As expected, hope they win gold. Much more interested in the men this time than the womens team.

I’m just as interested in the men’s team as the women’s team even though none of the women are from Hawaii. I simply enjoy watching the longer rallies of the women.. As for the chance of winning gold, it will be extremely tough against Brazil the home team. Someone else will have to beat them at the crossover so USA won’t have to meet them a second time. At least USA men didn’t have to meet Brazil in the World Cup last year. That’s how they were able to win. Just the other day, Brazil at home beat USA in four sets in the World League. They just bomb at the service line. Brazil is in the same round robin group as USA for the men. The women are lucky to escape Brazil in the round robin but woe if they have to face them in the crossover elimination round. I wish some other team could eliminate them first like China. Just this week China beat Brazil at home in three straight sets in the World Grand Prix. But when Brazil returns to play at home in the Olympics, it will be a different story.

And of course, a round of congrats well deserved for the three former Hawaii high school volleyball players, the Shoji brothers and Michael Christensen. I’ll be really glad if they ca win any color of medal.

Any word if OC Sports will once again start streaming UH Sports online this coming season, especially Wahine Volleyball?

    2. agree that it will be difficult to medal with such a young team. 8 players in their first Olympics. average age is 27. 8. Most of the 12 are under 30.
