.S. Good size for a LB.

  35. King Katonk June 30, 2011 7:26 am

All the best to Dylan McCagg.

I can’t wait until he becomes captain of the UH Lacrosse team.

    #16 – sff

Thanks for the article on Owens.

    CO2 is the man!

  36. Roy Ueoka June 30, 2011 7:47 am

    Good morning,

Tate Forcier has signed with the University of Miami as of today. He will be eligible to play in 2012 after sitting out this year.

  37. al June 30, 2011 8:05 am

ahouse…perhaps i should enlighten you about those orange omens?

    surely, you jest?

those oranges well…..tell you later. do i still have your email?

  38. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 30, 2011 8:06 am

    #36,

Could you link a site to verify that?

  39. kawika49 June 30, 2011 8:06 am

maybe our Lacrosse team could give McCagg a scholarship.

  40. warriorsun June 30, 2011 8:06 am

McCagg has a nose for the ball, stalks and moves well in traffic and has size. he is a hitter and mature. heplays smart! positive upsides to contribute.

i can see good reason for aranda inviting him to walkon at this late date. as i mentioned previousily, our LBs are the best unit on eitherside of ball for warrior team 2011. McCagg makes us stronger. warrior 2011 are deeper than i can remember any other team in the past at this position…. dick tomey will have a great reservoir of talent to draw from for his STs.

aloha and welcome to our ohana, dylan, best wishes as a warrior.

  41. A-House June 30, 2011 8:07 am

    al:

I would not “jest” with you. I’am serious about the Orange Bowl. They passed on UH in the 2008 Sugar Bowl and regretted it to New Orleans great financial gain!!!

  42. Slugger June 30, 2011 8:08 am

    Good morning, gang!

Welcome, Dylan! You’re going to have a good time hiking Koko Head with your teammates.

    orange?

  43. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 30, 2011 8:09 am

    #36,

I find it hard to believe that Miami is THAT desperate for a QB that they would allow him to resign when he decided against it all of 3-4 months ago.

  44. al June 30, 2011 8:10 am

    ahouse…no, no, no.

i was referring to the orange omen.

nothing to do with the orange bowl…seriously. where do you get these notions from?

    okay…i’ll email you.

  45. warriorsun June 30, 2011 8:15 am

didnt tate originally nix on miami saying it was too far from his home?

he should interview forcier, he gives new meaning to the word.

okay, gonna look for the little birdie.

  47. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 30, 2011 8:17 am

  52. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 8:39 am

    Liz:

See, you watched the Godfather movies.

The orange was on the practice field.

  53. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 8:58 am

McCagg will be helpful. Plus, he’s a freebie.

He’s another hybrid type for a defense that relishes hybrids.

  55. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 9:06 am

The only orange I recollect from the GF movies is the one Marlon Brndo stuffs into his face to scare his grandkids.

You scarin’ grandkids, Tsai? Doesn’t Brando’s charachter die not long after the orange thing?

  56. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 9:06 am

ST, I remember the Godfather movies.

That was when Al Pacino was young and handsome.

But, I don’t remember seeing any oranges.

  57. SteveM June 30, 2011 9:09 am

    RE: #54

Kid — I think kal bi is more alluring for Al’s type of birdie. 😀

  58. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:09 am

Looks like an NBA lockout is going to be imposed.

    Talks broke down.

  59. jm2375 June 30, 2011 9:11 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Welcome to the Warrior Ohana Dylan McCagg!

    Go Mana! Go Mighty Mouse!

ST, take your meds! How’s your car?

  60. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:14 am

    From usefultrivial.com:

In The Godfather, when Don Corleone dies of a heart attack in the tomato garden, he has an orange in his mouth. The scene was actually improvised because the child actor playing Corleone’s grandson was having difficulty performing — he only reacted once Brando starting playing with the orange. However, the presence of the orange was no accident — oranges in all three Godfather movies suggest that a death may soon occur. For instance, Vito is shopping for oranges just prior to the assassination attempt on his life, Sonny drives past a billboard promoting Florida Oranges just before he is gunned down at the turnpike tollbooth, and Michael dies with an orange in his hand.

  61. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:16 am

    Jm:

Car is still nice and toasty.

I put in a bid for my son’s car while he’s away, but, alas, the wife scooped it up.

  62. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:17 am

And don’t forget: If anyone is in Waikiki tomorrow morning at, say, 6:30, can you take some pictures of Warriors working out on the beach?

I’ll be deep in REM at that time.

  63. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 9:20 am

Okay, the orange/ Godfather mystery is solved:

“The presence of oranges in all three “Godfather” movies indicates that a death or an assassination attempt will soon happen: Don Altobello tosses a kid an orange just before ordering Michael’s assassination. An orange rolls over the table just before the helicopter attack. Michael and Altobello are both seen drinking orange juice. Michael Corleone dies with an orange in his hand.”

We still dont know precisely what our enigmatic blog host is thinking…

  64. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 9:20 am

ST, geez. I drink an orange juice smoothie every morning.

So far, I am still alive.

  65. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:20 am

Next meeting between NBA owners and players union will be in two weeks.

  66. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:22 am

I was at Ching field yesterday, and I saw an orange on the ground.

I thought of the Godfather movies.

  67. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:23 am

Isn’t an orange juice smoothie redundant?

  68. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 9:23 am

ST, I think you have to be Italian for an orange on the ground to mean anything sinister.

  69. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 9:24 am

ST, here’s the recipe for my smoothie:

    OJ

    banana

    frozen blueberries.

    BLEND!

    DRINK!

  70. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:25 am

By the way, Im disappointed in the lack of Godfather fans on this blog.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know younger people think Scarface is a gangster classic, but Godfather had more memorable lines.

  71. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 9:27 am

“I’m making you an offer you can’t refuse…”

  72. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:28 am

    Let’s see …

    Blueberry dump cake with pineapples?

Orange smoothie with bananas and blueberries?

  73. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 9:29 am

    Yeah, I am creative.

  74. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:30 am

“Leave the gun. Take the cannaoli.”

  75. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:31 am

“Fredo, you’re my older brother and I love you. But never take sides against the family. Ever.”

  76. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:33 am

“It’s not personal, Sonny, it’s strictly business.”

  77. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:36 am

Then again, Godfather III was terrible.

That’s the problem with a trilogy.

As they say on Sesame Street, one of these things just doesn’t belong.

  78. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:37 am

OK, it seems like everyone froze while waiting for me to stop rambling.

    I’m done now.

    You may resume.

  79. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 9:37 am

    Maybe TMI, but —

I was in love with a guy whose father had friends in the Mob in New York.

Thank goodness I didn’t marry the guy.

    Hubby is squeaky clean.

  80. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 9:40 am

Youz shoulda tried to get a statement from da orange, Mr. Tsai. Maybe its just there as a snack for one of da players.

Maybe the orange follows the rule of “omerta” and dint even want its picture taken. Youz better watch out for yaself Mr. Tsai.

  81. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 9:43 am

Gonna leave for a bit, but for those who will come after me, the road to 100 is wide open and easy… 😉

  82. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:43 am

    DPK:

Not sure if oranges are violent by nature.

Now watch out for apples. They’re known for robberies. Just read the other day about an apple jack …

  83. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 9:45 am

Hmmm. I suppose I could offer a UH T-shirt (XL) to the 200th post of the day (after I delete spam).

  84. mctruck June 30, 2011 9:49 am

After absorbing the film on McCagg…….since he has the speed to get to the ball, and since you develope very strong hands, mountain climbing, etc., is there also a possibility that he might be able to contribute as a rb/fb in short situations???…hmmmmmm? lots off possibilities!?

  85. mctruck June 30, 2011 9:51 am

Stephen- when I was in labor with ukuleleboi, I was pacing the halls and watching a movie… that’s right. The Godfather. Perhaps the best film of all time… so far.

    😆

What color is the tee shirt???

  88. Couch potato June 30, 2011 10:02 am

another great Warrior interest story. and thanks for the Owens link sff.

  89. tommui June 30, 2011 10:02 am

I’m very concerned as Lois bought a whole bunch of oranges from Times and I just ate one now!

I forgot the kid’s name that we were so high on – he signed with Miami after a visit here and then transferred after a year there to, I think, Purdue, and of course no one has heard about him since.

Hope Forcier doesn’t repeat that sort of history (“the story is true, only the names have been changed to protect the innocent”)

  90. al June 30, 2011 10:03 am

i am glad you all finally got the 411 on the oranges.

    here’s what i sent ahouse this morning…

  94. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 10:07 am

OK, guys, hurt gigi’s (aka gracie) feelings…

  95. warriorsun June 30, 2011 10:07 am

im still trying to piece out a tragic climax which the orange suggests that begins with a mountain climb in the chilly colorado sierra and ends on a warm day in hawaii at ching field.

    no-lucky we live hawaii?

  96. al June 30, 2011 10:07 am

tommui…careful about what you say, you did have those oranges from the lovely lois.

  97. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 10:08 am

I’m gonna have to rethink the way I behave around oranges. Maybe I shouldn’t allow myself to be near them.

So al, I set out seed and water for your little birdie. He will he she be comin’ round anytime soon?

  98. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 10:08 am

Liz, if you were in labor, how in the world did you manage to pace the halls?!

  99. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 10:09 am

  100. Couch potato June 30, 2011 10:10 am

  101. tommui June 30, 2011 10:10 am

    Well – where’s Al?

  102. Kevin June 30, 2011 10:10 am

Supposedly you can take an orange and stuff it into a sock, you can use it as a weapon and it won’t leave a bruise…. SUPPOSEDLY.

NOT true though for a sock filled with quarters.

  103. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 10:10 am

As for Godfather being the “best movie of all time,” I don’t think so.

Sound of Music — that is the greatest!

  104. Couch potato June 30, 2011 10:13 am

no can beat the Shawshank Redemption.

so, i guess she would know.

  109. papajoe2 June 30, 2011 10:19 am

Yyiikkess, I was eating an orange while reading the WB. Aloha everyone! Its been a great ride.

  110. LizKauai June 30, 2011 10:22 am

  111. al June 30, 2011 10:22 am

now i am thinking of the scallops and that lobster dish at fook yuen.

  113. LizKauai June 30, 2011 10:25 am

al- think about salad please… I am getting hungry now…

  114. Couch potato June 30, 2011 10:26 am

orange you glad there’s google! time for Couch potato to feed Couch potato’s hunger pains. say goodbye Couch potato.

    wow, that just empowered me!

  115. Couch potato June 30, 2011 10:31 am

    you don’t say headline…

    “Waiawa prisoners charged with escape”

    DUH!

  116. papajoe2 June 30, 2011 10:35 am

#115, maybe they found out that they escaped for real and was not only practicing thats why.

  117. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 10:42 am

#117 Not bad. I’ll wait to see what they look like on the field before deciding.

  118. al June 30, 2011 10:43 am

yah, if those are the new uniforms…i like it.

i think the linemen will especially like the slimming effects of those white pants and “skid marks’.

  119. LizKauai June 30, 2011 10:44 am

    I like the unis too…

  120. sports for fun June 30, 2011 10:52 am

I gotta get use to those tire marks on the back of the pant legs. I like last years unis…

  121. al June 30, 2011 10:54 am

  124. LizKauai June 30, 2011 10:56 am

Oh- and ADAM LEONARD is there too!

  125. LizKauai June 30, 2011 10:57 am

al- I think that dark green with look black on the field…

  126. Kevin June 30, 2011 10:57 am

Is it just my PC or are they hard to see.

Is that “mesh” or the tapa print on the lower gut and the sides of the tops?

  127. d1shima (Aria'd) June 30, 2011 11:03 am

d1shima cannot recall a player named, “ABCDEFGH”

  128. hakaboy June 30, 2011 11:05 am

#127- I think it’s just mesh because Maryland has the same thing around the gut area

  129. Kevin June 30, 2011 11:06 am

    d1shima (Aria’d):

    June 30th, 2011 at 11:03 am

d1shima cannot recall a player named, “ABCDEFGH”

    He’s a walk-on from Deerborn, MI.

  130. d1shima (Aria'd) June 30, 2011 11:06 am

d1shima would like “slimming” effect to any of his clothes

  131. Kevin June 30, 2011 11:06 am

Wait, aren’t these designs from that EA Sports team builder function in the video game?

  132. d1shima (Aria'd) June 30, 2011 11:07 am

    d1shima avoids mesh

  133. LizKauai June 30, 2011 11:09 am

    LizKauai avoids mesh AND spandex…

  134. d1shima (Aria'd) June 30, 2011 11:10 am

    d1shima thinks d1shima would look awfully “mesh-y”

  135. Couch potato June 30, 2011 11:10 am

Couch potato looked at the Warrior roster to see what Couch potato could find and Couch potato concluded that the player might be the holy grail walk-on from Thailand.

man, this third person thing sucks when you have to type all the alphabets in your name.

  136. papajoe2 June 30, 2011 11:11 am

mom couldn’t spell his name so ABC………

  137. Couch potato June 30, 2011 11:13 am

    lol to mesh and spandex!

  138. d1shima (Aria'd) June 30, 2011 11:15 am

d1shima thanks Kevin for clearing up the question about the mystery player

  139. d1shima (Aria'd) June 30, 2011 11:18 am

d1shima is considering asking d1shima to rethink the 3rd person thing as d1shima becomes annoyed from the tedium of entering “d1shima”

  140. Couch potato June 30, 2011 11:18 am

Couch potato never knew there was an Asiana Airlines.

  141. sports for fun June 30, 2011 11:22 am

Thanks for that link Liz. I didn’t know Soloman Elimimian was the CFL Rookie of the Year last year.

Here’s a link for the top 30-11 players in the CFL. See who’s there!!

    http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/clip492425#clip492425

    Great comments after the list!

  142. Ralph June 30, 2011 11:25 am

d1shima can’t have the “slimming” look and wear mesh-y clothes while yelping out all of his dining experiences on a daily basis.

  143. LizKauai June 30, 2011 11:25 am

sff – I think the CFL and UFL will be great for our Warrior alumni this year!

  144. LizKauai June 30, 2011 11:26 am

  146. tommui June 30, 2011 11:33 am

    AL #108 – I like fook yuen – the name is a bit … well …

Lois’ cousin likes to take us there because of the pig’s feet and I think, chicken feet.

I like the chicken wings which is comparable to the ones at Yan King/Maple Garden and while eating them, I wonder where the rest of the chicken is, other than the feet.

  147. Da Punchbowl Kid June 30, 2011 11:35 am

DPK likes mesh and spandex, just as long as its not on DPK, Ralph, d1shima or al. Or bulla. Or pride.

Mesh and spandex look best on certain bodies of the fairer sex.

  148. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 11:36 am

    d1shima,

it helps to have a simple name like gigi to type. lol

  149. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 11:37 am

    Re: mesh.

ST mentioned that there would be “tribal designs” on the unis.

  150. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 11:37 am

I really liked last years uniforms.

    Why change them?

  151. sports for fun June 30, 2011 11:39 am

    @#144

I agree Liz. The CFL and UFL would be great stepping stones to the NFL. Players get real playing time, game time. In my mind, it’s better than being on a practice squad in the NFL.

  152. sports for fun June 30, 2011 11:41 am

    @#150

gigi, if you look closely, there seems to be some designs on the shoulder pad area, and in the tire track marks on the pant.

  153. Slugger June 30, 2011 11:44 am

It would be useful if the stripes on the unis were a support-type of material. Keeping the hammies warm? Don’t know about that as just a design. Gotta see it on the field.

    Whatchu having?

  156. mctruck June 30, 2011 12:23 pm

    Gigi,

try mixing oj with milk…very good, taste like orange-swirl ice cream or shake. I usually do 50/50, or depending on how my taste buds feel, 3/4 milk-1/4 OJ.

  158. RedZone June 30, 2011 12:39 pm

The mesh on the jersey looks like a belly bra. I would dump the skid marks. Opponents chasing ball carriers will end up falling down and rolling on the field laughing. Or maybe that is the intent????

Broadcast, television, radio, and internet rights

    $2,835,062.00

    7.82%

Program sales, concession, novelty sales, and parking

    $572,884.00

  167. Couch potato June 30, 2011 1:33 pm

    Good afternoon, everyone!

  169. HawaiiMongoose June 30, 2011 1:36 pm

The “skid marks” look awful. UH should make UA change the design to get rid of them, before some poor UH player is photographed wearing the uniform and the photos are circulated on the Internet and the player becomes a national laughingstock. The last thing we need is a repeat of what happened to Idaho a couple of years ago.

  170. wafan June 30, 2011 1:38 pm

Good thing the tire tracks on the back of the pants are not yellow, or brown.

Need to be careful how the tapa design on the tire tracks appear. Might really look like tire tracks.

  171. wafan June 30, 2011 1:39 pm

    7 players instead of 9.

4 outs per inning but 2 strikes and yer out.

hit 4 consecutive foul balls and you are awarded 1st base.

Dylan McCagg looks like a hitter with nice size as an outside linebacker. I love guys who can hit and unload on some candy pansy with the pigskin. I would welcome bruddah with open arms to the Warrior Ohana, we need to get back to unleashing vicious hits with great ferocity and bring back the title of the hardest hitting team period! Need some assasins on the field who just love knocking heads off and retiring people to the bench!

  215. Stephen Tsai June 30, 2011 3:46 pm

    Got the text, Liz. Thanks.

  216. Couch potato June 30, 2011 3:50 pm

    LOL, narcissistic personality disorder.

  217. iwonderwhytheyhateme June 30, 2011 4:27 pm

So BSU is out of the WAC (no representation already on WAC website)…A “new day” comes tomorrow.

    How exciting.

  218. LizKauai June 30, 2011 4:50 pm

Ah, Solly had a great game and the Lions almost came back but ended up with a FG and a loss by 4 points.

    gigi- I have lost count… hahaha…

Have a great evening and Aloha Friday!

  219. d1shima June 30, 2011 5:01 pm

    Congratulations LizK!

  220. warriorsun June 30, 2011 5:05 pm

former ny congressman (d), anthony weiner, aka the “beltway sex-texter”, has a narcissistic personality disorder according to dr charles krauthammer.

he should know, he’s a psychiatrist, an American Pulitzer Prize–winning syndicated columnist and political commentator.

  221. warriorsun June 30, 2011 5:15 pm

    #185.

    rule of thumb.

never buy preseason mags that use kinderkarten sized fonts.

they have little to say and are less accurate.

compare to phil steele, you need a magnifying glass. provides more info, details, team v team history and comprehensive roster coverage.

  222. papajoe2 June 30, 2011 5:22 pm

#215 gigi, neighbor’s 1st bill was $22. Last bill $120. Last month, not much sun. And they do have central air.

  223. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 5:30 pm

    papajoe,

interesting. how long have they had the system?

doesn’t it deteriorate over time and become less efficient?

  224. warriorsun June 30, 2011 5:42 pm

heco gets u either way. if u use their power they charge u for green energy rebates, not to mention rising energy surcharges. if you use green, u must use their grid and they regulate u.

there is a way to beat them–but it will cost u. so, it depends on your temperament, intelligence, deep-pockets and will to say, “shove-it” to the blood-sucking energy-greedy-mongols.

  225. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 5:48 pm

the cost of installation is prohibitive.

  226. warriorsun June 30, 2011 5:53 pm

    bingo! keep digging.

  227. papajoe2 June 30, 2011 6:09 pm

Gigi, neighbors just installed it. Only 2 bills so far. I had solar water for 2 1/2 years.

  228. d1shima June 30, 2011 6:18 pm

    30% Federal tax credit

    35% State tax credit

  229. warriorsun June 30, 2011 6:56 pm

so, who do think ultimately subsidizes those tax credits?

c’mon the public makes up the govts revenue chain. unless, they print obama money. then you pay through inflation. folks, it’s all smoke n mirrors. either way, matson, heco and the unions (govt) have got us all by the proverbial balls. unless you can produce ur own energy, grow your own food and do ur own labor. how many of us can do all three?

  230. Lava June 30, 2011 6:59 pm

    Good stuff today.

New player — nice to see if can go low and ankle tackle when needed.

Solly — 7 tackles in a losing effort, and LizKauiai is all over the CFL opener. Surprisingly the game was not sold out.

    Kolten hitting well.

Dean Wilson on the leaderboard, but always fades on under pressure, I hate to say.

And some things never change, as our someone with a ridiculous electric bill remains off topic, as hubby wonders what the heck is wrong with in their world.

  231. Slugger June 30, 2011 7:04 pm

Was that orange really an omen?

Russian in the garden tonight and he hit a 70+ y.o. woman who was visiting one of our gardeners. Hope the cops find him. Never a dull moment with those “slugs”.

the cost of installation is prohibitive.

Less than the electric car you want to buy, and at least you’ll recoup your investment, unlike with the electric car. The system becomes less efficient if you don’t clean the panels.

  233. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 7:58 pm

    Slugger,

ST mentioned yesterday that he probably will die in 10 years (especially if he forgets to take his meds).

Today, he saw the orange (omen of death in the Godfather movies).

I told him that applies only to Italians.

  234. gigi-hawaii June 30, 2011 8:01 pm

    Guys,

thanks for your input regarding photovoltaic system.

Seems that in addition to the cost of installing the system, you need to install a new roof (no sense putting the system on an old roof) as well as new windows (with a tighter seal for a/c).

    One thing leads to another.

    Lots to consider.

  235. uh1966 June 30, 2011 8:14 pm

  239. Curt June 30, 2011 11:31 pm

Good try al. U 2 late. The princess from Kauai garnered da prize.

  240. Curt June 30, 2011 11:35 pm

    Hey al,

What’s up with Forcier? At one pt, he supposedly going to San Jose St. Next, I hear he’s going to Miami again. Then today, ST says he’s still interested in UH. I’m so confused I decided to eat some popcorn.

  241. Slugger June 30, 2011 11:35 pm

    DPK,

Yup. I’ll send you an email.

  242. al June 30, 2011 11:40 pm

    well…i counted 39 spams today.

  243. al June 30, 2011 11:49 pm

    rumors abound you see.

tate forcier visits miami gives acurt…follow the music. verbal commit.

on the way home tate says wow coast to coast dats too far(too many pit stops)

    cancel miami already.

tate trips san jose state thats only 8 hours by 101 coastal highway.

san jose state media “leaks” a rumor.

but, seriously why would tate want to play in front of 8k fans every weekend?

time passes, tate says, “i am very interested in university of pass”

nobody believes him even tho’ he has spoken to the “truth” (aka st).

some miami local blogs that tate is back to miami.

the truth finds out that it is not so.

moral of the story don’t believe everything you read.

and does all this mean that perhaps a trip is being considered?

    subliminal messages or more rumor?

    …nuff said

  244. al June 30, 2011 11:52 pm

wow, how did this get all jumbled up?

    rumors abound you see.

tate forcier visits miami gives acurt…follow the music. verbal commit.

    = curt…follow the music.

    rumors abound you see.

tate forcier visits miami gives a verbal commit.

  245. al June 30, 2011 11:53 pm

do i get an email too?

  246. Curt July 1, 2011 12:02 am

    al,

U r confusing me so much. I have no clue what u r saying. A-House, pls tell me what al is talking about. I think it’s time for mo popcorn.

  247. Curt July 1, 2011 12:09 am

Forcier might be very talented. But, some of the stuff I’ve read about him scares me. So, I’ve got to trust in Coach Mack’s due diligence. But then again, I did warn Gib about that pt guard that couldn’t hack it and left the team last fall.

  248. Curt July 1, 2011 12:12 am

All right. Time to go nitey nite. Al confused me enough to make my head spin and get tired. Sweet Warrior dreams.

  249. Slugger July 1, 2011 12:13 am

    al,

It’s your and tommui’s fault! I went to Fook Yuen today for lunch and … Maple Garden’s buffet is better. I like to have bitter melon, choy sum, and the honey spareribs at Yen King.

Roasted a chicken tonight. Pretty good. Less salty than the rotisserie chickens at Sam’s.

    You really want to know?

#234 ~ Ha! I was married to an Italian-American and lived with another in my younger days. So it sorta applies to what happened to me today.

  250. al July 1, 2011 12:20 am

fook yuen…need to order off the menu. that is where their exquisite cuisine can be had.

in fact, yen king/maple gdn also has excellent menu items. next time if you are hankering for some hot noodles try their ‘yen king soup noodle’ a carry over from the old store. and then there’s this braised pork leg that is to die for, but, it is pricey.

fook yuen does wonders with the seafoods.

but, my current front runner is moon garden.

  251. al July 1, 2011 12:22 am

curt…we will discuss this again tomw.

  252. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 1, 2011 12:25 am

tate is entering the supplemental draft.

wait…don’t tell me you guys didn’t know.

  253. Slugger July 1, 2011 12:27 am

Fook Yuen’s Pipa Tofu is REALLY good. And I really like their thin chow mein noodles, almost like Shanghai noodles. When I go there with my Mom, we always get a lobster in black bean sauce. I don’t think their walnut shrimp is as good as what I’ve gotten on the mainland, though.

Had a great steamed fish dish from Maple Garden. In fact, that meal we ordered when my friends were here was outstanding.

I’ll have to try more dishes from Moon Garden.

K, I need to go to bed. If you want to know the story, you can ask DPK. Night!

  254. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 1, 2011 12:29 am

Be on the loolout for new news about a future UH football venue.

  255. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 1, 2011 12:34 am

lobster king and canton seafood are good.

then again, im a panda cuisine fan.

  256. SteveM July 1, 2011 12:39 am

Al — how about a cattle call at Moon Garden? I never had the BBQ fuud you said to order a day in advance. Could get a head count for the advance order here… 😕
