Watching CSF and UCD on Big West TV, but junk, only have end camera.

    1. I agree with you after having watched the tail end of the match. Not only was it end view, but no commentary. I guess neither of us will want to watch live video of UH at Davis this coming Friday. The other match between Irvine and Riverside is still going on, much clearer and there is sound but no commentary. Probably won’t watch either.

UC Davis defeats CSU Fullerton in 4 sets. 20-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-7. That last set had to hurt.

2 ESPN 3 so much better. Still get Wells on ESPN radio. Maybe got to listen to him and try watching Big West TV .

    2. Is Wells going to travel all the way to Davis and then to Riverside to broadcast two days apart and all that traveling and extra hotel fees? It might not pay this time. Of course, Cindy, his mother, would know. Yes I agree with you that ESPN3 is so much better.

Slow day and will remain so until this weekend, so I will post my update here.

Here is my second take – albeit an abbreviated look – at the conferences I am watching closely as we head towards the home stretch. (In my final update to this post, I will add the other 3 of the so-called Power 5 conferences and both of the East’s so-called mid-Major leagues.)

    PAC-12 (12 teams)
2018 Total Bids/Berths: 8 (most of all conferences)
2018 Results: 6 of 8 teams made it to the regionals (Round of 32)
    2019 NCAA Tournament Potential Bids: 8 = 5/Stanford (16-4), 7/Washington (17-5), 14/UCLA (13-8), 20/USC (13-9), 22/Utah (16-7), 30/California (18-4), 37/Washington St (19-5), and 49/Arizona St (13-10)
2019 Probable Bids: 7 or 8 = Depends on how ASU’s “bubble” situation develops, as 5 of the Sun Devils remaining 8 conference matches are at home but against Pac-12 members with stronger RPIs.

    BIG TEN (14 teams)
    2018 Total Bids/Berths: 7 (2nd most of all conferences)
2018 Results: 7 of 7 teams made it to the regionals
    2019 NCAA Tournament Potential Bids: 8 = 3/Wisconsin (16-4), 6/Nebraska (18-3), 8/Minnesota (17-3), 15/Penn State (17-4), 21/Purdue (15-6), 39/Michigan (15-7), 40/Illinois (11-10), and 50/Ohio St (12-12)
2019 Probable Bids: 7 = Illinois and Ohio St will be automatically eliminated from at-large consideration if they fail to finish with a .500 or higher W-L overall record; moreover Ohio St is on the “bubble” and 5 of its remaining 8 matches are against conference opponents with stronger RPIs.

    WWC (10 teams)
2018 Total Bids/Berths: 5 (tied with the SEC and ACC for 3rd most of all leagues)
2018 Results: 4 of the 5 made it to the Round of 32
    2019 NCAA Tournament Potential Bids: 3 = 16/BYU (20-3), 33/San Diego (18-5), and 56/Pepperdine (13-10)
2019 Probable Bids: 2 = Waves could pull off an upset over BYU in their last match of the regular/conference season, bumping up their RPI at the last minute, but this “bubble” team’s chances for an NCAA invite seems “iffy” indeed.

    BIG WEST (9 teams)
2018 Total Bids/Berths: 2 (tied with the Big 12 and Big East in number of bids)
2018 Results: 0 of 2 made it out of the subregionals
    2019 NCAA Tournament Potential Bids: 3 = 11/Hawaii (20-3), 26/UCSB (19-3), and 41/Cal-Poly (16-7)
2019 Probable Bids: 3 = The nation’s longest active home winning streak (prior to this weekend’s UCSB @ Mott match) should count for something. I do hope all three teams finish very strong so that none will be denied the coveted invitation to The Big Dance, and imo, the WCC’s demise leaves the Tournament’s door wide open to a third Big West berth.

    GO BOWS!

Not my blog so have to post to correct the typo: WCC, not WWC (think I am crossing volleyball with WWE/wrestling, which would make for an interesting sport).

5 Wells is at every Wahine matches, i wonder if he gets to keep the air miles. Probably not. Its the best thing when matches are not televised.

Any idea when the MVB schedule will be released?

  10. darkfire35 November 6, 2019 7:37 pm

Regressing a little here. Just curious as to why Robyn didn’t put in TW to block Dvoracek? I know our digs were good and we did get a few blocks. But, I didn’t think we touched enough balls to set up transition. It also seemed like the chemistry/energy was good with the formation she used.
    Just curious…Thoughts?
GO BOWS!!!! Let’s hope we can get our regional!!

  11. darkfire35 November 6, 2019 7:39 pm

by the way, 6. very nice overview!

  12. darkfire35 November 6, 2019 9:26 pm

Other random thoughts. Just watched the Cal Poly match again, noticed Choy setting off the mark and BVS having to come toward the middle like a mini slide. It fooled the blocker and angled toward the left end of the court so it couldn’t be dug….could that be a play? OH/OPP mini slide?

C-Mac commented that “it worked anyway!”

    GO BOWS!!!

Re Tiff Wells (as most of you know he is my son.)
The contract with the radio station and UH is for him to cover all matches, home and away.
    8. of course he keeps his miles.
re: MVB When the contracts are all signed. I have a few dates but didn’t want to post until complete. For your planning purposes, Big West tournament at UCI April 23-25.
    6. thanks. am doing a look at that for Friday’s paper.
