Hawaii Football: Pac-12 Networks to air Washington game

As expected, the Pac-12 Networks will televise the Sept. 14 UH-Washington game in Seattle.

The seven-year-old network has 17.9 million viewers.

The kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. HT.

The other national telecasts:

> Aug. 24 vs. Arizona, 4:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network
> Sept. 28 at Nevada, TBA, ESPN Networks
> Oct. 12 at Boise State, TBA, ESPN Networks
> Oct. 19 vs. Air Force, 5 p.m., CBS Sports Network
> Nov. 30 vs. Army, 7:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network

Wait? What’s that? UH’s senior night is going to kick off (at the earliest) at 7:30 p.m.? Pumba Williams‘ name will be called at about midnight? What the heck.

Well, it turns out it could have been a lot worse. CBS Sports Network apparently offered some scenarios that may or may not have involved ruining your Friday night. So, the late start — that’s 12:30 a.m. Sunday in West Point, N.Y. — turned out to be the best option.

    Good morning Tsaikos

    let’s go Bows!!

    did Coderio gain some weight?

how tall is Uahinui? looks to be around 6’3″.

who are the leaders of this player called off season work out?

  3. Stephen Tsai May 30, 2019 10:38 am

There are a lot of leaders.
I think McDonald, Cordeiro and Uahinui are leaders, for sure.
On defense, it seems like Akoteu has really stepped up. (Remember, he was added as a co-captain after Tavai’s injury last year.)
Okeke and the other safeties have taken on leadership roles, too.

Every time somebody mentions the difference in the offensive line from the start of the 2018 spring to now, it always draws a smile. The O-line looks pretty good.

  5. Stephen Tsai May 30, 2019 10:42 am

They’re not in pads, but several people have told me that offensive lineman Ernest Moore has made a dramatic improvement. A 6-foot-8 offensive tackle with long arms and nimble feet has a lot of upside.

  6. H-Man May 30, 2019 11:27 am

Nice pics. Thanks ST for the player update. O-line is solid, but I also think the D-line is solid. Both lines have good depth.

  7. Da Punchbowl Kid May 30, 2019 11:51 am

Looking good! I’m seeing more of what I saw in the spring. Hard work now will be a lot of help later!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  8. Music Man May 30, 2019 11:52 am

Sounds like Earnest Moore should be on the defensive side of the ball?

  9. Stephen Tsai May 30, 2019 12:34 pm

I think McDonald has next-level qualities.

  10. Let's go Bows May 30, 2019 12:49 pm

Who do we anticipate starting at slot back among the wide receivers this year? Does Ward move there or stay outside? What about Stovall? Or does Sharsh just ascend from a backup role?

  11. Stephen Tsai May 30, 2019 3:50 pm

Byrd is the right slot, Ward is the right wideout.
Sharsh, Stovall and Phillips are at left slot.
Smart and Noa are at left wideout

  12. Inyoface May 30, 2019 7:57 pm

When was the last year Hawaii had all coaches returning? Can’t wait for this highly anticipated season to begin.

  13. Matt May 31, 2019 8:26 am

This season should be an interesting twist. With a Pac-12 transfer on our side, we’re ready to kick some tail, and especially with Byrd and Ward back, we’re ready to make it rain! Prior to the UC Davis Men’s basketball game, I spoke with Bobby Curran about the return of the run-and-shoot, and based upon what I got from him, he says that the team finally understands what’s to expect. So, I’m looking forward to see where 2019 will bring, and maybe another bowl appearance for Rolo and company (2 for 3 in bowl seasons).

  14. haka May 31, 2019 8:28 am

Would love to see Moore in the mix. If he supplants a starter or causes a shift, it can only be a positive to the overall quality and depth of the o-line. Very nice to hear he is doing well.

Smart looks like he could be a great find and Stovall needs to be on the field IMO.

Looking for big improvement from Hune, Russell and Akoteu also.

Ah what da heck. Every Warrior RISE!

    Go Warriors!

Because I can strum a guitar, I have some Elvis like qualities. Doesn’t mean I’m starring in the next Blue Hawaii. McDonald was on fire early last year, then his powder got wet. Not sure which guy he is. Will the real Cole McDonald please stand up, please stand up?

  16. haka May 31, 2019 9:46 am

Not making an excuse for him, but try strumming with an injury…even Elvis would wet his powder.

  17. sackkabooya May 31, 2019 9:49 am

Cole McDonald is a guy who can throw an easy deep ball, has prototypical NFL size, is gifted athletically, has pretty good pocket presence, and is in the process of mastering (especially pre snap) an NFL type offense.

I’ve seen the article where he could be a surprise first rounder. That would be quite a surprise (would be very nice for the program). His limitations all lie with his medium/short passing game. Not natural yet. Might be fixed eventually, but the mechanics are still “loopy” unless he has a certain “footwork rhythm” like he did in the Colorado St. game.

Against 8 in coverage we’ve seen him throw receivers into “hard contact” (BYU), resort to “long pitches” in lieu of a short pass wind-up (San Jose St.) and get frustrated into where it affects his “subconscious” ability (various games; Louisiana Tech). But it was the first year of this offense so lets see the adjustments this coming season.

I think Cole will be an NFL player. If not as QB at WR or utility. Special athlete, hard worker and a good person. I hope Rolovich can showcase his entire array of the skills McDonald possesses. With the O-line depth and all the weapons at the skill positions there should be a lot to digest, especially with the challenging schedule. Can Do. Terrific.

Cole played hurt part of last year, and that affected him later in the season. I’m just really happy he will be back to lead what looks like an over all highly improved team. It takes many great players to make a great team. I am anxious to see what happens next season.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

Too funny with Miles Reed wearing the Furuta jersey.

Codie Paiva: One earned run in seven-plus innings for Loyola Marymount.

I saw him pitch in the semifinal against Campbell.

I hope the other pitcher gets his life together and makes a comeback.

Klemm and a few others being sued by three former UCLA OL players. Any implications for UH coaches ?

  24. burro sabio June 1, 2019 10:13 am

Were UH coaches named in the lawsuit? Does not appear to be the case.
Did UH coaches do something similar? We don’t know.
However, this might be a little bit disheartening for those who believe that the way forward is by looking to the past, such as suggesting UH bring in damaged goods like Koetter, Klemm, or even Petino. Just a little bit.

  25. Old School Dave June 1, 2019 11:12 am

Condolences to the family of Charlie Araki. Two way lineman and key member of the 55 UH team that upset Nebraska in Lincoln. Probably one of the biggest wins in UH football history, along with the 73 win over UW in Seattle under Dave Holmes. He later went on to become the Dean of the College of Education and was a key supporter of UH Athletics. Rest in Peace Mr. Araki.

    Haka No. 17
One of the basic philosophies of sports: if you’re injured, don’t play. If you play, don’t use an injury as an excuse if you play poorly or lose. Take the results like a man. To his credit, Cole never mentioned the injury or used it as an excuse during the season. Admire that and wish him the best. Looks like UH has some ballers this season. Just wish the schedule wasn’t so tough.

  27. sackkabooya June 1, 2019 2:31 pm

Akoteu looks lighter than last year. And I’ve seen Doug Russell recently, way skinnier. I guess Batoon’s defensive philosophy calls for less bulk and more speed than he had last season up front. If Akoteu can get as quick as Zeno was (off the snap) then he could be a possible first or second team all MWC, and maybe even draft pick too. He has a pretty good motor and has “violent” everything, was just missing some explosion off the ball. Hune was quietly effective all season until Louisiana Tech game when you got to notice him more. Taala is on a similar trajectory to some of the “all time great” DL’s (Sopoaga, Tanuvasa, Purcell, Alama-Francis, Noga too?) in UH’s history. Just waiting on Tavai (a lot of eyes will be on him because of his DNA) and Doug Russell to contribute this season. Getting deep up front defensively. Terrific.
