Settling in

OGDEN — The Warriors practiced for 2 hours this afternoon at Weber State’s field. Conditions were nice, although sleet is predicted for tomorrow’s practice at Utah State.

Right tackle Laupepa Letuli and middle linebacker George Daily-Lyles were able to run on the side. Both are recovering from sprained ankles.

Chizzy Dimude worked on kickoff returns, although Dustin Blount is expected to be the No. 1 guy.

And sportscaster Robert Kekaula led the closing cheer. Words are not suitable for a family blog.

Moniz is currently at #11 and Top 16 finalist will be annouced on Monday, October 25th.

The Selection Committee will select Top Three Finalist on November 22nd.

We would need to up ante vote daily to Promote More than currently +200 in order to catch up to BSU QB Moore @ #2. We need 10,000 More Vote just to catch up.

Wouldn’t it be nice that when we meet up in few weeks a match up between No. 2 Moore against No. 3 Moniz on National TV. And Let’s see who is the Best Quaterback in the Nation.

Finalist Voting: Beginning Monday Oct 25th – closing Nov 21st. But the fan vote will count for only 5% of the overall Finalist vote. Basically, its up to the Selection Committee.

But Keep on Voting, we need all the votes to keep moving Moniz UP to Top Three Finalist.

Send email to everyone you know to Vote Vote Vote like hell… Go Moniz!

If I was a LT or RT and the DE rushed to my left or right, I would turn my hips and left or right foot nearly simultaneously, raise my arms to hit him, and drive my legs to keep him totally out of the pocket.

This is, of course, assuming that I have a strong lower body – thus, in off-season practice, I would push heavy items, such as a car, up a slope with someone inside, just in case I lost the battle. Pulling something heavy is for running backs cause get the bumbuchas who goin try and hang on to you.

Also, I would clench my fist, like in Karate, and punch boxing punching bags to strengthen my fist and wrist. And, punch sand in a box. Is it illegal to use clenched fists?

  165. Pride. October 21, 2010 12:34 pm

#132 – Driving your legs while pass blocking is a bad habit that most coaches try to cure. It is natural for young men to want to extend their legs and thrust into the defender with their upper body. Defenders actually try to bait O-linemen in getting them to do exactly that. Once a linemen extends his legs, he loses leverage and balance. Offensive line is leverage, balance, leverage, balance. Linemen should stay down and maintain their base. When you move you use a kick-slide technique or a step-slide technique. But again the linemen don’t want to lose their base. If a line has to maintain the pocket for four seconds, you may sometimes see linemen leave their base and hit and drive the defender at the 3.5 second mark. If the QB doesn’t throw the ball by 4 secs. then wish him luck.

  182. Slugger October 21, 2010 12:53 pm

Offensive line is leverage, balance, leverage, balance. Linemen should stay down and maintain their base.

So instead of taking dance (which would help receivers), O-linemen should take tai chi, actually tai chi and push hands which is the application of tai chi. In push hands, you learn to feel the direction your opponent’s movement is taking him and you use that to be able to push him down or out of the way. I used to be able to knock my honey off his feet when we pushed hands and he outweighed me by 70 lbs. in those days. (He has better balance now that he rides horses.)

There is/was a tai chi class taught at UH by a Master teacher in my style (Wu) of tai chi & she also teaches push hands.

Probably the best would be judo though. Judo gives one a good understanding of leverage and balance. Judo will also enable a football player to be a better hitter. When you hit in football you explode the hips. Someone with a judo background will find it an easy concept to pick up. When I see friends with a big son that shows any interest in football, I always suggest to the parents to put the boy in judo.

    from the KC drive in.

Something like that. Can’t recall since I was only in kindergarten with all the other 5 year olds.

    On another topic:

Among the items sent through a hole to help the 33 trapped miners stay alive was a Samsung “beam” projector cell phone.

The phone, called the Haptic Beam in Korea, was chosen because of its projector function, which lets users beam videos and pictures stored on the device onto any surface, creating a picture as big as 50 inches.

So the trapped men watched movies and a recording of a soccer match between Chile and Ukraine…on the cave wall.

    Re: #235

Liz — Kekoa and I have discussed this several times and we agree that the ideal Tsai-ko Club House must…

    1. be on the beach with a great sunset dinner view

    2. have a beautiful flat beach with 3-6′ surf just outside the reef

    3. have small boat docks for our 12′ and larger water toys

    4. have an outdoor bar & grill patio and surfboard racks

    5. have indoor dining capacity for 200

    6. have a large stage for bands and performances

    7. have a top of the line karaoke and audio system

    8. have at least fourteen (14) 52″ Bravia sets on the walls for ST’s sports bar

    9. be named “Have a Cow BBQ” per ST

  247. Markazulu October 21, 2010 3:49 pm

From the Nevada newspaper by DanHinxman

A WAC title is still a possibility, but not if Nevada continues to hurt itself. After three weeks of winning games against inferior competition despite turnovers and potential turnovers in the form of self-recovered fumbles, hand-outs finally caught up with the Pack. But it was the woeful first half that did in the Pack. Nevada couldn’t block, couldn’t throw and despite a solid defensive effort couldn’t tackle, and it didn’t help that the play calling was very conservative, even after Ault said during the week that it wouldn’t be. Kaepernick was off, yes, but his confidence would have been helped had they put him in better situations, such as play-action passes and passes on first down.

  248. wafan October 21, 2010 3:49 pm

Hmmmm, still no pix of practice.

Did Mr. Tsai freeze up at the opportunity?

  249. Shoko October 21, 2010 3:50 pm

Okay, based on what I’m seeing with the Bruins defesne, how in the world did UCLA beat Texas at home?

  250. Steve October 21, 2010 3:53 pm

    Chopsueyboy,

I will be there between 11:30 and 12:30 for my chocolate shake, probably will try it with peanut butter this time. Hope to see you then.

  251. Markazulu October 21, 2010 3:54 pm

Well I dont think Texas is all that good they did beat Nebraska but idk I just dont think that Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska isnt as good as everyone says they are they’re good but I dont think there Outstanding like years past…

  252. Shoko October 21, 2010 4:00 pm

    Markazulu.

You make a valid point. It’s still early tho. Wait till the Auburn-LSU game. I bet one of them jump to the number one or two spot.

  253. If Utah State returns essentially the same defensive front they had last season.

PAU. We win the game in the trenches. Again, we put up 300+ yards on the ground against them last season with LWJ and Alex Green having a great night.

Our line is BIGGER than last season in the interior with Thomas and Ginlack/Leonard, BETTER than last season, and quicker at the edge with Letuli/LaCount and Hansen.

Moniz has better instincts this year and doesn’t opt for the run as quick as before.

We WILL be ok up in Logan.

Borel (sp?) is a BETTER QB than Kaepernick in all aspects and will be a handful. We should have beaten Utah State in Logan two years ago, but we were TOO sloppy.

  254. LizKauai m/ October 21, 2010 4:31 pm

#247 – Thanks, Markazulu – makes me feel better that Nevada did not play anyone and did it all to themselves. I think there is a name for that, but then everyone would be blind.

    😈

I’ve watched Nevada this season and the season before and the season before.

    IT WAS THE SAME TEAM!!!

In the way they did NOT deserve to be invited to a supposedly better conference, they did NOT deserve a ranking of that magnitude.

The ONLY joy I received out of that night was beating a school that thinks they are better than they really are and not beating a over-ranked team.

Watching to Oregon/UCLA game I was struck by the offensive similarities with UH, but not a word, nada, by the 3 voices about a “system”; only comments about their offensive powers in passing and rushing. Gushing over Oregon’s QB passing.

same three that “knocked” UH as a “system” and Colt as a “system QB”. like we have said before, if it is Hawaii, knock them down and knock them down. what a bunch of croc!!!

Bryant Moniz is at #10 with 3100 votes. Next is number 9, Russell Wilson from NC State. I voted today, did you?

  308. kev-1 October 21, 2010 8:34 pm

okay . . . I know this has been talked about over and over again, but did anyone else think Oregon’s uniforms looked fricken awesome tonight? I loved it. The yellow with black, especially the flat black helmets. I think the fact that they look so different and unique everytime they hit the field is great. They look and play very creative. That’s why I appreciated what JJ was trying to do with our uniforms. The silver and black additions gave us a new, fresh, and unique combination to choose from. I know most of you guys go back to the good old days, and I respect that a lot, and also love the unis from back then too. But I miss the silver. I know, silver isn’t our school color, but neither is black. And black isn’t Oregons color, or highlighter yellow.

Come on under armour . . . give us a throw back to look at. I know Mack already said that the silver is did, but I wish he would reconsider. Not all Hawaii football fans are old timers.

Please don’t take my old timer comment the wrong way. I mean no disrespect at all. Just using the term to refer to football fans from the old regime.

  309. kev-1 October 21, 2010 8:35 pm

I meant to say that Mack said silver is dead, not did

  314. NorthShoreFan October 21, 2010 9:06 pm

Howzit Bleed…hope you can make the next T-gate…local foods and some Aussie guest..should be fun..

Ralph..Jon Riki is going to be the legislative liason, not sure if he going be doing court room action. Maybe he can get the laws toughed up so no can try run away like some of them when try.

A-House…the powers that be only protecting the bs they created. Then along comes Boise, Hawaii and other programs that scratch, claw and spill the blood to get quality wins against so called BCS schools and turn the dam equation upside down.

If, (non-BCS) we continue to create winning programs the public will demand a playoff system.

    DEATH TO THE BCS!

Warriors can make a huge statement and rock the boat with a huge win this week. Set up the showdown at Smurf Field and WIN! Not to mention getting Warrior players some needed exposure to the scouts at the next level.

  315. gmahoney October 21, 2010 9:06 pm

    JaM is Koa Mahu?

  316. gmahoney October 21, 2010 9:11 pm

gmahoney is short for Grandma Honey. Long story short, I became a mother quite young and a grandmother very very young. My oldest grandson is 5 years younger than my mother’s youngest grandchildren. So to distinguish between the two of us, I became Grandma Honey and she was just Grandma.

    But, gee-I-am-a-honey sounds good too.

Calm down my Hilo braddah! We still got Utah stuck to the bottom of our cleats.

Weather looks like it wants to test the Warrior resolve. They can play ‘wet’ but can they play when the wind chill is down in the thirties?

I’m hoping they can *heat* things up early, and never take their foot off the gas pedal no matter how bad the weather gets.

Now can I go back sleep??

It sounds like the campus visits and expansion plans may be delayed a little while the WAC is in mediation with Fresno/Nevada.

Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson said Wednesday he continues to focus on resolving his league’s situation with outgoing members Fresno State and Nevada rather than lining up campus visits to UTSA and Texas State.

I’m campaigning to all Warrior fans that will be attending the Boise game.

Support local business in Boise by purchasing a noise maker for the game.

    # 1 – Cowbell with drumstick

    # 2 – Duckcall

    # 3- Both # 1 an # 2

Make yourself sound like 10 fans and irritate the Broncs. It’s all legal at Bronco stadium

Yeah someone once told Josh Pacheco that he just rambles on and on… His answer to the coment was “that’s my job”. Really? I thought maybe to inform or present pertainant topics for dicussion.

If you noticed if were listening this morning no body was calling and he didn’t even invite callers to call. Anyway I can only take him for a very short period of time so the radio got the axe.

You should really think about working on developing this blog into a major authority in this market. You evidently have a grasp handle of the matters everybody is searching for on this website anyways and you could definitely even make a buck or two off of some promotion. I would explore following recent topics and raising the amount of write ups you put up and I guarantee you’d begin seeing some awesome targeted traffic in the near future. Just a thought, good luck in whatever you do!

Remodeling a closed kitchen to create it much more open is not usually simple – but it’s feasible. should start by measuring the room and marking on graph paper the position of all with the walls. It is easiest to make use of a scale that is a quarter of an inch per 1 foot. You’ve to also have to mark the windows, doorways, switch plates, cabinets, outlets, fixtures, and conveniences.

Much easier to get a place to stay too. If you want to wait til the New Year, March through May isn’t bad and still reasonably less expensive than summer-just bring a coat!

It will initially be difficult after about 20 sec but by the end of the month you should be able to hold the position for a couple of minutes. Else try going to a bottleshop for a 6 pack.

My heart sank when I heard about the window washer who suffered serious personal bodily disfigurement in Will County in an on the job building accident. But I’m so relieved that he survived a 30 foot fall, which of course could have been his death. I wish this man the very best for a happy and very quick recovery. Please keep this worker and his family in your prayers.
