Day after; Satele released

I have to say….the Warriors played an awesome game tonight. Looking forward to a great season!

Last year, I returned home frustrated after many of our games. Frustrated with our style of play. Frustrated with the indecisiveness of the coaching. Frustrated with our turnovers. Frustrated with holding and other drive killing penalties.

Tonight, despite the loss, I returned home excited. Certainly, there are things that have to be improved. But what a difference a year has made. Well done coaches and players.

Tough break for Rodney Bradley. I thought the receivers did well as a whole last night. They definitely proved themselves to be one of the strengths of this team. Is Letuli hurt? I didn’t see him come back in after LaCount came in. Pepa was having a pretty good game before he got hurt. I think Sampson is going to be a great returner sooner rather than later. I was excited every time he touched the ball.

We are foxing tonsil some games but USC is going to have a long season

Rodney Bradley….broken leg, now possible broken ribs???…pleasse don’t tell me, another injury prone player we all been counting on??

Like many of you, despite the loss, I’m not as depressed as I usually am after a loss. Although… we did have more than our share of opportunities to take this game… we just couldn’t come up with big stops when we needed them, plus not being able to punch it in early in the game as we need to.

Very optimistic about the rest of this year.

We need a kicker and better execution on special teams:( We r going to do just fine this year, fix some pukas in the D and learn how to wrap up on the tackles!!!

For all the complaining about the lack of penalty on the hit on Moniz, it should be pointed out that UH scored a TD on that drive so whether or not they threw a flag on the play wouldn’t have affected the game.

Even CNN Headline News had a short “discussion” about the touchdown that never was. They thought it should have been one.

Way to to stay in there and fight Offense! USC shouldn’t have scored on the punt. Why was there more players behind the returner than in front of him? Defense needs to actually tackle instead of trying to bowl people over. We were in this game and I’m proud of our Warriors! Wouldve wanted a victory but I’m more excited now to watch the rest of the season!

ST’s article pointed out the confusion on defense that I was going to comment on.

Several times, the Warriors were out of position in pass coverage. On one play, the Warriors did not have a cornerback aligned on Johnson, who waved to Barkley for the quick snap.

“I was trying to get the call,” UH cornerback Jeramy Bryant said. “I got caught trying to get the call and trying to play football at the same time. That’s how it goes. You play a a team like USC and make a mistake, they’ll find it.”

Hawaii had 588 yards of offense with no turnovers? Awesome. I thought the Bradley catch was a clearer TD than the Salas one. Beautiful pass by Rausch. I think Hawaii can win with all three QBs but I wouldn’t be surprised if Austen starts at West Point.

I agree with you that they should have called the penalty, especially since they are emphasizing hits to the head this year. I just wanted to point out that the lack of penalty did not change the outcome of the game.

I agree Michigan Warrior, it sets a weak precedent for defending the QB.

Second, congrats to the o-line they had been questioned all summer, but they answered any question last night. I myself think we found our starting QB, Moniz is not it, sorry but he might be better suited for a option system, his passes where all over the place. Rausch though he has a good arm, he can’t move, Austin showed he has a good arm and knows the system, start him coach.

Now for the bad news, the “D”, IMHO it lies all on the coaches, they were totally confused the whole game, there were many plays where our guys where still coming on the field when USC was ready to snap the ball. Lametrius Davis is not a starting corner, he was burned every play. There was no pass rush to speak of, was it play calling or lack of a good pass rusher? They might think of breaking out the Big Bag again. One good note is Spencer Smith had a good night.

This game should have been won. Sorry Cliff ya know I love ya man but USC sucks, all those studs you talk about aren’t that good. Granted they got the “W” but they didn’t win it we gave it to them. The score should have been 38-28 UH, but like life we have to live with it. USC will not have a good season in the PAC -10 this year.

Now lets move on to next week, Army is a winnable game for us, but need to fix the “D” and start Austin

#11… mctruck… I’m pretty sure we forced them to punt twice, and I know we sacked Barkley at least once on a 3rd and long situation. I think that play followed a penalty which pushed them way back. But yeah, our defense really needs to get it together. Fresh bodies are fine, but we gotta get those plays in faster. We wasted a few time-outs because of the slow play calling… on both offense and defense. I know, I know… first game with new Coordinators… just saying… we fix these things and we got a great year to look forward to.

Dark horse, spoiler, whatever… Keep it up and we can win this conference.

I liked Moniz running that option for a first down. Shovel pass didn’t work. Looking forward to the game against Army next week. An old army buddy of mine is the commander of the army band out there. Wow, time sure flies!

Plus did Enos ever reach the end zone on his kick offs, its tuff to let them start on the 35-40 yard line every time. I thought the cover teams did o.k. , except for that one brain fart where they thought the guy called for the fair catch

#41… Pomai… agree!!! We need to kick it into the endzone and stop giving up so much extra real estate from the get-go! Don’t we have anyone that we can use just for kickoffs? I don’t care who it is, just boot it through the endzone so they can’t return it!

Garret I think we need to find a kicker who can put the ball in the endzone on kickoffs, Enos didn’t seem to have the leg to get it deeper than the 15/20, but he did a great job on FG/PA, granted there where a couple of his kicks that the coachs called for the pooch/onside kicks.

I thought that the only thing that Bulla could have been criticizing Enos for was the kickoff depth, but ever since they moved the kickoff spot back most schools do NOT have a kicker that reaches the end zone on kickoffs. That was the whole reason they moved the kickoff spot back!

Maybe the coaches want to have height on kickoffs more than kicking it long to help the coverage team?

The bottom line is that UH has already given *2* scholarships to kickers when many schools don’t use a single scholarship on a kicker. If UH isn’t happy with how Enos kicks off, they should get Hadden or Dunnachie to kick off. The #1 thing UH needs from a kicker is to make his FGs and XPs and Enos did that well yesterday.

#47… BIK… USC only put his reserves in for a short series. When we answered them and scored again, Kiffin put his starting defense back in. Poor kids were totally gassed. We looked to be in better shape than they did. Thanks to our strength and conditioning!

Now, if only we can tackle some people (on the other team). Sampson is quick and shifty, but he ran into one of our own teammates on that one return, thus stopping one of his runs. Same with Moniz on a scramble… ran into our own lineman, resulting in a USC sack even though they didn’t tackle him.

Proud of the Warriors, especially the O-line. They made it happen on offense. Our talented skill players can really shine when the O-line played like it did last night.

Fix some spots on defense and we have a Warrior team that is ready to roll.

ESPN showed several replays of the hit on Moniz and the commentators were saying they couldn’t understand why there was no flag. You could see the SC player swing his elbow at Moniz’s helmet and you could see Moniz’s body snap back head first. Ugly. Very ugly. The SC player should have been kicked out of the game. I hate to bring it up, but it was there for all to see. I have lost some of the respect I had for SC as a result.

Austin looked solid as a back up. Give him more reps I say.

The most important thing I saw was a team that is tough, scrappy and who won’t concede defeat. This group has that fighting spirit which is essential for a good team to have.

I’m liking Pride’s prediction for the season even more.

The o-line was a terrific and welcomed surprise..great work, especially on the running plays.

I think our defense was just about a non-entity in the game. Unbelievably poor tackling, people looked out of position. The d-backs could not cover even when it would have appeared quite obvious that Barkley was favoring a certain receiver (almost like Brennan throwing to Rivers in the game against ASU).

Looks like the offense is going to have to carry the defense. Somehow just do not see that prideful “island mentality, not in our house” style that we had back when Tomey was here. Back in the day, the D appeared to just want to show the Iowa’s, BYU and others that they could out hit and out D those guys…even when they lost (remember that game against Nebraska). Have not seen that kind of team pride blossom here. See more individual chest pounding when a hit (which is what is supposed to happen all the time) is made. Can’t remember seeing Taase Faumui or Alvis Satele or Niko or Al Noga doing that, but they used to lay some lumber.

We get that back, that UH D, it’ll be a different defense and a diferent team effort. Without it, we’ll continue to struggle against upper tiered teams.

I told JJ to recruit Robbie Boyer 4 years ago. Why? he is Barkley’s cousin and is a walk on at USC, Barkley was a surgeon and there was not much we could do.

Their Mater Dei kid played well. ours, did not play.

I have great hope for both teams. I think 9-10 wins for both schools.

We wont face another QB like that until Kapernik (Sp) and Moore and Barkley is better than both of those by a smidge.

All of our foibles are correctable as are USC, except maybe their secondary. Jim Harbaugh is licking his chops!

What we should be thankful for is that we did not face the two best players from their spring game, Dillon and Prater.

Good morning after! Re: USC and penalties, complaining about the quantity is not something USC would or should do. The team usually gets about 10 a game, and frequently for more total yardage. Even in the Booty days (fun to type that sentence) and before.

Back to the non-call on the hit on Bryant Moniz, no it didn’t affect the score. However, you gotta make that call every single time to make it clear dangerous actions are not acceptable.

i totally agree with you, the call or no call is not determined by the effect it will have in the game. the rule is for the protection of the athlete, period. even the ESPN announcers believed that a call should have been made. it is what it is, just hope and pray that Moniz is ok and will be able to play if his condition allows it.

My wife and I both have iPhones. The ATT Network spent the whole night Searching… Last year at least we got some reception.

There was a Wifi network nearby listed as Free Public Wifi, but we couldn’t access. They must have it locked down.

Bulla agree. The O-line did a wonderful job. Was impressed when we ran. I believe at one point we or one of the runners averaged 7.3 yds, per carry. Would not have expected that against a vaunted SC front.

On the other hand, Tyler averaged 9.1 yds. per carry. Unacceptable. There were times when it appeared he was sprayed with Pam as our guys slipped off him like pancakes on a Pam sprayed griddle, and yes, we were pinched, guys looked like they were taking bad angles and whiffing.

At the end of the first half, the ESPN announcers kept saying that Hawaii was out of time outs, yet the TV listed 1 more with the yellow line under Hawaii. I think USC had 2. Does any body know for sure? If they had a timeout then maybe we should have run the ball. Also a quick downing of the ball to stop the clock should be implemented by UH.

I feel good about the offense too. Moniz will be back. Once he dialed in, you could tell he is the guy. Worried about Bradley though. If this is a serious injury and will be out for a long time, he should consider a medical redshirt.

Defense? What gives? They were made out to look pretty pathetic sometimes. I know it was USC and athletecism, etc, but come on.

So proud of our guys. I know they feel down, but man, the whole nation saw us play our hearts out. Like watching Rocky versus Drago. Everyone expected us to lose, but no one expected us to hang in there like a junkyard dog who won’t let go.

Defense – Serious problems. But the good news: all correctable. Gotta get back to basics: position, technique, getting off blockers, etc.

Special Teams – Again, needs A LOT of work. I question the decision-making, as well. Onside kick with 6:30? Half pooch with 3 min?

OLine – critics silenced with an exclamation point.

Moniz and Rausch – gamers with all heart. Rausch was throwing bullets and hitting our guys in mid-stride. He’s gotta learn to release and throw it away sooner, though, to avoid the sack.

RBs – best we’ve had in a long time. Let’s use them more.

Receivers – STRONG when we can hold onto the ball. YAC were excellent. Lots of weapons. Prayers go out to Bryant.

Pistol – love it. Keep it.

Now football nation is wondering: is USC just weak or are we stronger? I’m excited to find out in the next few games.

Keys to the game:

Yeah, we were out-schemed (or out-coached if you want to call it that) by sc’s O at times, but give credit where it’s due. Some of those plays/patterns were absolute things of beauty, like the late shifts after UH had already aligned the defense. Forced the young and inexperienced LB crew to adjust on the fly, which didn’t happen as smoothly as it could have. Kiffin’s a scuzz, but there’s a reason he was tabbed to be headcoach of the Raiders and Tennessee: his O schemes are pretty slick.

Barkley. The cat is just good. Accurate. Quick release. Gotta give him props.

SC’s TE and FB Havili (The Boxer). Forget the gaudy numbers by the others. To me these guys hurt us the most, with ferocious blocking and key touches.

SC’s kicker. Enos did a great job on FGs and PATS and I personally think his kickoffs were acceptably deep. On the other hand SC’s kicker was kicking off eight to ten yards into the endzone every time. That gets him into the NFL.

I don’t wanna brag but VZW and my DROID X didn’t let me down inside Aloha Stadium last night.

Bryant Moniz may not be as accurate as Brent Rausch or Shane Austin. Granted the Run and Shoot requires and accurate arm. But he has the one intangible over the others. He has the thorough knowledge of the offense, he can improvise when the play called for breaks down or the defense sniffs it out, he is a smart runner who can run when a play calling for a pass and all the receivers are covered. He’s got a great instinct for the game, doesn’t get rattled easily, keeps his poise. Yes, in a perfect world, the other back-ups could start. Brent Rausch had his chance in 2008. I don’t know how he disappeared off the charts after that. Only Greg McMackin knows the real answer. Or why hasn’t Shane Austin been giving more playing time in previous year. Three closely talented QB’s and only one can start. I feel for the people that say Shane Austin should start. But only Greg McMackin knows the real answer. Book em Macko!

-The Rainbow Warrior Marching Band, our cheerleaders, and Rainbow Dancers are second to NONE, especially against USC’s ones. Good grief, I mean, you look pretty but if you can’t dance or whatever then I dunno…

I mean we’ve got on little girl that dances with our Rainbow Dancers and she does handstand push-ups with the UH ROTC guys and no one is holding her feet or anything. That one little girl alone OUT-WORKED those song girls or whatever SC calls them.

After Wisconsin last year I thought our defense was gonna give up more touchdowns. While we still need to improve on defense I think we did see improvement since Wisconsin. Just remember though while we are criticizing our defense USC fans are doing the same to theirs. We aren’t happy cause we are fans, which I think is a good thing.

it appeared to me that pilares has a little more giddyup in his step. i was concerned preseason that his bulking up physically would impede his foot speed but instead he looked a lot quicker and faster.

Kazz – Machete will equal cheesy fun. Rodriguez is sooooo good at that. Hoping it’s more Grindhouse than Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

As for the SC fans leaving quietly, it’s because they’re thinking, “If little ol’ Hawaii scored 36 on us, what the heck are the SEC teams gonna do to us?” My SC classmates are FREAKING OUT about their D. They love their QB, but know they can’t score 49 points every game to make up for their defense.

coach Mac should quit making excuses and tell it like it is. His defensive coaches and special team coaches all did a horrible job last night. Also coach Rolo has got to believe that his running game can go three yard in three downs

I had a total of two beers over a 6 hour tailgating period and a TOTAL of STILL SAME TWO beers over a 12 hour period.

I don’t really drink, but while I am worried about the loss of income for those buying drinks, I AM in favor of STOPPING beer sales as soon as the halftime is done.

If UH and the Big West agreed to all conditions, whichever they might be….UH business/travel department(s), if they have such, could probably workout deals(discounts, etc.) with hotels/transportation, etc., up and down the California region where they’ll play on a long term basis(fixed rates), which could help defray their expenses as well.

One other thing I should point out is that USC may have good starters, but they are really thin on depth and Mack was correct that USC’s D was getting exhausted as the game went on. I didn’t see it mentioned in the papers that one of USC’s DEs (Nick Perry, who tied for the team lead in sacks last year) has gotten over his injury and was cleared to play…but USC’s coaches decided to hold him out of the UH game (even though he was on the sidelines) so that he would be healthier for their next game.

Mack pointed out that USC’s DL was out of gas. Without one of their top DEs, and with very little depth, that was not surprising. If UH had pulled off the upset, the LA papers and the national media would have really questioned holding out Perry.

Pomei — Love it — Offensive Line – So PROUD – Offense looks good other than red zone!! You have 2 yards RUN THE BALL !!! Quit trying to throw easily readable and this is why we do not get in ! Defense Embarassing on both sides — but WOW why should corners just be there because they are Seniors? — BEST PLAYERS should play !! To me the defense was the biggest worry and to get to the next level they need to be 200% better – they looked like Pee Wee football half of the night, confused not knowing where they were suppose to be should not be happening at this level. USC defense quit honestly was not much better and very young you could tell as well.

USC is history. Go Warriors beat Army. but not too badly please.

I thought after watching the game UHs DTs can play with anyone in the country but they need help.

Overall I like what Kiffin did on offense. He gave UH a lot to look at. It will help us later on down the road.

Concussions are nuthing to mess with, and moniz has now had at least two of them in two seasons. hope he doesnt try to muscle through it to his detriment. throwing up after a big hit is certainly not a good sign.

The best thing I liked about the game was how gassed the USC defense was and they showed signs of it in the 2nd quarter. Usually it was the other way around.

The stoners in the stands don’t bother me one bit.

They may stand a tad late during the fans doing the wave but they are the least violent, least combative, and win or lose they are having a good time.

The drunk people in the stands though become belligerent and can make the “game experience” a negative one.

The South Endzone had some fights and people were chanting “TASER.” While everybody is standing, cat-calling and looking around, the chronics below me could have cared less.

Oh yeah- the best, best, best was being with the Tsai-kos again… meeting new people, catching up with old friends, and hooking up with the Austin Ohana!

As for the USC folks- everyone I met was cordial, devoted and friendly. I love how they showed up – even on Kauai- to support their team and ENJOY the islands. Best case scenario for the Sports-Tourist industry!

And, oh yeah… Even though the cyberspace connection was REALLY limited, I enjoyed GOING OFF about a few incidents on the field with my fellow Tsai-kettes – especially Laurie Beth Miller, who released her inner TITA with a vengeance!

The key for UH is not to tip its intention on travel subsidies. Yet.

If you’re San Jose State, you might ask: If UH is willing to pay travel subsidies to Big West teams, why not pay it to current WAC teams?

I think the “hat” was tipped a while ago.

Jim Donovan said publically on Bobby Curran’s show that he offered subsidies to the MWC and they turned him down.

I’m 99.9% sure that is what I heard.

I had a conversation with a friend about my theory about why it’s quieter at night than the day. Essentially I explained to him that the sun is actually emitting a loud roar during the day. We as adults don’t hear it because as soon as we are born, our eardrums are damaged as such so that it no longer can hear this sound, hence why we cry as soon as we are out of the womb.

Then the conversation escalated to where we discussed the possibilities of time travel and creating an alternate future if one of us dropped a cheeseburger into a lava pit in prehistoric times.

How UH does this season, and how valuable ESPN feels a TV contract with UH might be, may determine what is best for UH.

BINGO! Lighting it up on offense and providing a fun and entertaining product on the field is a huge part of that equation. Even though UH lost, this was the first time in a long where I walked out after the game and didn’t feel disgusted about the offensive output. Even in many winning efforts the past two seasons, anemic comes to mind when it came to the O. One of the big draws for the television audience during the JJ era was the fact that Hawaii could light it up at any moment. Returning back to that form should make UH attractive again to ESPN (right now, it is clear we are an afterthought).

If this O can put up some gaudy numbers against the opponents the rest of this season (and beyond), the blabbering idiots at ESPN will have no choice but to talk about Hawaii and that again is only a positive as it puts UH back on the radar again. I also skimmed through my recording of the game and came across the part where Bob Davies said Hawaii needs to keep this offense. After Jones left, I’m pretty sure these talking heads were dubious (rightfully so) if UH could effectively run the R&S without its primary braintrust making the game time decisions. I believe Rolovich is growing well into his role as he has the experience and perspective of actually having run the offense (as Jones did). Handing him the reigns as well as bringing back Mouse Davis this season is probably going to pay huge dividends. And as others have already mentioned, the performance of the O-line made a big impact in allowing the QB’s the time they needed.

I’m glad to hear they aren’t taking this as a moral victory. We can only achieve the sort of respect that is garnered on teams like Boise by beating the big names. Addressing and fixing the mistakes will take care of the results on the scoreboard if everyone (players and coaches) does their jobs correctly. How this team progresses over the next two games (especially against Colorado) will be a good indicator of this teams potential heading into conference play. Winning against Army is a must. Beating Colorado in Boulder though will be a step in the right direction.

Someone asked about whose idea it was regarding going to the pistol. Probably Mouse Davis since they started running it at PSU 2 seasons ago. Jones also began using this formation last season at SMU to take advantage of Shawnbrey McNeal (the running back that transferred from Miami).

One word, promising. Of couse, one game at this point is not a good gauge. How we do against Army and more so Colorado will validate the offensive performance displayed against USC. I’m glad there was anger in the locker room and they are not taking this as a moral victory because by fixing the problems, this squad has the potential to bring respectability back to UH football. We have to beat these caliber teams.

USC no doubt has plenty of athleticism (knee deep in 4-5 star talent) but it is unclear if they are just continuing where they left off last season. This game was supposed to be a tuneup for their scrimmage against Virginia at the L.A. Coliseum (paraphrasing what an ESPN talking head said last weekend during one of those preview shows). The objective was to have the game out of reach in the first half such that they could get their 2nd and 3rd teams some playing time. While they weren’t taking this game lightly either, it is clear this USC squad has some major issues. Giving up 588 yards and 36 points (44 if UH could have punched it in early instead of settling for a FG and that Sala’s TD which was nullified at the end of the 1st half) revealed just how much closer this game could have been especially if the UH defense had been able to stop the SC offense. Take away the punt return and this game could have been a whole lot different.

The past two seasons offense has been Jeckyl and Hyde-like and only inconsistently reminiscent of the 4-wide that JJ ran. I personally think the changes McMackin made with the offensive coaching staff during this past offseason (departure of Ron Lee who I had been critical of, handing the reins to Rolovich as OC AND letting him do his job, bringing back Mouse Davis) has a lot to do with this years offense looking more like what we’ve been used to. And as others have mentioned, the o-line which was one of the biggest question marks deserves a lot of credit (including coach Shaw) as they held their own against USC’s front d-linemen. It is one of the biggest reasons why the UH offense was able to put up the numbers it did. A plus running the 4-wide out of the pistol formation is if we can really turn up the running game several notches, this offense will be dangerous as that will open up the passing game even more.

The take away from this first game against a talent laden squad such as USC is that we know we can compete with the best. This is one of the huge benefits of being able to play against the nations elite programs.

I finally made it out to a Tsaiko tailgate. I had fun and the fuud was tooo much. I always wanted to meet LizKauai and I not only got to meet her, she brought the most ono chocolate covered long johns from Kauai. I missed the lilikoi chiffon cake that she also brought though. I got to renew the names to some of the Tsaikos that I met before and even met some that I didn’t meet before. I was very pleasantly suprised at one of the Tsaikos too. Wanted to point out that the remaining fans in our side, the North end zone, gave a rousing standing ovation to our Warriors.

It was CLEAR to TRUE UH fans that it was a hell of an effort last night despite our short comings in certain areas.

Not one head dressed in black or green was down looking at the ground. Lot’s of HI-5’s amongst the Warrior nation and heads held high.

Re: the Big West story Garret posted earlier, it had an interesting nugget about Boise. Maybe you guys already knew this but the Smurf stadium only seats 33,000 people and only sold out for 2 games in 2009.

I posted the Long Beach Press-Telegram article earlier, but I figured I should re-post the ESPN article.

This article talks about how UH has talked to the Big West about adding its non-football sports if UH goes independent in football. ESPN mentions that UH is attractive to the Big west for men’s and women’s basketball, and adding UH to the Big West would give the Big West the needed 6 members for an automatic berth. The article also mentions that UH is the *only* WAC school that has contacted the Big West

The Riverside Press-Enterprise (UC-Riverside is in the Big West) is definitely in favor of adding UH to the Big West.

This can be good for both sides. Hawaii stands to be part of a far-flung six-team WAC when Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada leave for the Mountain West Conference. That conference doesn’t seem sustainable, and while commissioner Karl Benson dropped the names of the Big West’s UC Davis and Cal Poly (along with Sacramento State) as possible expansion candidates last week, he also talked of Texas-San Antonio and Texas State.

If I’m Hawaii, I’d rather play in a California-based conference than making yearly road trips to Texas and Louisiana.

If I’m Farrell, I’m looking for a creative deal that addresses current members’ concerns over travel costs while emphasizing to Hawaii that this may be its best, most comfortable landing place.

while our OLine did well, that is the last time we will see teams line up with just four down lineman. USC, because of the emphasis they place on it while recruiting can run that set!

The reason the Phones weren’t working in the stadium is cause the AT&T network was getting bottleneck traffic going to and from the cell towers…remember there are more iPhones out there than there all droids/android devices…and AT&T carries both IPHONES & Android devices….

First game of the season.. going to have glitches.. going to have misreads and bad positioning… That’s why you try to schedule an easy game for the opening game.. The greatest improvements is between game 1 and game 2.

Unfortunately, we had USC.

Defense, to me, wasn’t as bad as some would make it out to be. There were probably more good plays than bad plays. Unfortunately, the bad plays tend to stand out the most and hurt the team the most when playing the likes of a top 20 team.

Special teams, punt and kickoffs need to work on their tackling.

Playing the likes of USC will show you all your weaknesses and often hide your strengths. But our boys did good.

Compared to last season, I’d say we are a lot further along and the fix looks a lot more doable.

Actually it looks like, in his best seasons, they didn’t play USC.

there are always some low points in any game, but i like to think about the high when the warriors turned on their jets and left the trojans in the dust. now that was priceless.

There were a lot of empty seats towards the end of the game. Too bad. Those folks who left early missed seeing 2 Hawaii touchdowns in the 4th quarter.

They also marked the ball on the 1 yard line, where, if his elbow did touch, which the replays didn’t show, the ball should have been placed inches from the goal line. I now realize why former athletes leave Hawaii and never come back

as playing for UH over the years and having their athletic career come

to an end is an emotional feeling of joy or sadness pending on the athlete’s

career.

I have reached out to MANY in hopes to INSPIRE them to come

back, give back your time or money to UH but for various confidential

reasons they choose not to as the hard work over the years to develop

their talents in a sport they LOVE cannot mend a broken heart as many

still today will not look at their playing picture, discusss their GREATEST

games or even send their athletic son born and raise to even consider

playing for UH !

Alumni Hawaii athletes since I join the letterwinners club in 2000,

not ONE has join the association with FREE membership being offered

that includes your beloved Warrior football players, basketball, baseball,

volleyball, softball or any other sport as the LWC has an annual luncheon

to urge athletes to join but when they get through eating, sharing hugs

and good byes with their athletic fraternity the sign up sheet comes back

with not ONE name being signed up for it. The reason “they don’t care as

I don’t care no more”.

I have given time, money, support and raised interest outside of Hawaii

to support upper and lower campus with no regards of looking for monetary

income or reimbursement but I see from the many negative posters who

continues to take shots at me from a GAME that has really no impact to life

BUT in retrospect it does as I see clearly the writing on the wall.

Well Tsaiko Nation you don’t have to take shots at this ignorant, whimer,

stupid, traitor, can’t write former athlete any more as I join my “out of

sight and out of mind” athletic fraternity away from you as I finally see

what they meant to the true meaning of dissapointment !

I leave with no ill feelings as I had a BALL meeting some GREAT folks

on this blog as I hope to meet many of you on the other side out side

of this forum as I really accomplish what my whole purpose was the first

time that I post was to “give back to the ohana in which you gave me

How many of the Tsai-kos that you have met personally are piling on you? None that I noticed. They know you and know where you’re coming from. You know where you stand as a known Tsai-ko. I don’t know about the others.

Rainbow Cliff, as far as LWC or any UH alumni assn, this has been a very weak point for UH and don’t see much improvement in the near future. This is because UH itself has one of the weakest alumni assn and they have no clue as to understand that the alumni assn is one of the greatest assest of any school. Why do other schools get huge money from their alumni??? Because they work at it and staff the alumni office, run it like a business, and reach out throughout the year.

Rolo did NOT need Mouse Davis to be successful this past Thursday night. Rolo has fine-tuned some of what he did and what he learned from last year. I think it’s a shame now that he’s coming into his own that people will give Mouse credit for HIS success and ingenuity. I think Rolo thrived with JJ’s tutelage and he was the closest thing to a mentor that Nick had. I see Mouse as being an invaluable “sounding-board” that Rolo can bounce ideas and applications off of rather than being a true mentor. I hope also that before Dave Aranda is “evaluated” or judged as a DC, that they should at least wait till the end of the season rather than making it after a game against USC. In case people have so conveniently forgotten, Coach Mack IS his mentor and is giving him a chance to fend for himself, letting him spread his wings, so to speak, rather than micro-managing every detail. I do wish that Tormey had ordered the cornerbacks to always jam wide-outs (with the quality USC has) to disrupt their timing and to enhance their own chances to make a play.Our Senior CBs were essentially “schooled”. I would much rather have seen what Hardy-Tuilau and Poueu-Lunas could’ve done; obviously they couldn’t have done much worse.

What I forgot to say on #510 about Coach Mack is that so many people have amnesia over the fact that he was a huge contributor to JJ’s success in his first year here. They also may not know or remember that HE was the architect of some of the greatest defensive teams of all time (NCAA) at the University of Miami as well as being highly respected in the NFL for his work there. Think of what Mack, Rolo and Aranda could do if they had the plethora of talent (and depth) that the likes of a USC, Florida, Texas or Alabama have at their beck and call…then judge.

In 2008 we had a red zone/touchdown percentage of 58%. In 2009, that number went down to 44%. Thursday’s red zone/touchdown percentage was 33%. So we’ll be watching those numbers throughout the season also.

RainBowCliff, I know your still reading, so I have a question for you and all the other Letterwinners out there who are reading this. What does it take to get you involved? I want to find out because that is one of the goals of the Na Wahine Softball Booster Club, that is to involve more of the Alumnae. I don’t want their money I want their time, I want their voices, I want to hear from them. So the question is HOW? If anyone else has an OPINION lets hear it, but remember we need answers not questons.

Was watching coach Petersen(BSU), interview on ESPN past week and his comment as to finding recruits was, “if you’re not big and fast we don’t want you here.”

UH defense is what it is….mostly short guys with shorter arms, which would be o.k., except it seems like their also, not as fast. Put that into context with what makes BSU successful and you see the glaring difference. Looks like everybody was dancing with the each other at the line of scrimmage?

I was reading so much about the lb core and how they liked to “hit.” Clearly….can’t hit what you can’t see; and when you do, the rb’s have already passed you bye.

When the dfensive players are in the back field, it disrupts what the offense wants to do, whether it’s to pass or hand-off to rb’s…..attack, attack!!!…..bwaaaahahaha!
