Getting back to work

One of the few drawbacks of this job is that I often have to work while everyone else is playing, or enjoying watching others play.

I’m not complaining; it’s part of the deal and I do get to spend some time with family and friends this holiday season — in fact, I just came off a great week of vacation.

I’m looking forward to jumping back into the saddle with the start of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic today. I will be working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl and the finals of the DHC. So will many others.

A lot of other people will be working over the holidays and doing their jobs under much tougher conditions  than I ever do … and when their shifts are done, our soldiers and sailors overseas won’t be able to drive home to see their families.

It’s going to be an exciting several days at the Stan Sheriff Center and Aloha Stadium … starting today, with the president expected to attend the second game of the DHC, between Akron and Oregon State, which is coached by Barack Obama’s brother-in-law, Craig Robinson.

My holiday hope is that the games this week will provide some quality entertainment for basketball and football fans here and those watching all over the world.
