Green runs for 327 yards; UH clinches share of title

LAS CRUCES — Alex Green’s school-record 327 rushing yards boosted the Warriors to a 59-24 victory over New Mexico State and a share of the WAC title.

It was the Warriors’ fourth WAC title in 32 seasons. Only once have they won the regular-season championship outright, in 2007. They shared titles in 1992 and 1999. But the WAC does not compute head-to-head matchups in distributing trophies, so if things should stand — UH, Nevada and Boise State each have one WAC loss — there will co-champions. Besides, how do you resolve this triangle: UH beat Nevada, which beat Boise State, which beat UH.

* * * * *

It has been an all-in adventure for Boise State, which came close to playing in the national title game, and now: 1) might be out of the top 10 in the voting, 2) out of a BCS bowl. There has to be some trade talks, one would imagine, in terms of bowl placement. It would make sense to keep Boise State in its hometown bowl, but New Mexico probably would not relish taking Nevada, whose fans don’t travel in great numbers. Thing is, with both teams set to leave the WAC — Boise State in July, Nevada in July 2012 — maybe the MWC commissioner should be the one making some calls.

these 10 am games for hawaii are difficult to get used to when trying to work around the day and other games.

Wonder if there will be more Hawaii fans in the stands vs. NMSU fans.

    Brew-

I didn’t make the trip. My son’s girlfriend is visiting from Abilene and I have to take her back on Sunday. Too much driving in one day to be safe (return from Las Cruces, then round trip to Abilene). I’ll be cheering while watching on ESPN3.

Heh, heh. I earned lots of credits from the boss by staying home which will be cashed in to take a 2-week road trip to Washington and UNLV next year! I’ve already got it mapped out.

  25. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 6:12 am

a thought…. I think the Pac-10 is short on Bowl eligible teams. Would UH (and the fans) be tempted by an LV Bowl offer? I know, probably doesn’t make financial $sen$e…. and won’t happen…. 😐

Interesting to see how irate Boise fans are at the kicker for missing those two field goals. What happened to the other 30 or so guys during the other 145 plays of the game? They don’t get any blame for the loss?

  30. Pride. November 27, 2010 6:21 am

Interesting. It only takes an hour longer to drive to L.A. a few states over than it takes to drive in-state to Houston.

  31. Matt November 27, 2010 6:22 am

    bb,

There is no way that they are going to match two teams from the WAC in the Hawaii Bowl; especially any of those teams. The WAC has to meet all of their bowl tie-ins first (Hawaii, Humanitarian, New Mexico, and Fight Hunger bowls). Those bowls are going to want the top teams in the conference. If C-USA doesn’t have enough teams to meet their obligation, I wouldn’t mind seeing Notre Dame make the trip over here so we can get some payback for Mack’s first year.

  32. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 6:23 am

Mr. Pride – your analysis was (as always) spot on. The donk lines won the first half, but fatigue set in and Reno’s OL/DL took over in the 2nd. Game over.

  33. Pride. November 27, 2010 6:24 am

  37. Pride. November 27, 2010 6:32 am

#32 – I’m the very one who is always saying that the Warrior coaches need to play the back-ups, once we get the lead. However I do understand the school of thought that says, your starters need to be in game shape ready to play four quarters. When you yank them early from games, it affects their game conditioning. Game conditioning cannot be duplicated in practice. Don’t matter how many sprints you may run.

So I stand corrected, for all of the times I asked why the coaches didn’t put in the reserves earlier. Last night was a good example of why it needs to be done carefully.

  38. Good morning everyone! Play well, Warriors & Wahine, and don’t take anything for granted. Two great teams have fallen down this week even though everyone predicted blowouts.

Hard to believe that we’re now 98 days past the USC game. Time sure passes quickly when the End of Life-time is fast approaching.

Off to work – back around 10 pm.

  43. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 6:39 am

#37 – Again (like a broken record…) – I agree. Play the reserves as early as you can, but the starters need to be ready to play later in the game! 😐

BTW – do young people even know what “like a broken record” even means? 🙄

  44. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 6:41 am

Rumor is the players had to hold Ault upside down to see him smile after yesterday’s upset win …. 🙄

  45. Pomai November 27, 2010 6:42 am

Pride your post from the last blog is spot on:

Warriors need to learn from that Nevada-Boise game. Gotta bring your lunch pail to work everyday. Every game is a dogfight. Nobody is going to rollover for you. Not even the Las Cruces Aggies.

Always be careful of the opponent that has nothing to lose, and a lot to prove.

Every single one of us will do whatever it takes to get respect. We’ll bite, scratch, and claw to get it. A man who is down and has nothing to fight for other than respect, is a dangerous man. The Aggies are dangerous.

  46. CoolEthan November 27, 2010 6:42 am

Pride, I like Oregon’s philosophy on training short and fast for practice days. Long distance runners have also adopted this type of training. Marathon die hards have backed off of LSD (long slow distance) and reduced overall mileage for shorter distance, but faster pace.

This is sure working for the Ducks and fun to watch them play at that pace of game.

  51. chawan_cut November 27, 2010 6:50 am

    you gotta wonder….

kellen moore is having one of the best statistical seasons ever. (i hate that he might break colt’s records). does he stay for his senior year or does he go? this year he (was) a heisman candidate. they almost had a shot at being in the championship game. he loses his top 2 wr’s (Young & Pettis) and one of his top RBs (Avery). sure boise just reloads, but does he risk a subpar season next year or go for it this year.

the nfl is a finicky league and go with hype and popularity. look what happened to colt.

although i haven’t kept track all year of what they say of his stats. are they saying its system related? or his skill?

boise’s gotta be wondering what he’ll decide.

for nevada on the other hand, this was their year to do it all. they’ve lived and died by kaepernick for 4 years. have we ever heard of his backup in all those years? taua is also a senior.

In all 4 years of Kaepernick starting, I’ve yet to recall him being injured or missing a game.

Very impressive. He seems to have instinct of not letting himself get into situations of getting hurt.

Betcha he ends up going into baseball.

GO WARRIORS! I still can’t believe that BSU fell to Nevada yesterday.

I am glad we have a chance to become co-champs, but am sad that BSU won’t be playing for national champ.

And so it goes in the tumultuous world of football…

  57. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 7:10 am

Happy Game Day, Warriors and Warrior Fans!!!

A piece of the pie is fine with me. Figuring that Boise, Fresno, and Reno were supposed to be top dogs in our conference this year… Coach Mack, along with his coaches and our boyz, deserve greater recognition for their accomplishments. A win today clinches a share of something we’re not supposed to be sharing in this year.

Let’s go, Warriors! Take care of business up there, then come home and close out 2010 with a bang!!!

  58. Pomai November 27, 2010 7:22 am

Now wouldn’t be something when we win today and next week both reno and bsu lose?

  59. Matt November 27, 2010 7:24 am

If Boise stays home for the Humanitarian Bowl, Nevada probably goes to the Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco (formerly the San Francisco Bowl). San Francisco is much closer to Reno than Albuquerque. The WAC representative in the Fight Hunger Bowl is supposed to play the #6 PAC-10 team, but I don’t think that the PAC-10 will have enough bowl eligible teams.

I think that La Tech has a chance to beat Nevada next week because of a Wolfpack letdown.

But back to today, Warriors need to focus and romp the Aggies today. Make sure the Aggies have no hope when the 4th quarter comes.

  73. Shoko November 27, 2010 8:08 am

    Morning folks!

What a game last night! I’m glad the Pack won and showed Boise State a little dose of reality.

Seems the PAC-10 won’t have enough bowl eligible teams. With the Ducks projected to go to a BCS bowl that leaves only Stanford and Arizona, and quite possible either Cal or the Huskies, which will be decided when they face each other.

Anyway, the director of the Kraft Bowl hasn’t decided if it was going to invite Nevada or Boise State, but since alot of prognosticators predict Boston College to fill the PAC slot, would fans want to see a rematch of the 2007 BC-BSU Humanitarian Bowl matchup, where Boise State loss or a Nevada who’s fanbase doesn’t travel well?

Anyway (X2), good luck to the Warriors today as I’ll be watching (hopefully) undisturbed!

  74. Pomai November 27, 2010 8:19 am

#65 DPK – hoooooo wot you like scare everyone away???? LOL no big deal.

OK on to the important thing for today, Coach don’t let up, keep the pedal to the metal. BLITZ BLITZ BLITZ and BLITZ some more. Pressure ya got keep the pressure on don’t let them back in the game, take the lead and don’t look back just keep pound’en an scoring.

  75. koakane™ November 27, 2010 8:25 am

morning again warrior fans r u ready for some good football

congrats to bball wahines, had to look twice to see if dat was the correct scores. man they wen blow out da oddah team.

wishing vball wahines a decent placement in the NCAA’s bracket being announced this sunday. no matter they going get to play on……go att’m ladies.

agree with pride on his comments about the oddah boise player’s doing their job then the xtra point guy no matter. imho always gotta play the starter’s at least until the first 3 to 5 minutes of the 4th qtr just in case scenarios like bsu vs nu happens.

kden strap up and let get ready to play some warrior fball babe

  76. haawarrior November 27, 2010 8:26 am

As much as I wanted to see BSU have a chance to play for the National Championship I think I’d rather see us with a chance to give our seniors a WAC champion ring (outright or otherwise). Also, here’s hoping Nevada has a major meltdown vs Latech next week. The thought of the BCS smiling cheek to cheedk and wagging their fingers in our face disgust me but at this point its all about our TEAM. Some things are worth more than money.

  77. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 8:34 am

    I can solve that triangle.

Boise State beat us, but lost to Nevada, who lost to Hawaii.

The key is those last few words… 😎

  78. chopsueyboy November 27, 2010 8:35 am

Thanksgiving Day extended to Thanksgiving Weekend.

Thankful for Nevada losing to UH.

Thankful for Boise State losing to Nevada.

Thankful for UH having a chance to win a share of WAC Title.

    GO WARRIIORS!!!

does this affect AD budget if they need to get rings for coaches & players?

  79. diehard fan November 27, 2010 8:40 am

UH should use the no huddle offense sometimes too against the stronger teams. Looks like Boise was a victim of the no huddle offense run by Nevada in the latter stages of the game. Boise’s defense looked kind of tired plus Nevada had the right plays called on offense, including the reverse.

Boise didn’t seem to run the no huddle much against Nevada and Nevada’s defense bent but didn’t break much. Unlike UH’s defense which broke against Boise. It looked cold there in Reno.

Maybe Brotzman was thrown off by the injury he had awhile ago. Coach Petersen should have called for a fake field goal play on one of those FG attempts and gone for a TD, especially on the last attempt. Brotzman had been in so many successful fake kick plays through the years.

  80. Old Diver November 27, 2010 8:41 am

From watching the games yesterday we saw missed FG’s, penalties on special teams, substitution penalties, questional play calling, going for two point conversations at the wrong time, poor tackling, game fatigue etc. Let’s remember every team in the nation makes mistakes including the Warriors. Win or lose the Warriors are our team, I have their backs no matter the outcome. Of course with a championship on the line I’m expecting a romp.

  81. dennis halloran November 27, 2010 8:48 am

emotional roller coaster game last night, probably cost us some dough

Mater Dei won again in 2nd round of cif playoffs

Go warriors, take care off business

  82. chawan_cut November 27, 2010 8:51 am

brew, yeah, the only reason i care is how much boise would suck without moore next year. have we ever seen boise’s backup? nevada will struggle next year rebuilding. so will utah st, as borell is a senior. and enderle at idaho. we’ll have to replace our wr’s and rb’s, but we have a good bunch of guys in reserve.

    should be fun next year.

  83. diehard fan November 27, 2010 8:57 am

Yesterday was the first time in several years that Coach Petersen was outcoached ( by Chris Ault) .

  84. Shoko November 27, 2010 9:03 am

Would be nice for Ohio State to lose todays game, but it doesn’t appear thats going to happen. That little comment by OSU’s president Gee about non-aq teams, specifically TCU and Boise, who only play “little sisters of the poor” teams was classless. No worries tho, karma is a B—-!

True, the Broncos were winded in the second half. Remember, this is the first time since the VT game that they had to play all four quarters. I think the stock price in oxygen went up. 😉

  85. hillary November 27, 2010 9:06 am

it was great to know about this … getting more info on this thing ..will post the updates here .. 🙂 …

  86. hwanstln November 27, 2010 9:14 am

Gonna be sweet today!!!! Remember when the experts picked Coach Mac and the Warriors to end up in 7th place with a 4-9 record? Play hard boys and don’t take anything for granted. Go Warriors – Win Big!

  87. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 9:15 am

    Morning all…

don’t you just love the smell of football in the morning!

    Hee haw!

    WARRIORS IMUA!!

  88. al November 27, 2010 9:18 am

hmmmm…funny pride. should mention that about the hate emails and calls towards the boise st kicker.

i was thinking exactly along that same line of thinking that it shouldn’t have come down to one or two plays.

  89. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 9:20 am

What year is the Boise kicker in?

  90. al November 27, 2010 9:22 am

hwanstln…you still on a cruise? is that why your name is all messed up?

    hahaha.

seriously, thanks for bringing that up. imagine this time last year many were calling for the guy’s contract and now he is being hailed as the coach of the year, contract extensions, and the like.

we go from the pits of the wac to the top and on to the mwc.

what a difference a year makes.

  91. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 9:27 am

(former) #3 team…. should NEVER come down to a play or two…. 👿

C_C – sorry, my earlier comment should have read, “respectfully, ainokea….” 😆

Yeah – Boise has rF as their backup. He’s gotten some PT. They have 3 F’s on their roster so I’m sure they have a plan. Plus – as good as Moore is, he’s 6′-0″ and that’s like XXXXXXXXX against him.

CK for UNR is a different case. He’s gone. He the NFL takes a chance on him at QB, then he’ll be sort of a project. He can play a several positions. MLB is also possible. Again – ainokea as long as we don’t have to worry about his skinny ‘okole burning us on the edges anymore….. 😈 😆 😀

  92. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 9:28 am

    Sr.

  93. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:28 am

Boise kicker was one of the best, until last night. I think he had a leg injury against UH.

It was interesting he wasn’t made available to the Boise media.

That’s one thing about UH. Win or lose, guys step up and talk after games. After the Sugar Bowl, Colt Brennan was in the training room, really groggy, like he had a concussion. But he invited the media in for an interview. Greg Alexander, Bryant Moniz. Win or lose, they answer questions.

Only one who didn’t was Austin Hansen after the USC loss. But then apologized a couple of days later.

  94. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:31 am

I don’t think the Boise kicker needs to be grilled. I mean, it’s sports. Win some, lose some.

But it would have been good to hear his side. Was it a problem getting warmed up because of the chill, the timeout and the long commercial break? Is he still injured? Etc., etc.

  95. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 9:32 am

    Colt => da man! 😀

  96. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:33 am

UH had to abort the haka because NMSU was introducing its seniors, sort of the reverse Senior Walk.

  97. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 9:34 am

…. neva should never have gotten that close! (Does that make sense?) 🙄

  99. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:36 am

There are about 1,000 fans here. Total.

  100. labrat November 27, 2010 9:38 am

The one I will be happy to see graduate is Vai Taua. His power running wore down Boise’s defense. Nevada will not be the same without him. I was impressed how hard he ran the ball. He put it all out there on the field. If UH can find a fullback like that no one will be able to stop our offense. I also think that to be a really good offense in college you need a quarterback who can also run with the ball. The really good teams have them.

Nevadas defense won the game. It was the first time I have seen Kellen Moore get hit so hard. I thought he was untouchable.

Chris Peterson had a different look on his face in the 4th quarter. It was like he new an upset was in the making.

  101. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 9:39 am

    Now that’s sad. 🙁

  102. Steve November 27, 2010 9:39 am

    ST,

There are only 1000 fans in the stadium???

  103. PU November 27, 2010 9:45 am

Check this out from UH sports on twitter. The NMS crowd take just minutes ago.

Back in LA now and will be cheering da boys along with the LoCal crew – Ronnie, Dennis, Glenn, Matt, Mike, Garret, Rainbowcliff, Pauoa and Rich.

  105. Matt November 27, 2010 9:48 am

1000 fans? Tell me he meant 10,000. 1000 fans is pathetic for a basketball game.

  106. Homegrown November 27, 2010 9:50 am

espn gameplan showing uh game in hawaii …

    go warriors

  107. Mari November 27, 2010 9:51 am

    Wow, they’ve got a really spacious parking… 😀

Sad that our haka had to be aborted… Don’t worry, we’ll all look forward to it next week.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  108. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:52 am

OK, looks like it’s up to 2,000. But almost all are on the near side. It will look really empty on TV.

  109. Konaboy November 27, 2010 9:53 am

I’m in a hotel, anybody streaming the game?

  110. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:53 am

One plus: Game is aired (in Las Cruces) on FM.

  111. Homegrown November 27, 2010 9:53 am

1000? looks like 100 pretty sad for new mexico senior day

  112. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:55 am

Bronson Tiwanak is a game captain.

  113. Old Diver November 27, 2010 9:55 am

The fans are on concentrated on the sidelines because the exits are there. 🙂

  114. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:55 am

UH wins toss. Will kick off to start game.

  115. labrat November 27, 2010 9:56 am

Nevada’s defense blanked Boise’s offense in the 3rd quarter and allowed only one td in the 4th. That alone says it all.

  116. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 9:56 am

NMSU announcer said Moniz is not as heralded as Colt Brennan and “Ricky” Chang.

  117. Hank November 27, 2010 9:57 am

Go (get us a championship) Warriors!

  123. Shoko November 27, 2010 10:03 am

Dang, the stands look hella empty. Well, not really surprised tho.

  124. Matt November 27, 2010 10:04 am

    Calm down there Mo.

  125. Matt November 27, 2010 10:05 am

  126. PU November 27, 2010 10:05 am

Not a good way to start .

  127. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 10:06 am

  131. Old Diver November 27, 2010 10:07 am

  134. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 10:09 am

Surprised to see Salas returning punts. Mack announced yesterday that Rodney Bradley would be the returner.

  135. Matt November 27, 2010 10:09 am

Come on Mo. Come on Greg Salas. Come on Alex Green. Come on Pilares. This is for the WAC championship guys.

  136. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 10:09 am

At least not like the announcers who said: Paipai the Sailor Man.

  137. djmitcho November 27, 2010 10:10 am

Brew, I guess that’s the price we gotta pay to watch road games

  138. Matt November 27, 2010 10:12 am

    Heck yeah Greg Salas.

  139. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 10:12 am

  140. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 10:14 am

  141. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 10:14 am

Salas is 22 yards away from school record.

  142. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 10:15 am

I suppose natural grass fields are cheaper than turf especially when you don’t use any water on them…. 🙄 🙂 😀

  152. ninerfan November 27, 2010 10:18 am

    TOUCHDOWN HAWAII

  153. ninerfan November 27, 2010 10:18 am

  154. Matt November 27, 2010 10:19 am

Congrats to Scott Enos. Salas is getting close to the record. How close is AG to a 1000 yard rushing season? Would be great for RB recruiting if we had a 1000 yard back.

  155. 702WarriorFan November 27, 2010 10:19 am

Is anyone watching the game on ESPN3 live streaming?

  208. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 10:48 am

Re ESPN3 blackout- I was in conversations with HawnTel marketing for a few days about that. They sent out a promotional email advertising UH football on ESPN3. When I saw the blackouts on the schedule, I pursued it as false advertising.

Hawn Tel apologized but could not change it.

  209. Matt November 27, 2010 10:48 am

Time for the offense to answer back.

  210. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 10:49 am

What kind of kickoff was that?

  228. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 10:55 am

    Let’s go D-!!! 🙂

  229. Shoko November 27, 2010 10:55 am

NMSU run defense is ranked 102 among 120 at the D1-A level. Let Green have his day. Salas will get his record in one pass.

  230. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 10:55 am

Alex Green has 115 rushing yards on six carries.

  231. Matt November 27, 2010 10:55 am

    Let’s go Defense!!!

  232. Steve November 27, 2010 10:55 am

    Brew,

    AG’s mom is there!!!!

  233. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 10:57 am

  234. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 10:57 am

    Just wondering…. can Alex Dunnachie kick-off? 🙄

  235. Matt November 27, 2010 10:59 am

Our DBs were playing too far off for a 4th and 1.

  236. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 10:59 am

  239. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:00 am

I agree w/ Matt – NMSU coverage is tighter than Warriors’. 🙁

  240. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:01 am

Looks like more in the band than there are fans in the stands!

  241. Hank November 27, 2010 11:01 am

…are our corners giving a lot of cushion?

seems like they’re 10-yards off the ball when the NMSU receivers make the catch….

  242. Hank November 27, 2010 11:02 am

    Matt…didn’t see your post…i think you’re right.

  243. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:02 am

    238 – Oh, R U the “bleeds green” dude then? 🙄 🙂

  244. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:03 am

    Man… let’s go, defense!!!

  245. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:03 am

Brown make a good play on the brown dirt! 😀

  246. Matt November 27, 2010 11:03 am

    FG NMSU.

  247. Steve November 27, 2010 11:04 am

Warriors giving NMSU receivers way to much respect. Need to tighten it up. Also, where is all those blitzes that Coach Mac said he was going to thru against Manley.

  248. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:04 am

Eh… wasn’t suppose to be dis close! 😯

  249. Steve November 27, 2010 11:04 am

    throw*

  250. Matt November 27, 2010 11:04 am

Manley might be playing well, but if they keep having him run the QB draw, he is going to take quite a beating.

Yup. maybe I should go back to the original screen name. just got tired of re-typing my name when I clean out my computer

  252. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 11:06 am

During each timeout, they’re giving away Budweiser Fun Packs. Don’t think they allow drinking in Aggie Memorial Stadium.

  253. Old Diver November 27, 2010 11:06 am

When UH blitzed, New Mexico made short quick completions. Very hard to stop.

  254. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:06 am

BTW – nice, HUGE holes by the OL! 😆

  263. djmitcho November 27, 2010 11:13 am

Could we see a 200 yard rusher for UH today? I hope so!

  264. Old Diver November 27, 2010 11:13 am

Punt, and it’s the Alex Green show again.

  265. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:14 am

Was Manley showing off his arm? He really didn’t have to throw it 40 yds downfield…. 🙄

  266. Matt November 27, 2010 11:14 am

AG had 705 yards rushing before this game. 160+ so far this game in less than a half. 1000 yards is within striking distance.

  267. djmitcho November 27, 2010 11:15 am

When was the last time UH had a 200 yard rusher?

  268. Steve November 27, 2010 11:16 am

1000 yds might be in reach, today!!!

  269. djmitcho November 27, 2010 11:16 am

Alex Green 169 yds and 2 TD’s on 8 carries

  270. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:16 am

Wow – did you see that commercial on ALT? Taco-Bell – four tacos for $1? 😯

  271. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 11:16 am

    Whatever it takes.

Mrs. Green, you’ve got a lovely player!

  272. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:17 am

Wish we’d make an attempt at punt returns.

We give up the 40 on kickoffs; don’t return punts… We should be using these last couple of games to work on and fix our Special Teams. We still got the Hawaii Bowl to be ready for too.

  273. Matt November 27, 2010 11:17 am

Salas is a beast. Nice catch for the record.

  274. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:17 am

  278. Matt November 27, 2010 11:20 am

oh no…my video feed is all jacked up for some reason

  286. PU November 27, 2010 11:23 am

Do we have a kicker who can put it the end zone ?

  287. Matt November 27, 2010 11:24 am

Salas currently at 97 catches for the season. Record is 108 by Bess. That’s within striking distance.

  288. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:24 am

“Wow – Mrs. Green – your son Alex is a PLAYER!!! 🙂

  289. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 11:25 am

    PU…

I don’t think Hawaii is kicking to reach the End zone.. looks like they are deliberately kicking short.. trying to create turnover opportunities. I don’t think they see NMSU as that much of a return threat.

  290. Matt November 27, 2010 11:25 am

NMSU just giving up. Not even trying to score before the end of the half. What kind of message is that to your players?

  291. Old Diver November 27, 2010 11:26 am

Yesterday the Alabama kicker was only kicking it to the five yard line. Difference was they were faster downfield on the coverage.

  292. Old Diver November 27, 2010 11:27 am

    That was a fumble.

  293. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:27 am

I no likee that ST strategy of pooch kicking to avoid a speedy returner. TOUCHBACK is better – especially at altitude! 👿

  294. 99club November 27, 2010 11:28 am

    Wow, listen to the boos!

  295. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:28 am

No honey do’s ’til tomorrow brew! Just got back from watching the Ohio St. game at Buffalo Wild Wings. Tried watching ESPN3 on the laptop but too ‘herky-jerky’. Working great on the desktop. Thought my upgrade to an “n” router and adapter would have fixed it. Oh well.

  304. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:34 am

So far so good! The pic of the parking lot looks like their field. 😆

Sure would be nice to see Green get 1k rushing. He’s on his way.

  305. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 11:35 am

    I like that UHM commercial.

  306. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:35 am

Yikes…. “geek talk”. Someone needs more porter ale. 🙄 🙂 😀

    “enchilada enema”?! Yikes!

  308. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:36 am

    That commercial likes you, Kazz.

  309. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:36 am

1k rushing is good. NFL contract is mo betta! 😆

  310. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 11:37 am

The size of that NMSU home crowd is enough proof that the WAC is not a long term financial safe haven for UH football and UH’s other sports.

  311. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:37 am

DPK – you the only one that caught that jab. 😳

  312. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:38 am

Hopefully one will help Green get the other. He’s got some great all purpose numbers too.

  313. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:38 am

Is that like after eating itchy luau leaves?

  315. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 11:39 am

    DPK,

    And I still loathe Nevada.

  316. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:39 am

Doesn’t the one announcer remind you of Bobby Curran?

  317. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:39 am

Man … those wide angle shots w/ the stands in the background are truly embarrassing….. 🙄

  318. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:40 am

    That’s one trick question…. right? 🙄

  319. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 11:40 am

Someone tell that color commentator to stop yelling everytime he says something.

  320. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:41 am

    kawika –

Ya gotta ask brew-san. He brought it up. I’ve never had either.

  321. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:41 am

    Wait…. where’s the blog police lady…. I don’t want to get slapped again…. 😯

  322. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:42 am

    Kazz-

    See 317. Am I right? 😉

  323. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:42 am

#320 – He has to yell to hear himself above the crowd noise! 😈

  324. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 11:43 am

Wow.. radio is really lagging ..

  325. Matt November 27, 2010 11:43 am

NMSU should put some cardboard cutouts or crash test dummies in the stands. Heck paint some figures wearing their team colors or something. Isn’t there a minimum attendance to remain a FBS team? What an embarrassment. I’ve seen better crowds at a high school soccer game.

  326. kazu November 27, 2010 11:44 am

If Hawaii holds on to win today, and be co-champions,do they get a trophy too??

  327. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:45 am

    A co-trophy at least, no?

  328. Matt November 27, 2010 11:47 am

All of the co-champs get a WAC championship trophy.

  329. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 11:47 am

This game is a blessing in disguise.

Jim Donovan can take a look around, think about Benson’s last words, and see for himself the future of UH football if we stay in the WAC.

  330. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 11:48 am

    DPK,

not really… at least Curran doesnt sound like a tard.

  331. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:51 am

    not all the time…. 🙄

  332. 99club November 27, 2010 11:51 am

Gee, I should have gone to that game. Look at all that legroom!

I’d love to hear the coach say, “We need to get our crowd back into this game.”

  333. Old Diver November 27, 2010 11:52 am

I wonder what the WAVE would look like at MNSU’s stadium?

  334. Steve November 27, 2010 11:52 am

Even the TV picture keeps fading in and out, lately.

  335. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:52 am

I was thinking more of the “big voice”, not the quality of content.

  336. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 11:53 am

Word on the street — OK, UH told me — the team is going to the Golden Corral after the game.

  337. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:54 am

    99club –

I’ll say it for Kazz: It would take free beer and hotdogs to get the NaMaSu crowd back.

  338. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 11:54 am

    DPK,

I see. Curran has a big voice but at least Curran has a good broadcasting voice.

  339. Mari November 27, 2010 11:55 am

    Thanks, kawika49, for the link!!!

  340. Matt November 27, 2010 11:55 am

Alex Green is going off!!! Over 200 yards on the day.

  341. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 11:55 am

    Stephen-

Give Alex Green anything he wants!

  342. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:55 am

  343. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:56 am

Holy smokes! Green is on fire!!!

  344. PU November 27, 2010 11:56 am

If you’re going to play on dirt least you could do is paint it green.

  345. 99club November 27, 2010 11:56 am

Green to Coach Mack: “Take me out! I’m not a miler!”

  346. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:56 am

    Over 200 yards so far… and counting…

  347. Matt November 27, 2010 11:58 am

    TD Salas!!!

  348. 99club November 27, 2010 11:58 am

DPK- Ha! That’s too bad, though. The last couple times I went to NM the fans were terrific.

  349. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:58 am

    All right, Warriors!!!

  350. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 11:59 am

    R. Kekaula said the UH single game rushing record is 270. Let Green get that!!!

  351. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 11:59 am

Record for modern era is 242 rushing yards, by Anthony Edgar and Jamal Farmer.

Green currently is at 239, according to our math.

  352. 99club November 27, 2010 11:59 am

BTW, note the Route 66 Casino ad catching the extra point kicks. That casino is just outside of Albuquerque, home of our future opponent.

  353. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 11:59 am

TD Warriors!!! Did you see that block by AG!?! Awesome pick-up on the blitz…. again! That’s what will get him into the NFL camps! 😆

  354. djmitcho November 27, 2010 12:00 pm

who was the last uh running back to go over 200?

  355. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:00 pm

270 is by a guy named Pete Wilson, in 1950.

Think the Division I record is the one that carries more meat.

  356. Matt November 27, 2010 12:01 pm

    ST,

    NMSU live stats:

    confirms your calculations.

  357. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:02 pm

    Yep, he has 239

  358. 99club November 27, 2010 12:02 pm

Mack must be really ticked right now. That’s exactly what he was talking about going into the halftime.

  359. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:02 pm

    Special team…. 🙄 🙁

  360. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:03 pm

By the way, Donovan has company now — chancellor and her husband.

  361. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 12:03 pm

    Random realization…

Boise State and Fresno State fans have been more positive about Hawaii joining the MWC.

Nevada thinks they are above all else…

  362. Matt November 27, 2010 12:03 pm

Come on defense. Shut them down.

  363. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:03 pm

    That’s not holding….. I suppose…. 🙄

  364. Cheyah! November 27, 2010 12:04 pm

The grass is GREENer on the other side! No need to pass anymore just run it baby! Let Green get 300yds for the game and over 1000yds for the season!

    Keep it going WARRIORS!!!

  365. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 12:04 pm

God Bless. Patrick Patterson- awesome Raiders writer and blogger. Very nice to me when Colt was a Raider. Passed away at 38 from a blood clot in his lung on Thanksgiving.

Thoughts from the Dark Side will not be the same.

  366. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:04 pm

Fun fact: UH brought in Kenny Turner for a visit, but opted not to offer him a scholie. I guess UH had some guy named Green.

    Gooooo, Aaron Brown!

  370. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:05 pm

Brown put Manley on the ground! 😆

  371. Old Diver November 27, 2010 12:06 pm

    Didn’t Turner come with baggage?

  372. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:06 pm

    Why punt?

    Aferr a timeout.

  373. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:06 pm

    That was Chizzy’s slot! 🙂

  374. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:07 pm

    “Aferr”….? 🙄

  375. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 12:07 pm

Hi ST. Is it cold there? Warriors look HOT!

  376. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:08 pm

We think Salas might have been hit in the Bobbitt.

  377. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 12:08 pm

Time for Na Koa to start pricing WAC rings… 😎

  378. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:09 pm

The give again is to Green… and NMSU seemed like they didn’t know he was going to get the ball!

  379. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:09 pm

    Green is at 267.

  380. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:10 pm

  383. 99club November 27, 2010 12:10 pm

Review this! He was down on the 1, I thought.

  384. Matt November 27, 2010 12:11 pm

Pilares needs some stick em. What the heck?

  385. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 12:11 pm

    Unacceptable.

Second year in a row NMSU pulls a pick 6 on UH.

  386. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:11 pm

Well, it was a nice back set.

  387. djmitcho November 27, 2010 12:12 pm

Matt, wasn’t Pilares, it was Pollard

  388. Slugger November 27, 2010 12:12 pm

    Dang interceptions!

  389. Matt November 27, 2010 12:12 pm

Not a pick 6. Down at the 1.

  390. Matt November 27, 2010 12:12 pm

Sorry Pollard needs stick em. The ESPN3 guys said Pilares.

  391. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:13 pm

Davon House just has a football name.

  392. Matt November 27, 2010 12:14 pm

  393. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:14 pm

    It’s betta than “Bobbitt”…. 🙄 🙂 😯

  394. Matt November 27, 2010 12:15 pm

We still don’t have a return TD this year. Now would be a nice time for one.

  395. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:15 pm

That’s ok, offense… just reset and give it to Green again. We should be used to getting ripped off by WAC refs.

  396. SojuNTaegu November 27, 2010 12:15 pm

Anyone have a link to this game? GO WARRIORS!!!!!!

    Boy, that’s one empty stadium!

  400. Matt November 27, 2010 12:18 pm

Come on Salas. 9 catches to Bess’ season record.

  401. djmitcho November 27, 2010 12:18 pm

According to Jason Kaneshiro on twitter, last UH player to rush for over 200 was Michael Carter for 214 against Wyoming in 1991

  402. Matt November 27, 2010 12:18 pm

Make that 8 catches left. Salas is a beast.

  403. Old Diver November 27, 2010 12:18 pm

    All American run after catch.

  404. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:18 pm

I love how Salas runs after catches!

  405. SojuNTaegu November 27, 2010 12:19 pm

    Co-WAC champs! Well done Boys!!!!!!!!!!

  406. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:20 pm

Travis Sims never had a 200 yard game?

  407. Matt November 27, 2010 12:20 pm

Not only do I love Salas’ run after catch, but I love the way he blocks too.

  408. Matt November 27, 2010 12:21 pm

TD Pollard!!! Way to answer back offense.

  409. kawika49 November 27, 2010 12:21 pm

That was too easy… Old Diver…. How was your Thanksgiving? You have to make a wish on the New Years, give up on Obama… LOL!!!!

  414. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:22 pm

TD… Man, I wanna see Green get 300 yards!!!

  415. Matt November 27, 2010 12:23 pm

Going to have to follow the blog for the rest of the game. Gotta make a trip to the airport.

  416. Slugger November 27, 2010 12:23 pm

I wonder if the altitude is affecting Scotty on KOs.

  423. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:27 pm

You guys see the stat box they just put up on tv? Tight conference race for WAC Champs…

    Boise has Utah State

    Reno has LaTech

Hawaii has… UNLV? Wait, they aren’t in our conference. We’re done with conference play after this game! We win, and we’re co-Champs. Period.

I’d love to see LaTech take it to Reno!

  424. SojuNTaegu November 27, 2010 12:27 pm

  427. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 12:28 pm

Manley is showing good poise in this game. He’s playing a decent game given the talent surrounding him.

  428. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:28 pm

    Good game by 94-Umu! 🙂

  429. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:28 pm

    #425 – My one comment…. when I heard “12 stiches”…. I said to myself… Wow – that’s a lot of lip! 😆

  432. SojuNTaegu November 27, 2010 12:31 pm

No doubt, I can see that all 300 students came out to root for the Aggies…..

  433. 99club November 27, 2010 12:31 pm

    Green for the record!

  434. d1島 November 27, 2010 12:32 pm

    djmitcho/LizK,

Thanks. The Wildcats had a tough row to hoe today.

Fell behind early to a good team.

Tied it up twice and took it to two OT’s but ended up fumbling away the game on the last possession.

The good thing was that #2 didn’t make the 52-man roster so I ended up surprising Mrs. d1島 for Thanksgiving by bringing him home so we all were watching it together.

  435. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:32 pm

    Green goes for tree-hundred?!! 😯 🙄 😆

  436. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 12:33 pm

    Cowbell. Def. Too much cowbell.

  437. 99club November 27, 2010 12:34 pm

  440. Old Diver November 27, 2010 12:34 pm

    Green is rolling.

  441. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:34 pm

Green is going for 300, I think.

  442. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 12:34 pm

D1- niiice. Thanksgiving with the whole family.

    Green- get that 300!

  443. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 12:34 pm

heh heh… looks like they want Green to get to 300… what a statement that would be!

Another WAC player of the week, for sure.

  444. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:34 pm

I have to add this up, but I think he’s nearing 1,000 yards.

  445. djmitcho November 27, 2010 12:35 pm

Awesome!!! Alex Green new single game rushing record for UH….let him go for 300!!!

CONGRATS TO SALAS AND GREEN ON RECORD BREAKING DAYS!!!

  448. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:36 pm

He needed 295 to reach 1k. I think he has about 282.

  449. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:36 pm

Five more yards, I think, for 1,000.

  450. d1島 November 27, 2010 12:36 pm

I have to add this up, but I think he’s nearing 1,000 yards.

Shoulda brought along a statistician! Anyone know one? 😉

  453. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:37 pm

    He’s at 290, I think.

  454. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:37 pm

    Five more!!! Leave him in!!!

  455. Old Diver November 27, 2010 12:37 pm

Looks like he’s 5 yards short.

  456. Slugger November 27, 2010 12:37 pm

    D1,

What a nice Thanksgiving for the family.

  457. BG808 November 27, 2010 12:37 pm

Give Green the 300 yds. He deserves it.

  458. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 12:38 pm

And still two more games to go! AT HOME! Whoo hoo!

  459. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:38 pm

    OK, he is at 290.

  460. Old Diver November 27, 2010 12:38 pm

If he makes it, this is history in the making.

  461. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:38 pm

C’mon offense! Don’t break one for a TD yet! Give it to Gren first!!!

  462. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:39 pm

    Green*

So excited, I’m typing too fast for my fingers!

  463. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 12:39 pm

Forget the records… why are the starters still playing and risking injury with each snap?????

  464. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:39 pm

    First punt for UH.

Is that it for the first team?

  465. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:40 pm

    Man…

  466. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:40 pm

    Eh… got to punt? 🙄

  467. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:41 pm

Kazz, I think they were just finishing up this last series. Probably won’t see them when they get the ball back next, no matter what.

  468. djmitcho November 27, 2010 12:41 pm

I would like to see Green break the 300 yd mark, but rather have healthy starters for UNLV next week!

  469. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 12:41 pm

For three teams to share the conference title with a single conference loss, the rest of the conference has to lose a lot of games.

  470. Hawaiianbod November 27, 2010 12:41 pm

d1 – nice surprise for the mrs! (u da man!!). No. 2 son must be enjoying the much warmer weather, not to mention the grindz.

  471. Old Diver November 27, 2010 12:43 pm

Mrs. Green must have no voice left.

  472. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:43 pm

Bigger surprise… to see Boise and Reno fall next week, and we own da WAC… no sharing!!!

  473. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:44 pm

I don’t know about Fresno and Reno next year, but I think LaTech might be a tough team.

  474. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 12:45 pm

Eh…. let’s give BEEG PROPS to the OL!!! 😀

  475. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:48 pm

  482. Steve November 27, 2010 12:51 pm

  483. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 12:51 pm

    Gratz!!!

  488. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 12:53 pm

  489. Old Diver November 27, 2010 12:53 pm

  496. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 12:54 pm

WHY THE EFF ARE THE STARTERS STILL PLAYING????

  497. esteban November 27, 2010 12:54 pm

OK, starters. Let’s call it a day.

  498. 99club November 27, 2010 12:54 pm

    400 do-able?

  499. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:54 pm

    327, maybe?

  500. Stephen Tsai November 27, 2010 12:55 pm

OK, he’s got 327 rushing yards.

First UH 1,000 rusher since Travis Sims in 1992.

School record for most rushing yards in a game.

  501. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:55 pm

No ways.. save our guys for UNLV! No need unnecessary injuries.

  502. Konaboy November 27, 2010 12:55 pm

  512. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 12:59 pm

Showboating, and getting scolded my Coach Mack… but nice TD anyways.

  513. Slugger November 27, 2010 1:00 pm

    Thank you, Coach Mack.

  514. Ciara Updates November 27, 2010 1:00 pm

I wonder what Ciara has been up to the past half year. It’s already been a long while since she dropped her cute track Ride, with that exciting video. Ludacris seems to get his releases on time, so where has Ciara been? I can’t wait for Ciara’s next album, Basic Instinct, to get released. It is really killing me!

  515. hwanstln November 27, 2010 1:00 pm

I lost my feed…..what did Brown do when he scored the TD?

  516. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:01 pm

  518. Old Diver November 27, 2010 1:01 pm

    He leaped into the endzone.

  519. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:01 pm

Brown dove in from about the 4 yard line, after looking at and running by a ref. He knew he was going to get flagged for it.

  520. Kazz via DROID.X November 27, 2010 1:02 pm

    Stupid penalty by Brown… AUWE!!!

I like what Coach Mack just did though. Gotta bust out da slippah!!!

We’re better than that. No need for Nevada-ish attitudes.

Good job Brown! Better job by Coach Mack!

    You da man Coach Mack!

    Go Warriors!!!

  522. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 1:02 pm

    hwanstln…

With no defenders around him… he went airborne into the endzone.. showboating..

The game is well in hand.. there was no call for that.. that really is rubbing salt into an open wound.

  523. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:03 pm

Well, NMSU took a deflected pass to the house… and now we did too.

  524. BG808 November 27, 2010 1:04 pm

    Congrats to Alex Green!

  525. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:05 pm

We seriously give up some ugly field position on kickoffs!

  526. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 1:06 pm

#524 – difference was Warrior’s one was a pick-six. NMSU was down on the one! 😈

  527. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:06 pm

And Enos just broke Elam’s record! What a day!!!

  528. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:07 pm

Yeah, but the replay officials gave it to them, so it was a pick six too.

  529. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 1:09 pm

    And (slight rewording….), #526 – “seriously…. (this is one) ugly field….” 🙄 😀 😆

  530. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:10 pm

Boy, we’re making some stupid penalties at the end of this game.

  531. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:11 pm

Ugly spot on that last pass play. Ref gave them an extra couple of yards.

  534. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 1:13 pm

Got to give NMSU a hand for a hard fought 24 points. Next season they will have a pretty good team.

  535. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 1:14 pm

We had a DirectTV feed of ESPN3 so missed ST onTV.

  559. al November 27, 2010 1:31 pm

that oline did a helluva job today picking up the blitz and walling off to allow green to run free.

  560. al November 27, 2010 1:32 pm

that dline played stout all day. stopping the run and for banging the qb all day long.

  561. LizKauai -iPad November 27, 2010 1:34 pm

You mean this video of ST?

  562. al November 27, 2010 1:35 pm

alex green had another standout game. credit his dline and the staff for designing schemes that allow him to display his athleticism.

however, his swan dive into the end zone was truly not neccessary. it was good that the head coach admonished him immediately and it was good that brown seemingly took it well.

  563. al November 27, 2010 1:36 pm

    yup lizk…dat’s da one.

  565. gigi-hawaii November 27, 2010 1:39 pm

So, d1 won the contest? Congrats, d1.

David kept beating himself up for being over, but after the game, he wished he had made a higher prediction. lol

Actually, we turned off the TV before the game ended and saw the final score online.

  566. al November 27, 2010 1:40 pm

i think that mac deserves wac coach of the year.

i think this year he has learned not to micro manage.

  567. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 1:41 pm

    Pre-season cellar to post-season stellar!

  568. gigi-hawaii November 27, 2010 1:42 pm

Mac sure gave A. Brown a talk, after the touchdown and flag. Overly exuberant, eh?

  569. gigi-hawaii November 27, 2010 1:43 pm

    nice, MIH!!!

  570. al November 27, 2010 1:44 pm

there must be some kind of incentive money for mac; winning the wac, ten or more wins, coach of the year, hawaii bowl appearance, etc.

if i were he i’d be huddling with mr. kobayashi to seek an extension of contract. although, it may be one year premature per terms of bis current contract.

looking ahead, i see no reason why we won’t win 12 games next year and another wac title.

  571. Michigan Warrior November 27, 2010 1:44 pm

Coach Mack said when they get their rings, “Co” is too many letters, so it will just say “WAC Champions”!! Sweet!!!

  587. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 2:04 pm

    al,

If UH waits another year for Mack’s extension.. there is a very good chance that Mac will have an even stronger footing with an even better record come talk time. We can all see how good the replacements are already and pretty much imagine how good they will be as starters after another year of off-season training. Defense will be solid. Oline replacements are pretty good and will be better. Receivers just need repetition. RB? No one knows what to expect.. but that might be a Warrior advantage too.

  588. al November 27, 2010 2:05 pm

  592. gigi-hawaii November 27, 2010 2:13 pm

also, the oven bag really cuts the cooking time!!!

I think for a 21.66 lb turkey, I would have had to roast it for more than 6 hrs, right?

oven bag — maybe 2-1/2 hrs. At most 3 hrs.

  596. al November 27, 2010 2:18 pm

mih…in two years the going rate for a mwc head coach should be around a million. if i were mac i’d seek a lucrative extension so i can recoup the 7% i gave up “voluntarily”.

next year’s team has a solid foundation to achieve success.

    moniz is back.

we’ll have running backs; sterling “silver” jackson, malosi “da bull” te’o, and john “sonny” lister the “blister”.

    oline will be fine.

    wr’s will be fine.

sb’s will need to be developed and they will. miah’s poised to remind us of pilares.

special teams; dunnachie, ingraham, austin, and enter tyler hadden who will kick it in to the endzone.

defense loses a lot of the back 4, but, little richard will lead them.

    dline will be even better.

lb’ers return that will make plays.

Mack has a lot going for him…

Not only has he taken the Warriors to two bowl games and bettered June Jone’s first three-year record, he’s been building a program of mentors and coaches. We have depth in players and coaching staff.

With all the conference re-alignment, recruiting has been very quiet for Hawaii and, I think, all WAC teams. So I can’t say much about this, this season, but the greyshirts and depth we already have indicate to me that we are pretty solid for the next two years at least and should be able to ride this out.

But… BleedGreen808 from the SportsHawaii forum points out that Mack’s three goals were to:

    1. Win the WAC

    2. Get to a bowl game

    3. 100% graduation rate

and that it looks like he’s going to achieve all three this season.

dpk…there will be a bunch of recruits on the sidelines for the last home game of this season. you should make it a point to support the home team and come see for yourself.

the saddest thing about this year is that in spite of the success we have had on the gridiron there has been so few in attendance.

i’ll bet if we can just get all of the bloggers and lurkers here who don’t come to games to bring just one person this weekend we could have two thousand more in attendance.

  617. Hawaiianbod November 27, 2010 2:53 pm

    i agree w/Brew in 587

UH’d first priority should be to compensate Rolo and Aranda. These two coordinators are young, bright and will only improve their craft. UH needs to change their policy re offering only one-year contracts to their assistants.

As for Coach Mack, Ralph will agree with me, one winning season does not warrant a contract extension. Put together winning seasons then we can talk.

Let’s go Hawaii….come out next Saturday and support the Warriors on Senior Night! There are alot of terrific seniors playing their last game of the regular season and we need to show them our love and support! It has been one heck of a season! GO WARRIORS!!!!

  620. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 2:59 pm

    Hawaiianbod..

Problem is, with just two years remaining on his contract and an iffy WAC/MWC situation, that puts Mack and the Warriors in a very difficult position when it comes to recruiting.

Right now, I bet the competition is using the crumbling WAC and Mack’s earlier transgressions and the mere 2-years remaining on his contract as reasons not to go play at Hawaii. Adding even one year would be helpful.. two would give the young recruit more confidence in Hawaii’s commitment to D1 football and in the HC being there through his career.

  621. RainbowCliff November 27, 2010 2:59 pm

With our football program on the upswing and the roster looking solid through the next season or two.. do you want to take a chance of having a poor recruiting year? I don’t. If we can keep our winning ways going, I’d say.. do it now..don’t wait till we have to dish out even more.

Next season, we should do as well or better. Probably better. Negotiating Mack contract after a better season and with the economy on a rebound may NOT be in UH’s favor.

What I used to teach all my kids when I used to teach…

A baby learns to eat after missingi it’s mouth with the spoon many many times. But the baby autocorrects.. learns to balance after falling.. learns to walk, even.

You throw darts for the first time, you will miss more often than not. Keep throwing and you hit your intended target more and more… Statistically, if you missed more, shouldn’t you get worse? But the human mind and body compensates…adjusts and improves.

You can also learn to flip a coin so that it lands on the same side more often than not. Which goes against the odds.

  627. Ralph November 27, 2010 3:12 pm

    #619 Raider fans know best!

Just imagine if we gave Herman an extension because we were headed to the Sugar Bowl in 2007, how much more it would have cost UH to buy his contract out after the bowl game.

one good winning season doesn’t equate to the success attained by other successful programs like Boise and Texas, they do it often. Texas didn’t do well this season but they strung together a number of 10 game wins. UH with 9 wins, two more chances to reach 10 wins which is a good benchmark for success.

  628. Ralph November 27, 2010 3:13 pm

d1 we got greyshirt Muir unless he changes his mind again and heads to SMU.

Try flipping a coin with the same side up when you flip it and the same amount of energy… catch it at the same point in it’s trajectory each time (about the height you flipped it at) and you should end up with the same side up more often than not. With practice you should be able to do this 80% or more of the time.

  630. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 3:15 pm

    Ralph.

But a first contract HC needs more than two remaining years to effectively recruit. We can wait a year, but I bet we do better next season and be in a worse negotiating position.

  631. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 3:16 pm

    Ralph…

Didn’t they give Herman an extension a five year extension after working three years because he successfully fudged the balanced budget?

  632. d1島 November 27, 2010 3:19 pm

    ill-gotten gains

  633. Hawaiianbod November 27, 2010 3:21 pm

MIH – i see your point and it is a valid point. Would you have any objections if UH offered a two-year contract extension w/no salary increase and; a reasonable buyout clause? Also, insert language whereas if Coach Mack is willing to take a paycut then those funds would be used to ether increase the salaries of his coordinators or increase their recruiting budget.

Times are tough! The Unversity nor the State has any money. Everyone needs to sacrifice for the good of the State.

  634. Ralph November 27, 2010 3:24 pm

yes we gave Herman an extension, but UH traditional rolled over the contracts every year if the individual had been successful year in and year out, so with a creative accounting system and JJ’s success in 2007 he would have been in line to receive a roll over.

Trap, Pinson and Nash weren’t given automatic roll overs recently, they were given mandated goals by JD. Trap got an extension last year, Pinson retired at the end of this soccer season and Nash was fired.

More time to recruit? We have a few grey shirts for 2011, wouldn’t you think if a recruit committed the word would have been on the street by now. Family and friends surely would have said something, especially in an age of social networking.

  635. al November 27, 2010 3:24 pm

for one, there is no “if” in our trek to the mwc.

two, typically with a five year contract an offer to extend comes at the end of the fourth year. in rare occasions will an extension be offered at the third year. especially since mack did have a sub .500 second year.

  636. Ralph November 27, 2010 3:28 pm

MIH Al’s birdie been quiet lately, he must have thought he was a turkey, laying low until everyone’s tired of eating a bird.

  637. al November 27, 2010 3:28 pm

we have way less than 25 fresh scholies available for 2011.

we have a larger number of greyshirts to make whole.

we have a couple of transfers to take care.

with that in mind we have to be sure with whom we offer.

we have the inside track to all the good local players….why broadcast that we are after some sleeper that our mainland competition know nothing about.

these are a few of the reasons that we are not making any wholesale announcements.

  638. al November 27, 2010 3:31 pm

this season has certainly flown by really fast.

‘even the lil and big birdie agrees.

  639. Ralph November 27, 2010 3:32 pm

JJ offered to take a pay cut if the money would be redistributed to his assistants. I think in 2007 Dods got boosters to chip in $2K each and gave it to JJ, he in turn gave it to his assistants.

  640. 99club November 27, 2010 3:32 pm

Stanford rolling over Oregon State right now. I’d like to see them in the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin.

Next year’s schedule is looking more and more interesting. Don’t know if I missed the addition of a 13th opponent.

    Colorado (new coach)

    @Washington (no Jake Locker)

    @UNLV

    UC Davis

    Tulane

    @Nevada (two stars gone)

    @San Jose State

    @Idaho

    @Louisiana Tech

    Fresno State

    New Mexico State

    Utah State

  641. Ralph November 27, 2010 3:41 pm

Al the fb player must be a deep sleeper, way off of the radar because we don’t have a large area to cover nor do we have a lot of schools on Oahu and the neighbor islands.

Every major college have their loyal fans and alumnae, I’m sure any notable fb player would have been talked about by his coach to anyone who would listen and the word would have spread to the upper 48, I’m not counting Alaska as a football hotbed for recruits. Sorry Heun!

We think UDUB etc poached on a recruit late in the process but I think it is more in line with the school lost out on another recruit late in the recruiting war and they had to find a replacement that was available or someone they thought they could redirect to their school.

  642. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 3:42 pm

Ralph.. a lot of offers have been put out… but I think these players are on the fence wondering what the future is for Hawaii.. not the team.. but the program. UH needs to show a boldface commitment to the program regardless of WAC or MWC affiliation.

  643. d1島 November 27, 2010 3:50 pm

    Congratulations Warriors!

  644. kev-1 November 27, 2010 3:51 pm

I don’t understand all the talk about Mack for Coach of the Year, or contract extensions. One solid season and people want to make it rain on him? I don’t get it. And how does he get Coach of the Year when Boise only has one loss and just missed the BCS and, as much as I don’t like him, the job Ault did at Nevada this year?

I think part of the problem with Hawaii sports is that people have a tendency to overreact. Rewarding Mack with more money would be an overreaction. Someone mentioned it earlier, and I would agree to restructure his contract to a smaller base salary with more incentive money. Pay cut, not pay raise.

  645. kev-1 November 27, 2010 3:53 pm

I should mention that I do think he has done a good job with the team, just not pay raise good. After all, he still has two years left on his contract.

  646. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 27, 2010 4:02 pm

One winning season doesn’t warrants an extension especially at $1M/year….Mack’s done a great job this year by letting his assistants do their job. But just as we shouldn’t can a coach after a couple bad seasons, we shouldn’t be all nutz when a coach has one or 2 winning seasons either.

I would be all for uping the compensation for the assistants though.

  647. RainbowCliff November 27, 2010 4:08 pm

kev-1; AGREE with all your valid points but Mac may go into JD office

and DEMAND for a pay raise and MORE years !

    IF so then what ?

  648. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 27, 2010 4:10 pm

    #646,

Fans are fans…its about the love of a team and those around it. Nothing wrong there.

I will say though that Ault has done an amazing job this year (hard for me to say this but its true) and Mark Dantonio from Michigan St. has a lot to be proud of and Brett Bielema from Wisconsin. Chip Kelly has to be near the top too especially if they win out. I would easily put these coaches at the top of the list.

  649. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 27, 2010 4:14 pm

    RainbowCliff,

The convo could go something like this.

GM: Hey I DEMAND a raise and 4 more years.

    JD: No.

Plus I really don’t think Mack would be looking for that right now. Don’t see him as “that kind of guy.” I think he knows he had a deal of a lifetime here as a head coach with $1M+…

  650. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 4:14 pm

I know that there are reasons why UH isn’t talking about recruits, and they are good reasons. It will be interesting to see how things shake out when do learn who the recuits are. If we have to wait til NLI day, so be it.

  651. al November 27, 2010 4:14 pm

ralphie…the time to press for verbal commitments is now.

we need to pounce on the impetus that has come our way recently, what with the mwc looming as our new house, wac championship, hawaii bowl, 10+ win season, etc.

  652. kev-1 November 27, 2010 4:15 pm

I don’t see Mack as the kind of man that would demand more money. If he were like that I would be surprised. But, IF he did, I would have to disagree with his demands. It’s not like UH went undefeated or anything. He has no grounds to have the balls to walk anywhere and even demand a free cup of coffee, let alone a new contract. Heck, if he demanded more money, I would say “laterz,” give the job to Mouse for two years to get Rolo more time to develop, then hand it over to him.

  653. chopsueyboy November 27, 2010 4:15 pm

Doesn’t Coach Mack have incentive bonuses for various goals accomplished?

I wish I get a pay raise for doing what’s expected of me.

  654. Old Diver November 27, 2010 4:16 pm

I really don’t know much about the politics of being Coach of the Year, buts let’s make no mistake about this year. This is not a one time wonder year, this was three years in the making of a five year plan. This year didn’t just happen, just like Boise’s dominance of the WAC didn’t just happen. I believe this is the point MIH is making. The building blocks are now in place, time to build upwards.

  655. βρεω808 November 27, 2010 4:18 pm

    …extra waffle dog. 😆

  656. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 4:19 pm

    al –

#653 Exactly. It will be interesting to see how those factors shape our recruiting efforts.

  657. Old Diver November 27, 2010 4:20 pm

    #653

Al, I agree, which is why the MWC announcement was made early. It’s much easier to have someone commit opposed to trying to change someone’s mind who has already committed.

  658. Da Punchbowl Kid November 27, 2010 4:22 pm

It’s also important that we can say to recruits that we have an administration which is behind the program as well. None of such during the “Fumbler” era.

  659. Shoko November 27, 2010 4:33 pm

Whoah! Green had 327 yards? Thats got to be a record.

  660. RainbowCliff November 27, 2010 4:39 pm

    iwonderwhytheyhateme: In which I REALLY don’t !

Your right one million dollars for this guy is a GREAT deal but like all coaches

they want security and years guaranteed. Mac has TWO years left in which

an injury to a KEY player or players may jeopardize a SHOULD win to an upset lost.

Plus, how does he recruit a SOLID player who’s parents and prize recruit knows

he has TWO years on his contract and he is a TRUE freshmen ?

  661. Matt November 27, 2010 4:39 pm

Congrats Alex Green. Sets the single game UH rushing record and has a 1000 yard rushing season with two games to go! Could he possibly be UH’s first 1500 yard rusher?

Salas owns the UH career receiving yards record with 4037 yards after this game. He has 101 receptions for the season and is now 7 catches away from tying Bess’ receptions in a season record. His 1581 yards this season is also within reach of Lelie’s yards in a season record (1713 yards). His 267 career receptions is still pretty far off of Bess’ 293 reception record, but never say never. Bowl games count for records so he still has two games to go.

  662. Shoko November 27, 2010 4:40 pm

    Most Yards Rushing Per Game:

    406 – LaDainian Tomlinson, TCU vs. UTEP (FBS) Nov. 20, 1999 (43 rushes)[1]

    437 – Maurice Hicks, N.C. A&T vs. Morgan St. (FCS) Oct. 6, 2001 (34 rushes)[2]

418 – Jarom Freeman, Southern Conn. St. vs. Bryant (Div II) Nov. 2, 2007 (34 rushes)[3]

    441 – Dante Brown, Marietta vs. Baldwin-Wallace (Div III) Oct. 5, 1996[4]

Not quite, but still impressive. Good job, Alex!

  665. Shoko November 27, 2010 4:47 pm

Highest Average Gain Per Rush Per Game:

    21.4 – Tony Jeffery, TCU vs. Tulane, (FBS) Sept. 13, 1986 (16 for 343)[1]

    19.1 – Gene Brown, Citadel vs. VMI (FCS) Nov. 12, 1988 (15 for 286) [2]

    19.4 – Oliver Jordan, Emory & Henry vs. Greensboro (Div III) Oct. 3, 1998 (16 for 310) [4]

    Alex averaged 17.2 Yards.

  666. RainbowCliff November 27, 2010 4:47 pm

kev-1: LOVE your points as you hit it right on the head !

I never met Coach Mac BUT know the feelings of many bloggers here when

he WINS and DEFINETLY when he loses !

Last season SIMPLY dissapointing with this year EXHILARATING !

Has he GROWN as a Coach and can he keep his coaches with Rolo

and Aranda staying put or wanting a pay raise themselves ?

  667. Pomai November 27, 2010 4:48 pm

Give him a one year extension no raise in pay, give each ass’t a raise.

  668. Pomai November 27, 2010 4:50 pm

I wish we had Green for one more year.

    on you !

We look forward to seeing you again “SECRET AGENT MAN” !

  670. RainbowCliff November 27, 2010 5:05 pm

Pomai: where do you get the kala for raises to your assistants when your

Head Coach is making 1 million dollars plus with his own talk show and endorsements ?

JD can do this with Arnold and Shoji having SOLID seasons with Coach Diana on the RISE ?

  671. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 5:12 pm

    RainbowCliff:

Student fees kick in next semester. They will help alleviate the repayment installment towards the debt that the Athletic Department owes upper campus. That means that JD just needs to worry about balancing the budget against current revenue. Right now, Mack might consider less pay for himself if he can get raises for his staff and an extension. I think it certainly is worth discussing for years 2013-14. Another winning season like this one, and he might not consider any pay cut and demand more for himself.. his staff, and where do we go from there?

  672. Shoko November 27, 2010 5:16 pm

After a searching on the internet, Alex has the record for the 2010 season with the most rushing yards in a game.

  673. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 5:18 pm

Got to look at the whole package. Not just the Win/Loss.

Focusing on win/loss only will get you a head coach like Colorado’s.

Got to look at the other facets of the program. Does the coach and his staff inspire his players to do better each year? Does he foster interest in the program among Hawaii’s youths through programs geared to youths? Is he nurturing the kind of relationships necessary to build bridges to the local talent in our high schools? Does he have clinics or public sessions for the fans to learn more about the program, the sport, coaching staff and players? Are his players succeeding as students first and athletes second. Are the more successful ones getting their shot at the next level? Are the other players getting their degrees and finding meaningful employment. Are his players the kind of players that make the community proud and adopt as one of their own? Has he embraced the local community as his own? What is the team morale when they are winning? What is it like when they are not?

So many other facets to coaching. Tangibles and intangibles need to be assessed.

  676. RainbowCliff November 27, 2010 5:27 pm

madeinhawaii: Your summation is very clear and accurate. Student fees did not go well with students themselves BUT it is a done deal. This dept to upper campus can it ever get paid off as seems to me the students are paying it ?

Revenue with NO sell out crowds at Aloha Stadium as pay per view with any percentage going to the athletic department ?

No parking revenue or consessions with paying Aloha Stadium to play in an old football

stadium. Are Hawaii coaches understanding of the economy and will not look form them selves BUT sacrifice for the longevity of the football program ?

Are there answers to theses LEGITIMATE concerns and questions ?

JD: Mack you and I both know that UH jumped the gun in offering you that much money to begin with, you and I both know that you would have taken the job for 300,000 to 500,000. So lets cut to the meat, I’ll give you a year extension and a cut in pay of 200,000.00 which will be used to give all the assistants a raise. Have a season like you had this year and I’ll give you another three years with no raise.

    Mack: OK

#606… MIH… One thing I like about Coach Mack when he first came in… he wanted to build the program from the ground up. He has been steady in his attempt to recruit from high schools, more than using JC players like Coach Jones did. This way, we’ve got more and more kids in the system longer, and their familiarity will pay off down the road when they are called upon.

As far as Kev-1 and his comment about Coach Mack and WAC Coach of the Year…

I look at it this way: Boise is supposed to win the conference. Anything less would be a failure. Fresno and Reno were supposed to fight over 2nd and 3rd place in the conference. Again, anything less is a failure. Boise and Reno performed nearly to expectations.

Hawaii, on the other hand, was supposed to finish 7th or worse, depending on which preseason rankings you read. For our players and coaches to finish the season as Co-Champions is a major accomplishment. (In the off-chance that Utah State and LaTech both pull upsets next week, Hawaii would be sole Conference Champs.) Yes, this happened only one year, but… this WAC Coach of the Year award is for THIS YEAR ONLY. This is not an award given for performance and accomplishments over 5 or 10 years. It’s an award for what our coach did this year alone. And in this year, comparatively speaking, our coach exceeded all expectations and outpeformed his conference peers, and landed on top. For this, he and his staff should be recognized. “One solid season” is what this award is about.

  698. bighilofan2 November 27, 2010 7:58 pm

As far as bonus incentives for Coach Mac this season, based on this years performance, Coach Mac will make 20K for making it to a non-BCS bowl and will receive an additional bonus of 10K if he wins. He will also receive a 20K bonus for winning the WAC championship, however it doesn’t specify whether co-champs fall into that category. A bonus of 15K will be given if season tickets sold reaches 32.5K and another 15K if it reaches 40K. Of course, Coach Mac gets additional income what can be considered appearances from the media.

IF anyone is interested of the specifics of Coach Mac’s contract, here is the link:

for me, the impact performance of the week was by the Oklahoma State db who was clearly out of bounds and intercepted the ball and tossed the ball and tossed the ball inbounds to his teammate, all without touching the ground. that visual was just awesome. too bad their defense neva shine like dat one moment of brilliance. i neva seen one like dat befo, neva eva.

    Re: WBB players

Arbuckle & Jackson both need to learn how to:

    (1) STOP taking that extra dribble.

    (2) STOP forcing their shots.

    (3) STOP shooting ‘bullets’ at the glass!

    (4) Learn to finesse their shots, develop a soft touch.

  715. Matt November 27, 2010 8:37 pm

    bighilofan2,

That OK State play was #1 on plays of the day. While it was absolutely amazing, it was just one play in the whole game. Great highlight, but minimal IMPACT on the game considering that they lost. Alex’s 327 yards were over the whole game and had a direct impact on the result of the game.

  716. longboarder November 27, 2010 8:44 pm

    Unnecessary Roughness?

Unsportsmanlike Conduct is probably more appropriate.

  721. diehard fan November 27, 2010 8:59 pm

Coach Ault should be coach of the year. Mac maybe co-coach of the year.

The radio announcers had been saying a few weeks ago that Boise is really good this year so that’s why UH lost so badly to Boise. And they said Boise should maybe be in the BCS championship game. Mac said it wasn’t the x’s and o’s in that game, but that his players didn’t execute, etc. Boise set a record in offense against UH and its defense held UH to its lowest yardage since 1998 or so. I feel that is was the coaching that

allowed Boise to dominate UH and also the game was at Boise.

Coach Ault, his staff and his players proved that Boise was not invincible this year, due to his and staff’s coaching on offense and defense and his players executing the plans. It did help that the game was in Nevada and Brotzman was not kicking well.

  724. A-House November 27, 2010 9:09 pm

Back from the land of “mighty” casinos built on the backs of the millions who trek each year hopin’ to “hit da big one” only to return with a less weigth on the “back side” and many, many dollars short! Ah, but some day, it will happen to me where mega bucks will be just mega bucks.

Earlier this year, I posted that a 5 year football coach’s recruiting program will see the big payoff in the 4th year because a player recruited in the first year will be a Junior or red-shirt Sophomore. Most, said that if the 3rd year is a bust, then a new coach is needed. This year, Coach Mack’s 5-year plan has seen some ripened fruits. But, look closely at what next year blossoms bring and the “big pay-off 4th year” will come to pass.

Based on the commitment by “upper campus” in making the transition to the MWC, I can see where JD can “roll-over” Coach Mack’s contract for 2 or 3 more years that may come laden with “incentives”. His staff will also receive 2 or 3 year roll-overs with significant increases in pay with “medium” incentives to 1) win the WAC; 2) make a bowl game; and 3) 90% graduation rate.

If Gov-elect Abercrombie can make good his commitment in placing UH travel budget as a “line item” into the overall State budget, many, many positives will occur for the UHAD and upper campus – recruiting and increased student enrollment. A continued favorable business forecast for the next 2 years can easily cover this cost.

Then, the burden falls on Jim D to schedule more “big name” schools for football to increase athletic department revenues and coaches can recruit better players; not only for football, but all sports. It will not be easy as most big time schools have full schedules for the next 3-5 years. But, getting them to sign up for the next 5-7 years will display/show the

continued commitment to making UH-Manoa a better school.

And, accepting Garret’s idea to play a “mainland home game” each and every year against a “ranked” opponent from east of the Mississippi has the unintended or intended result of showing ESPN and the PAC-12 how well UH can pull in TV viewers and attend games. If telecast, ESPN can easily track their “secret service” viewer to see how many people throughout the mainland are watching the telecast. If significant, it can increase UH’s value significanlty. Play the “mainland home” on the West Coast if opponent comes from West of the Rockies.

Boise’s Coaching staff’s pay are among the highest in the West for Div 1.

His assistant coaches package has climbed to $1,836,469 for 2010.

Petersen negotiated the assistants’ salaries while hammering out his new five-year contract. His own salary, is worth more than $8 million, and includes fixed salaries instead of the success-based raises over the next 5 years. Only UCLA and Washington of the Pac-10 pay more.

Their new contracts provide a 5 percent raise for eight regular-season wins, a 7.5 percent raise for 10 wins or a 10 percent raise for a WAC title. The bowl bonus is $3,000, or 5 percent of a coach’s salary for a Bowl Championship Series appearance.

    Read more: http://www.idahostatesman.com/2010/08/12/1300144/coaches-pay-among-wests-best.html#ixzz16YudvcfZ

Compared to the above, you could say, we have a bargain with Coach Mack and company. We need to keep our OC and DC and not let them get swept away by a higher paying institution.

  739. madeinhawaii November 27, 2010 9:56 pm

Wahine Bows played a very gritty game tonight. They lead by ten early then lost that lead in the second half.. but came back to win in double overtime. Their shots weren’t going it but they clawed their way to victory. This is a very entertaining team to watch. They are going to give just about every team that they play fits. What turn around in the second season of Takahara-Dias!

  740. kev-1 November 27, 2010 9:58 pm

    #699 – Michigan Warrior

I don’t disagree that what Coach Mack and the team did this year exceeded expectations, but your point is that the award is given for what is done this year, not over a period of time? Then Peterson’s (Boise’s) dominance in the WAC year in and year out should not count them out of contention for Coach of the Year, should it? Nor should preseason rankings? I am not lobbying against Coach Mack, by any means. I just think people are so quick to ordain people with greatness sometimes. And your right, everyone expected Boise and Nevada to finish atop the WAC. BUT NOONE expected Boise to be seriously threatening for a national title shot a week away from the final BCS rankings. And noone expected Nevada to finish the season with one loss (they hope). All that said, if Mack were to win Coach of the Year, I would be happy for him.

And by they way . . . I sure was pulling for the Wolverines to knock off the Buckeyes today. Darn it!

i like these two announcers doing the UH NMSU game. can almost predict what they gonna say. 😀

  748. We slid into Boardriders about eight minutes into the third quarter after today’s Green Giifts Pre-Order Event. Unfortunately, one last “customer” pulled into little park in downtown Kailua where we’d set up shortly before 9 am as we were loading up the car at noon and wanted to place an order. By the time she left, we were really running late.

There were probably 20 of us all totaled watching the football game, but we were yelling loud enough that the restaurant owner next door asked Boardrider’s manager to keep the noise down. As usual, had great pupu

Afterwards, we headed on into town for to watch women’s basketball.

We got there half way through the second game of the day.

I am very, very impressed with the athleticism of these players. Wish I could be around 40-50 years from now to see how they handle ageing.

Coach Dana – Breanna Arbuckle needs to spend half an hour every day shooting free throws. She’s going to fouled every time she goes deep into paint – the other teams will foul her in order to keep her from scoring since she barely makes 35% of her freebies.

Perhaps Coach Gib can help out by teaching the players to go into an altered state where no noise comes through and the surrounding area blacks out.

We will be facing a paucity of live UH sports here on O`ahu for the next three weeks – from Monday, November 29 until Wednesday, December 22, there will only be two events – football at Aloha Stadium on December 4 and men’s basketball at The Stan on December 11.

All other basketball games will be played off-this-island.

Final comment: Please go back & read the comments made in the fall of 2009 by many – but not all – regulars on the Warrior Beat and other sports blogs calling for Coach Mac’s contract to be bought out and a whole new coaching team brought in.

What a difference a year makes.

Night all – another sales day – click my name above for more information – and then we go back into town for the final day of basketball.

  749. I forgot to let folks here know that if you want to make sure that the travel expenses are a line item in the Operating Budget for the upcoming fiscal year, I will post information on how to be an effective Citizen Advocate. However, until the State House gets organized, nothing much can be accomplished because the House starts the budget decision-making. Until the chairs of the Finance and Higher Education Committees are named, there’s not much that can be done.

Stay turned for more details – and yes, politics & sports do make a difference. As for my read on Congress taking on the BCS system, it ain’t gonna happen as long as the Tea Party and the rest of the GOP maintain their control. They do NOT want government interferemce in the private sector.

Now I am off to bed.

Miami Hurricanes fired coach Shannon for finishing 7-5, Miami expects championships and they didn’t get it.

After coach Mac finished his first regular season at 7-6 and before his team took a beating from ND he asked for a roll over from JD but didn’t get it.

Our MIH wants raises and contract extensions, we all view the football landscape with different lenses, some rose colored, others wide eyed and with a “you said what” mentality, but we’re all good, we cheer for the Warriors until the end.

    #740,

Remember those schools that have pay packages bigger than Boise are only public institutions.

There are probably schools who pay more when you factor in privates like USC and Stanford who don’t need to release that kind of data.

Monte Kiffin must make nearly $1M….At Tennessee I heard he was making $1M+….Then again he is MONTE KIFFIN and you get what you pay for haha.

They still felt snug at first, but after a few days of wearing them, they feel a lot better. The support for the bottom of your foot is amazing! You need to get into a healthy place-literally- before you can even begin to start eating healthy. Microwave food is not nutritionally good so it is no wonder you only lost 5 pounds. You need to see about getting yourself a hot plate so you can cook yourself some better food until you get a kitchen to store fresh food. The walking is good, but if you get in some strength training, just by having your doctor get you bands that you can wrap around something in your home such as a door knob that will help burn more calories also. Go to turkey, chicken, fresh fruit and veggies and try to get somewhere that you have access to a kitchen. A better living area will be better peace of mind. Eating alone is never fun, so this way you can entertain and have someone there to talk to during some meals and have focus off the food.

I swear I saw fake coach when I was there it was a few yrs ago though. It’s illegal to sell the fakes so (in my case) you’ll see a guy run to a corner of a street with a black garbage bag, he’ll take them out and you have to run over and buy one really fast and he’ll run off. It feels illegal but uhmm you get a fake so….lol….you have to look for them. They have kiosks with so much cute stuff I spent so much I think I brought 50 bucks for random spending but I wish I had brought more lol.

Possibly, folks can get a signal. Will likely be back to obtain a great deal more. Cheers
