#35 from prior page – I’m surprised they don’t even give the press a travel roster. It’s obvious from watching the games and the news that is the top thing that fans want to know right now.

  2. Bowsfan October 9, 2019 7:02 pm

Keep the travel roster a secret is OK with me. Hawaii (UH and us) shouldn’t mention here and VT. If anybody notices a player still @ home, no say nothing OK. Why give CP & UCSB a heads up. If we don’t know, they don’t know. Let’s be suprised like the teams.

  3. darkfire35 October 9, 2019 7:50 pm

I’m sure CP & UCSB have their spies…but yeah, mum’s the word everyone!

  4. Kauaiboy October 9, 2019 8:07 pm

They already have an advantage as do the rest of the BW by only needing to prepare for Hawaii for the entire week.

  5. darkfire35 October 9, 2019 8:14 pm

Great links Cindy! Mahalo nui loa for all you do for us!! GO BOWS!!

  6. H-Man October 9, 2019 8:37 pm

CP and UCSB will find out soon enough when the Wahine arrive tomorrow. Besides, I think they will focus on their own scheme regardless of who Hawaii puts on the court and adjust match-ups accordingly. It’s a matter of executing.

  7. Big Island Volleyball Fan October 9, 2019 8:46 pm

    6. True. Nevertheless, UCSB will have the advantage scouting the first match with Cal Poly when watching on line Friday evening, especially if BVS is back on court.

  8. Ki October 9, 2019 9:08 pm

Is it true Hawaii put in a protest regarding the UCI-Hawaii match this past Friday?

  9. Warriorfan October 9, 2019 11:45 pm

R8 hope so they need to replay the fifth set before their second match at irvine, that was an unfair result that should be settled in a fair way (even if Irvine will
    Be hosting)

  10. warriorwahine October 10, 2019 2:10 am

    9. exactly. somebody needs to tell robyn to make that protest just like uci pulled a similar stunt at long beach in 2016. except irvine got away with even more besides the unofficial replay the point (the ball hit the table/was dead before the uci player even got near there! it was all on film.) uci also delayed the game there, may as well have contributed to a rotation violation and delayed the game when norene already tossed the ball serving.

for logistics, yeah make it even if they have to do it at irvine. if uci can pull a fast one like they did 3 years ago with the beach, so can us.

  11. warriorwahine October 10, 2019 2:23 am

    https://bigwest.org/documents/2019/10/7//2019_20_BWC_Manual_Section_23_Women_s_Volleyball_9_1_19.pdf?id=4062

hmm..looks like 23.13.4 and appendix 5 may need to be considered to be put to use for the protest including paragraph 3 of appendix 5

  12. vballfan October 10, 2019 5:26 am

It’s a shame many online Star Advertiser articles about the Wahine volleyball team are designated as “premium stories” and require a subscription/log in to read the piece. Not saying I think your articles are not “premium” quality, Cindy, but do you know why the newspaper consistently limits access to the general public? It’s annoying and petty, especially when other “premium stories” you think would be hidden behind a pay wall are not! Let the fans in on everything Wahine volleyball related the newspaper has to offer!

  13. islandman October 10, 2019 8:51 am

Newspapers and their writers have to make money

  14. Aloha73G October 10, 2019 3:02 pm

    12. If you check throughout the day, they rotate “premium” stories in and out of the “free” section, so if you check every few hours, on most days you will be able to read many of the stories in the premium section…you just have to do it on the Star-Advertiser’s schedule instead of your own.

Cindy’s fantastic articles about WVB and MVB are a big reason I re-started my subscription. Keep up the good work Cindy!!

    -Aloha!

  15. vballfan October 10, 2019 3:23 pm

    14. Mahalo for the tip!!!!

  16. Warriorfan October 10, 2019 4:16 pm

Is the protest just a rumor, come on wahine
That loss was an rpi killer and they should at least try and protest. Those two bogus calls were such momentum builders for UCI.

  17. kahuna October 10, 2019 5:19 pm

The problem with protesting is it makes UH looks small. It should not even have reached set 5. We were 11th ranked and Irvine was winless in conference.

Nothing more pathetic than a powerhouse team crying and making excuse over losing to an 3-11 team. You bound to lose respect among conference members and national pundits. UH is going to have to suck it up and accept defeat.

NO to protest and move on.

  18. Warriorfan October 10, 2019 5:50 pm

R17 oh please who cares what others think if its “small” that’s a truly pathetic reason.
This is for the team and a chance to host which is their goal!
They should have swept Irvine but things happen, injuries happens. No match should be decided by badly blown calls!

  19. Kazu October 10, 2019 5:52 pm

8 Ho should have ruled against UCI and let them protest. The coach probably made him all nervous.

  20. Warriorfan October 10, 2019 5:54 pm

And if the big west doesn’t rule in the wahine favor so what, at least they tried and fought for it. Anything that will be good for the team is a good thing.
Teams have protested before and no one cared if it was l small” of them.

  21. Bowsfan October 10, 2019 6:36 pm

Is call the coach, in Rolo’s and Ganot’s contract. Beeman, Nagamine and Wade, sometime I think. I would like one with Robyn, if not her, one of the other coaches.

  22. Kahuna October 10, 2019 7:10 pm

Dang…..the lost was on UH and now you want UH to be petty like you.

You must be the guy who sits behind me and insult the ref and yell at the opposing coach to sit down.

Robyn pride herself and her team for being tough minded. You want her to now beg for a replay.

Only fair solution is to suspend the ref who made the mistake and disallow future use of the replay in that manner. Not fair for Irvine to replay a match later. What if one is their star player get hurt?? It wouldn’t be fair to them.

  23. warriorwahine October 10, 2019 7:15 pm

    17. not small.

more like free pass. why should only uc irvine be the only team to receive a free pass after pulling a fast one?

uc irvine did the same stunt in their home match versus long beach in the 2016 season and that too went to 5 sets. i say thats HUGE especially for who got the short end of that stick.

and besides, whatever happened to ‘difficult to defeat the bows’? irvine never beat hawai’i and only beats uh after 40 tries by receiving a free pass pulling a fast one?

    18 and 20. indeed. exactly.

  24. warriorwahine October 10, 2019 7:20 pm

    22. not fair for irvine to replay a match later? they received a free pass 3 years ago. them having to replay again at set 5 score 1-1 is pretty fair regardless of whose players injured.

robyn just needs to ask/correspond a protest with big west NOT beg for them to do a replay. and speaking of replay uc irvine received an unofficial replay after a pulling that fast one versus uh just like they did to the beach 3 seasons ago.

  25. Aloha73G October 10, 2019 7:29 pm

For all we know UH/RAM did file a protest and/or request a replay of set 5 at 1-1. The conference rules explicitly state that coaches shall not discuss officials/officiating with the media, so telling us or Cindy about it likely would jeopardize chances of a successful protest.
    -Aloha!

  26. Kahuna October 10, 2019 7:43 pm

There will be NO replay. It will just open it up to everybody wanting a replay every time there is a critical point missed.

Pepperdine men’s team got majorly screwed this past season on a match point against BYU that obviously went off the block but nobody saw it except the Pepperdine coaches. Because Pepperdine had no challenge left, they had to take the loss. That was more egregious than what had happened to UH and no replay was granted.

It was only 1-1 when the mistake was made against UH. We had chances to put it away but didn’t so it’s not all the refs fault.

  27. rabbit ears October 10, 2019 7:44 pm

We just need to ban Ernie Ho from being the down ref. I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry.

  28. Kazu October 10, 2019 8:47 pm

JR must be bummed out, she hasn’t been on a road trip yet and who knows when she will be avail.
Waiting for Wagoner to have a break out game, i think she’s someone who can get 15 plus kills on a good night.

  29. Warriorfan October 10, 2019 8:53 pm

R26 I do not care what pepperdine did or did not do, there are reasons teams
Protest games and the ncaa allows it.
irvine has done it before, their coach knows exactly What they got away with and there is NO question they would protest the match if they were in UH’s position ( had a chance at hosting)

  30. Brandon October 10, 2019 9:26 pm

Do people not realize that even with this loss, and possibly 1-2 more, UH still has a chance at host. Win out, I am 1000 percent sure they host. Lose 1. 80 percent sure. Lose 2? I say it would be 50-50 then. UH is predicted to end with a 16 RPI even with 5 loses. Stop acting like the sky is falling. Yes it was an unfortunate loss, but they just need to regroup.

  31. H-Man October 10, 2019 9:33 pm

The Wahine lost because they were not the better team that night. The crucial mistake was when Ross put it into the net, giving UCI a 14-13 advantage.

  32. Warriorfan October 10, 2019 10:54 pm

R30 does not matter this loss does not help in any way, if they protest and big west sides with the wahine all the better. Better to try then not at all. I don’t care if Irvine or poly or whoever thinks it’s “petty”, they are liar if they deny they would do the same .

  33. Warriorfan October 10, 2019 11:01 pm

R31 they lost because they got two points taken from the refs. irvine got handouts. That mistake by ross should not have mattered as the wahine would have already won the match, fair is fair. Protesting a match is not against the rules.

  34. Bowsfan October 10, 2019 11:17 pm

Does anyone know if the California fires and power outages, cancelling high school and college games.

  35. Optimist October 11, 2019 1:20 am

FYI from NCAA Women’s volleyball rules.
1.1.1.2 Media equipment and personnel are restricted from the areas in front
of the team benches, scorer’s table and warm-up area and from the playing
surface between the attack lines extended on the bench side of the court. In
other areas, media equipment and personnel on the playing surface must be
at least 2 meters (6 feet, 6 inches) away from the court, and within 1 meter
(3 feet, 3 inches) of the boundary defining the playing area. During timeouts
and between sets, media personnel will be permitted on the court unless
prohibited by the host institution or tournament director, but must not delay
    the resumption of play.

This is a comment I made on a previous thread:
    Optimist October 5, 2019 5:51 pm

Commented last night about official , Ernie Ho. He is also communicating with someone on the headset, so depending on what input, observations, recommendations that person can make, that person also may have some accountability.
Does the BWC comment on officiating errors, like some other sports , e.g. nfl, nba, ncaa football, etc, .They will sometimes after the fact , admit to getting the call wrong. Doesn’t change the outcome, but at least they own up to it.
As for the cameraman interference, it does appear that the UCI player maybe saying , “move!” As she is approaching the ball. Good lip readers need to confirm.
I agree that a big part of the issue is that it is a cameraman there and to make matters worse it is UCI’s bench space.

  36. H-Man October 11, 2019 8:16 am

Well, I’ve been waiting for today’s match against Cal Poly since last season. Just hoping Norene can lead the team to a W.

  37. Andy October 11, 2019 10:26 am

27 – Hironaka might be even worse

  38. jm2375 October 11, 2019 10:44 am

All 3 (Hironaka, Ho, Chun) of the refs need to go. They’ve been around too long. Hironaka & Ho were officiating in the Klum Gym era. The game is too fast for them now.

    https://www.hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=51478
    new thread up for Friday
    12. All of the print edition is subscription base and has been for over 20 years. Not sure why it is an issue now.
Among the free items are the Blogs, Breaking and Obits.
    13. yes, subscriptions and ads help pay salaraies.
    14. thanks for the kind words
    25. IMHO i don’t think that discussing it here or elsewhere has any bearing on what the conference would decide.
    31. Ross free ball into net made it 13-12. Hellvig hitting error made it 14-12
    35. Addressed that when you posted. Down ref is in contact with the Spectrum truck whichi is putting up the replays on the monitor. They are asking for various camera angles and for replays. That’s what the contact is about, not getting a recommendation from the truck as to the decision.
