UH camp: Manu in, Brown out

Defensive end Veni Manu has been cleared to join the Warriors. He participated in the orientation sessions yesterday, the first day for first-year Warriors to report to training camp.

veni

Manu, who signed with the Warriors in February 2009, is a 2009 graduate of Mililani High. He did not attend college during the 2009 fall semester while trying to earn a higher SAT score. He met that requirement, then had to wait for Upper Campus officials to allow him to join the Warriors.

Meanwhile, the Warriors will be without strongside linebacker Aaron Brown for at least a week. Brown suffered a sprained right ankle while training. He was on crutches yesterday. The veteran players report today.

We need to be able to withstand initial impact, wrap up, and make tackles. We can’t allow 2nd- and 3rd-effort on the part of our opponents to turn into huge gains. I just hope we can keep injuries to a minimum, and not repeat the dance with the injury bug from last year.

  12. Garret August 4, 2010 3:54 am

It is great that Veni Manu was cleared in time so that he won’t miss any of the camp.

Bad news about Aaron Brown…but if he’s out just a week then that won’t be as bad as I had heard it might be.

  13. Garret August 4, 2010 3:58 am

About the puka in UH’s 2011 schedule, it appears that Texas A&M is trying to buy out of their game against SMU in 2011. Trouble is, UH already has nonconference games scheduled on 9/3, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, and 12/3…since UH would have played BSU during the conference part of the schedule, it is hard to get nonconference opponents then.

  14. Garret August 4, 2010 4:37 am

It is really sad that NCAA rules could forbid coaches from giving their condolences to the family of a recruit that passed away.

But when Smith died, the Broncos’ coaching staff was handcuffed by NCAA rules.

Because Smith had not signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) – signing day is in February – Boise State coaches could not comment on Smith.

They could not attend his funeral. They could not send flowers. They could not call his grieving parents or any other family members.

“There was nothing the school could do,” said Scott Hobbs, Boise State’s assistant athletic director for compliance.

    Good morning!

Cant make the practices, I guess I just got to wait for Game Time

  16. NYUH August 4, 2010 5:00 am

    Meant to include this..

“Anything less than a 30 point victory would be frowned upon in Kiffin’s first showing on the USC sideline as a head coach. If, somehow, the Trojans lose?

Kiffin may be sent packing as quick as Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy was removed from campus after the hearing.”

  17. RainbowCliff August 4, 2010 5:03 am

That is so disgraceful to the Boise State situation as you would THINK that the NCAA and it’s ridiculous rules could look BEYOND the athletic process and show condolences to the lost of human life !

There is more to LIFE then playing athletics and when that life becomes “a technical ruling” because of a greed governing body who may see that as “ILLEGAL tampering” then we are really missing the boat as “HUMANITARIANS” to what it really and should be all about about and that is LIFE and COMPASSION !

Shame on you NCAA as heartfelt condolences to the Smith family.

    SMU at Texas Tech

Tuberville’s debut will take place against the always tough Southern Methodist. Lead by June Jones, the Mustangs reached their first bowl game since 1984 in 2009 and return 18 starters. Because of that, the Red Raiders better come prepared week one or a loss will be added to Tuberville’s record right off the bat.

NYUH you are so RIGHT as that is why Kiffin is having closed practices, a tight lip on the criticism to his behavior and going after every opportunity he gets “REGARDLESS” if it’s ethical or not as he has to MAKE THIS WORK as too many bridges he has burned in the process as Colleges and the NFL don’t forget !

NEW School President, AD and BIG money boosters are watching with a keen eye as his “bulls eye” target is not hard to follow !

Great news on Manu and hope Aaron’s sprain heals within the next 2 weeks. I am sure there are people with knowledge on Oahu who know how to treat sprains and broken bones with herbs. Herbal treatment of sprains is far better than modern day treatments, so if any Tsaiko knows someone, they could pass the info on to the uh trainers.

    Good Morning Lux, er, Tom!

  34. Garret August 4, 2010 7:52 am

    NYUH,

This is what Jesse’s father posted on SportsHawaii in March:

    Has Coach Miano left UH?

UH Still have all our contact details, but we havent heard from them since Miano went to AWC last year, dont know what they want us to do, surely they dont exspect us to wait for them to deceide if they want Jesse!

From the begining i shook Mianos hand and promised, but the loyalty has to go both ways?

  35. Garret August 4, 2010 7:53 am

For those who do not know the background for Jesse, he is from Australia and UHi recruited him while JJ was the coach. He committed to UHwhile JJ was head coach and was supposed to start at UH in 2008. After JJ left, Mack asked Jesse to delay the start of his career by a year, so he would enter Hawaii in 2009. He wanted to only delay until January 2009, but Mack asked him to wait until August 2009. Then, shortly before he was supposed to enter UH, the admissions department realized that they had made a mistake in figuring out what one or two classes in Australia was equivalent to US high school classes.

UH had two years or so to go over his transcript and the admissions department didn’t act until it was too late. During those 2 years Jesse would have been able to take another class if one of the Australian classes did not satisfy some requirement…but by the time Jesse was rejected it was too late for him to go anywhere except for a JC.

Time and time again UH screws up, very bad publicity for us. JD needs to get this cleaned up. It’s bad not just for football but all the sports.

  44. Stephen Tsai August 4, 2010 8:35 am

    Recruiting is a tricky business.

It’s all about timing and situations.

And that could very well be the case with Jesse Williams.

As an incoming freshman, there are more opportunities than as a JC transfer.

I know UH recommends UH-friendly JCs to those who don’t qualify, but then it all goes back to need. The needs in 2009 are different from the needs in 2011.

And players are different two years later, too.

Gabe Tuata and Elija Lesu both went to JCs. Not sure whatever happened to either. There was a guy wearing a shirt that said “Elijah” during unsupervised workouts, but I was told his last name wasn’t Lesu.

Then there’s the case of David Garness, who was a walk-on in the spring of 2009, then transferred to City College of San Francisco. He made the All-America team, and recently announced he received an offer from USC. (Not sure if it was a scholarship offer or walk-on invitation.) Why he left UH remains a mystery, although he was not going to be offered a scholarship for 2009.

  45. homey ℞ August 4, 2010 8:38 am

    Go Wahine!

    Good morning everybody!

  46. Stephen Tsai August 4, 2010 8:39 am

In case anyone is wondering, Sterling Jackson is on the 105 list, but was told by UH officials there was a delay in his arrival. He should be in today, according to UH people.

Then again, I’ve seen various rosters, but, as I understand it, the 105 keeps changing. Some players who were asked to report for the first day of school might be added to the 105.

  47. gigi-hawaii August 4, 2010 8:40 am

ST, didn’t a recruit sue UH because UH reneged? Was his name David Smith? What happened to that lawsuit? Did they settle out of court?

  48. Stephen Tsai August 4, 2010 8:41 am

UH sports media relations director Derek Inouchi said he will release the training-camp roster at tomorrow’s first practice. I guess they’re trying to finalize numbers, or so they say.

But I did make a check list, stood by the elevators yesterday, and marked off names.

    Good Hump Day!!!

  50. wafan August 4, 2010 8:47 am

    The vets arrive today!!! Whoo-hoo!!!

Hope all remain healthy — Brown, too!

  51. Stephen Tsai August 4, 2010 8:52 am

    His name is Daniel Smith.

A financial settlement was reached in early June, although, as I understand it, final documents have not been signed.

Smith’s argument was that he was offered a scholarship, that because of that offer he turned down other opportunities, and that he was not notified the offer was rescinded until a couple of weeks before signing date, which was too late to find another school.

UH’s argument was that the coach who made the offer was not authorized to do so, that Smith did not do as well academically as he claimed, that oral commitments are not binding, and that the change of coaching staff negated any not-written offer.

As a result of this, UH now accompanies each offer with a letter of proof that an offer has been extended. However, the letter includes a clause that the offer may be withdrawn if it is not accepted in a timely manner. It does not specify what constitutes timely manner, however.

  52. Stephen Tsai August 4, 2010 8:54 am

  58. Stephen Tsai August 4, 2010 9:09 am

And David can go to Mack’s clinic.

  59. rage777 August 4, 2010 9:11 am

Those practice end times are all over the place. The players just know to show up at 8:30 or 3:30, but when the finish is a whole different story. Is this just to confuse them so the coaches can keep them later and the players don’t know it? Or is this for the sports reporters that can tell their editors that today was the late end time, not the early one?

  60. gigi-hawaii August 4, 2010 9:12 am

ST, that is a strong possibility. David might be able to get off work early and attend Mack’s clinic.

    Rage:

The players are locked up on campus (except for Sundays) during training camp.

It’s meetings, practice, meetings, lifting, meetings, repeat.

With all of those meetings, I think the players welcome practices, or what we like to refer to as “yard time.”

I was just thinking about ways to get the students interested in the sports programs, and thought of a simple cost effective way.

If you get Ka Leo to do biographies on all the student athletes, this might get the students more involved in sports. I remember when I found out that one of the men’s volleyball players was in the Engineering Dept, I started to cheer for him more and was aware of his playing career. If the biographies had stuff like: what classes do you like most, what is your major, where do you like to hang out, etc just to get them relatable to the students, that would help. It doesn’t take a lot of money because it’s free student help, just cost more to make the papers. It just can’t be limited to only the big name sports, include the tennis team, golf team, etc.

I also took a sociology class. I missed a Monday class, but showed up on a Wednesday. At the end of class, several players each were handed a sheet of paper. I asked the professor for a paper. He said it was only for the players. I asked about the paper. Professor admitted it was a take-home mid-term. Two essay questions. I said, so I work for the student newspaper …. The prof said, OK, you can have this paper, too.

do you still have Manoa Poi Pounders Tshirts for sale? David wants to buy more because they are durable and don’t shrink.

  105. Garret August 4, 2010 11:02 am

I’m glad that the NCAA is doing this.

Starting Thursday, college athletics’ governing body will attach academic ratings to coaches in basketball, football and four other Division I sports, launching an online database accessible to recruits, their parents, prospective employers and others who might value the information.

The first coaches’ APR portfolios will be posted in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and women’s indoor and outdoor track. Listings for coaches in all other Division I sports will be available next year.

Lennon says he hopes the ratings will become a source of bragging rights for high-scoring coaches as well as a reference for recruits and their families.

At the bookstore location they did have quality UH t’s on sale at $15 if anyone is interested.

#79 homey – Roberto Clemente IMHO was the best ever Pirate. I was at a game in Fobes Field, there was two on with one out, the batter hit a line drive single to right near the base line, Clemente fielded it and threw the runner out at homeplate on the fly. Was the greatest throw I have ever seen. Too bad he died so young, as surely he would have been up there with the greatest to ever play.

    Weird?

This was the last hotel I was expecting Priceline to dish out to me, since the rack rate was (and still is) way up there for a hotel of this caliber.

    Fellow Tsaikos,

Sorry for this off topic post but this is right down your alley…

A couple of my lady friends from Tokyo are visiting Honolulu in two weeks.

They’re looking for good restaurant for dinner in Waikiki or Kapahulu that they can walk to (they’re staying in a condo on the Zoo side of Waikiki). They said they don’t want a restaurant that’s too Japanese and too American (don’t know exactly what that means). I was going to suggest Sam Choy’s in Kapahulu but I was told that it’s no longer there. I’ve been away from the Islands too long to offer any suggestions…Please help (al, Gigi, SteveM, ST and any and all others)…Many thanks….

  129. tom mui August 4, 2010 1:15 pm

K Sstate was supposed to play Oregon, by mutual agreement they no longer will play. Oregon is rumored to be seeking a game with LSU and K State wants a win to build their program and qualify for a bowl. K State is a good match for UH, both struggling in different ways. K State plays in the Big 12 and its been tough on them to win 6 games to qualify for a bowl game.

Hi 22Tokyo. I just got back from an ophthalmologist appointment. Glad you got many good replies to your restaurant question. I think the Kaimana suggestion by Roysan16 (post 200) might fit the bill–but for bills in my budget, Rainbow Drive Inn is great. 🙂 I suggest they check out the International Market Place too–probably closer to their hotel and a lot of interesting food shops, although I have not been there for a few years..

  209. Ipu Man August 4, 2010 4:31 pm

If I remember, referees had a lot to do with UH losses to USC…

    Who will referee this time?

    Hmmmmm???

  210. SteveM August 4, 2010 4:31 pm

Peaches and I once spent New Year’s eve at the Kaimana. Couldn’t get dinner reservatios to the Hau Tree or Miyako restaurant. Tried Michel’s next door…at least the maitre’d didn’t laugh. Paid the valet $15 to get my car out of hock and ended up at Kapahulu Chop Suey.

But I do think the Kaimana Hau Tree is a good spot. Managed to get breakfast there.

  212. d1島 August 4, 2010 5:07 pm

    I-Man,

    ??? 😕

    Referees?

    Really?

  213. Ralph August 4, 2010 5:27 pm

when the other team puts up 60+ points on the board it’s usually dominance, superior athleticism and size easily beat the big heart that laid everything on the field.

  214. Ipu Man August 4, 2010 5:44 pm

Remember when June Jones fake kick?

The refs called UH offsides or something illegal.

    And June was really angry…

And the replay really did not show anyone offsides…

  215. LizKauai (iPad) August 4, 2010 5:49 pm

    22Tokyo- I recommend Duke’s. It’s the Hawaii experience for a visitor.

Whitey- sorry the coolers were empty. I guess that means we’re having a lot of red meat at the T-Gate instead of seafood. Hey. Hope someone is bringing some bambi this year!

  216. chopsueyboy August 4, 2010 5:50 pm

    #215 Ipu Man

    at USC

Wasn’t it on 4th down, a fake punt…pass to the wideout

and the referees didn’t call the interference that would have given us a first down?

USC return team was jamming our guy at the line of scrimmage

  217. chopsueyboy August 4, 2010 5:50 pm

I think June before the game advised the referee crew to watch out for it and they still blew the call (or just ate their whistle)

  218. Garret August 4, 2010 6:08 pm

I always thought that was a classic example of JJ going for a fake kick that ended up hurting the team…and then years later I heard about how they saw on film that the USC defender would interfere with the UH receiver if UH tried a fake punt. So, it should have been called a penalty and should have worked.

The refs also missed a fumble call that even the pro-USC announcers said was a horrible call and resulted in a TD for USC when the game was close.

However, USC was definitely the better team and would probably have won that game anyway. UH needed everything to go right…but those 2 blown calls by the refs did not go UH’s way.

  219. Garret August 4, 2010 6:10 pm

Unfortunately for RGM, he’s *still* not recovered from the injury he suffered early in camp.

Receiver Ryan Grice-Mullen (leg) returned to practice on a limited basis.

  220. Garret August 4, 2010 6:11 pm

My other post is awaiting moderation, so I’ll post it again.

RGM’s hope to make the Dolphins is to earn the returner role. One of Miami’s top returner is now out for the season.

Second-year running back Kory Sheets, perhaps the team’s fastest player, tore his right Achilles tendon during today’s morning practice and is out for the season, a league source confirmed.

The Dolphins had been considering Sheets their fourth running back and, more importantly, their kick-return speci alist to replace Ted Ginn Jr., who was traded.

    22Tokyo,

J likes Bogart’s Cafe on Monsarrat Ave. for breakfast.

I love Your Kitchen on 10th Ave. for the Fujiyama shaved ice bowl! Green tea & adzuki bean ice cream under a mountain of shaved ice drenched in green tea syrup, with a scoop of adzuki beans on the side and a drizzle of condensed milk.

LizKauai’s reference to Duke’s is a good one. Ask for the GM Dillon Ching (USD Football) and say aloha for us. I’ll see him Friday night with some paddlers coming in from Maui for the State races.

    DPK, roysan16, SteveM, LizKauai, Homey…

Thank you for the suggestions….the mention of Rainbows Drive Inn makes me homesick….

  224. Ipu Man August 4, 2010 6:26 pm

I’m not knocking refs just biased ones.

Will the refs be USC alumni and/or PAC 10 refs?

    Or WAC refs?

Didn’t other schools “demand” their own refs when they

come here to play? That’s big boy BS…

  225. A-House August 4, 2010 6:41 pm

    Ipu Man:

I’m with you on the blown calls against UH playing USC.

another was an incomplete pass that the side judge called a fumble for a TD – even the ESPN announcers could not believe the call – replay after replay showed the bad call and the refs face looking like, what the hell did I just do, but I not going to reverse myself. UH was leading USC 14 – 13, I believe and lost the game.

Another case is when UH played BYU and the head ref was a “Deacon” of the Mormon Church. I asked my Mormon friend, in truth, will Jack make a call against BYU? No answer, but to my surprise, in later games, Jack was no longer officiating any UH vs. BYU games. No different if the ref was Catholic and making a call against Notre Dame. NO WAY!!!

  226. A-House August 4, 2010 6:45 pm

    whitey:

that’s why Congress is looking into “taxing” revenues from excess bagage or luggage charge since the airlines, combined, in 2009 grossed $2.7 Billion and none of it was taxable. that is a lot of kala!!!

I keep asking duffer, but no response because the Lear jet must be yours. Planning to use it to come over and join us at a tailgate in 2010?

  227. A-House August 4, 2010 6:47 pm

BTW, we have notified our relatives, on Mrs A-House side, that our annual New Years party at our house ( 2011 ) may be pushed back a week to allow us to go to a BCS bowl game – just like 2007/08. Only diff was we told them in Feb 2007!

  228. Ipu Man August 4, 2010 6:47 pm

btw, I think Keo’s small store on beretania finally closed.

Tho I think their Lao grocery store is still someplace nearby.

And lots of Japanese (and Chinese) seem to enjoy the

all you can eat buffet ($9 lunch) at “Smorgeys” at the old

Willows garden restaurant on Kuhio and Kaiulani (where the

old movie theatre used to be). Food is so-so but better than

Kentucky fried chicken. And all the Lion coffee and soft drinks

you can drink. You can top it off with a dish of ice cream

with fudge and nuts on top of chocolate coconut cake…

  229. A-House August 4, 2010 6:49 pm

Watching the Okie, must give nod to Vince, but credit Tyson for a very good effort – looks like a good decision by the Jags to pick Alualu early!

  230. A-House August 4, 2010 6:53 pm

Why is it that fans can see so many blantant violations from afar and the ref, who is on the field, cannot when its right in front of his nose?

Is each ref concentraing only on what is described as his responsbility on evey play. Are refs that “territorial”?

  231. Ipu Man August 4, 2010 6:57 pm

Leahy and Leahy had a “good” local ref on last week….

I suppose it is like in The Wizard of Oz:

UH researchers say that the Leeward side of Hawaiian Islands may be ideal for future ocean-based renewable energy plants that would use seawater from the ocean to drive massive heat engines and produce steady amounts of renewable energy. Placing a heat engine between warm water collected at the ocean’s surface and cold water from the deep ocean, the heat flows from the warm reservoir to the cool one to spin a turbine and generate electricity.

Clearwire is aggressively trying to get iPhone, iPad, and iTouch users away from AT&T. For $25 per month, a customer can get *4G* (WiMAX) data service (3-6 Mbps downlink) for *8* WiFi-enabled Apple mobile devices! That is much less than the $40/month normal Clearwire customers pay and Apple customers don’t even need to sign a contract. AT&T offers no-contract plans at 200 MB $15/month or 2GB for $25/month per device…Clearwire will give unlimited data access to 8 Apple devices for $25/month!

22Tokyo: besides those restaurants mentioned, there are others in the Kapahulu area —Pyramids for Middle Eastern Fuud, Ono Hawaiian Fuud, Kaopahulu Poi Shop, Haili’s Hawaiian Fuud, Irifune for Island/oriental fuud, a new Soul/Cagun restaurant just opened about a month or so ago, Waiola Shave Ice just across Genki, Leonards for the malasada experience, Burgers on the Edge for gourmet hamburger, Safeway Deli and fuud buffet, an Indian restaurant in the shopping complex next to where the old Alex Drive-in used to be, in the Market City complex (Fuudland) Toritos Mexican, Gina’s Korean, Formaggio’s wine bar/restaurant, Cafe Pho, Duck Lee. The others are ramen shops, izakayas, or Japanese oriented.

  255. d1島 August 4, 2010 10:21 pm

    22Tokyo,

OK, here’s da scoops on The Ranch House…

    Pretty good stuff.

Opted not to go for the house favorite Prime Rib and went with the Garlic Roast Pork. Mild garlic flavor and very tender and juicy.

Mrs. d1島 had the Misoyaki Butterfish. Generous portion and she enjoyed it (aka no doggie bag 😉 )

#2 son had the Mongolian Braised Short Ribs that he had a hard time in deciding if he liked better than the braised short ribs from Roy’s. In the end he gave a very slight edge to Roy’s.

I started off with the Cream of Hamakua Mushroom soup which I let Mrs. d1島 sample but then advised her to get her own bowl since I wasn’t gonna surrender any more! (which she did and really enjoyed)

Also was advised by others at our table that the Prime Rib and sauteed shrimp was excellent and that the Chicken Fried Steak was done using Prime Rib, too!

Didn’t really see anyone eating spaghetti or meat loaf and Lo and Behold! you didn’t need to be a Pedestrian because the Valet actually parked our car!

  256. Kekoa (iPhone) August 4, 2010 10:35 pm

D-1 ~ The table service, and the ‘live’ music was excellent. Our hostess provided us with great conversation and lots of laughs!

Most mixed food choices I’ve ever seen! Extensive wine list, and was too full to try Mama’s bread pudding.

    Thank you Julie!

…or york jao… I use a linament (when I can get it) made by a man in Hong Kong who developed it for bruises and sprains from kung fu fighting/exercises. I recently got some in oil form and my Mom is using it. It’s White Crane oil or linament. Only made by this one man in Hong Kong. When I was searching for it in Hong Kong, years ago, each Chinese medicine store sold their own formula. So, if you find one, you usually have to buy it from the same source. I have a recipe for my goong goong’s linament which also worked, but I don’t think it was as good as this White Crane formula that my husband found when he was doing kung fu in SF.

But d1, ice cream makes everything taste better. As yes, as good as that Rogue Hazelnut Brown is, ice cream can make (most) anything taste heavenly. 🙂

The last time I went to the Ranch House in Aina Haina- sometime back in the late 1980s – I was disconcerted to find that they’d added karaoke to their offerings. Hope that the current version is k-free.

Did anyone else get a copy in the (real) mail of the premiere issue of INSIDE OUT, mostly written by ex-Honolulu Advertiser staffers. Lots of stories about local food & entertainment AND favortie travel destinations plus beautiful pictures. The advertising is particularly scrumdiddlieumptious. Almost enough to make me fall off the veggiebubblion wagon.

Has anyone here eaten breakfast at Giovanni Pastrami in Waikiki? They’re featuring football breakfasts & are encouraging booster clubs to attend. IF, and that’s important, the food is good, perhaps this might be a good place to try for one of the away games?

Will Murphy’s be serving food on Saturdays during the day for away games?

Will try to take a sneak peak at Saturday’s football practice while doing the Manoa Makeover thing. Looking forward to it. I LOVE to paint!!!

Bought an iPod three weeks ago, but I still haven’t used it because I can’t figure out how to download music.

Still haven’t figured out how to send e-mails and text messages on my iPhone either nor have I taken photos or videos or used any of the apps other than the ones for the phone & receiving e-mails. I bought a instructional book and have gone to several training classes, but once I leave the room, the information disappears from my brain.

i agree with annodah dave that kapahulu ave is loaded with great eateries.

some my favorites that he missed are:

tokkuri tei: sushi bar, izakaya the place is jam packed nightly especially fri/sat. get valet parking (no ask me where they park your car) so no be shy. broke mout’ stuff. very cold beer and warm sake.

mr. oji-san: tiny place great food. sukiyaki for two is the bomb.

tenkaippin: little ramen shop next to starbuck rocks. new flavor. owner’s have their own japanese show on oc16. always crowded…good sign. ice #2. this little joint serves some of the best sushi and sashimi. also, the reg menu is ono. pig feet soup to die for. byob makes it affordable.

side street inn #2: just opened. over flow crowds…go figga.

rainbow drive inn: mixed plate gravy all over!

    …nuff said

  266. SteveM August 5, 2010 1:03 am

    RE: #263

WassupDoc — why did you buy an iPod when you already have an iPhone? An iPhone is also an iPod…and a iTouch/iPad, camera, and finally, a phone too.

In my opinion, first master a PC or iMac version of iTunes (as Mad Dog says in post #264). PC or Mac email and attachments plus iPhoto on the Mac will make two more iPhone pieces puzzle fall into place. Digital camera use is another puzzle piece. Then there’s all those darn useful apps, which is another piece.

I’m a slow adapter and have considered the iPhone (or any smart phone) the very top of the tech skills hierarchy…although one need only master the puzzle piece they want to use the most. 🙂 I am finally getting one…and so is my 82 year old mom. 🙂

And what waz that great Hawaiian restaurant across the street

    …Kanack Attack???

  273. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc August 5, 2010 1:53 am

I bought an iPod because my iPhone is too bulky and too heavy to carry around when I’m working out. I also got the version which receives FM radio broadcasts since I want to be able to listen o KHPR/KIPO and the classic rock stations – as well as the radio broadcasts while attending sporting events at The Stan.

Even though I never thought that I had big hands & fat fingers, I simply cannot use the iPhone keypad. I wind up poking each key separately with my right index finger to try to reduce the errors. I think since I got it back in May, I probably have sent maybe as many as ten e-mails or text messages.

What I need is a full-time IT person to run my gizmos for me.

Dumb person with a Smart Phone – maybe that’s how to solve the economic doldrums.

it’s 2 am – I have to be on the road four hours from now so best I head off to bed.

Anyone have photos at Tasty Chop Suey with family or friends

that has the Tasty Chop Suey logo showing on the dishes?

Parent’s restaurant selected by Smithsonian Institute to be part of an exhibit

that shows how chinese restaurants are a part of American history.

They’re in the process of collecting items from New York, San Francisco, and Honolulu

and chose Lau Yee Chai, Wo Fat, & Tasty Chop Suey to represent Hawaii.

We’ve located some dishes, chop sticks, menu, newspaper article celebrating 20th anniversary, key chains, coin purses, and photos, but looking for more items.

chopsueyboy: Got to look at our wedding pictures – Golden Anniversary next year!

Our reception was at Lau Yee Chai – the old one on Kalakaua and Kuhio where the Ambassador Hotel now stands. I think Me P.Y. Chong was still the owner/chief cook

Good morning…happy 4-week countdown, Tsaikos. (J)J – doesn’t yok jao have “shelf life?” What does “still have a few bottles from my Popo?” mean? I wonder if that thing is like wine and keeps getting better as the years go by? Gosh, I can just smell that thing now…my sinuses are clearing!

al – I have heard that new Side Street is just packed each night. And now you got me craving for izakaya and Tokkuri-Tei. 🙂

ST msut be very busy on the 1st day of practice and we will have to wait until practice over to get a new post up.

Interesting that 2 “new” name appear on the 105 list. Were they part of the group to “join the team” on first day of school?
