UH opener on ESPN2

ESPN2 will televise the Sept. 3 season-opening football game between UH and Colorado at Aloha Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

See? UH doesn’t mind starting games in the afternoon. Just make ESPN ask.

* * * * *

During defensive meetings this coming year, Darryl McBride will not be the elephant in the room.

McBride, who made several big plays during spring scrimmages, is moving from the elephant — the hybrid rush end/outside linebacker position — to weakside linebacker. Aaron Brown and Aulola Tonga also play on the weak side.

Art Laurel, who had a terrific spring, and T.J. Taimatuia will play the elephant position.

The move makes sense. McBride had brought quickness to the edge, but at 206 pounds and with a background as a cornerback and safety, he probably is best suited as a full-time linebacker. In UH schemes, the linebackers get equal opportunities to blitz. McBride said he is working out twice a day to better prepare for the change.

Laurel and Taimatuia bring enough heft to the elephant position that they can be used as run defenders in the four-man front.

    Aloha kakahiaka!

    Go Warriors!

    Go Wahine!

If our coaches fail to contact the cream of the crop every year then shame on them, but to be fair, most of the top football recruits in the state make it clear very early that they want to go away to play. They make no effort themselves to contact the coaches and express their desire to play for UH. No doubt we should be extending our hands to all our top young athletes, but by the same token, Hawii’s youth need to see that UH is a very viable option and that there is NOTHING that compares to representing the 808 by playing for the home team. The number of UH players drafted by the NFL is evidence enough that UH is now held in high regard in producing quality athletes. Hawaii’s “blue chippers” need to go “all in” with Hawaii!

Well, from the photo, thought we was almost in Kansas.

The Warriors had an open Junior Day last month.

They are considering having an invitation-only Junior Day this summer.

I know they spent the past couple of weeks rating the state’s top 2012 prospects.

Some options for Mana Silva and LaCount.

#34 OVERALL – OT KAINOA LaCOUNT, HAWAII

A rookie, LaCount goes from the islands to the West Coast of the mainland to begin his professional football career. He played in all 14 games in 2010, starting four, and played as a backup in two games in 2009 as a junior. LaCount played two seasons at College of the Canyons.

    #49 OVERALL – S KEANEMANA SILVA, HAWAII

Silva, a rookie, takes 38 collegiate games at Hawaii with him into professional football. In 2010, he had eight interceptions, 85 total tackles, a sack and three tackles for loss, and in 2009, Silva recorded six interceptions, 74 total tackles and two tackles for loss.

    Good morning, again!

  8. Stephen Tsai May 3, 2011 8:09 am

    NYUH

They have until July to make a decision.

It probably would be best for LaCount to go to the UFL because he didn’t play a lot of games during his UH career. This will give him the experience to increase his value.

Silva probably should give it a shot in the NFL, if the lockout ends soon.

“The Pac-10 agreed to a 12-year television contract with Fox and ESPN on Tuesday worth about $3 billion, allowing the conference to quadruple its media rights fees and start its own network.”

    http://www.azcentral.com/sports/colleges/articles/2011/05/03/20110503pac-10-new-tv-deal-fox-espn.html

    Uh, WOW!

  16. HawaiiMongoose May 3, 2011 8:51 am

The new Pac-12 deal won’t be good for the WAC or the MWC.

On the WAC side, it means ESPN will have few if any openings for WAC games and little motivation to pay for them. The WAC TV contract will end up like the Sun Belt’s, basically paying nothing.

On the MWC side, it means neither CBS College Sports nor Comcast will have access to Pac-12 games, which will motivate them to leave the current MWC contract in place. And that deal only obligates them to pay a measly $12 million per year for exclusive rights to all MWC games through 2016, and possibly longer.

The rich will get (much) richer, and the poor will stay poor.

Point being… just because they are a mainland or BCS school doesn’t mean you’ll automatically get drafted. We’ve got a great staff of coaches that are doing a better job than nearly half of the BCS schools… when it comes to teaching and training guys to prep them for the next level. And all this without those 5-star recruits!

  22. albinohawaiian808 May 3, 2011 9:17 am

Whoaa why will they do that when Darryl’s our best edge rusher

What’s more impressive is the total amount drafted from the WAC, (The WAC home site, lists *16* draftees), which is more than most major confrences.

    MW: Awesome stats.

  27. RedZone May 3, 2011 9:46 am

You think moving McBride may be because the coaches think there are some elephants coming in the fall???

  28. Michigan Warrior May 3, 2011 9:58 am

I posted the totals for the BCS conferences right after the draft. Here’s the conference breakdown again:

    ACC = 35

    Big12 = 30

    Big East = 22

    Big Ten = 29

    PAC12 = 31

    SEC = 38

    INDY = 1

    C-USA = 6

    MAC = 3

    MWC = 10

    Sun Belt = 6

    WAC = 16

    DI-AA = 21

    DII = 4

    DIII = 1

    NAIA = 1

  29. Kekoa May 3, 2011 10:00 am

MW ~ Thanks for the interesting stats. Makes our program look like a million dollars!

  30. Stephen Tsai May 3, 2011 10:05 am

There will be d-ends coming in the fall — Cofer, Daley — but I’m not sure they would be considered elephants.

At last count, there will be 11 d-ends in camp.

  31. Buffoman May 3, 2011 10:06 am

I guess we’ll get there at some point. If you look at places like Florida or Texas where the blue chippers stay in state, that’s because they find value in remaining in their state to play for their school(s) of choice.

The blue chip player from Hawaii would need to see the value of remaining in State to play. I agree with a comment made earlier where many still believe that going to a Pac 10 school means an automatic invite to the NFL. The success the UH program is receiving by having our kids drafted and now drafted in the 3rd, 4th, 5th rounds and spoken highly of by the McShay’s of the ESPN world may start a turn around in thinking. If not, that’s okay, their loss as we’ll continue to have those who want to represent the 808 remain and become a part of the State’s source of pride.

  32. BG May 3, 2011 10:06 am

Dragged this over…I pray the Tsaikos are vigilant

    BG:

    May 3rd, 2011 at 7:52 am

Good morning folks! Might want to be a bit careful about being around widely publicized events with big crowds…at least for the next 3-4 months. I do admit to a little paranoia [looking around wide-eyed], but as sure as the sun rises in the east, there will be retaliation from Osama’s organization. Perhaps uncoordinated at first, but moreso when the replacement is in place…hopefully that will take a long, long time if the organization fractures. A little paranoia could go a long way. When traveling outside the US, its worthwhile to read the anti-terrorist literature to reduce your profile as an American. Don’t stress but be smart.

    BG:

    May 3rd, 2011 at 7:59 am

There are Tsaikos (who I won’t name) who can corroborate that the number of terrorist groups in the world are incredible. There are many within the borders of the US who are sleepers waiting to be activated. This is not a video game. Living in fear is not living. But being aware and taking what steps you can is a good thing.

  33. Stephen Tsai May 3, 2011 10:07 am

Where is Siaki Cravens in all this “elephant” or outside backer position? No word on him when discussing the ‘backers or d-ends?

  35. Stephen Tsai May 3, 2011 10:14 am

Cravens has been recovering from his leg injury. He said he will be good to go come training camp. He’s regarded as a defensive end.

Anyone have a list or know of some top players. The outer islands have unknown players like Pasoni Tasini. Brostek from Big Island. Anymore?

  43. Stephen Tsai May 3, 2011 10:55 am

  56. iwonderwhytheyhateme May 3, 2011 12:47 pm

Personally I think this deal with the PAC is going to be better for the MWC in the long run. I mean NBC/Comcast can’t just show Notre Dame programming and will want some western programming. Big East contract is also up for renegotiation in a year or so I think.

    Wishful thinking? I hope not.

    NCAA,

I can’t believe some of those infractions are actually infractions. I can’t see sleeping on someones dorm floor or couch as being a benefit. I mean maybe in some 3rd world country sleeping on the floor is considered 5 star accommodations but wth.

  62. NCAA May 3, 2011 1:10 pm

I rather watch softball. The State HSVB tournament will probably be telecast on OC16.

Yea the next infraction is going to be some kid who ate a Hershey kiss that some coach left on the field.

  76. Hilo Moon May 3, 2011 2:16 pm

    Two ono sandwiches–

    1. Tuna and Kim Chee ( I’m part Korean, so I capatilize Seoul Food. )

Make the usual tuna and mayo mixture and use Kim Chee instead of lettuce. Guarantee,

    ONO!

    2. Fishcake and Kim Chee

Slice some tempura fishcake ( the brown kind fishcake, not the half moon red kind ),

spread mayo on bread and slap’em together and use the Kim Chee instead of lettuce.

    ONOLICIOUS!

  80. HawaiiMongoose May 3, 2011 2:49 pm

To clarify, I don’t think the new Pac-12 deal helps the MWC financially; CBSCS will just keep paying the MWC $12 million every year until the deal runs out. However it may benefit the MWC in terms of exposure. Since neither CBSCS nor Comcast/NBC will have rights to Pac-12 or WAC games, their only option if they want more western college football programming than in the past will be to show more MWC games.

  81. losthawaiian May 3, 2011 2:50 pm

If you haven’t bought your airline tickets for the UH-UNLV game yet, Hawaiian has a three day sale going on right now. I just bought my ticket from Los angeles to Honolulu R/T for $355 . I’m not sure what the price is for HNL to Las Vegas is. The flights can be booked out as far as the middle of Nov. Pretty good price!

Ingredients: Pork, Water, Salt, Vinegar, Flavorings, Paprika, Sodium Nitrite, Chili Powder, Cabbage, Garlic, Scallion, Sugar, Fish Sauce, MSG

  84. Garret May 3, 2011 3:11 pm

What’s your take on the new MWC contract once it is “fully” formed in 2012…Do you think they get more leverage seeing they don’t have any west coast programming?

    iwonderwhytheyhateme,

I’m not ST but I have a couple of points here.

    1. Leverage doesn’t exist when the MWC is tied to a one-sided contract where CBS CS doesn’t have to pay any more than $12 mil/year until 2016 or 2020. HawaiiMongoose is correct, CBS CS will just leave the contract in place.

    2. The MWC was *already* the only West Coast programming that CBS CS had from the time they signed the first version of this contract. That “leverage” led to the one-way contract that gives CBS CS the right to pay the MWC below-market rates for 5-10 years more!

    3. CBS CS was *not* a bidder for the Pac-12 rights. So, they are not affected by this deal at all.

    4. Removing ESPN and Fox from potential bids for the MWC TV rights means that all leverage has been lost to get CBS CS to renegotiate the contract early with the MWC.

  85. Garret May 3, 2011 3:14 pm

I don’t think that it has been pointed out that the Pac-12 isn’t even selling all of their TV rights to get the $3 bil…they are also going to start their version of the Big 10 network and get even MORE money.

Note that the article says that Comcast might get the Pac-12 TV channel…so, the Pac-12 could have ESPN, Fox, and Comcast all to themselves, with each channel getting some of the Pac-12 football and basketball games.

The Pac-10 Conference has agreed to a media rights deal with ESPN and Fox that is worth $3B over 12 years, according to multiple sources. A formal announcement will come tomorrow. The deal, which averages out to $250M per year, includes football, basketball and Olympic sports rights. It is more than quadruple the conference’s current deals with ESPN and Fox. The conference is holding some rights back that it still hopes to use for a dedicated channel.

  86. Garret May 3, 2011 3:15 pm

Note that the Pac-12 has agreed to play some conference games on Friday night. That means that the WAC won’t have the Friday night time slot anymore! ESPN gets the Pac-12 to replace the WAC on Friday nights…wow, the WAC has zero leverage with ESPN.

Larry Scott‘s efforts to get his conference more national exposure continue.

USC’s game at Colorado is being moved from Saturday, Nov. 5, to Friday, Nov. 4.

The game in Boulder, Colo., will kick off at 7 p.m. Mountain Time (6 p.m. Pacific) and will be televised on ESPN2.

  87. Garret May 3, 2011 3:18 pm

I think that it is too bad that the women’s tennis program could bring the hammer down on BSU athletics. UH players should be notified that letting an incoming student sleep on their coach would bring the hammer by the NCAA. Having a current UH athlete giving food to an incoming freshman is an NCAA violation…the NCAA will want to make examples of schools like BSU and UH instead of schools like Florida and Michigan.

After being notified by the NCAA of the potential violations, Boise State officials launched their own inquiry in 2009 and ultimately self-reported some previously unknown infractions. But before a resolution could be reached with the NCAA, Boise State officials discovered more serious problems in the women’s tennis program last fall.

With the exception of the problems identified in the women’s tennis program, the university characterized the majority of the violations as minor, cases when incoming student athletes were given a couch to sleep on or a free ride or food from an existing athlete.

    http://www.kspr.com/sports/sns-ap-boise-st-ncaa-violations,0,5845715.story

  88. Stephen Tsai May 3, 2011 3:20 pm

Think it must be hard for UH officials to support Utah’s cause.

On the one hand, it is a fight for the underdog.

On the other hand, the Utah AD once referred to the UH football team as chihuahuas.

  89. Garret May 3, 2011 3:20 pm

I’m not going to celebrate BSU’s problems because:

    1. If the BSU football program goes downhill, so does any chance of the MWC becoming an AQ conference.

    2. If the BSU football program doesn’t stay at the top, the future MWC TV contract will get WAC-level numbers.

    3. If the BSU football program declines, UH won’t get any credit when the Warriors beat them in 2012 and beyond.

  90. Garret May 3, 2011 3:21 pm

    TV money comparison:

Every Pac-12 school will get $20.8 million from their conference TV deal, plus whatever the Pac-12 TV network brings in.

UH will get *$0* from the MWC’s TV deal.

  91. NCAA May 3, 2011 3:25 pm

Garret – I know it was a typo but i had to laugh when you typed “UH players should be notified that letting an incoming student sleep on their coach would bring the hammer by the NCAA”

  92. koakane May 3, 2011 3:35 pm

    repeating from earlier

Need some sports adrenaline rush? State girls softball starts today @ 1pm and boys baseball is Wednesday @ 9am. d2 is at CORP and d1 at UH for both divisions. Come out and check out hawaii’s finest youth play ball.

  93. NCAA May 3, 2011 3:38 pm

If BSU falters due to NCAA sanctions then other teams need to step up. I see kn reason why UH cannot be this team.

A win over BSU whether their football program declines or not will still give me satisfaction. No ways you can discredit a win over BSU.

  94. NCAA May 3, 2011 3:39 pm

Where did the “kn” come from? Should have been “no”. Major brain fut.

the NCAA will want to make examples of schools like BSU and UH instead of schools like Florida and Michigan.

In addition to being cowards, the NCAA is also foolish.

To penalize a “mid major” like Boise State or UH is not making an example on the scale doing so to a BIG program with national attention like OSU or Michigan would.

It would be EASIER to bring the hammer down on UH or BSU. It is what it is.

If a middle class citizen is on trial for rape, no one pays too much attention. If a city official is on trial for the same offense, people pay attention.

Yes, the NCAA would RATHER make examples out of UH and BSU for manini stuff as opposed to hammering down on BCS Bowl bound programs because they are simply intimidated.

  105. Garret May 3, 2011 4:02 pm

Here is one of the articles that seems to indicate that the MWC TV deal can be extended until 2020. I’ve read that another article said that CBS CS has the option to choose the extend at the same $12 mil/year deal.

The contract is worth $12 million per year through 2015-16 with an additional four-year option – $8 million per year more than the WAC.

    http://www.idahostatesman.com/2010/06/12/1227968/bsu-could-prompt-more-tv-money.html#ixzz1LJbc49gj

  106. Garret May 3, 2011 4:03 pm

    NCAA,

*That* is a pretty funny typo! My mistake…sleeping with a coach is actually not an NCAA violation, but letting a recruit sleep on a player’s sofa is.

  107. Kazz May 3, 2011 4:06 pm

Besides if the NCAA wants to make an example out of a WAC school, they should look further southeast from Boise, Idaho.

There is an athletic director there who’s balls are smaller than his school’s football team win column.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we float at 68. NMSU was only 60. Even with a sweep, I’d be surprised if there was a significant increase on our end.

SJSU at 185 is almost a death sentence. Who the hell did they play? I didn’t know Chico State and the University of Alaska South had women’s fastpitch softball programs!

  118. Stephen Tsai May 3, 2011 5:38 pm

The Boise accusations are pretty serious.

UH, for instance, doesn’t have the money to put up student-athletes for an entire summer. So players attend only one of the two summer sessions.

Having players attend the entire summer, basically, extends the offseason training program.

If BSU wants to pay full price, that’s fine. But can’t get discounts. That’s OSU territory.

  119. Michigan Warrior May 3, 2011 5:53 pm

ESPN2 will air UH v. Colorado at Aloha Stadium?

  127. Shoko May 3, 2011 6:47 pm

Isn’t the existing MWC TV contract going through negotiations as a result of Utah, BYU and TCU leaving? That 12 million the MWC presently gets could be substantially less, especially when you consider, with ESPN and FOX are out of the equation, MWC would then lose its leverage to bargain.

Anyway, how everybody. Good? Glad to hear it… 😉

  128. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 6:48 pm

A few years ago, I asked Dayton Morinaga why any newly rich athlete would drop so much money on an expensive car. I said all I need is a/c and a good sound system.

To which, Dayton said: If you were rich, you’d buy an expensive car, too.

For two years, I suffered as the Knicks dropped payroll and lost games to clear cap room to go after LeBron James. And when they didn’t get him, I jumped on the I-hate-Miami bandwagon. Thought the Cleveland owner had it right.

And then the Knicks force a trade to get Carmelo Anthony.

It was the same deal with the expensive car. I wouldn’t be against LeBron if he went to the Knicks.

Long, long story short: I’m rooting for the Heat.

    Or the Grizzlies.

  140. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 7:56 pm

ever since we got our reverse mortgage, I have been feeling rich. But, if we go on a spending spree, we will run out of capital, and then…. we won’t be rich anymore.

I believe Bill Gates is rich. He can spend to his heart’s content, and never run out of money.

Many rich people are not very happy. They use material things to fill the holes in their hearts.

  144. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 8:11 pm

Many poor people are not very happy, either.

my Hyundai has been in and out of the repair shop for the past month. tomorrow, hubby will take it in to have the gas cylinder replaced. Cost? $441 for the parts and $160 for labor.

An electric car will cost $21,000 with tax credits. — the Leaf, that is.

    There’s a possibility we’re going to have a Hawai‘i Bowl/blog party in early July.

We’re sort of close to a deal with Budweiser, actually.

Think there’s anybody who enjoys both football and free beer?

    Details to come.

    RE: Tsaiko’s team…

I have no idea how to be a good center. Maybe with some help from Pride, I could try. But I really want to play DE, same postition I had played before… Maybe a switch???

I think ST should also take some reps at QB. Maybe even Cat should be a tail back. With the big line and say an extra TE and a FB no body would get to her… or is Cat’s blog another one we got to play???

Attended my 1st Tsai-ko blog lunch yesterday – great gathering – kudos to Mrs Donovan (oops, sorry, Tracy) for being the coordinator of the event – got to meet celebs Bob Houge, Robert Kekaula, Curtis Murayama, and of course, the Tsai-master himself – must not leave out Princess Leila – “Shime-sama”, a pleasure and honor.

Great opportunity to match face with “call-sign” – Tom Mui, Darren, Wrek, Prideperiod, Made in Hawaii and Mrs, Peaches and SteveM, DKP, Addahnojoe, and Jay.

Tracy commented that passerbys were looking at our group in a curios way, probably saying to themselves, who are they and why? – my observation of the group was that of warmth and mutual respect for each other and being UH sports fans, espcially football – Tsai-master, you are truly blessed to be surrounded by such terrific individuals!!

Aloha, Tsaikos. Boy, if I miss a day it’s getting harder and harder to catch up with the blog. Nice bantering today. Tsai-Meister not here? Free play starts early, hah? Sometimes this blog has the feel of some friendly neighbors chit-chatting over the fence in the back yard, that’s kind of nice. Keep your fingers crossed for me, two big days coming up.

    05/03/07 @ 19:44

I had a hard time catching up too, Ted, and I peeked in at noon and 3:00. My biggest complaint is that I wasn’t free to jump in too. It looks like a long spell till footballs fill the blog in July. Yes, we have neighbors chatting from neighbor islands and the continental U.S.

I’ll await correction, but I don’t think ST rescinded the “5 F’s” of the blog– football, food, friends, family, and fun (as established during football season, so it reasonable to assume the sport flows with the season somewhat). Good day– maybe better when Al gets all his fingers on a working computer again… and bulla’s back…

    05/03/07 @ 20:23

    Comment from: SteveM [Visitor]

Yeah, he should have his own blog [Al] . But we need him here. ST calls it “chemistry”. I call it synergy. We can’t afford to lose pieces.

A woman stopped by unannounced at her son’s house.

She knocked on the door, then immediately walked in.

She was shocked to see her daughter-in-law lying on the couch, totally naked. Soft music was playing and the aroma of perfume filled the room.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“I’m waiting for Mike to come home from work,” the daughter-in-law answered.

“But you’re naked!” the mother-in-law exclaimed.

“This is my love dress,” the daughter-in-law explained.

    “Love dress? But you’re naked!”

“Mike loves me to wear this dress,” she explained. “It excites him to no end. Every

time he sees me in this dress, he instantly becomes romantic and ravages me for hours on end. He can’t get enough of me.”

    The mother-in-law left.

When she got home, she undressed, showered, put on her best perfume, dimmed the lights, put on a romantic CD, laid on the couch waiting for her husband to arrive.

Finally, her husband came home. He walked in and saw her lying there so provocatively.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“This is my love dress,” she whispered, sensually.

“Needs ironing,” he said. “What’s for dinner”?

#150 – let someone who is going to save 500 gallons a year buy it, as opposed to the 75 gallons a year that you’re going to save. It will do more good for the planet.

  155. SteveM May 3, 2011 9:25 pm

    Gigi:

    You got a reverse mortgage?

You’re not leaving your place to the kids?

What I don’t like about a reverse mortgage is the bank wins if you die early.

  157. jm2375 May 3, 2011 9:25 pm

al-san – #155 – sad to say, many doctors refuse to treat seniors who only have Medicare. The govt doesn’t reimburse them enough.

  158. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 9:28 pm

al, no he has a lot of money in the bank, goes on frequent trips abroad, so no, he is not on Medicaid.

    He’s on Medicare.

  159. al May 3, 2011 9:29 pm

gg…listen to el burro sabio. this is the same thing my service station manager told me. he did the math as to the break even point.

buy the car only if you plan to drive around the island every day. (i am guessing that you drive less than one trip around the island each month)

the service station manager did a cost analysis between a regular toyota highlander and a hybrid model. when he caluclated the price variance between the two highlanders he figured he needed to go around the island nearly two times per day to break even. (and he gets his gas at cost.)

you would be better off purchasing a regular car similar in size and performance to the leaf.

  160. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 9:30 pm

ST, there are are pros and cons with reverse mortgages. We had absolutely no choice but to go that route.

Hubby was demoted and sustained a $23K pay cut. Not enough income to pay the regular mortgage.

  161. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 9:32 pm

    Re: the Leaf.

It will pay off if it LASTS a long time.

Verdict is still out as to whether the Leaf has longevity.

  162. J May 3, 2011 9:33 pm

I sometimes have to commute RT 200 miles a day. Trying to now only drive that two or three times a month.

  163. al May 3, 2011 9:36 pm

    jm9999 and gigi,

today i heard a sad story. a friend of ours has been under care for years now. she is under medicaid benefits as all of their resources were depleted. she is experiencing some nerve damage and requires surgery.

her husband has pleaded with dozens of doctors to perform the work including the first doctor who treated her.

sadly, nothing can be done. he even offered to pay cash by borrowing the money to pay for the surgical procedure to no avail.

i say, a list of those refusing to treat people all because of the lowered amounts that they would receive, should be published for the general public to become aware of these doctors who once pledged to provdie the best medical care for the good of mankind.

  164. al May 3, 2011 9:40 pm

the banks win in a reverse mortgage regardless if one dies early or later. the accrued interest is unbelievable in the end.

however, for some it is the only viable recourse.

Tried to get my mother-in-law on reverse mortgage. I was told that the house DOES NOT go to the bank when she dies. This is what “joe average thinks and how rumors spread. Her children, or whoever she leaves it to, takes over the house and needs to pay back the money that the bank paid to my mother-in-law by securing a mortgage loan or however. An other option would be to sell the house to pay off the money that the bank paid her. Unfortunately, she couldn’t go that route because a distant relative was living in her 6 bdr house and was paying rent. With RM, you need to live in your house full time and cannot have any boarders. She ended up selling her house and moved to Vegas.

  176. papajoe2 May 3, 2011 10:15 pm

Any one who is of age for reverse mortgage, who could use an income, should look into it. It sounded real good. We took the process all the way until she was to be interviewed by a impartial govt. person that wasn’t associated with the bank that was leading her the money. I forget at what age you can apply for the reverse mortgage. Not sure if it was 59, 62, or 65. Remember, the person or persons who will inherit the house will be responsible to pay back the money. Obviously the younger you take the loan, the RM will probably pay you longer so, whoever inherits the house will probably have to make a bigger loan to repay the bank or less of a profit should they decide to sell it.

  177. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 10:18 pm

you have to be at least 62 to qualify for a RM.

  178. gigi-hawaii May 3, 2011 10:22 pm

MetLife Bank has the lowest interest rate. 4.9%.

other banks charge way over 5%.

  179. papajoe2 May 3, 2011 10:24 pm

#173 & #177, I sound like a commercial or spam yeah, for reverse mortgage. No worry, I have nothing to do with any loans or work for any banks. Just trying to spread my limited knowledge with my fellow Tsaikos and Tsaiketts. Hope this was of some help to somebody. You will not be obligated to take the RM if you look into it. Not bad eh, for somebody who went to public school.

    J,

The HA website was fine. I could get $167 fares using the Multi-City option to fly to Seattle, then leave from SJ a couple of weeks later. But for 9/9, the first day that the low fares are available, it was up to $241 or thereabouts. There was a $167 fare available on Sunday, the 11th, the day after the game…and then on the following Tuesday. I’m sorta waiting on my Mom though, since she wanted me to go with her to Seattle since she’s never been there. I hope she can make up her mind by tomorrow…
