If UH hosts, I would think that it would be in the Stanford regional. Win here and go there. But the seedlings would have to match.

  2. lina November 30, 2019 9:40 am

Utah surprisingly swept. Hopefully this helps Cal Poly in the RPIs.

Also for Hawaii, hopefully St Johns and Missouri win today. The most I’m hoping for is no dropping in the RPIs today.

  3. wahinefan87 November 30, 2019 10:25 am

Hawaii is probably going to host a subregional regardless of what happens today, but I’m still rooting for St. John’s and Denver to pull off upsets.

  4. Maverick November 30, 2019 11:44 am

Hawai’i will host and this shouldn’t be a point of contention or concern. The team’s resume is too good not to:

    Division I record: 24-3
Overall RPI: current estimated 10 (figstats); 12th per NCAA earlier this week (yes!!)
    Non-conference record: 10-1
    Non-conference RPI: 5 (huge!!)
    Conference record: 14-2
    Conference RPI: 9
    Road record: 7-2
Record in last 10 matches: 10-0
Record against teams ranked 1-50 by RPI: 7-2
Record against teams ranked 51-100 by RPI: 3-0
Record against teams ranked 101-200 by RPI: 9-0
Record against teams ranked below 200 by RPI: 5-1(UCI loss!!)
Significant wins and losses: wins vs. Washington, Missouri, San Diego, UCLA, UCSBx2, Poly; loss to UCI
Other circumstances that could affect results (e.g., injuries): two junior starters injured in loss to UCI

UH has been treated fairly by the committee in recent years, and should be seeded somewhere between 11 and 13. On top of that, UCSB and Poly will both make the tournament with RPIs in the 30s and 3-4 top 50 RPI wins.

    At beach, 1st 3 courts
    Loker Russo
    Hurkett Maidment
No idea the pair on the third court

  6. Kalihifc November 30, 2019 12:29 pm

Oh, 3rd court is Kekauoha Hardisty

  7. abacaxi November 30, 2019 1:41 pm

    St Johns 3-1 over Marquette

  8. wahinefan87 November 30, 2019 1:41 pm

Wow! St. John’s defeats Marquette in 4 sets taking the Big East and the NCAA AQ.
Denver lost to CSU in 5 sets, but I think they’ll finish in the RPI top 75.

  9. Cindy Luis November 30, 2019 2:37 pm

at beach as well … well actually over at Kapiolani Park writing my story from indoor practice.saw first sets vs. SC at noon dual
will come back for second dual with SC
Hawaii’s pairs in first dual were
    6. Kekauoha-Hardisty
    5. Hurkett=-Maidment
    4. Loker-Russo,
    3. Ozee-Hannemann
    2. Scoles-Huddleston
    1. Martin-Napoleon

  10. Kalihifc November 30, 2019 2:43 pm

    They drew 3-3.
Winners: Loker Russo (3), Ozee Hannemann and Martin Napoleon. Scoles and Huddleston were closely swept, the 2nd game in overtime. Could have gone either way really. Hannemann and Huddleston look good.

    7. 8. In a previous blog post (Nov 27) on how our non-conference opponents were doing prior to this last week before Selection Sunday, I posted the following:

    “Rpi 76/DENVER (23-7, 13-3)
    Conf: Summit League (9 teams)
Status: CHAMPION/AUTOMATIC … 5th Summit League championship title in 6 years with an upset win over 42/South Dakota (27-2, 16-1), which will be up for on-the-bubble consideration”

    “87/ST. JOHN’S (20-11, 12-6)
    Conf: Big East (10 teams)
Status: OUT? … Only hope for St. John’s to go to The Big Dance is to capture the Big East Volleyball Championship (Nov 29-30) and with it the AUTOMATIC berth … semi 1: tournament-host and #2 seed 12/Marquette vs #3 seed 61/Villanova; semi 2: #1 seed 17/Creighton vs #4 seed 87/St. John’s”

Congrats to Denver for finishing strong with an upset win in capturing the Summit League crown and with it the AUTOMATIC title. Almost upset Colorado State today but the loss (2-3) won’t matter — off to the Party they go!

Huge congrats to St. John’s for taking out two teams that over the last month have both been ballyhooed on ncaa.com as potential Top 10 seeds. This Big East WHAT JUST HAPPENED of one of our non-conference opponents (a match I remember well as I thought St. John’s was in position to pull off an upset) could push the Wahine past Marquette and Creighton into a possible Top 10 seed. We’ll see.

  12. vbfan November 30, 2019 3:21 pm

Will the team be watching the selection show at the SSC this year? I know they haven’t the last few years because they were on the bubble and probably didn’t want cameras around in case they weren’t selected.

  13. wahinefan87 November 30, 2019 3:35 pm

    12. They won’t be at SSC. The Wahine Basketball team has a home tournament going on at the same time as the selection show.

  14. wahinefan87 November 30, 2019 4:05 pm

Missouri swept LSU and will finish fourth in the SEC

  15. Kalihifc November 30, 2019 4:21 pm

BVS and Wagoner are here. Rado and Cowell were refing.

  16. sports for fun November 30, 2019 5:24 pm

Maybe BVS and Wagoner thinking of playing beach after their season is done. I hear that beach volleyball helps the indoor players quite a bit.

  17. lina November 30, 2019 5:29 pm

Shocker in the Big East! But I guess that’s what the postseason is all about. This is where the “real season” starts. Congratulations to St. Johns. This should be enough to prevent the Wahine from falling out of the Top 16 in RPI. Or will it? A UW upset tonight is also possible would make things more interesting.

  18. lina November 30, 2019 5:33 pm

Also another question is which bubble just got knocked out of the Tournament as a result of St. Johns? Illinois? Perhaps even WSU? (providing they don’t upset UW tonight)

  19. jmy November 30, 2019 5:35 pm

    Wisconsin won, Penn State didn’t…

  20. jmy November 30, 2019 5:38 pm

    Washington lost too…

  21. wahinefan87 November 30, 2019 5:40 pm

It’s going to be chaos predicting the brackets for tomorrow.

  22. Bleachercoach November 30, 2019 6:01 pm

All EYES glued to the TV.
With all these upsets over the weekend, the NCAA Committee is going Kabonkers with the some of the RPI changing and what Bubble Teams get in or not. They will be some very good teams that will be very sad cone 3:30HST tomorrow. This year the unseeded teams will be the most dangerous IMO in the history of NCAA Womens Volleyball!! This is one of the best I have ever felt about Hawaii hosting the 1st/2nd…in a long time
    Let’s Go BOWS!!!!

  23. tongo November 30, 2019 6:16 pm

    MN over Penn.

  24. jmy November 30, 2019 7:09 pm

I think that the Big 10 and the Pac-12 get seven teams each into the tournament…

  25. Cindy Luis November 30, 2019 7:31 pm

    12. Team watching at a private residence
    13. Wahine have been in the Wong hospitality room before when there was a conflict with basketball. They chose not to be at the SSC
15-16. Van Sickle originally recruited to play for the SandBows. finished in my story Friday that she and Hellvig may come over. But people have to remember how hard it is to play two sports, especially with indoor practicing in Spring as well. Iosia won’t have that conflict unless she’s asked to set for spring indoor.
    18. Won’t be WSU. Cougars upset UW in Seattle

  26. Cindy Luis November 30, 2019 7:35 pm

BTW updated all scores in main box
If anyone cares, latest FigStats has Hawaii at 10 in unofficial RPI
    http://ncaastats.figstats.net/volleyball-rpi.cgi
    1. Baylor. 2. Texas. 3 Stanford. 4. Pitt
think those are your top 4 seeds
    5 Wisconsin. 6. Kentucky. 7. Florida. 8. Washington. 9. Nebraska.
    10 Hawaii. 11 Minnesota. 12. Texas A&M. 13. Marquette. 14. Penn State 15. Rice. 16. Western Kentucky.

  27. Ki November 30, 2019 8:18 pm

Scores for the second dual please.

  28. Cindy Luis November 30, 2019 9:07 pm

As updated in main box UH wins second dual 4-2

  29. WaveRipper December 1, 2019 3:58 am

FINAL UPDATE. So how did Hawaii’s non-conference opponents do? Here is a list of which opponents will potentially be going to the Big Dance 2019 and which ones will potentially be yelling the “wait till next year!” battle cry. (Note: RPI is of November 24 and is not the final RPI the Volleyball Committee is using.)

    Rpi 1/BAYLOR (25-1, 15-1)
    Conf: Big 12 (9 teams)
Status: CO-CHAMPION/AT-LARGE … Baylor earned its first Big 12 championship in school history and co-shares the crown with Texas (its 12th overall), but the AUTOMATIC goes to Texas due to league tiebreaker rules

    Rpi 8/WASHINGTON (24-6, 15-5)
    Conf: Pac-12 (12 teams)
Status: AT-LARGE… Huskies finished alone in 2nd and the AUTOMATIC went to Stanford (24-4, 18-2), which claimed its 3rd straight Pac-12 conference title

    Rpi 19/MISSOURI (21-7, 13-5)
    Conf: SEC (13 teams)
Status: AT-LARGE … Missouri tied for 3rd in final SEC Standings … Check out the last entry of the homepages for Florida (25-4, 16-2) and Kentucky (23-6, 16-2). Hilarious! Obviously they are tied for first — in Florida’s case its 24th SEC championship and in Kentucky’s case its 3rd straight SEC crown — yet both refuse to acknowledge they share the title … Can’t confirm this but I am assuming the AUTOMATIC went to Kentucky, since it beat Florida twice during conference play

    Rpi 26/SAN DIEGO (24-5, 17-1)
    Conf: WCC (10 teams)
Status: CHAMPION/AUTOMATIC … San Diego’s first outright WCC championship since 2013

    Rpi 28/UCLA (18-11, 13-7)
    Conf: Pac-12 (12 teams)
    Status: AT-LARGE … Bruins finished 4th in Pac-12 Standings, just behind Utah (22-9, 14-6)

    Rpi 76/DENVER (23-8, 13-3)
    Conf: Summit League (9 teams)
Status: CHAMPION/AUTOMATIC … 5th Summit League championship title in 6 years with an upset win over 42/South Dakota (27-2, 16-1), which falls into the “bubble”category

    87/ST. JOHN’S (22-11, 12-6)
    Conf: Big East (10 teams)
Status: CHAMPION/AUTOMATIC … Red Storm stuns both Creighton and Marquette in Big East Tournament to capture its first conference championship in 12 years
    _____________________________

    82/ARMY WEST POINT
    Conf: Patriot League (9 teams)
Status: OUT … Automatic went to 53/American University (24-7, 15-1), which beat Army in the final of the Patriot League Championship and which will be the Patriot League’s only rep at The Big Dance

    162/W VIRGINIA
    Conf: Big 12 (9 teams)
Status: OUT …. Finished last in the Big 12 Standings

    168/SACRAMENTO ST
    Conf: Big Sky (11 teams)
Status: OUT … Automatic went to 85/Northern Colorado (26-7, 17-1), the first time since 2014 it will be at The Big Dance

    183/UTAH VALLEY
    Conf: WAC (9 teams)
Status: OUT … Automatic went to 60/New Mexico State (27-3, 16-0) — its 2nd straight NCAA tournament and 10th appearance under current coach Mike Jordan—which will be the WAC’s solo entry to the NCAA Volleyball tournament

  30. Optimist December 1, 2019 5:18 am

Wild guess: Wahine, Northern Colorado, USC,, BYU

  31. Optimist December 1, 2019 5:37 am

Wild guess: Stanford, Northern Colorado, Cal Poly, South Dakota

  32. HawaiiMongoose December 1, 2019 8:11 am

    29. Thanks for the recap! So the Wahine finished the regular season with wins over three conference champions, the Pac-12’s second and fourth place teams and the SEC’s third place team. That was a heckuva non-conference performance.

  33. Bidie12VB December 1, 2019 8:42 am

    Still no word on Jolie?

  34. Bowsfan December 1, 2019 8:46 am

What condition stops sandbows from playing. Is rain OK. As least not like couple weeks ago, thunder and lightning.

  35. R.M December 1, 2019 9:25 am

33.I think they only cancel if there’s lightning. I watched them play through the rain before.

  36. kahuna December 1, 2019 10:26 am

I like the idea of having the team watch the game at a private area/residence. It allows the girls and the team to be more “free” and relaxed. It’s supposed to be a fun event and having some privacy allows the girls to be themselves and not have to worry about some TV camera capturing what is being said, what they are eat or how the are acting.

You know how some people can take something out of context and start rumors. “Eh..there’s a beer on the table! I thought they underaged”. “Hey! I thought I heard someone say a bad word”. “Why are they eating potato chips when they preparing for a big tournament. Should be eating alfalfa and beans sprouts”.

I applaud Robyn for doing taking it to a private place. This is for the girls and the team to enjoy and be themselves and have fun.

  37. kahuna December 1, 2019 10:28 am

^^^^Of course I misprint and post “game” when I meant the “selection show”.

  38. Cindy Luis December 1, 2019 11:06 am

    29. thanks for getting to that first. UH scheduled well.
it also is funny when they don’t acknowledge sharing. Same thing happened when there was a three-way tie for the Big West with Hawaii, UCSB and CSUN.
Kentucky got the AQ on head-to-head.
    31. it won’t be Stanford. Cardinal should get a top-4 seed. could see Hawaii in the Stanford region.
It won’t be Cal Poly. Committee tries to avoid teams from same conference meeting in first two rounds.
    33. mentioned in my print story today that Rasmussen is not cleared to fully participate in practice.
That isn’t anything really new from two weeks ago when she was on the court helping with pregame warmups. have mentioned here previously that she that in practices she is limited to tossing balls out of the court to servers and nothing that requires jumping.
    34. they will play in rain unless it’s a heavy downpour. Lightning will stop it.
    36. They have been a private residences ever since Ah Mow has been a coach.
TV will be there So will I.
last two years it was only the SID doing the video.
    people will talk regardless.
my guess: they will be seeded 11, with NMSU, Northern Colorado and CSU.
