It was moving day for the Warriors, who were set to depart this afternoon for Reno ahead of Saturday’s game against Nevada.

Both teams are 3-1 entering their Mountain West Conference opener.

With Mother Nature’s cooperation, the Warriors practiced in wet conditions on Wednesday. Rainy weather is expected for Saturday’s game. The Warriors had a walk-through session this morning, with a more detailed practice expected tomorrow.

Navy v Memphis. Game on ESPN. SB Keoni-Kordell Makekau (Iolani/Ewa Beach) playing really well for Navy that has a slightly different look. Triple-Option for the most part, but they have passing options. QB Perry passed 19 yards for TD.

  5. ai-eee-soos September 26, 2019 3:16 pm

Stutz II was hired at Navy as an Offensive Assistant,

working with the other Coaches at WR, RB, and QB.

Okeke, Pritchard, and Akoteau return to lineup.

Great news – we need all the help available on D.

This will be Akoteau’s first game this season, and

adds a Biog Body on D.

    GO WARRIORS !!!

Nevada has also not have as much stability in the QB position. Hopefully the team can finally win the turnover battle. This would be the perfect game to change that. Also I heard on a Nevada podcast that they have had some trouble in the redzone this season

Nevada has three QBs. They’re going back to the freshman.

  10. Stephen Tsai September 26, 2019 4:44 pm

Last week’s Nevada-UTEP telecast was kind of weird. I think the announcers were actually not on site. That’s the new age of remote announcing.

  11. Andrew September 26, 2019 4:54 pm

Has there been any word on what they’re expecting for attendance? I’ve read somewhere they’ve been averaging 7,000 a game. Pair that with expected colder temps and most likely rain, I’d imagine the crowd may not be much of a factor.

  12. 19Champions September 26, 2019 5:55 pm

Winning turnover battle is huge especially for this offense. Hawaii has not had a chance at benefiting from that and leveraging the playing field so to speak. Absolutely correct! I’d like to see Hawaii get some turnovers bounce their way and get a shorter field to work with. It’s going to be hard to stop them if that happens.

A call to Tsaikos everywhere. Please check the Tsaiko Facebook page tomorrow. The sun is setting on our Warrior Brother Kekoa. He’s beaten back overwhelming odds in the past. This time Ke Akua is gently insisting that Kekoa leave his pains and burdens behind and join the Angels of Heaven where he belongs.

Last night, Rev. Bulla and Lynn spread blessings in a memorable ceremony. All is well.

For those crazies that follow every detail watch NV-Purdue condensed game. Lotsa tells in that one. I think a few more faces return to lineup for Sat. Show up to play right from start and play thru, we get this one. Really it’s sort of a must win game right now. GoWarriors

  28. Hank September 27, 2019 6:38 am

It’s been a while but I think this year we finally come out on top. I see Batoon making it difficult for their freshman QB and our offense playing within itself. Purdue lost its game at Nevada because they turned the ball over 5-times, and while we’re capable of doing that as well, the motivation of beating them for the first time in 12-years in Reno keeps us focused. UH 38 UNR 30.

It was not long ago you came to visit us on Maui via the ferry. May your journey be smooth and I will look at the sky and see a very bright star which will remind me of you. Aloha my friend.

Don’t know Kekoa but wishing the best on a journey we all take-

  35. Maddog50 September 27, 2019 10:28 am

Regarding tomorrow. Expect swing passes, screens, double screens and underneath play action passes. Those of you waiting for QB pressure you will get that tomorrow. They are gonna try to establish the run to make the total scheme work. Having Pritchard Okeke and Akoteau back are a huge plus. Gotta bring it all day and make sure they know they played Warrior 2.0 all day long. I’m jacked!!! GoWarriors!!!

  36. sackkabooya September 27, 2019 10:34 am

I hope the tackling improves (really has to happen). Pass rush too (so less Padello at LB). Once those two issues get fixed “the sky’ the limit” (coverage is very good when got pass rush) for UH Phase II. That is the only thing holding them back right now so far. Defensive physicality. The basic details (like tackling and slipping blocks). Offense will take care of the rest, especially now that there are different ways to attack the short-middle area (Stovall and Victor). Pass will set up the run now (if Smith is not stubbornly idealistic). Almost there (like the first 20 minutes vs Central Arkansas). Hawaii 39 Nevada 27.

  37. NorthShoreFan September 27, 2019 10:44 am

Game to watch today…San Jose St. V Air Force.

On D tackling is fundamental. There should be a short part of practice to remind them of this.
Looking for a good game and a W tomorrow.
    Nevada…3-1
W – Purdue, Weber St. and UTEP L – Oregon
    Warriors…3-1
W – Arizona, Oregon St. and Central Arkansas L – Washington

    Gonna be a good one!

  38. ADG September 27, 2019 12:01 pm

Do it for coach Rolo. 🏈🏈

  39. Inyoface September 27, 2019 12:20 pm

    Let’s have zero turnovers!

  40. sackkabooya September 27, 2019 12:27 pm

When you watch videos of Hawaii’s defense you can see Taala has a “playmaking” gear. You can really see it. When he needs to make a play he does. He did miss a “bad” one vs Arizona (was TD) but he has been pretty consistent. He made a “dominating” stop inside the 5 that helped force a FG last week after Smart’s fumbled punt. He even had a big stop on the late punt return vs OSU that might have been a disaster if not for his stop. When he and Hune are paired together the run defense is pretty stout. Just depends on the LB’s making tackles. Just a matter of time before his penetrating skills develop and he will disrupt form the interior.

Akoteu’s return can move Vega toward the edge (where he belongs frankly, not inside), also allow us to see more Hune at 3-5 technique and have the DL rotation more evenly distributed run stopping wise. But its the back-end (LB’s and safties) run support that has to get after it (like second half vs Oregon St.) so they can force obvious pass situations and unleash Padello. Pritchard has to get more physical (like we remember him) too. He was not vs Arizona. LB’s gotta get better now. I think they will. Can do.

  41. A-House September 27, 2019 12:43 pm

i do hope that UH DC will go with the 4 DL, 4 DBs, and 3 LBs — pass ruch sorely missing with only 3 DL rush

am I missing or UH have only a few ‘blitzes’

mix ‘um up DC — show different schemes with more blitzes w/ the DBs covering the WRers!

in recent history, IMHO, UH has not been very creative — offense or defense.

  42. 702WarriorFan September 27, 2019 12:53 pm

    Warrior kekoa, Rest in Peace.
    You will be missed.
    Aloha.

  43. sackkabooya September 27, 2019 1:07 pm

I think Kahahawai-Welch is developing nicely to inherit Padello’s role with Ritner to fill Thomas’ opposite position. Jonah looked good in space despite a pretty big knee brace. I think they should be perfect fits in Batoons system (exotically intricate). Get more guys to fit the system the should be unreal. And try get lock down tacklers. Awesomeness coming. You can see the big picture forming.
