The 2010 Punahou School graduate becomes the third 49ers to receive that top national honor and the first since Paul Lotman in 2008. The other was Brent Hilliard in 1992.
Crabb was ranked first in the nation in kills for seven straight weeks, and finished the season with a team-best 502 kills. He is No. 3 nationally in kills per set (4.18), fourth in points per set (.4.71) and 10th in hitting percentage (.353)
Crabb was tied for second in digs (209) for the second-ranked 49ers, who finished 24-8 overall and lost in Saturday’s championship match of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament to No. 1 Brigham Young.
Extremely odd since Sander’s team is in the final four and Crabb’s isn’t.
Agree. Particularly if you interpret the way the MPSF first team is listed. It’s usually done by points, not alphabetically. And Crabb is No. 3 on the MPSF list.
I saw this nice blurb on UH recruit Jennings Franciskovic, seems like he is an outside hitter for his high school. Really excited about this guy.

Oaks Christian High’s boys’ volleyball team halted Oak Park’s Tri-Valley League winning streak at 65 matches after upended the Eagles in five games (25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-9) on Tuesday.
Jennings Franciskovic, who will play volleyball at Hawaii, led the Lions with 30 kills.
Oaks Christian had a chance to earn a share of the league title entering Wednesday’s match at Fillmore. Results were not available at press time.
Oak Park’s last league loss was in 2007.
I agree with Warriorfan, it is odd and I can’t believe it. Maybe your twitter source played an April Fools joke one month later. Why jump the gun? Let’s wait till it is officially announced.

Long Beach State junior Taylor Crabb (Honolulu, Hawaii) has been named the 2013 AVCA Division I-II Men’s National Player of the Year, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Wednesday evening at the NCAA Championship Banquet.
“I feel so blessed to be a part of this program and University,” Crabb said. “Without my teammates and coaches, and everyone else who supports our team, it wouldn’t be possible for me to win this award. It is a very humbling award and I’m glad that I can share it with Long Beach State.”
Congrats to him, even though I still am annoyed he picked long beach state. I could understand Stanford, USC , UCLA or Pepp over UH but long beach state?? Ugh.
Don’t know what went into his decision, or his brother’s. Perhaps he wanted to play for Knipe. Maybe The Beach offered a degree program he wanted Or The Beach offered the best scholarship package. Don’t remember who was pursuing him other than UH.

Well, you were right, Cindy. I’m still surprised that they picked a player from a team that did not make the Final Four and one that was not MPSF Player of the Year. Really odd.

Koelsch committed to the beach program according to Kara Hill at My Recruiting Solutions who helps kids get recruited.

LC (#17) is right, Kendra Koelsch committed to play Sand 2014. She’ll be a great addition to the other recruits that are coming in for Sand only. SW is/has built a great roster for the 2014 Sand Wahines!!
Anyway if Koelsch is a 2014 grad, she won’t be playing for the beach team ( don’t have to use the term sand anymore)
Unless Koelsch is graduating early and enrolling in early 2014??
WF has the name officially been changed to “Beach” volleyball now? Heard that it was in the discussion stages to make the change.
Cindy mentioned it so I assume it’s correct. Also remember hearing it during a USC broadcast.
by the way I meant Koelsch wouldn’t be on the UH beach team next season because she will still be in high school.
I hope the name change is official! I’ve tried to get used to it being Sand Volleyball but it just doesn’t seem quite right.

Well, good for Taylor Crabb! Since it’s an individual honor I don’t think it really matters what the team did, although LBSU did beat BYU in Provo once this year. BYU, including Sander, are a little too showboat-y for me. Crabb seems more humble. WF, agree it’s a bummer he picked LB but I’m sure he had his reasons.
