Would be interesting to see Mack and Tomey going at each other to fire up the team. Probably nothing that could be printed or aired would be said. HA!

Forecast is $4.50/gal this summer. Geez. Companies are getting richer while the feds want to cut their taxes.

Dunno what the forecast is for Hawai’i. Whatever the price will be will definitely continue putting a dent in the UHAD budget for team travel.

Dang. How did the trash truck miss?.A lot of trash is on the ground. He just left it all there and drove off.

    UH vs UNLV 2011

Okay folks, now that spring is here and I’ve gotten through visiting the tax man, it’s time to start organizing for the game. My hat goes out to SteveM for compiling the preliminary ticket count, which is currently at 77. A few of you have emailed me with ticket requests. I’m not sure what happened to those emails. PLEASE email your ticket requests to SteveM so I can get an idea of how many tickets to get this year.

As in past years, UNLV won’t sell tickets to the general public until season ticket holders get first crack. If I can’t somehow use my charm to get the tickets earlier, I will fly to Vegas the first day of ticket sales and see what kind of block I can get. Regardless, I should know how much the tickets will be prior to flying out there, and I will pass them along to you at cost. (Of course, an extra $1 or $2 to cover my travel costs is always appreciated, but not required.)

    Gotta run…

  34. Da Punchbowl Kid April 6, 2011 9:13 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

“NCAA teams are allowed 15 on-field practices during spring training. By spreading the practices over 41 days, including the one-week hiatus for spring break, the Warriors are able to use the non-practice days for weight training and conditioning.”

Not to mention it gives rabid Warriors fans much needed news and information about the team during that time. 🙂

  35. Bowwar April 6, 2011 9:16 am

What storm??? Yawn…Just have a lousy sinus headache due the change in weather and humidity. Good day for a scrimmage…

  36. Chris Hilo April 6, 2011 9:28 am

When does the Kamehameha-Hawaii practice/scrimmage start? Any news on the format?

  37. Kekoa April 6, 2011 9:28 am

Rich2176 ~ I’m still in for 2 tickets to the UH/UNLV game. My ticket order was submitted to SteveM for the purpose of letting you know how many of us were committed.

There will be more interest as Sep. approaches, but don’t wait until last minute! I would encourage those who want to sit together with the Tsai-ko Nation to submit their ticket requests early to SteveM.

Thanks, I coach at Hilo High and it’s really a shame it conflicts with track meets so a lot of the football boys can’t come. I’m bringing a couple of my freshman lineman to check it out – big boys!

  43. Chris Hilo April 6, 2011 9:57 am

I have four freshman lineman, and the smallest one is 5’11 240. UH should also get on recruiting Tarikeni (Isi) Holani – he is the cousin of Semisi Tokolahi and is a complete natural. He’s a legit 6’1 230, but has very long arms and massive hands that he will grow into. Great natural athleticism and will easily be a D1-A prospect when he is an upperclassmen.

  44. Chris Hilo April 6, 2011 10:00 am

Making the final four in basketball is just like getting to a BCS bowl game. The feeling would be unbelievable. Can you imagine if the Rainbow Warriors are in the final four! This state would go crazy. With VCU getting there and with Butler doing it 2 years in a row and George Mason also making it, mid-majors must be salivating. Gib Arnold knows what kinds of players he needs for our program. The challenge is to sell the kids to commit to our team. Good guard play can take the team a long way. Players who can handle the ball, dish it, and shoot it well. The 2 best players for UConn were Walker and Lamb, both guards. You still need the trees to defend and have a post presence however. We need a holy grail in basketball. We’ve had a holy grail in football and we’re looking for another. You have to remember that the State of Hawaii has had a national champions before and even world champions. Like the Little Leaguers, Wahine volleyball, HPU softball, and even Hawaii Loa won a National Championship in basketball. So, it can be done!! Let’s keep deaming!!! My life is nearly 50% complete. The 49ers have won the Super Bowl 5 times, my SF Giants won the World Series after 50 years since moving from New York. I already made a Hole in One in golf. I’ve seen an unbeaten UH football team in 2007. I’ve enjoyed watching my favorite basketball player ever, Michael Jordan and I’m waiting to see my favorite golfer, Woods, win more majors and break Jack’s record. Sadly, Tiger, right now is not relavant right now. His golfing statistics would show that he ranks pooring in driving accuracy, is average in greens in regulation, and is getting worse with the putter. Because of the first two, he puts more presssure on his pitching, chipping, and putting. Will this week be the week he puts it all together? Tomorrow we’ll find out. I’m not optimistic, but I am hopeful. He needs to have some luck and some good karma. He’s been pretty bad the last 12 months by his standards but I think it’s more mental than physical. More golf fans have turned on him and you can feel the vibes that people are hoping he fails and that Mickelson is more popular. You can see the reaction by the gallaries. For me, I just want to see Woods play consistant golf and not make so many bogies. Once he improves his driving accuracy it takes the pressure off the other parts of his game.

I know a lot of people who went straight to Rich the last 2 years did not atttend any Tsai-ko functions–so are perhaps hesitant. No problem. Getting tickets from Rich does not require you attend Tsai-ko activities, although you are certainly invited. Similarly, just because you already have tickets doesn’t mean you can’t attend the Rasu Begasu activities…

Let’s see who and how many from the worldwide Tsai-ko community will be converging on Vegas this year!

  72. Kazz April 6, 2011 2:13 pm

I’m always fascinated with the articles Ferd writes with regards to the finances at UH Manoa with regards to UH athletics.

Sometimes you will find a legitimate gripe, but stil yet for the most part, it becomes an argument of people that don’t like sports and people that do and BOTH sides to not yield to the other’s concerns.

I received my education at UH Manoa and I think I like UH sports… (sarcasm)… I feel for BOTH sides.

What I do NOT feel for are simple flamers, mostly the ones calling for an end to UH’s Division 1 status as they remind me of that off-beat woman that insulted the UH BOR on a personal level as well as professional level at the meeting I attended when they were to decide on the activities fee.

But what surprises me the most is how ignorant people are of Title IX. I love Title IX, I love and respect the idea for it’s inception. But at the same token, I am not living in a fairy tale universe and I understand it’s financial burden, but I cannot believe how some people are holding UH itself responsible for not cutting most female sports because they do not generate income.

  73. wafan April 6, 2011 2:26 pm

    Kazz . . .

Blissful people abound. Seems to be the modern norm to get only partial information then make major decisions.

    Crazy folks.

    Bowwar,

The game is going to be played at Husky Stadium. Washington only plays one game at Quest this season and that is the Apple Cup at the end of the season. They start their renovations after the Oregon game on November 5th.

I wish we were playing at Quest. We’re undefeated there.

  76. Kazz April 6, 2011 2:38 pm

    Wafan,

Too often people make accusations based on assumption.

    It’s irritating. GIANT babies.

  77. Kazz April 6, 2011 2:40 pm

    Wafan,

I want to argue that it’s not a “modern” norm to make assuptions and make big decisions.

It’s something that has survived for generations and adjusts to the situation of the time it manifests itself in.

We as a people, as a race, allow for history’s mistakes to repeat themselves. They just arise in different forms of ignorance and discrimination based on issues at the time.

  78. jm2375 April 6, 2011 2:49 pm

Kazz – like it’s been said before, a successful sports program benefits the whole campus in increased applications (hopefully from out-of-state students) and increased donations (and sponsorships).

Is UH the only school where the Athletic Dept must repay their “loans” from the administration?

  79. Jack Flash April 6, 2011 2:54 pm

#75- my bad, thanks for clarifying.

  80. wafan April 6, 2011 3:00 pm

    Kazz . . .

The norm in the classroom is at an all time new low. Hence my use of the term modern norm.

The worst part is the role of the helicopter parents.

There should be a test and license required to have kids. Lack of common sense and basic parenting skills. Really sad. The kids are the ones who end up suffering the most. Well, so do the teachers and, in the worst cases, society.

  81. wafan April 6, 2011 3:03 pm

Long time Husky fans I know are salivating at getting their hands on the Warriors at Husky Stadium. They acknowledge Qwest Field, while nice, just does not provide the home field advantage as Husky Stadium does.

Besides, the UW owns their stadium and concessions. Why would they want to give that up?

  82. jm2375 April 6, 2011 3:07 pm

  84. wafan April 6, 2011 3:14 pm

Geez. 2 Billion in cuts to education coming down the pike for Washington.

Looks like a lot of teachers wiith less than 2 years experience will be without a teaching position next year. Class sizes are going to be crazy with projections as high as 32-37:1. Cannot imagine having to grade math tests, English and Social Studies papers! Kids who need additional assistance might not get it.

A recent poll conducted by the Organization for Economic and Co-Operative Development established what the most educated countries in the world are. It came as quite a shock to us when we saw what place the United States landed in.

These stats are based upon the percentage of a nations population between, 25 and 64, that has obtained an associates degree or higher.

    1) Russian Federation 54 percent

    2) Canada 48.3 percent

    3) Israel 43.6 percent

If it is I the MAP (MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE) sensor then that is around a $40-$80 part. Should be easy to buy and install yourself. Probably located near the intake area secured by a couple of bolts.

Here’s a sample of costs…Changed plugs, o-rings, valve cover gaskets, and oil for a Honda. If I took it to a mechanic or dealership it would have cost $350+. Changed brake master cylinder and bled brakes, and changed alternator and a/c belts on my old reliable truck. It would have cost another arm. All parts costs a little over $100. Savings is going towards new SUP fund. 😆

P0107 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input

P0108 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input

Start with simple stuff like battery, oil change, spark plugs, filters, radiators, cooling system, belts, water pump, alternator, starter, shocks, stuff that can be unbolted and put back…the harder ones are transmissions, overhauls, timing belt (if you don’t know what to line up), brakes, stuff that estimates would cost you over $800.

You know that the budget situation in Texas is really bad when they actually start cutting FOOTBALL teams. For now it appears to be limited to one district and just freshmen and JV football…but cutting $7.8 bil isn’t going to be easy. This directly affects UH because the recruiting implications of less opportunities for Texas athletes will be felt through all D-IA.

The Keller school district, facing a budget deficit of up to $30 million next year, is cutting $800,000 from its athletic budget. About 1,000 students will lose the opportunity to participate in athletics, including previously untouchable football, as the district will set a maximum number of teams for each sport.

Coaches will also lose their jobs. An assistant will be eliminated from every team that has more than one.

The cuts come as the state Legislature plans a reduction of up to $7.8 billion in educational funding.

UIL assistant athletic director Peter Contreras could not recall football ever being targeted in the state.

“The closest I’ve seen is districts putting in a pay-to-play system,” said Contreras, who has been with the UIL for 21 years. “If they cut football, it is because they have exhausted all other possibilities.”

  147. Garret April 6, 2011 9:17 pm

I am glad that there were a couple of recent articles in the Star-Advertiser about UH’s difficult budget situation, because I think that too many people forget the accumulated deficit and the annual deficit. Just recently there were a bunch of people talking about paying athletes in revenue sports, with others like Kazz correctly pointing out that if you pay football and basketball players you have to pay all scholarship athletes for things to be equitable.

EVERYBODY who was thinking about the “profit” that schools make from football and men’s basketball forgot to mention that most D-IA schools lose money on Athletics! The “profit” isn’t money that can just be given to football and basketball players…Universities are using that money to pay for all of the money-losing sports that Title IX requires! There is NO PROFIT at UH.

The articles mentioned that UH has a total deficit of about $10 mil and used to be losing $2 mil/year. What none of the articles mention (but you can clearly see if the financial reports from UH) is that Upper Campus has been spending *$10 million* per year to subsidize Athletics. Even when UHAD was supposedly losing $2 mil per year, UH Athletics was counting the other $8 mil from Upper Campus as “revenue”. That money wasn’t coming from ticket sales or TV rights…it was coming from our tax dollars and directly taking away from what the University can do.

So, I agree with the article that says that Upper Campus has to forget about ever getting back the $10 mil debt and forget about UH Athletics ever breaking even. They also need to forget about the $8 mil per year that they give for Athletics that is *not* being required to be paid back.

UHAD needs *more* money in order to pay the travel subsidies for the MWC and Big West and to compensate for the lesser TV money UH will be getting. The student fees were a starting point, but that doesn’t even get rid of the annual deficit. UH needs to increase the Athletics fee, to maximize revenues by allowing the SSC to have other revenue generating activities, and to somehow get luxury boxes installed at Aloha Stadium.

If none of those things are done, UHAD will continue to get further in debt and will not be able to spend what it needs to spend to upgrade facilities, keep the coaches they want to keep and attract other good coaches, get the support the athletes need in compliance and other areas, and to give UH athletes the best chance possible to win. If nothing is done and Upper Campus keeps insisting on a balanced budget, Jim Donovan will have to keep cutting…that just leads to a limited chance for UH to win. Hawaii fans will support winners, but UHAD doesn’t have the money to provide the best chance to win for UH’s athletes.

My rant is over now. Sorry to interrupt the blog topics tonight.

Could La Tech be planning to leave the WAC to go to the Sun Belt? It looks like the Sun Belt will be getting a bigger ESPN contract as ESPN cuts the WAC’s TV deal.

The Sun Belt would only consider universities with an established Football Bowl Subdivision program currently aligned with another conference. And the conference would want any new member to fit into its geographical footprint.

the Sun Belt would likely poach a school from either the Western Athletic — which will lose four teams to the MWC in the next two years — or the Mid-American conferences.

And, winnowing the field even more, the southern-most MAC school is Ohio University — far from a tropical destination.

But although the WAC has foundered in recent years, the Sun Belt has grown. A record three teams received bowl bids in 2010, and the Sun Belt’s 6-5 postseason record since 2005 is the fifth-best winning percentage among the 11 FBS conferences.

Defending champion FIU will appear on national TV three times in 2011, and the conference is currently renegotiating a deal with ESPN that would further broaden its exposure.

CBS Sports says that budget cuts could force Nevada to drop out of D-IA football. I doubt that will happen, but after the cut it looks like UH will be spending more than $30 mil on Athletics and Nevada will be under $20 mil.

Nevada will be joining the Mountain West in 2012, but thanks to some budget cuts the school’s athletics department is facing, it’s possible that the school may no longer be a Division I program by the time 2012 gets here. According to athletic director Cary Groth, the school is facing a $1.5 million cut in state-appropriated funds that could “change the face of the department.”

To put that cut in perspective, Nevada’s annual budget for its athletic department is $20 million, so it’s a 7.5% reduction in the schools’ budget. The easiest way for Nevada to find some extra money, aside from cuts to the athletic department staff, would be to reduce scholarships or cut sports. There are problems with that plan, though. First off, the school already cut its ski team in 2010, and it’s at the Division I minimum of six men’s sports already. Which means that whatever sport was cut, it would have to be one of the eight women’s teams, which would cause a problem with Title IX.

  161. Curt April 6, 2011 9:49 pm

    Garret,

It’s so tough for UH to compete and remain competitive with the big boys when we face significant financial and geographical disadvantages. Despite these issues, I think UH has succeeded despite the handicaps. But what really burns me is the travel extortion/subsidies that we have to pay for MWC entry. It’s not right nor fair that we pay the full chartered round-trip flights from their school to the islands. In the years ahead when finances get even tighter and oil approaches $200 a barrel, it’ll be far worse. That’s a real bummer.

Off Topic…Got this from a friend this evening and wanted to share. Something to think about.

Subject: A true story of what is happening in Japan

Dear friends, this was forwarded to me and it is a reminder for us to have gratitude that we are alive and well. I have noticed that there is very little news about Japan other than the nuclear reactor issues. Unlike Hurricane Katrina or the 2004 Indonesia tsunami, the general public knows very little of what is happening in the aftermath of the tsunami in Japan and the toll it has taken on the people. Yet, the spirit and dignity of the Japanese people remains intact and below is an amazing account by one man in the center of the disaster. As we go about our daily lives, let us pause now and then and wish the Japanese people well.

    http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/?id=467066&type=Opinion

THIS letter, written by Vietnamese immigrant Ha Minh Thanh working in Fukushima as a policeman to a friend in Vietnam, is a testimonial to the strength of the Japanese spirit, and an interesting slice of life near the epicenter of Japan’s crisis at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. It was translated by NAM editor Andrew Lam, author of “East Eats West: Writing in Two

    Hemispheres.” Shanghai Daily condensed it.

Brother, How are you and your family? These last few days, everything was in chaos. When I close my eyes, I see dead bodies. When I open my eyes, I also see dead bodies. Each one of us must work 20 hours a day, yet I wish there were 48 hours in the day, so that we could continue helping and rescuing folks. We are without water and electricity, and food rations are near zero. We barely manage to move refugees before there are new orders to move them elsewhere.

I am currently in Fukushima, about 25 kilometers away from the nuclear power plant. I have so much to tell you that if I could write it all down, it would surely turn into a novel about human relationships and behaviors during times of crisis. People here remain calm – their sense of dignity and proper behavior are very good – so things aren’t as bad as they could be. But given another week, I can’t guarantee that things won’t get to a point where we can no longer provide proper protection and order. They are humans after all, and when hunger and thirst override dignity, well, they will do whatever they have to do. The government is trying to provide supplies by air, bringing in food and medicine, but it’s like dropping a little salt into the ocean.

Brother, there was a really moving incident. It involves a little Japanese boy who taught an adult like me a lesson on how to behave like a human being. Last night, I was sent to a little grammar school to help a charity organization distribute food to the refugees. It was a long line that snaked this way and that and I saw a little boy around 9 years old. He was wearing a T-shirt and a pair of shorts. It was getting very cold and the boy was at the very end of the line. I was worried that by the time his turn came there wouldn’t be any food left. So I spoke to him. He said he was at school when the earthquake happened. His father worked nearby and was driving to the school. The boy was on the third floor balcony when he saw the tsunami sweep his father’s car away.

I asked him about his mother. He said his house is right by the beach and that his mother and little sister probably didn’t make it. He turned his head and wiped his tears when I asked about his relatives. The boy was shivering so I took off my police jacket and put it on him. That’s when my bag of food ration fell out. I picked it up and gave it to him. “When it comes to your turn, they might run out of food. So here’s my portion. I already ate. Why don’t you eat it?”

The boy took my food and bowed. I thought he would eat it right away, but he didn’t. He took the bag of food, went up to where the line ended and put it where all the food was waiting to be distributed. I was shocked. I asked him why he didn’t eat it and instead added it to the food pile. He answered: “Because I see a lot more people hungrier than I am. If I put it there, then they will distribute the food equally.”

When I heard that I turned away so that people wouldn’t see me cry.

A society that can produce a 9-year-old who understands the concept of sacrifice for the greater good must be a great society, a great people.

Well, a few lines to send you and your family my warm wishes. The hours of my shift have begun again.

    Ha Minh Thanh

  167. al April 6, 2011 10:12 pm

curious…to see who the new voices of the warriors shall be.

hopefully papa jim gets a piece of some of the action.

kanoa is poised for college breakout as play by play man.

and if papa jim is not paired with kanoa or anyone for warrior football, i’d really like to see/hear the big guy, robert kekaula in the booth next to kanoa. i think it would make a great pairing.

  168. al April 6, 2011 10:13 pm

i think if one more wac team leaves it will collapse.

  169. al April 6, 2011 10:13 pm

pity those texas teams who thought that life was going to be good.

  170. LizKauai (macbook) April 6, 2011 10:14 pm

For those of you that are interested, Kymry from Kauai will be on HGTV’s House Hunters tomorrow night at 7pm HST. The first show from Kauai! Yee Haa!

  171. NorthShoreFan April 6, 2011 10:17 pm

Is it Warrior Football without Papa Jim? Used to luv Blangiardi on da side too.

  172. gigi-hawaii April 6, 2011 10:17 pm

  173. Curt April 6, 2011 10:20 pm

Thanks for sharing. So much can be taken from that one letter. God be with our friends in Japan.

  174. Curt April 6, 2011 10:22 pm

I bet it won’t take long for those two Texas schools to get up to snuff.

NSF: Thanks for the story about the Vietnamese policeman working in Japan. Prayers for them.

Hi Liz! Barbara and I just made our Las Vegas plans for September too. Can hardly wait for the event, and to be with all the Tsaikos once again.

    Love to all the Tsaikos!

  187. whitey April 6, 2011 11:15 pm

nsf @162, doesn’t the line sound familiar??? the needs of the many outweigh the needs of a few. you think the mainland media cares about this kind of news?? i no think so. all they interested in is when they going get nuclear sickness from the disaster. they don’t beg, cry, and make excuses like the katrina people. dignity and respect are foreign words to most americans.

  188. gigi-hawaii April 6, 2011 11:15 pm

  208. Curt April 6, 2011 11:36 pm

Yeah. But u also got me good the other night on Apr 1. I’m still at the airport waiting for Alcindor II just in case he shows up.

  209. al April 6, 2011 11:36 pm

hey, curt perhaps if you go to the mvb senior night you may get a glimpse of the avatars. bring your camera and we’ll identify them later.

  210. al April 6, 2011 11:37 pm

    oh, oh….kekoa was lurking.

  211. al April 6, 2011 11:38 pm

  212. al April 6, 2011 11:39 pm

i was going to go to karaoke on saturday, but, i am starting to lose my voice.

  213. Curt April 6, 2011 11:39 pm

Ha-ha. Kekoa was lurking in the wings just waiting to pounce. But, al outsmarted us again even tho he’s no young whipper-snapper anymore.

  214. al April 6, 2011 11:40 pm

tonight’s american idol was the best i’ve seen/heard it what with 9 contestants all belting out potential hits.

  215. Curt April 6, 2011 11:40 pm

At yo age, u luckee u just starting to lose only yo voice!

  216. al April 6, 2011 11:41 pm

hey, aren’t i younger than you two?

  217. al April 6, 2011 11:41 pm

don’t you lose your voice during puberty?

  218. Curt April 6, 2011 11:42 pm

Is there really a 7’3″ prospect showing up? Rememba, it’s past April 1. No leg pullin’ near midnight.

  219. al April 6, 2011 11:45 pm

at 7’3″ he would make vander joachim look like the point guard.

  220. al April 6, 2011 11:45 pm

    namar alcindor

  221. Curt April 6, 2011 11:46 pm

Yes, you’re younger and undoubtedly faster. Kekoa and I goin’ to still get u when u least expect it. So watch out.

  222. SteveM April 6, 2011 11:50 pm

    200 !

  223. al April 6, 2011 11:50 pm

    hahahahaha…catch me if you can.

  224. Curt April 6, 2011 11:50 pm

Now I know u pulling my leg. No one on this planet is named namar or ramar alcindor. I googled it and no matches. Remember, it’s past April 1; no leg pulling after that time.

  225. Curt April 6, 2011 11:51 pm

    SteveM,

U even slower den Kekoa and I.

  226. al April 6, 2011 11:52 pm

stevem…peels himself off of his keyboard. having once again nodded out while trying to scoop the ever elusive one for the all important and prestigious post number 200.

  227. SteveM April 6, 2011 11:54 pm

Al again, huh? Nuthin’ new… time was we used to battle it out for 500, 600 and 700. We both have at least one apiece…but Al has more… 😆

Nowadays 400 would be armageddon. 🙁

  228. al April 6, 2011 11:54 pm

its a nickname that is why.

  229. Kekoa April 6, 2011 11:57 pm

Whenever I meet lurkers and they ask me what AL is really

Whenever I meet new Tsaiko’s or just lurkers, they’ll usually ask me, “what’s Al really like?”

It’s hard to tell them the truth because it’s stranger than fiction! I end up tellng about him talking to birds, teasing Gigi about her 50 questions on every subject and pulling April Fools jokes on some unsuspecting folks.

The Hilo Tsaiko’s will prolly ask about Sensei Al, and his penchant for pouncing on blog benchmarks. Paybacks are a M@$!%*&%.

like…Ho boy! It takes me 2 hrs to get it all out!

  230. Curt April 7, 2011 12:00 am

Prestigious my foot. I’m so frustrated that al is dreaming up fantasy recruits and snagging prestigious post #200. Pretty soon, he’ll tell us Big Foot is here. I think it’s time to pound da pillow to release some tension.

  231. al April 7, 2011 12:00 am

curt…am i kidding? then why is he still going out there?????

    http://www.warriorinsider.com/2011/04/arnold-still-recruiting/

  232. Kekoa April 7, 2011 12:01 am

Is it me or my memorex…that last post came out all gibberish! No wonder I couldn’t sneak up on Al.

  233. al April 7, 2011 12:02 am

kekoa…i hope you are telling them that i am an engaging person, full of wit and charm. and most of all i love to eat a lot of good food.

  234. Curt April 7, 2011 12:09 am

Good night all. al has me dreamin’ of 7’3″ avatars jumping over a white picket fence. zzzzzzzzz

  235. al April 7, 2011 12:10 am

speaking of food…if you live in the kahala area or anywhere within a reasonable proximity the old tony roma’s which then became chin’s is now the second golden duck restaurant.

so tonight i ordered the roast duck/cold ginger chicken on rice plate. at least 3 lbs and to their credit they put the best pieces for you rot enjoy. at 8.95 i think it is cheaper than a zipac. and if you like jai or bitter melon and black bean….

  236. al April 7, 2011 12:10 am

    curt, curt….wait.

look for the subliminal message in the name….

    namar alcindor.

  237. SteveM April 7, 2011 12:10 am

    Good night, Gracie…

  238. Kekoa April 7, 2011 12:11 am

    Al ~

Kudos to the DPK ohana for stepping up with a terrific place to host the Tsaiko post scrimmage get-together. In fact the ‘Kid’ sez he may just hop a plane and go over! The pot luck dishes are shaping up to be very impressive!

I was telling SteveM how these big island Tsaiko’s are sounding like the rest of us when it comes to putting together a good party. They really haven’t even met each other face-to-face yet, and they are already injecting some of the warm and friendly words in their emails to each other.

  239. Kazz April 7, 2011 12:16 am

    1) UH get $$$$ problems. So sell huli huli chicken.

    2) UH Warrior Football will be UH Warrior Football regardless of the voice of it on TV. I like Papa Leahey and I met him in person and the guy is an icon. How many times have I wrote on here how I used to watch UH baseball on K5 back in the day at my grandparents house. My grandpa would fall asleep and all that would be left is me staring at the TV and Jim Leahey’s voice in the background.

    3) The lesson? NO ONE is above the legacy of University of Hawaii Athletics as a whole and what it represents. For all the BAD people and for all the GOOD people representing UH or working for UH, they are smaller parts of the whole. It IS bigger than any ONE person. We can have oodles and oodles of respect for individuals and their accomplishments, but when it is all said and done and every single on of us have passed on, UH athletics will continue on without us for the fans, coaches, and student-athletes of the future.

  240. al April 7, 2011 12:20 am

kekoa…introduce them to the theory of cattle calls.

  241. al April 7, 2011 12:21 am

kazz…i’ll buy two chicken and one roll sushi.

  242. Curt April 7, 2011 12:23 am

Sorry al. I can’t read your subterranean messages. namar alcindor. Nope. Can anyone see what al’s talking about?

  243. PowderPuff April 7, 2011 12:28 am

Sorry if I missed them (posts about it), but how was the AKA dinner tonight? I can’t believe the UH basketball banquet is going to be held at a place I’m very familiar with…wow! That’s on Thursday, April 21.

Dang. A 7.4 in Japan. Same area as before.

When will they get a break.

  251. wafan April 7, 2011 4:46 am

    Hi MW!

Hope things are improving on the Hawai’i front.

  252. wafan April 7, 2011 4:47 am

    Hoping no tsunami is generated.

Oops. Tsunami warning in Japan. Look out Hawai’i!

  253. wafan April 7, 2011 4:51 am

No tsunami warning or watch along the continental US coast.

  254. wafan April 7, 2011 4:56 am

Scattered snow and hail in We(s)tern Washington. Probably snowing on the other side of the hill.

Freezing where I am and 27 in Bremerton.

  255. Michigan Warrior April 7, 2011 5:05 am

Homey… do you know if auto parts stores back home use Code Scanners? All auto parts stores here in Michigan use them. These Code Scanners come with a book that identifies every fault code. However, some stores’ policies prevents them from telling us what the code means. It’s up to us to take the code and look up the info ourselves. Something about liability.

Before taking your car into a shop, arm yourselves with some knowledge of what may be possibly wrong first. It’s free as a courtesy, and only takes a few seconds.

  256. wafan April 7, 2011 5:05 am

Never really thought about this. The floatsam from Japan’s earthquake and tsunami is expected to wash ashore in Hawai’i next year, thw West Coast in 2014, and then back to Hawai’i there after.

  257. wafan April 7, 2011 5:07 am

Time to head in for grading and catching up with paperwork.

    Where is my overtime pay?!?!

    HA!

  258. Michigan Warrior April 7, 2011 5:09 am

    Aloha, wafan!

We were hoping he’d be moved out of the ICU already, but he’s still not strong enough for that to happen. Mahalo!

Yeah, we woke up to near freezing temps again. Can’t stand this time of the year, with the temperature fluctuations. Supposed to reach about 50 today and tomorrow, then 70 on Sunday. Hasn’t been 70 here since the end of October. Then, supposed to drop back down and rain when the kids go back to school. Just hope it won’t snow on Easter, like it did a few years ago!

  259. Michigan Warrior April 7, 2011 5:12 am

Still trying to figure if I’d be able to make it to Vegas in September. Right now, it’s not looking too good. Just far too many things going on. If possible, I’d like to drop in for the game, and fly back a few hours later. We’ll see…

  260. Michigan Warrior April 7, 2011 5:37 am

I like Coach Arnold’s approach to the Asian Market…

“Number one, even from the beginning when I interviewed for the job, I still do believe that the Asian market, in time, could be huge for us,” Arnold said. “Basketball’s become so popular … in China in particular, if and when those gates ever really do open, when the top college-age student-athletes are able to leave, then I think we need to be at the forefront of that. So this is as much of a building-relationships tour as anything else.”

  261. Michigan Warrior April 7, 2011 5:41 am

Better get started with the huli huli chicken, sweet bread, Portuguese sausage sales, and car washes! Plus, carnival season is coming up too! Gotta partner up with EK Fernandez shows! Get some donation booths set up! I mean, people already going to the carnival to waste money. Why not give in support of the Home Team, instead of that one roller coaster ride?

  262. Michigan Warrior April 7, 2011 5:47 am

Wonder if EK Fernandez Shows would rent out (or lease) their basketball games to UH for a whole carnival season? Repaint the displays with UH Green, and all proceeds go to UHAD. Maybe prizes for baskets made can be UH stuff like those foam shakas… you know.. inexpensive stuff.

  263. Michigan Warrior April 7, 2011 5:53 am

Love ST’s article about “Young linemen show they can play”.

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/20110407_Young_linemen_show_they_can_play.html

The more we get these youngsters into the rotation early, the better off we’ll be in the future. Hats off to Coach Shaw!

“I like their physical-ness,” Shaw said. “They’re coming along with their fundamentals. They’re going to be very good. It’s like a painting that’s not finished.”

  264. d1shima April 7, 2011 6:02 am

    Great (wet) Morning All!

22 Apr 2011 – The very public beach has been almost completely blocked off by rental equipment, jetski, canie, paddle boards, hobbie cat, stacked on the beach all the way into the water. All this equipment is from the one vendor and stored/operated on the Ritz beach front property. It is illegal to block off lateral access on a public beach.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  331. asics blackhawk April 25, 2011 8:51 pm

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

  332. christian louboutin sales April 26, 2011 3:56 pm

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  333. jimmy choo outlet April 26, 2011 10:08 pm

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  334. cheap links of london April 27, 2011 4:01 am

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I suppose Aol. Should be equally the most beneficial plus the worst from the 12 months. It’s the greatest, due to the fact yes, it will be noticed the most. It also does set a long run for the brand, pretty diverse from their previous as Online, Inc. It will be also pretty imaginative; it will be incredibly unique. It ought to be the worst even though since the execution is horrible. The idea, on the other hand is resourceful, just sucks. There exists very little cons istency, and the wordmark bores me.
