Hawaii men’s basketball: Eran Ganot makes return ahead of Big West play
Just before the midpoint of the 2019-20 season — and the start of Big West Conference play — Hawaii basketball coach Eran Ganot has officially returned from his medical leave.
As Stephen Tsai notes, he stepped away for 51 days, although he’d made increasingly frequent appearances in recent weeks. The specifics of his condition were not disclosed.
Ganot will be on the sidelines for Sunday’s 5 p.m. matchup against Maine (3-9), the nonconference finale for UH (8-5).

Acting head coach Chris Gerlufsen takes that record into the UH record books, where he is 18th among 22 all-time coaches in wins. His winning percentage of .615 is sixth among that group.
UH is coming off a 1-2 appearance for fourth place in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. Ganot appeared closer to a return before the tourney, but wasn’t quite there yet.

The Rainbow Warriors begin conference play at Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 9.
