Ruddins’ 80 swings was 46% of the total UCSB 174 swings and her 27 kills was 43.5% of the 62 total kills.

On the POST GAME SHOW, the HELLVIG family and Asst. Coach AL are on the headset. Is that a live interview overseas from SWEDEN?

  3. Cindy Luis November 2, 2019 4:40 pm

    1. yep. but the real stat is 22 kills through Set 3, just five the rest of the way. She tired and when she did take a swing late, not the same pace as earlier. Understandable.
    2. don’t know. didn’t see it. will ask tomorrow.

2 the Hellvigs were in the house last night. I think Coach AL was translating.

    5. Yes. LBSU lost to Davis — again in 5.

(Late comments) …. First off, congrats to UCSB Gauchos for leaving it all on the floor. To them I would say be proud of coming back after Set 1 and playing like a team worthy of an NCAA at-large bid. Lindsey Ruddins showed why she is a 3x AA (Honorable Mention) –and an almost certain 4x AA this year — though I think this injury-prone athlete may have reinjured something in Set 4.

Foremost, congrats to Hawaii for playing with the fighting spirit we expect of this team. If Hawaii is going to win the Big West title and get out of the NCAA tournament’s sub-regional, they need their AA candidates to carry them.

And carry them they did by “bettering the ball” time and time again. Frosh Hellvig (on the right) and frosh Igiede (in the middle) provided the firepower when needed while senior Iosia provided the leadership when needed, especially late in the sets by serving up the “fear factor” and throwing UCSB out of system with her (almost) every toss.

Aside: That X play, executed to perfection by Choy (setter), Williams (decoy, taking two blockers with her) and Ross (hitter), was something to behold!

    GO BOWS!

That was a great win last night. Can’t wait for today”s match against Cal Poly.

Watched first three sets of Nebraska – Penn St match. Had to leave for Warrior football game. Anyway, I am always impressed with the caliber of Big10 women”s volleyball.

Translating? I think the Hellvig family speaks English because they were involved in prolonged conversations with a bunch of UH volleyball supporters sitting around there all evening long.

I don’t think those UH fans spoke Swedish since they looked like local Japanese people.

Didn’t see any kind of “sorry don’t understand what you said “ kind of reaction or facing expression from them. They were chatting like they’re all friends.

If those people and the Hellvigs spoke different languages and they both understood each other, then that have got to be some miracle…LOL

Like Hanna, the Hellvig family speak perfect english, with barely a trace of accent.
They were on the post game interview with Hanna.

  10. nomu1001 November 3, 2019 10:39 am

    9. Believe just about all Swedish people speak fluent english. Known for being very friendly personable. Dont they also love their fika?

  11. kahuna November 3, 2019 10:41 am

After watching the replay. I think the Hellvigs and Angelica was on the headset listening to what Hanna was saying on the tv post game show.

If you noticed, they waved at the tv the moment it panned onto them. They were watching the interview and listening thru Kanoa’s and Lisa Strand Maa’s headphones from the broadcast table.

BTW Cindy if you can…Please remind Ryan to address Robyn by her proper name. He kept putting the last name Santos in her name when she is no longer goes by that name.

To me, its dis-respectful. Ryan should know better. People’s name are their identity. If you keep identifying people incorrectly, you kind of “insulting” them.

He say in on tv. ….people hear it and repeat it…then that mistake take off.

Robyn Ah Mow is not a hard name to remember

  13. darkfire35 November 3, 2019 11:28 am

    12. Don’t think Ryan was being disrespectful; just a simple mistake with the brain pulling up latent memories. Like when you call a friend by the wrong name, it’s just a whoops moment since this is the first time I’ve heard him refer to RAM that way.
    GO BOWS!!

  14. kahuna November 3, 2019 11:39 am

#13…I guess so but he did it twice last night and this is 20+ matches into the season. She was Robyn Ah Mow at the beginning of the season.

You should know the name of the coach if you are going to broadcast games and be part of a UH broadcast team.

I do hope Ryan fixes that up. I would not be happy if someone keep calling me by the wrong name so I do hope it get taken care of.
