Thursday part II: Arizona in, UH lineup, streaming

As mentioned on previous thread, no announcement about UH lineup. But based on today’s practice, seems pretty close to what my guess was a few days ago. Or maybe it was yesterday. the days are blending in.
Anyway, thinking
S: Higgins
M: Maglio, Castillo
Opp: Koelsch
OH: Granato, Greeley/Sibley (Greeley back row for passing, Sibley front row)
L: Kahakai

May or many not have updated this but they are going to do the Challenge Replay System starting this weekend. will only be for the tournaments, not sure if they’ll use it for Pepperdine. But not for Big West since the other schools don’t have the capability.

Arizona got in today on the direct from Phoenix. first practice in the arena. Rubio said they were a little banged up. Mau has a shoulder issue and Pilepic pinkie.

Think the thread getting too long regarding streaming so if you want to continue discussion here, please do.
To recap:
From what Schmidt told me and others, they are working on getting things worked out. They’ve spoken with the Big West. Dan has listened to the people who have called and emailed him, said he appreciates the passion and understands the frustration. I’ve know him for a long time and don’t feel there isn’t any reason not to believe what he says.

The Big West calls for streaming of women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball. don’t know if men’s volleyball will be added when the Big West officially adds the sport.

Ran into Tuileta today. he is at KCC while trying to get his credits in order to transfer to UH. Said he still wants to play both sports and that he’s happy to be home.

How can Tuileta be a punahou grad a USC transfer and not be qualifier for manoa. Where’s the accountability.

  2. Ki August 25, 2016 8:21 pm

We should have kept KFVE as home of UH Sports. They did a fantastic job.

  3. tongo August 25, 2016 8:50 pm

IMO, online streaming of UH sports and especially wahine volleyball is the lifeblood that keeps mainland based fans emotionally connected with UH. No disrespect to Cindy’s reporting or blog, but it is real time broadcast that keeps many distant fans – both alumni and ex-islanders coming to UH matches in the mainland, as well as continuing to support the school.

IMO, it is up to the UH administration to resolve the issue with OC Sports and Big West Conference before this large fan base and its support wither away. It would be incredibly foolish.

Cindy, mahalo for the update on Tuileta.

Rabbit ears, yes he’s a USC transfer but we don’t know how well he was doing at USC. It’s possible he didn’t earn credits in all of his classes. Anyhow I hope he qualifies to enroll at Manoa because it would be great to see him suit up for the Warrior volleyball team.

  5. Warriorfan August 25, 2016 9:00 pm

i am sure Tui was a qualifier just probably didn’t have enough credits.l to transfer.
Hope Tui makes it he would be a huge boost for the Warriors with his serve and backrow play also crossing my fingers Rado Parapunov makes it seems he’s not in hawaii yet.

I wonder if some warrior recruits will be making their visits this weekend, Charlie always brings them during the wahine tourneys.

Shoji may wish to do a double swap out of Higgins and Granato in the 3rd set. (Unable to block due to tired legs.)

My reply from Dan Schmidt includes the following words – “Finally, it is possible that the University of Hawai’i will undertake the solution you suggest…a single camera with no announcers…until we can create a long-term solution.” So there is faint, flickering hope, and my fingers are crossed – this weekend I would watch ANY of your killer matches which didn’t conflict with UCLA’s weekend at LMU.

It was mentioned in the other thread that Maglio may play 6 rotations with Koelsch being replaced by the libero. And Greeley playing back row for Sibley. Does that mean we won’t see Anderson or Ponce or Guinasso?

  9. Haleiwacrossfitter August 26, 2016 5:47 am

I thought Sibley had a solid all around back row game? Maybe not up to par yet? Or just trying to get KG on the court as much as possible?

I also wish K5 kept the contract. I love women’s soccer, too. They show maybe 4 during the whole season. It sucks.

Hi Cindy, is Annie and Nikki still doing hitting drills? They need to stay up to speed on their hitting at least. Since both injuries are non hitting hands. Hoping they are staying in playing shape. Doing blocking exercises, just don’t raise the left arm, defense stuff, etc.

  10. islandman August 26, 2016 6:15 am

    9. Cindy said Annie is doing hitting drills. I don’t think Nikki can do those since you use your left arm , elbow included, for leverage or whatever you call it.

  11. noblesol August 26, 2016 6:34 am

    9. As far as Nikki doing hitting drills, I wouldn’t think so. Let her heal up. She’s already played a lot of VB this year. Some rest and recuperation will help her more then more drills. She’ll come back when she’s ready.

  12. blunite August 26, 2016 7:36 am

–>#8: It may very well be the case. In addition to the 4 subs/rotation (Cindy’s lineup) Shoji needs to keep subs for Higgins, Granato, and maybe Kahakai (1st game jitters like last year.)

Just finished reading the Wahine VB Special. Super!!
    Mahalo.

Warriorfan – #5 – Charlie & Milan are in Sydney with the football team.

  15. Kazu August 26, 2016 8:56 am

13 Where did you see the Wahine volleyball special. Must missed it.

  16. Cindy Luis August 26, 2016 9:01 am

    1. Thanks for everyone who answered about Tui.
We don’t know what his academic situation is other than he left SC and is at KCC. He was a qualifier out of high school.
But he has a new look. shaved his head. said hair was too much to take care of.

    2. Keeping KFVE wasn’t an option since KFVE isn’t the same station as it was back in the day. Most of their crew moved to OCSports.

    3. no disrespect taken. But with most of the top administrators in Australia, don’t see it being resolved this weekend. Will let you know if it is.
I remember that when USAV women were here vs. China last year they had issues with streaming from here as well. They also wanted to sync with radio but couldn’t make that work.

    6. don’t know what the plan. Don’t know who might have tired legs. I’m sure they’ll adjust as needed.

    7. don’t see the single camera happening this weekend.

    8. It seems like they will libero-out for Koelsch. Then a DS will serve with the libero coming back in after the DS is done with serving turn. Anderson is still No. 1 sub but they do like Smith and Guinasso has played well. Then there’s Ponce.

    9. Mitchem is participating in practice except for blocking. Taylor is not cleared to fully practice. she did some warmups but spent a lot of time yesterday on the sidelines with the stimulator.

    13. glad you liked it. took a lot of cooperation from many people.

    15. special in today’s paper and online.

  17. Kazu August 26, 2016 9:24 am

Thanks Cindy, guess i’ll go get me a paper since i usually save these.
