Realistically, does anyone here on this blog believe that the warrior football team will have a winning season?……To tell you the truth, I definitely believe it will be another losing season for the warriors. There’s just no excitement anymore with the team. They have gone down in the dumps…Sad isn’t it????

Just checked the blog before going out for my morning walk, and exercise. Almost 6am now. Barbara and I can no longer go for our morning dips in Waikiki. We are ffffffaaaaaqarrrrrrrrrrr from the Pacific Ocean now!

It’s noisy living right in town. We used to think hearing the train horn blow down the hill from my house in AZ was a little noisy. I never minded it, but these sirens get me up out of bed sometimes.

we’re 3 games ahead of Sac State and last place in WAC baseball, and 1 game ahead of SJST, a team we play this week. Four crucial games, we need at least one to finish ahead of Sac State, down to the wire like last season final series.

We seem to be battling the wrong end of the WAC standing, rather than for the regular season championship, we are battling to stay out of last place.

I’m sorry if I upset you in yesterday’s blog. I thought you were making predictions on where MWC teams might end up. I *do* see Utah and BYU possibly leaving the MWC like you said. TCU will definitely try to get to the Big 12, but their best hope is that some other big-money conference wants a TV footprint in Texas. There is even the chance that the Big 12 might want the TV sets in Colorado and take Colorado State or Air Force (but I’m guessing Louisville and Memphis are more likely).

Back from my morning walk. Regarding the summer heat: I have not heard any comments yet about the impending summer heat. I guess it will be about the norm for this area. Record highs would be around 113, with lows in the 70s.

Yes, we are investigating two community centers that are relatively nearby. You have to become members, paying somewhere around $15 for a year membership. They have pools plus other activities, like painting, sewing, etc.

I remember our apartment on Kalakaua Avenue, near Fort DeRussey. We heard sirens practically every day. Surprisingly, the road noise was not bad with the lanai door closed at the 12th floor level.

Here in Arlington, TX, our neighborhood is generally very quiet. I think all of my neighbors are younger than we are so they go to work….. Several of the neighbors have younger children, like say 3 out of 20 neighbors. Almost never hear any sirens.

Banowsky revealed Monday that C-USA looked last year at the possibility of adding four teams as preemptive expansion, sending the idea up to the school presidents for consideration. Though the idea was eventually shot down, the league will continue to consider its options, especially as it renegotiates its television contract.

The WAC profit sharing plan that ST posted yesterday was just *his* idea. It has not been adopted by the WAC! In fact, I pointed out that the WAC adopted a rule that was basically the exact opposite of one of the things he suggested.

For going to a BCS game, the WAC’s new rule gives them $3 million *before* expenses. So, they will make far less profit by going to a BCS game than if they were in the MWC. If they go to a BCS game every single year in the WAC, they will make less money than the difference between the MWC’s TV money and the WAC’s TV money. The MWC has lower travel expenses, higher NCAA basketball revenue, and could get an automatic BCS spot starting in 2012.

So, BSU would get 3 or 4 times *more* money by joining the MWC and not making a BCS game than they would make if they went to a BCS game every year in the WAC. UH would actually LOSE money if they made a BCS game and had to go to the Orange Bowl. All of the other WAC schools would make a lot of money from UH making their next BCS bowl and UH would lose money…does that rule make sense?

The argument about BCS bowl money for the WAC has been completely eliminated by the new rule that Karl Benson and the WAC Presidents passed that gives half of the BCS money to the WAC schools that don’t make a BCS bowl. The WAC basically covers that expenses for people going to a BCS bowl (schools on the mainland might make a little profit, UH might lose a little money) and gives the BCS money to the teams *not* getting to the BCS game.

garret since you have done lots of research on this what is the best senerio for UH and what other alternative are there for UH to ponder. sorry if you posted some info on this already

since the only time that UH went to the BCS game, it seems like everybody and their family that worked for UH got a free ride to the game. what is the policy for UH should it go again in the future or do we even have a policy. maybe only those directly dealing with football and 1 guest allowed or something similar? any ideas on this? any policy? the time that we did go, it seems like fermain hrasier or UH didn’t have one and anybody within the school that wanted to go could go on UH’s tab.

BCS bowl “expenses” could be lower if UH does not bring all the “unnecessary” hanger-ons!

We are not privy to “who were the invited guests” to the Sugar Bowl and makes it difficult to wean out those who really should go to those who want the status of going at UH expense. I believe, and I apologize if I an incorrect, that several were “big” boosters of NaKoa. I don’t like and play politics so my first priority is those who really should go then “add” on those who really have a vested interest in going.

Upper campus, IMHO, does not really support athletics, at least I have yet to see the President and other high administrative type speak out to support athletics, so why should they be invited free of charge?

Also, what are the Bowl mandatory functions and who must attend? If so, then the Bowl should be responsible for their expenses; ie, UH President and Mrs.

For me, reduce the number going free to maximize profit for UH. If upper campus really wanted to help support UHAD, then politely refuse an invitation so allocation to “lower campus” can be reduced.

But, what do I know????????

thanks Garret. i was hoping you would respond. so, as far as you know, we still don’t have a policy? shouldn’t this be done with since UH is a public institution? we probably won’t be going soon anyway, but with BSU out, our chances will improve. its nice to know that we do have one just in case. what about the basketball team? if we make the big dance or even the final 4. do we wait until the last minute? i don’t really like people getting a free ride if they had very little to do with a particular sport.
with the softbows playing in the regionals, will they be compensated? a few years ago, didn’t they make it to the finals? what was their compensation? i hope with the popularity of softball on the rise and numerous tv appearences throught out the nation, the program can actually make money (bracelets?). If they are compensated, maybe a payoff similar to the basketball tournament but, obviously on a smaller scale.

Re-Kia’s contract

ST wrote that Kia signed a “one year contract” in yesterday’s blog. He also wrote an article on Kia’s signing in today’s paper.

Another paper’s writer wrote that Kia signed a “free-agent” contract.

My question is a “one year contract” the same as a “free-agent contract”?

Honestly, I’m confused. Because it seems to me that two different sources are reporting two different types of contracts that Kia signed. Or at least that’s how I interpret this. Hey maybe I’m wrong, but I was hoping to get some clarification.

Would a player signing a one year contract have a lock on making the team?

Would Satele, which was reported here of a signing a three year contract, be a lock on making the team, too?

Kazz # 67. speaking of fake UH merchandise, wouldn’t it be easier or profitable if you buy t-shirts, sweat shirts, etc. from a high school with the same logo as UH then go around selling them at the tailgate parking lot for a profit. you wouldn’t be infringing on UH’s rights because you are selling it as a high school’s merchandise. at UH’s store it’s really expensive.

Congrats on a great year and bringing Men’s VB back into the spotlight.
Hopefully we can convince the great local players to stay home. We’ve got good talent here as shown by what left the islands and played against us. They’re just down the road.

Is there any plans to bid to host another Final Four here? We just missed out on playing in it, which impacted the fan turnout for the teams that did make it, but now that we’ve got the program righted and steaming ahead, it would be great to host and win it in our own arena just like that team in red did.

speaking of compensation, what compensation, it any, do we get for WAC playoff games? or does it go to the WAC office. some playoffs in the WAC are on TV. do we get anything from that or does the WAC use it to pay for the teams’ accommodations and travel? what about the MPSF volleyball playoffs? all these comments on the blog just got my dormant mind wondering.

I don’t condone or respect anyone doing this as this is ultimately illegal.

I think Hightower High School didn’t make any color alterations to OUR logo so they are infringing on copyrights, especially if they are being sold for profit for Hightower High School.

Still, anyone doing exactly what you described should be locked up or at least forced to eat and pay for Aloha Stadium food.

The Buti Groove company is/was smart. They cashed in on the UH football craze with their brand of plain green shirts with big white lettering that said: “BUCK FOISE” or “RUSH THE FIELD”. Later they released the “BOWS BFOR HOS” shirts which were also on a green shirt with a black and white rainbow in the corner.

Everyone knew what they meant and they didn’t have to pay a UH licensing fee as no H logos or “Hawaii” in the tapa font were used.

of the twin towers that are coming in, one of the shane’s is projected as potentially another great outside hitter as opposed to middle blocker. will you have both of the 6’8″ shanes compete for the two vacant middle positions or will you work with a guy like steve hunt to see if he could fulfill one of the middle blocker spots?

Under the new BCS agreement (which Karl Benson and the WAC were one of the first to sign and the MWC was the last to sign), all of the non-AQ conferences are basically treated as one AQ conference. AQ Conferences get $18 million or so to split up among their members each year and they normally give their conference champion that plays in a BCS bowl a bonus from that to cover expenses and give them a reward for playing in a BCS game. People kept saying that Georgia earned $17 million for the Sugar Bowl while UH earned $4.5 million, which was WRONG. Georgia’s cut of the Sugar Bowl’s money was actually less than what UH got for playing in the same game.

All of the non-AQ conferences get $9 million to split up among themselves. They decided on a formula to split up the money, part of which is based on nonconference wins. So, the MWC gets a bigger share of that $9 million than the WAC.

If a non-AQ team makes a BCS bowl (under the new BCS contract that has happened every year since things are set up to let at least one non-AQ team in every year), the non-AQ conferences get another $9 million. $6 million of that money (I’m rounding all the numbers here so I don’t need to provide decimal places) goes to the conference of the team. That is why I say that the WAC gives $3 million to the team playing in a BCS bowl and splits the other $3 million among its members. The other $3 million goes to the *other* non-AQ conferences–for example, UH got something like $100k from TCU’s Fiesta Bowl money last year.

If an AQ Conference gets a second team in a BCS bowl, their conference get $4.5 million. So, when Georgia played in the Sugar Bowl against UH, they earned $4.5 million for their conference and had to split that money with their conference. If a second non-AQ team earns a BCS spot (like BSU last year), the lower rated team earns $4.5 million for their conference. See, the new BCS contract treats all the non-AQ teams like they are an AQ conference.

Let me sum things up:
$9 million is split among the WAC, MWC, MAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt. Conferences that win more nonconference games get a bigger share.

$9 million goes to the non-AQ conferences if one non-AQ team makes a BCS bowl.
$3 million would go to a WAC team that makes the bowl
$3 million would be split by the WAC schools
$3 million would go to the other non-AQ conferences

The old system gave $4.5 million to the WAC team and $1.5 million was split among the WAC schools.

If a second non-AQ team makes a BCS bowl, the lower ranked team earns $4.5 million for their conference. If that is a WAC team:
$3 million would go to the WAC team
$1.5 million would be split by the WAC schools.

So, last year $22.5 million went to the non-AQ conferences, more than most AQ conferences got from the BCS. UH got their share of the guaranteed $9 million, their share of TCU’s $9 million, and their share of BSU’s $4.5 million.

Hopefully I summarized things okay and haven’t confused more people.

Read your explanation #108 and still wondering why an AQ conference is alloted $17 million and a “non-AQ” conference gets $9 million (such as the Sugar Bowl UH attended).

One would think that both schools, regardless if AQ or non-AQ, qualified for the bowl game and receive equal benefits; ie, payout $$$.

Under this formula, the AQ schools always get the “larger” share nothwithstanding how much the particpating school received. Since the SEC schools make so much $$$ from TV contract, they really don’t care how much they spend to attend the BCS bowl game whereas non-AQ schools must contend with large expenses which, as I stated earlier, can be mitigated by controlling how many “school” individuals attend the game.

For the Sugar Bowl, it is most unfortunate that UH medical staff were told that some cannot go or pay their own way whreas others who had NO connection with the football team got a free ride. It would take a tremendous amount of loyalty for these to keep their afflilication with UH.

Garret / A-House / Al – You should have heard our fearless WAC commissioner on the Bobby Curran show this morning. It appeared that he had no proactive thoughts in place (like C-USA you posted above). His line of thinking wavered between…”hopefully nothing really happens”, but if it does, “then we add teams like Idaho and San Jose before”. Well to the relief of everyone, he mentioned that Southern Utah is not a potential candidate, but we’ll be all over Cal Poly, UC Davis, Sacramento State and Montana. Wonderful. What about the California fiscal crisis and its impact on the necessary transition for these FCS programs? “Well, the investment to upgrade to FBS can come from both institutional and private investment.” Wonderful.

He was quite well versed on what it takes for an FCS school to move up to FBS status (as that seems to be the focus of his “worst case scenario” efforts). Even Bobby couldn’t hide his disgust for this line of thinking and I thought he always supported Benson before.

We need to be proactive on this and this is way above JD’s level. I’m hoping/praying that Chancellor Hinshaw and President Greenwood are figuring out how to get off the leaking boat. Karl seems to already have his lifeboat in place, or he’s oblivious to all signs of a sinking ship (c’mon…he has to be smarter than that, no??). Top 10 local recruits…think they’d be excited about playing against Montana/Sac State/UC Davis/Cal Poly/Utah State/Idaho/NMSU/San Jose State? Should I go to Oregon State/PAC 10 or Hawaii/WAC…hmmm. Conference affiliation and opponents undoubtedly do make a big difference for many recruits. We have a hard enough time with this WAC membership…a watered down version (again)…uuhhgg. I’d like to think that our program deserves better than this, rather than accepting this as our future. All this just 2nds Al’s same thoughts from yesterday. We’ve grown this thing so much from the Termite Palace days…gotta do whatever it takes to keep it going.

BSU earned $4.5 million from the Fiesta Bowl. They kept $3 million (most of that paid for their expenses) and the $1.5 million was shared among the WAC schools. *None* of the other non-AQ conferences got anything from that $4.5 million.

TCU earned $9 million from the Fiesta Bowl. The MWC kept $6 million and the other 4 non-AQ conferences split the other $3 million.

It is better for a non-AQ conference to have *their* teams in a BCS game since the conference gets more than if another non-AQ conference gets a team in the BCS game. However, all non-AQ teams get some money from the BCS, a share of the guaranteed $9 million and a share of the $9 million from the first non-AQ team.

If you add up the TV deals of the 5 non-AQ conferences, it comes out to a *tiny* fraction of the TV money that the SEC or Big 10 get. However, the non-AQ conferences got more money from the BCS than many of the AQ conferences last year. It can easily be argued that the non-AQ conferences got *more* than they actually earned from the BCS…that is the benefit of all the complaining about the BCS by the non-AQ teams.

I was hoping to catch those first five or so questions about recruiting :(.

The difference between have and have nots. They took the time and spent the monies to get to where they are so to them the spoils should go.
Any one wanting to get to “play” then make the commitment to bring the program up to snuff. Only thing is we are in a very small venue and can’t possibly expect to generate the kind of revenue like the big boys.
I don’t think we should be expecting to be like “them”. The other conferences can realign all they want but with the kind of power and influence the big conferences have built up we will be spinning our wheels. The only solution I can see is if the big conferences are split up and the so call power conferences aren’t allowed to continue “harvesting” schools out of other conferences. MWC was born because there was issues with programs wanting to go and get stronger and other issues. Funny that they would want to take schools that were originally left out of their initial plans now.

I really think we all need a 16 team playoff to break up the bcs, the winner of each conference in and four at large. use the existing bowls that would be 13 bowl games. Then the rest of the bowls could still have their own games. But I doubt that I’ll see that in my life time. LOL

Bobby Curran has been screaming this phrase for the past few weeks now and he is completely right when he says “collegiality” (is that a word?) is DEAD in the NCAA, most notably college football and then basketball to an extent, but mostly college football.

It wasn’t too long ago the college game provided more of a sense of “purity” away from the professional game filled with stories of contract disputes/rookie holdouts and cash incentives. The further along it progresses, college football will be a shell of it’s former noble self in that it is about the spirit of competition.

In all honesty, we see this every where. Money and greed has ruined it all. Women’s volleyball is headed in that direction and before we know it, even the real non-revenue sports will be there too.

Who would of thought that fascism and bureaucracy would take hold of athletic competition.

I think we, as a society, are to blame. I said it before. We, as a society, have placed a very high price tag on pro sports, and now college sports, that it cannot go back and the terms like “sportsmanship” are nothing but a cliché just ripe for marketing dollars.

Hangover? You drank 8 bottles of cough syrup?

Again I have stayed away from even joining in on the conversation of “what if” should the Big Ten expand and the domino effect starts.

Worst case scenario, besides the effect on our football D1 status or conference competition, I want people to take away the excitement that Wahine volleyball has brought us over the decades, take away the pride of being there for Dave Shoji’s 1000th win, the pride of an NCAA Men’s Volleyball National Title, the pride of a blue-collar program like the Rainbow Wahine softball team destroying NCAA records and upsetting bigger teams, etc…

Take all that away. Just imagine.

At this time our Wahine softball team is enroute to Palo Alto to continue their journey in the NCAA regionals and hopefully beyond and I find it eerie that all these discussions of what the worst case scenario for UH athletics is implying. Death to our non-revenue sports if the worst case scenario brings us to DII? Really it is implying DEATH to the student athletes and their supporters.

Personally I have made it a choice to follow and support UH athletics the way I do. It is a choice I gladly make. It’s a part of my life and the lives of others. So yes I and many others should take it personally.

When all these conference shifts are taking place based on “business decisions”, the personal effects on the lives of thousands and possibly millions of collegiate athletes and their supporters hang in the balance. Do the “bigs” care? No and why should they? It’s just business and nothing personal right?

It’s fascism and greed at it’s finest.

I’m not so naïve to say we should continue the approach we currently have. We must win and our conference needs to be proactive. Listening to Karl Benson on 1420 this morning reminded me of a lit match in charge of dynamite. No more playing the victim. If they wanna play dirty, let’s get _____ DIRTY!!!

I think the way UH is handling the whole H-logo situation with Hightower HS is just plain ridiculous. We should feel flattered that high schools like our logo enough to use it. I sure am. I remember when we first used the logo at Hawaii, we took a lot of heat for it. UH isn’t the only team that high schools “borrow” logos from. USC’s, Florida’s, Florida St., Michigan, even our galloping Mustang at SMU is used by many teams throughout the country. UH is the only school making a big deal out of it. If they are selling University of Hawaii merchandise without permission, that’s one thing. But using the logo for the HS? Come on.

Gosh, the breaking news up here made it sound pretty bad in some of the areas.

Monopoly? Fascism? Do you know that the *majority* of D-IA teams are in AQ conferences? Expansion could mean that up to 75% of D-IA teams would be in AQ conferences. Does that sounds like just a few schools are keeping all the money?

The BCS set rules that allow conferences to move up and become AQ conferences if they win. The MWC is close to doing that. Is it the BCS’s fault that SDSU increased the Athletic Fee twice recently to upgrade athletics and went from $1 million from the students to $10 million from their students for Athletics? All this happened in the past 5 years or so…UH has been talking about a student fee all that time.

Is it the BCS’s fault that the public wants to watch Florida, Texas, USC, or even Utah and TCU far more than they want to watch any WAC team without the initials BSU? How did BSU get so popular with ESPN and the viewing public even though their state population is comparable to Hawaii? They won on the field.

It seems that people want publicly funded Universities to turn down money that they have earned and donate it to school that did not proactively build their programs. That really does sound like Communism without any incentive to improve. That model is far closer to Communism than the current system could be considered fascism.

I agree with Kazz that it is horrible that softball and other nonrevenue sports are dependent on football and men’s basketball to survive. The problem with that is that all those other sports LOSE MONEY. Softball loses a LOT of money for UH. The public does NOT care enough to have the TV rights be worth any money and they cannot charge anything for fans to go to the games. So, those sports have to be subsidized since if we were just looking at money those sports (including the excellent tennis team, swimming, etc.) would be cut. So, you want other schools to give poorly run Athletic Departments (under HF there was NO other description) money that they need to be able to afford to subsidize *their* nonrevenue sports? They would end up having to cut sports…that would mean the immediate end to men’s volleyball as an NCAA sport for one thing.

Garret you right most viewer’s would like to watch a game batween high profile programs, USC, TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, MICHIGAN..etc. It’s when they all get together to capture the market and make it exclusive and force other schools to down grade programs and the quality of the conferences. Then what they do impact other programs. BC had some discussion this morning. Like you said, “Just win” but we all know this won’t be possible for everyone. Even if it was possible, the networks will still be positioned with certain conferences only. There was more excitement for me when one power conference team met another power conference team instead of within the same conference. One man’s opinion.

When a team is barely over .500, there are no throw away games, we got to win to develop a winning mind set and program. We need the wins for respect for the program, we need it for the University, the bows fans, and to make UH attractive as a conference member that can put out competitive teams in all sports.

I think with respects to being unique. Of course it is. But so is USC’s TrojanHead logo, Texas’ Longhorn logo, FSU’s Spear, Michigan’s Winged Helmet…etc… all are unique logos which HS’ normally “borrow” because the kids want to have uniforms that they can admire. I know MLB logos have some kind of clause, but this is the first time I’ve heard of a copyright issue from a college. There are a number of teams here that use an exact copy of SMU’s Mustang logo, but I doubt that the HS pays for the use it.

D1 you got to be visionary, see the future; yeah I know, the immediate goal is to qualify for the WAC but got to look at the total package. It’s tough to recruit players to a losing or struggling program, we wonder why our best HS players want to go away-baseball, football, mvb, winning keeps things in perspective and makes HS players want to play for UH.

The successful non-revenue sports teams like the softball, water polo, sailing, cheerleading and tennis programs have done their fair share of the winning and providing a sense of pride for UH athletics in their respective sports.

The time for UH football and UH men’s basketball to really start picking it up has never been more critical than ever.

I don’t care what anyone says, Title IX compliance has produced some proud moments for UH athletics and national recognition for UH in those respective sports directly effected by Title IX. Again, speaking on a personal level, without Title IX and the given state of the economy, I wouldn’t put it past UH to have cut numerous programs by now and along with that we can forget all about what softball has done for UH this past season and the potential it brings for the next few seasons at the least.

For these athletes and their supporters, both emotionally and financially, it is not their fault that the college athletic system is what it is.

After this Tsai-ko sized 620 foot “lifeboat” cruise, DON’T EVER go on a cruise ship. A medium-large one is around 3 football fields long and has around 12 different themed bars (pupus galore) and 7-10 speciality restaurants that serve spirits. The buffet(s) and general dining has wine, etc. The cocktail persons are around at all theatre productions, night shows, casino, and roaming the pool and sun decks in the day. I carry around a coffee mug all day in self-defense… 🙂

to what extent the penalty is will depend on both parties involved.

I don’t know if the other logos paka referred to are nearly the same or duplicates of the original, but “exact” logos are protected if the party owning the logo filed for “rights” under the US patent law.

Looks like RGM will have to beat out Turner (former USC player that they drafted fairly high in 2009) to make Miami’s roster.

With four spots all locked up already, the battle for the fifth spot will be hotly contested.

Turner was a disappointed in 2009, only being active for two games. He was an early stand out in OTAs and minicamps but then faded when things got real in training camp and the preseason. It was believed that the coaches were not happy with how the bigger turner was unable to get off the jam, even against smaller corners like Nate Jones. There were also rumors that Turner was slow in picking up the offense. One thing we know for sure is that Turner’s inability to contribute on special teams definitely hurt his chances of being active on gameday as well.

Turner’s biggest competition figures to come from Ryan Grice-Mullen. RGM was a teammate of Davone Bess at Hawaii and is said to similar on the field to Bess – with two differences. He doesn’t possess the hands that Bess has but he’s faster, having run a 4.36 40 yard dash at his Pro Day workout two years ago. That means that Grice-Mullen could be a factor in the return game – something the Dolphins seriously lack. If that’s the case, his ability to return kicks could be what wins him that final spot.

You asked for the best-case scenario I had–I posted this here last week.

My best scenario for UH would be for the MWC to lose Utah to the Pac-10 and BYU to the Big 12 and then having them expand to 12 to get a better TV deal and a conference title game. I’m not sure that the Big 12 would take TCU because they already *own* the Dallas-Fort Worth TV market and TCU doesn’t bring a new state to their TV deal.

So, the combined conference would look like this:
UH
BSU
Nevada
Fresno State
TCU
UNLV
Air Force
Colorado State
Wyoming
San Diego State
New Mexico
1 other team (Houston? SMU?)…or, if TCU goes to some other conference then stay at 10 teams

That conference would get an *excellent* TV deal from ESPN since ESPN won’t be able to play the MWC off the WAC. ESPN would only have one option instead of 2, so the price would go up. With only one choice and a nice geographical coverage, the TV deal would probably be much more than what the MWC and the WAC gets now combined. That would probably be $2 million more per school than what UH gets now.

If the Big 10 expands to 16 and raids the Big East, then reports now state that the Big East will lose their BCS AQ conference status. They might even lose the rest of their football teams to a raid from the ACC or Big 12. That would make the new MWC the #6 rated conference…giving it BCS AQ status! Instead of complaining about the BCS, UH fans would not worry too much about the C-USA, MAC, and the Sun Belt conferences being left out.

That is my best-case scenario. UH would be back with UNLV, SDSU (I could probably house 6 Tsaikos who wish to see games against SDSU), etc., and would be in a BCS AQ conference. Recruiting would be *much* easier with AQ status and revenues would increase significantly with the improved TV deal, improved basketball revenue (some of those teams make a pretty good basketball conference), and the $2-3 million extra each year from the conference championship game and BCS bowl share. The conference would also get $1-2 million extra each year from NCAA tournament money.

If the student fee lets UH’s Athletic Department get back to breaking even, the extra $2-3 million each year from the conference championship/BCS bowl share (plus another $2 million each year from TV and the increased basketball money) would take UH to the next level. Plus, UH would have better attendance with more attractive teams to show off. If the conference forced UH to provide a travel subsidy, UH could afford to offer $2 million per year as a buy-in to the conference and would end up $5 million or so *ahead* when you take increased attendance into account.

Anyway, you asked what the best case scenario would be to me. Better teams to play, BCS AQ status, and $5 million extra per year would take UH to the next level.

I took a pretty lazy way out and got a program called TubeDownloader that lets you rip youtube videos by keyword and downloads up to 50 videos. This has a lot of uses and is powerful little software.
