Most of the following appears on the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s breaking news.

Sam Bennett, who spent the past season as an assistant with the Arizona Cardinals, is joining the University of Hawaii football coaching staff, the school announced today.

Bennett will serve as assistant coach on offense. His Twitter account indicates that he will be the offensive line coach.

Bennett is the first coach hired on the offensive side since Todd Graham was named UH’s coach last week. Earlier, Graham retained Jacob Yoro and Abraham Elimimian as assistant coaches on defense, and hired Azusa Pacific head coach Victor Santa Cruz as defensive coordinator.

“Coach Bennett is one of the brightest coaches and best teachers I have encountered in my 30+ years of coaching,” Graham said in a UH release. “We are so thrilled to welcome him and we can’t wait for him to get started.”

Prior to working with Arizona, where he assisted in daily and game planning, Bennett worked at Arizona State as a graduate assistant and then offensive analyst.

His father, Phil Bennett, is a former SMU head coach.

Hope he can coach O line. That’s difficult to do without prior experience. Graham has a lot of experience so we’ll have to trust his judgment!

Info online notes he was an offensive lineman in high school and long snapper @ SMU. Also lists coaching experience at Rice & Arizona State prior to going to the NFL. Hope he can continue the positive results that Mark Weber was able to produce. IMO, the O Line for the Warriors in 2019 was deep, cross trained and a very efficient unit! Lot of experienced lineman coming back. Good luck Coach Bennett.

#2…if you read his bio….he coached Oline in most of his stops. He also coached RBs so the guy is probably very versatile. He was an Olineman in his playing days so he knows a thing or two about the Oline.

He is the son of a coach. Father Phil coached under JJ at SMU.

I am anxious to see who the OC will be. I think Graham is looking D-II or some small school who has had consistent success in Offense. Money is definitely a challenge to pay for big name.

Guessing there is some negotiation going on with the OC candidate. I.e. $$$

That’s why no announcement on the OC

Though I may speak with the tongues of men and of angels, without money, I am nothing.
