WV is the better team so far. They came to play Wahine still trying to find their way.

  2. H-Man September 12, 2019 8:21 pm

I like the adjustments coach Rob is making with McKenna Ross, Okino and Westerberg coming in to settle the team. And…..oh no, Rasmussen just injured her right ankle. Looked bad in slow mo.

  3. Cindy Luis September 12, 2019 8:22 pm

thanks. i couldn’t see the replay.
    updates in main box

  4. Anon September 12, 2019 8:26 pm

    Oh my god no Jolie…

  5. HawaiiMongoose September 12, 2019 8:51 pm

Scary injury. On first viewing of the replay I thought Jolie’s foot twisted more than 90 degrees, but on second viewing it appeared that her shoe slipped partially off and her foot didn’t twist as much as her shoe. Hopefully it’s only a sprain rather than a break and she’ll be able to play again this season. She’s battled so many health issues in her career, this is really unfortunate.

  6. vballfan September 12, 2019 8:53 pm

I love Jolie and just pray she will be okay.
Too bad no acupuncturist on staff. Immediate treatments will help Jolie heal very quickly. (My acupuncturist treated her own fractured ankle and she healed so, so quickly!)

  7. Andrew September 12, 2019 8:58 pm

I hope they don’t try to rush her back. They’re going to need her for conference play and post season. These pre season games aren’t that important to risk further injury

  8. rage September 12, 2019 9:05 pm

Are you not allowed to let the ball drop when you are serving now? It seems like people don’t just let the serve drop when they have a bad toss. I’ve seen it on the men’s and women’s side, so I didn’t know if there was a rule change. I remember the famous play where Aaron Wilton threw the ball up and let it drop even though it wasn’t his turn to serve because UH was about to get a point off for delay of game.

  9. Ki September 12, 2019 9:17 pm

    8. You’re not allowed a re-serve as in years past. Automatic point for the opponents if you do not serve the ball once you toss it.

  10. Cindy Luis September 12, 2019 10:12 pm

    8. the second toss rule was changed years ago (1998). The “let serve” the one that can hit the net, came in 2001.
You have to wonder how many aces Yuval Katz would have had if there had been a let serve. He was the master of the second serve.

Wishing the best for Jolie!! Loved the way the team rallied and seemed like they played harder for her. Gosh, I was thinking when I got home to see the replay, ” It looked almost the same type of injury Nikki Taylor suffered at the Elite 8 vs Minnesota.” Both tonite and Nikki’s year it was the opponents leg crossing over the line causing the injury. It’s so unfortunate especially when players are just battling at the net. Praying that the West Virginia player is ok and that our Jolie Razz has a good report and returns to the court as soon as she heals. Every spectator/fan and her teammates knows the value of her presence on that court.
    Let’s Go BOWS!!!

Thought Brooke did a great job stepping up big after Jolie was injured. Ross gave energy to the team and played great. Westerberg is a beast and showed some skills, Amber is awesome.
Hanna stepped up, and she will be counted on to help provide leadership while Jolie rehabs. Bottom line, Rika, Kyra, the whole team showed they are the real deal.

Hope Jolie is ok, we are going to need her. Can she make it back by Baylor? She is invaluable healthy, so agree with everyone that she should not return until she is ready and cleared.

  13. Matt September 12, 2019 11:55 pm

I just hope this injury isn’t a long term for Jolie because at the same token, with Cal Poly’s Torrey Van Winden sidelined through six matches, Cal Poly’s record stands at 3-3 after losing the first 3 matches while ranked. Sounds familiar, right? In Robyn’s first year, the WVB team was ranked, then lost it losing three straight as well. However, Cal Poly is currently 3-3 after winning the ShareSLO Mustang Challenge. That being said, with the turbulence shifting towards the Wahine, if Jolie’s injury becomes long term, that can be a huge dent in the armor because they’re going to fight three more tough opponents after Utah Valley. UCLA, Missouri and Baylor are right at the radar. Worse than that, the chances of the Wahine winning the BWC title could get less slim down the line. Now it’s a matter of thinking, can the freshman hitters (Wagoner and Hellvig) make up for Rasmussen’s numbers? Of course, Ross and Sibley each have been on and off the lineup, but this is the time where the youngsters need to back up the upperclassmen. I just hope they can continue to stay hot after the non-conference slate because they’re going to need every bit of it when conference play starts.

  14. menehune September 13, 2019 3:13 am

I share everyone’s concern that Jolie’s absence from the team will be a huge loss but I also believe that hoping she heals quickly so she can play again before the season is out is selfish. We should all just hope and pray for her quick and full recovery…period.
I have confidence that Robyn’s manipulation with the roster will pay dividends like we saw last night. Our subs stepped it up big time.

  15. vbfan4ife September 13, 2019 4:18 am

with regards to the girls stepping up, they did that big time. Glad that Wagoner was able to shake off her funk and play better. Same with Hellvig. Honestly this looks very similar to what Nikki Taylor had in the post season years ago and then had to wear a boot for a while. I pray and hope that Jolie makes an amazing recovery but do NOT want her against Baylor as IMO that would be rushing her to play and she needs minimum of 2 weeks off depending on severity of the sprain if it is only as minor as that.

Good news is we are deep in the middle and Westerberg can also play pin. (Same with Akana) Ross did great! Rather us use our depth than rush a player back. Their health first and foremost is of utmost importance.

  16. setaone September 13, 2019 7:33 am

Next man (or woman) up! Robyn has shown in the past two years that she will use her roster to get the players to win on any given night.

Praying for Jolie to make a quick and uneventful recovery. With Utah Valley (?) tonight, Robyn can get those players that need to step up some needed reps. It is still a young season and next week’s matches are pretty critical, but winning the Big West should be a huge focus as that guarantees getting into the NCAA Tournament.

  17. Tongo September 13, 2019 7:40 am

The quality of this freshmen class was on display last night. I had to remind myself that wahines are playing 3 true freshmen and will have up/down like a typical 18 yr old. Once Jolie when down, they played steady as well as the veterans. While it was heartbreaking moment, we are wishing Jolie the best.

  18. vballfan September 13, 2019 7:45 am

Just a clarification on Jolie. Having lived with injuries and extended deep pain, I truly only thought of wanting Jolie to heal quickly *for her own sake!!* Honestly, didn’t even think of wanting her to get well to quickly get back on the court. Living with any kind of pain is a pain.

  19. Connor September 13, 2019 8:15 am

The team will lose its emotional leader And best player for at least a month if it is only a sprain and nothing more serious shows up. Sprains are tough to heal fast. Bummer. I would love to see westerberg at OH and skyler amber in the middle. We need size again big teams.

  20. Brandon September 13, 2019 8:20 am

My wanting jolie to get healthy as soon as possible and play is for her. Thats what she wants the most, to be on the court with her team, happy, healthy and competing. Hopefully we get some info about her injury tonight to know maybe how she is doing etc.

  21. burro sabio September 13, 2019 9:22 am

I noticed that the box scores on the UH website are not accurate. Choy and Westerberg did not play according to the WV game stats.

  22. rabbit ears September 13, 2019 9:35 am

#13 pretty sure Jolie want a quick recovery so that she can play again. Don’t think anyone is saying she should play before she’s ready. The Doctor, trainers and she will decide time frame.

  23. islandman September 13, 2019 10:22 am

    20. The pdf file in the website article has more accurate stats

  24. jm2375 September 13, 2019 11:05 am

    Speedy healing to Jolie.
Good game last night, game 1 not withstanding.

Hopefully, UH has been doing “parallel testing” with the stats. If not, they should go back and redo the stats using the old, proven, software. This is standard procedure whenever a change is made to a new system.

    GO WAHINE!
    GO WARRIORS!

  25. islandman September 13, 2019 11:20 am

Last time i checked, the website cumulatve stats looked okay except for the indiv players’ Sets Played.

  26. Eric M. September 13, 2019 12:42 pm

Under the Live stats for Hawaii’s Total Match Block numbers, it shows only 10, but when you add them up, it totals 17 blocks. Does anybody double check the stat numbers?

  27. Cindy Luis September 13, 2019 12:55 pm

    https://www.hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=51036
    new thread up for Friday
    21. yes, the box score incorrect again. It continues to be software problem. the NCAA is aware of it but this is the software they are mandating for next season.
    it is a problem.
    22. What Rasmussen may want and the reality of the recovery process two different things. Agree until she’s cleared by all involved she won’t be playing.
24-26.UH has manual copies of the boxscores that are available. UH has suggested at least to the Big West that those be used instead.
What the Big West told me was they and the NCAA are aware of the issue and working to resolve it.
