A national publication reported the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl will give participating players only a shirt as a gift. A local business publication picked up that story, then sent it out as a Twitter blast.

Thing is, the shirt is one of only several gifts. According to executive director David Matlin, the Hawai‘i Bowl will give each participating player and coach:

• Kicker EB101 Ear Bud Headphones

• iLuv i1166 Multi-Media DVD Player

• Kahala aloha shirt

• Oakley sunglasses

• Custom Hawai‘i Bowl backpack

• Commemorative Hawaii Bowl T-shirt

• Hawai‘i Bowl beach towel

• Hawai‘i Bowl visor

• A4 Performance Tee

• Aloha Calendar w/cover

• kukui nut lei

In addition, Matlin said,  the bowl provides these meals:

Royal Hawaiian Luau
Noh Foods Ala Moana Beach Park Luncheon
Barefoot Pep Rally – Sunset on the Beach – Steaks by Outback
Sheraton Waikiki Beach Party BBQ
Kick-off Banquet
Outback Steakhouse Lunch
Murphys – Na Koa Lunch
Papa Johns Pizza after the game
KFC at the Water park

Linebacker Brashton Satele has started his official appeal for an exemption that would allow him to play as a sixth-year senior in 2010. Defensive tackle Rocky Savaiigaea and offensive lineman Laupepa Letuli also will file similar appeals.

The way it works is the athletic department’s compliance people submit the appeal.

We’re told  their cases are “slam dunks.”

But one person familiar with the situation cautioned: “Phi Slamma Jamma.”

RGM found out that the Miami Dolphins are interested in him so he’s not rushing to sign with his CFL team now.

Returner/receiver Ryan Grice-Mullen isn’t in a hurry to sign either, especially after learning he is one of two veterans on the Lions who have drawn preliminary interest from the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

The team which took Cam Wake off the Lions’ hands last season recently inquired about Grice-Mullen, though a workout date has not been finalized.

“It’s just talk going around right now,” said Grice-Mullen, who isn’t discounting his contract offer from the Lions.

BCS Conference teams get *much* smaller payout rewards when they make a BCS bowl. I think that UH got $4.5 million or so for the Sugar Bowl and BSU is getting a large sum also…West Virginia actually only got $2.4 million last year for going to the Fiesta Bowl and they LOST over a million dollars due to their expenses.

“The real misconception is when somebody goes to a BCS bowl, people think you’re getting $15 million,” West Virginia senior associate athletic director Russ Sharp said. “You’re getting a fraction of that – and it costs a fortune to go to the Fiesta Bowl.”

Sharp said that the Big East’s payout to West Virginia for its trip to the 2008 Fiesta Bowl was $2,425,600, but the school’s expenses totaled $3,495,000 – for losses of $1,069,400.

Nevada must really want to boost their defense next year, as they signed 4 JC defenders that will be enrolling in their school in January so that they can go through spring practice. They will probably all play in Nevada’s game at Aloha Stadium next season.

The University of Nevada has signed four mid-year transfers who will join the program next month, head coach Chris Ault announced Wednesday. All four players are on the defensive side of the ball and will enroll in the spring semester in January and will be eligible to go through spring drills with the Wolf Pack.

The mid-year class consists of: defensive end Jared Jackson (Southwestern CC); defensive end Devon Rosa (Glendale CC); safety Chris “Bubba” Boudreaux (Palomar College) and linebacker DeAndre Boughton (Fresno City College).

“All of our mid-year transfers are defensive players who I expect to come in and compete immediately,” Ault said.

Good luck to all of the Warriors who are petitioning for their 6th season! I’m glad that they are starting the process now, but wish that things could be done even earlier. Jason Shipley received official notice from the NCAA that his 6th year was granted even before the 2008 football season was over, which was a big relief for him. He has been a HUGE contributor to Texas this year.

It seems that in the past UH has waited so long that players missed Spring Practice and even some games (Maka) due to delays.

  9. Garret December 17, 2009 6:57 am

    ST,

Thank you for the full list of gifts and meals. The Hawaii Bowl is an awesome experience for all players…and hopefully the Warriors will be there next year.

The *huge* TV ratings for college football this season hurts the chances for a playoff system to be established. If it turns out that more money can be made by regular season games, then having a big playoff than reduces the number of regular season games could be out.

CBS’ numbers for the weekly SEC showcases were up a staggering 37 percent over 2008, good for its best year since bringing college football back into its lineup in 1996, and ESPN had its best season in a decade — largely thanks to the most-watched regular season game, USC at Ohio State in September, which was also the most-watched college football game in ESPN history. ESPN, ESPN2 and NBC all saw jumps of at least 10 percent over 2008 audiences, culminating in ESPN’s most-watched Heisman ceremony.

All of which is heavy ammunition to the anti-playoff factions, whose best argument — that a playoff corrodes interest in an exciting, profitable regular season — is obviously bolstered by one of the most successful regular seasons in ages. The highest barrier to playoff reform at the moment is the lucre schools and conferences rake in from big television contracts, paydays that dwarf the potential gains of replacing the current BCS structure with a bracket. The big TV deals really grease the wheels, and increased viewership means those coffers will only get fatter when it comes time to renegotiate.

Teenage girl would played softball for 7 years is suing her high school because she was injured during a sliding drill. If this lawsuit results in a big money award, it could be a problem for all high school and college softball programs.

A Queens softball player is suing the city, claiming she busted her ankle because her high school coach never taught her how to slide.

“I’m playing right now, practicing, but I can’t sprint,” said Alina, who has played softball since she was 7.

    Garret,

Maybe non-BCS schools should look for another argument besides a championship playoff, then.

Got to find a more equitable solution or many if not all teams that aren’t BCS may have to drop down a level, which though currently unfair to those schools with excellent programs in other sports, may be the only viable way for them to continue. If like Women’s VB, the BCS siphons all the top talent, the non-BCS schools will have little to no chance of contending.

How formidable of an opponent is the Penn State’s womens volleyball team for the Wahine today?

Listening to BC show this morning he touched on this subject. And then some.

“The best collegiate womens volleyball team of all time,” BC says, as he lets on to his radio listeners. “A hundred game winning streak.”

I’m thinking okay. Stranger things have happened, hopefully it’ll happen today should the Wahine beat Penn State.

Some of BC dialogue made inferences that this Penn State womens volleyball team, 2-time National Champion, who are attempting on making it three, is so dynamic. And such a dynasty that this team is compared to the all-time great dynasties in sports, like the New England Patriot football teams and the UCLA Bruin’s basketball teams.

This may be true, I agree. I hope the Wahine start their own today.

BC goes on to concede should the Wahine beat Penn State today the volleyball world can throw out this talk about this Penn State womens volleyball team as being the greatest.

    I hope so. Go Wahine.

At this point BC is Mr. Congeniality. He remaining optimistic, and presenting the facts.

A caller calls in suggesting of how the womens volleyball teams from Japan, especially the ones that dominated the Olympics, were smallish. But were fast and passed and served the ball well. And similarly compared this year’s Wahine.

Hey, I’m thinking, this caller knows his volleyball. BC accepted what the caller said, but added not in this day and age.

BC even conveys to his listening audience a positive outlook, suggesting that if the Wahine can race out into the lead the Penn State team will feel the pressure.

I agree with BC, I’m thinking. BC goes on to hint that if Penns State feels the heat there’s a good chance the Wahine can pull off an upset.

Up until now there’s an upbeat feeling to the show, and positive outlook by BC, mixed in with facts about the Wahine’s opponent today.

As a listener up I feel both the drum beat and drum roll presented by BC leading up to today’s game and am envisioning that the Wahines have a chance today.

With four minute left in the show BC pops the balloon.

“No I don’t think the Wahine are going to win today,” he says to the audience in throwing out the thought of what he sees of the Wahine’s chances today.

With four minute left in the show, and being pretty much Mr. Congeniality throughout the show he ends the show on a sour note.

Hmm. Peculiar. No need the three sixty, BC, at the end of the show I was thinking. It’s so defeatist. A better ending to the show would have gone like this, “I’m so proud of our girls that I hope they prevail over Penn State today.”

That would have been classier. It would have ended his show on a good note. Anyway, Go Wahine I’ll be rooting all out for you today.

    A_House: Good afternoon Col.

Actually Reardon I think was being somewhat sarcastic.

He said (paraphrasing) that the Big Ten was the best – ask anyone who plays in the Big 10.

Actually, the best VB is in the Western US.

  108. Stephen Tsai December 17, 2009 11:45 am

It’s all about passing and serving. UH can pass. I think they go with the 3-point pass system, right? (Men go with 4-point system.) A perfect pass is 3 (setter can go quick to the middles or to the outside). A 2 parlays, pretty much, into sets to the pins.
What’s great is UH has three pretty good passers. And Danielson is a functional passer .

Looks like UH just got eliminated from Joshua Quezada’s list.

La Habra (Calif.) running back Joshua Quezada recently narrowed his choices to Utah and BYU and is hoping to make his decision by the end of the week.

The athlete took official visits to BYU, Hawaii, Utah and Washington before narrowing his choices to the Cougs and Utes.

  125. Kazz December 17, 2009 12:58 pm

If the Wahine play perfect and start passing well right away we can steal the 1st set from Penn State and put them in a position to play catch up. All season long they have NOT played a team as fast as us that can pass very well. All the teams in the Big Ten conference are stoic and the high sets that take forever and a day to fall back down is what Penn State is used to. If we can start seperating their huge middles and get them caught moving side to side then we can win.

Passing is the key. It always has been. Brittany Hewitt has been such a plesant surprise and she continues to play well with better competition. Gonna need to rely on her more to keep the left side blockers honest, otherwise Kanani, Aneli, and Stephanie are gonna get shut down fast! Amber Kaufman didn’t practice yesterday. Her abdominal strain must be getting tight again and that can happen when you haven’t played in a while. Sometimes injuries like that need playing time as opposed to resting it. If she cannot go tonight, then you take away a threat at the opposite side. Sure Kaufman plays in the middle, but with her step out moves she might as well be an opposite hitter on the right side, not to mention her serving game will be missed. Hopefully Amber will be ready to go. It’s a big game, so I am sure it will be VERY HARD to keep her away.

I look and hope to see Aneli getting back to her jump serves. Her jump serves can match ANYONE in the country in terms of power, speed, and accuracy. We may lack in height, but of our best servers, Aneli has the power to match Penn State.

It’s gonna be hard as hell today, but we all hope Na Wahine can overcome this Penn State team that has been unstoppable over the past two seasons.

Another good write up this morning regarding one more BIG BIG BIG obstacle for our Wahine. Good breakdown of the “signs” from earlier in the season as to what the potential of this squad could become (i.e. sweeping Stanford and UCLA, 1000 wins, etc…). Again I am PROUD to say this year’s team proved me COMPLETELY INCORRECT when I didn’t think they would have made it this far considering pre season question marks at the depth of the middle and libero positions and how newcomers Cascioppo and Forsythe were going to contribute.

But still it was hard to really tell when you have to sit through the WAC season and continuously watch the Wahine DESTROY their opponents. Even convincing wins against the PAC 10’s top teams early in the season still made many wonder what would be left in the tank.

Several things remained obvious though, such as the improvement in their digs and serving from past seasons. Today’s article used a great word to describe the serving from Brandt, Lee, and Kaufman as “annoying”. It has been. Just ask Washington last season how annoying Amber Kaufman’s jump/lob serve is. 😆

Tonight, I can sense there is no fear of what may not happen, but obviously there is excitement of what could happen.

Again, I’m just so proud and happy for these young ladies that do what they do so well at a high level. Yesterday the Sports Animals brought up the topic of the Wahine possibly moving on to win the national championship and comparing it’s significance to the Sugar Bowl appearance and 12-0 regular season run. There is no comparison, simple. The Sugar Bowl run is way more significant in terms of what it did state-wide and considering the kind of media coverage college football has over collegiate volleyball there is no question which was more “significant”, BUT within their respective sports, ANY national championship should take precedence. The Sugar Bowl isn’t a national title bowl game, college football doesn’t allow national championships at the FBS level to be decided on the field… 🙄 …. But to say that you are the best in the land out of a tournament playoff system? Well, you just can’t get any better than that!

Now, the day is upon us!!!

No pressure on our side at all. No one cared about us, even though we DOMINATED on the court all through the Stanford regional and the previous sub-regional and we DOMINATED in the stands by outnumbering the local supporters of our opponents. It’s clear what the NCAA thinks of us and it’s clear, it’s been clear for years, what the nation thinks of us. So tonight, in Florida, the Wahine shall do their thing, the one thing that they do best and that’s play volleyball!

My thoughts are with our ladies today wishing nothing but the best. The “royalty of UH athletics” will forever have my respect as it should with followers of UH athletics in general.

    nice post royvic.

i believe all of the vb world is looking past hawaii. most think that our arrival in tampa was a fluke.

i like to be in that position.

this team is so much like that 1987 team that was lead by tita ahuna. they were a smallish team who played defense and passed the ball well. they had their superstar in tee williams, a great setter, a senior middle, etc, etc.

  135. Kazz December 17, 2009 1:24 pm

Wonder what BYU and Utah pulled out to trim down his list???

Well, considering the schools, I think we can rule out “Tennessee-like” recruiting tactics… ***AHEM*** It would be safe to say that BYU and Utah didn’t do anything to assist in escorting his decision over to their side.

the running back really likes hawaii. he really does.

udub is out because they want him to play safety(?).
although byu is listed, they want him to cut his hair(?)
utah has a lot of pluses including a bevy of running backs.
hawaii, well, he can play running back, keep his hair long, and we got the top two rb’s who are seniors. we also, as we speak, have a commitment from his teammate.

what’s not to like about hawaii?

it should be a no brainer no?
(but, his mom doesn’t like the distance between our islands and the west coast. somebody get her a job with hawaiian airlines on the west coast please.)

  138. madeinhawaii December 17, 2009 1:32 pm

We really need to find a big.. low gravity type running back who can run while still holding firmly onto the ball and that isn’t afraid to block. Get a couple of those and they’ll get good looks from the scouts, too.

  139. Pride. December 17, 2009 1:36 pm

Penn State girls are quite nervous right now. Their trying to figure out how they are going to beat Texas. They know that they are better than Texas. They know that they are the best in the country. But they also know that on Saturday, Texas will come out ready to play, and will not just rollover and give them the game. Penn State girls know that they are unbeatable. But what if they lose to Texas in the finals? Just what if? How will they face their boosters and their fans? What will they do, what will they say? Yes they are very nervous. They are thinking right now that they better not lose to Texas.

The Wahine have every right to think they can beat Penn State, off course, it would require a perfect gameplan and excution,

!.) Serving .The crucible right there. If the Wahine serve their best, they can bring the big trees out of their Big Ten mode and force them to scramble.

2.) Obviously passing, but vital to have a very quick attack, the Wahine being faster, could neutralize their Block.

3.) Do not allow them large point runs, that would be deadly.

    4.) Most important, believe !!!!

    GO, WAHINE !!!!!!!!

    Don’t cry over spilled milk:

“The real misconception is when somebody goes to a BCS bowl, people think you’re getting $15 million,” West Virginia senior associate athletic director Russ Sharp said. “You’re getting a fraction of that – and it costs a fortune to go to the Fiesta Bowl.”

Sharp said that the Big East’s payout to West Virginia for its trip to the 2008 Fiesta Bowl was $2,425,600, but the school’s expenses totaled $3,495,000 – for losses.

Yeah, but how many boosters got a free ride?

In today’s Washington Post “West Virginia lawmakers appropriated $100,000 for the disbanded rifle team.” Wasn’t there some of the students in Virgina that got killed on campus?

It wasn’t that WVU’s athletic department was running a deficit. Rather, university officials concluded that the only way WVU could become more competitive in the high-stakes world of college sports was to cut five teams and spend the savings (roughly $600,000 in what was then a $27 million budget) on better facilities and more scholarships.

So, don’t cry for Virginia running a payout deficit.

  185. Garret December 17, 2009 3:21 pm

The Pac-10 has a new commissioner and he says that they will consider expanding to 12 teams. The Conference merry-go-round is really going to be crazy in 2-3 years and hopefully UH will end up in a good spot.

With potential conference expansion again all the rage, first-year Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott knew the question would be coming.

    What about Pac-10 expansion?

“Expansion is something we will take a look at,” Scott said Wednesday.

For expansion enthusiasts that will sound like a more open-minded approach than long-time commissioner Tom Hansen, whom Scott replaced over the summer.

Yes, expansion is something Scott will look at with a “fresh set of eyes” — his phrase — and the timing makes sense because the conference television contracts expire after the 2011-12 academic year.

  186. Garret December 17, 2009 3:22 pm

Expansion is a subject that has repeatedly come up since the mid-90s when the conference courted Texas and Colorado before they joined the new Big 12, but the Big Ten’s public declaration this week that it is considering adding a member to reach the 12-program threshold necessary to split into divisions and hold a championship game, makes the issue relevant again.

If the the Big Ten joins the Big 12, ACC and SEC as a 12-team conference that would leave the Pac-10 and eight-team Big East looking, well, smaller.

  187. Garret December 17, 2009 3:23 pm

So, the Pac-10 needs to expand by 2012 if they are going to get a bigger TV deal and include a conference title game in the deal…criteria for candidates are discussed here.

Programs need to be an academic and athletic match. That means admission standards and research accreditation are issues. On the athletic side, it’s not just about football. How strong is the entire athletic department? Recall the Pac-10 is the “Conference of Champions” and Olympic and women’s sports are part of that foundation.

Then there’s the biggest issue: Money. If the Pac-10 were to expand, it wants that expansion to mean more of it. There’s widespread concern that a number of the potential candidates don’t come from markets that will increase revenue.

Bringing in Utah and Colorado might be a winner (Salt Lake City and Denver markets), and at least one Pac-10 athletic director said that’s the most likely scenario. Of course, prying Colorado away from the Big 12 might not be easy.

TCU, perhaps? There are issues — distance being an obvious one — but Pac-10 coaches would salivate over a bigger potential recruiting footprint in Texas.

  188. Garret December 17, 2009 3:24 pm

That might mean expansion or not by 2012.

“The most logical time for that is when you’re going to sell your media rights,” Scott said. “This is essentially the shop window, so this would be a very natural time to consider it, if we are going to consider it.”

I guess they won’t have that chance if he goes to the Utes as I don’t know that we’ll ever play them.

Head ref is a farse too many missed call.
Ref should not be winning points. Players should be the ones to win points.

Case in point in second set there were 2 missed point for a replay.
one by a side judge and one by #1 Ref.

Two side ref called a touch in front of #1 Ref who missed a call and finally relended to give point to wahine.

In Set 4 Hodge Stumpped in front of #1 ref for a touch by wahine… That should have been YELLOW CARD. No guts by Ref #1.

This ref should never again get a match to ref any game.

Wahine didn’t lose match, head ref wanted #1 playing #2 after wahine won the first match. She definately took the momentum away from the wahine….

But Wahine sure gave them a scare after the first set.

Nice going Hawaii with hight and blocking disadvantage.

Sat through two different presentations about planned upgrades at Aloha Stadium during the Stadium Authority meeting.

The improvements to the Stadium itself have been divided into three phases. Phase One is almost complete – most of the work is structural and not that visible except for the first half of the roof replacement. Phase Two is under protest – no details given – and will include the rest of the underlying structural upgrades & the rest of the roof replacement as well as building new restrooms, adding ADA improvements, expanding current facilities and building in areas currently open, etc. Phase Three is rust removal & remediation and painting. If funding is appropriated & released and protests resolved in a timely way, all the improvements should be completed by the start of the 2012 season. Big IFs – especially the money stuff. The projects could be stretched out to the start of the 2014 season.

The other facility upgrade is expected to be in place by the USC game and will replace the current Jumbotron at the north end. You’ll be blown away when you see it.

    Please pick me, Avis.

I was gonna “rewind” the DVR to see the crap for myself as I had to listen to Charlie Wade laugh in disgust on the radio at these calls.

I just got off the phone with some peeps that saw it live and these people give me grief about being paranoid about this NCAA against Hawaii stuff, but they actually had to acknowledge the B.S. huhu garbage in Set 2 and the GOOF that took away Amber Kaufman’s opening kill.

“SOMEONE CALLS YOU A HORSE THE FIRST TIME, YOU PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE.

SOMEONE CALLS YOU A HORSE THE SECOND TIME, ASK FOR AN APOLOGY.

Last day before Winter Break and the kids will be bouncing off the walls. Rush to SeaTac to catch a 4:40 (was a 5:15) flight — school gets out at 2. Aaaaargh! Sit in a 737 for 6+ hours before stepping out into PARADISE!!!

Whoo-hoo!!! Yep. The school day will last forever.

  307. Derek December 17, 2009 6:52 pm

As in past final fours when the Wahine went that far they lost because they got outblocked. When you block somebody, they intimidate them.
That’s what happened to the Wahine, in reverse. The Wahine had a very good season, much farther than I thought they would. Kudos to them.
If there’s a suggestion to Dave Shoji, it would be to find a couple of big middle blockers like 6’5″ or 6″6. The stats say that the blocking was the difference overwhelmingly favoring Penn State. Maybe Hawaii has a better chance to win it all next year as they have a lot of good players returning and a good crop of redshirts and recruits. Good luck next year.

  319. Garret December 17, 2009 7:43 pm

Congratulations to the Wahine for a great season. They represented their school and the state well and did extremely well. There is no shame in losing to Penn State…they won 100 straight games for a reason.

  320. Garret December 17, 2009 7:46 pm

For those complaining about the refs, I understand being a homer. But the refs did NOT determine the winner today…Penn State’s awesome block did. Not giving credit to the opponent actually demeans the valiant effort that the Wahine put into this game.

One or two calls did not determine the game. Especially when one of the calls ended up being reversed and ended up being a point for UH. Plus, nobody remembers that Penn State had a legit complaint or two also in the game on calls that were not reversed.

  321. Garret December 17, 2009 7:51 pm

Things have really changed in college football. I remember when Notre Dame’s TV deal with NBC was the envy of all conferences. However, their contract is *small* compared to the SEC and Big 10 right now, one reason why it would be to their financial benefit to join the Big 10.

Each team in the Big 10 gets $20 million per year because of the Big 10 Network. That number will increase as they get more cable systems to carry them.

Each team in the SEC gets $17 million per year because of the CBS/ESPN deal. That number is guaranteed for 15 years.

Notre Dame gets $9 million per year from NBC, and the TV ratings were *way* down this year so they might get a lot less in their next contract.

When Notre Dame turned the Big 10 down last time, Notre Dame got a *lot* more TV money than the Big 10…but that was before the Big 10 Network started.

Swarbrick acknowledged that the major football conferences make even more money from their own media contracts than the $9 million Notre Dame is paid annually by NBC for the football rights. In the Big Ten, TV and radio rights fees generate $20 million a year for the schools.

  322. Ralph December 17, 2009 7:56 pm

Great season for the Na Wahine, top four, coach of the year, best academic student at the final four, an all american, and a platform to build on for the returning players. Alexis, Corinne, Tuaniga and the 2 RS will be playing faster next year. Hewitt will be better. Good height coming in with the next recruiting class, Waber is 6’3 OH, Hartong is an athletic middle with a good serve and slide-at 6’1, she’ll complement what Kaufman did for the Na Wahine. Only 8 months to wait for the next season. lol.

    To Hawaii Wahine Volleyball Team:

Thank you for the fantastic season with many “you remember da 2009 final 4 team” memories that we will take with us for years to come. You gave your heart and soul in every single game you played. You gave the best that you could, and that is all that I or anyone can ask of you. For that I thank you.

    To the seniors:

    Aneli Cubi-Otineru
    Amber Kaufman
    Stephenie Brandt
    Jayme Lee
    Catherine Fowler

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! And I wish that all of are blessed with the best that life has to offer.

    MAHALO

looking for Christmas present for azngamer808.
anyone know why there isn’t authentic UH football jerseys for sale
like in years when we had Nike?

Checked U-Dub and Alabama, they also do not sell authentic jerseys.
    Is it a NCAA thing?

  327. Ralph December 17, 2009 8:35 pm

chopsueyboy how about a pink Na Wahine jerser, auction ends this weekend. The jersey was worn by our final four Na Wahine and its for a good cause, Breast Cancer Fund

Must be the cost of them versus the demand. Even at the height of the 2007 season, UH released Colt’s #15 authentic jersey in limited supply. At 200.00 a jersey it was probably a wise choice. Saw them at the Ward location and they were a lot in stock while everything else flew off the shelves.

  330. Kazz December 17, 2009 8:43 pm

    Ralph,

My christmas present to myself is pretty much a fantasy… 🙁 In the auction, the four volleyballs signed by the entire team are all above the $400.00 range! Got out bidded three times!!!

***In related news, Brittany Hewitt’s game worn #4 jersey is nearing the $600.00 mark!!!*** 😯

Seriously though, looks like they’ll raise some good kala for a good cause!

  331. Kazz December 17, 2009 8:48 pm

New Rainbow Wahine volleyball “Road To The Championship” available on http://www.uhrainbowtique.com.

Kinda weird though because it doesn’t appear to have something on the back like the dates, final scores, and names of the opponents we WO-MANHANDLED during the WAC tourney, the sub-regional, and the Stanford regional.

    Re: Notre Dame

I’m not sure how there ever will be a Division I-A playoff when the NCAA can’t even get Notre Dame to join a league. Imagine if Duke or North Carolina decided to become a basketball independent.

Mahalo to JD for giving the Aunties seats closer to the action at the St. Pete Times Forum. My cousin’s husband saw empty seats next to JD & cajoled him to let them move down. Thanks, JD!

To all the Seniors on the Warrior and Wahine team. One BIG MAHALO for a fantastic season!
Whne the footbal team went on 6 game slide, you never gave up and kept getting better each game. You turned it arond and it was great to see you guys keep playing with pride and energy.
Wahine volleyball was FANTASTIC!. Mahalo ladies for the great season!
To the returnees and new recruits, you now have a benchmark to follow.

Next years season starts now! Do you have the will to push yourself to get bigger, stronger and better?

Can’t wait for next season. Can’t wait for baseball!

    MAHALO WARRIORS AND WAHINES!

Congratulations Nalani for being a winner today!

  338. protector December 17, 2009 10:05 pm

    Congrats, Nalani!

Sounds like Notre Dame needs to re-evaluate its disdain for affiliation.
I’m really thinking it IS time for the non-BCS schools to lobby for some anti-trust action. The rich are getting filthy richer and I don’t feel every BCS Conference team automatically deserves that largesse more than some of the worthy non-BCS teams. But nobody’s going to rock the boat in the name of equity and altruism, are they?

  339. madeinhawaii December 17, 2009 10:11 pm

Wonder what would happen if Notre Dame decided to join a non-BCS conference?

The saying a lighthouse is a beacon of hope to a lost ship is true. And so are the Hawaii womens volleyball team to all the other athletes at the university. And even to all the aspiring volleyball-playing kids across the state. The fighting spirit the Wahine exhibited in their los to a very good Penn State team serves as an inspiration to all of them. And that is why I’m so proud of the Wahine.

Does height make a difference?? Well the average height of Penn State is 6.05 while the Na Wahine is 5.7?????? I think so. But the one thing you can’t measure is heart, an there is none bigger than the Na Wahine’s. Good job girls

    good morning Tsaikos,

    royvic, very eloquent, mahalo
pomai, looking good bro, loved the surprise while watching the news last night

on a side note, the NCAA is an organization comparable to being an individual nation or country all on it’s own…..trying to navigate through some requirements for student athletes and it is bringing on a malaise of cynicism from this happy go lucky Warrior/Wildcat supporter.

Congrats to the Wahine… a great effort by all. Stand tall and stand proud 🙂
