  10. greenthumb December 11, 2015 3:41 pm

Well this answers the question of syncing the much better 1420 audio and the espn3 audio. But really, what is espn thinking? I hope Penn State fans join in our frustration.

  11. Ashley December 11, 2015 3:41 pm

this is outrageous. what the heck is happening

  12. greenthumb December 11, 2015 3:41 pm

    5-4 us ahead

  13. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 3:42 pm

It’s live. my bad about the time. Match at 335 hist

  16. Brandon December 11, 2015 3:44 pm

there is no link. Thats why we are confused.

  17. greenthumb December 11, 2015 3:44 pm

Cindy, the espn3 link for our match disappeared. only the other 3 vb matches today are showing up. Please delete this comment if not appropriate, but espn3 what the heck?? I hope the coaches let you know how rude this is to the fans of two noted Sweet 16 teams.

  18. greenthumb December 11, 2015 3:45 pm

guys, the only remnant of a link is from the hawaiiathletics link on the schedule page. i hope the tweeters can light up espn and some other folks.

  19. Huh? December 11, 2015 3:46 pm

The last volleyball telecast that’s scheduled is UCLA/Texas, supposedly started at 3 p.m. Hawaii time.

I can’t even find a link to the UH-Penn State match. Anyone else having same problem?

    Thank goodness for Tiff/1420.

  20. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 3:46 pm

The live stats is ahead of the radio

  31. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 3:54 pm

Taylor with a roll shot. UH up 19-16. TO PSU

  32. Don December 11, 2015 3:55 pm

    Russ blinked first…TO PSU…

  33. T103 December 11, 2015 3:57 pm

I no can handle lol! So mad. BUT I’ll settle for radio over nothing. LETS GO BOWS!!

  34. Big Island VB fan December 11, 2015 3:58 pm

This is so disappointing and maddening! Maybe next year UH should go for an undefeated regular season and capture one of the four seeds. Since the regionals are not predetermined, maybe Hawaii could get one of the top four seeds and host a regional and then have our own local TV station televise it instead of unreliable ESPN3. They don’t deserve televising rights on Hawaii’s home court after flubbing this big time! And only the Hawaii match they didn’t broadcast! What happened to them?

  35. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 3:58 pm

    UH up 22-17. to pau

  36. LanaiBoy December 11, 2015 3:59 pm

    Hurray? Hawaii up 22-17!

  37. 'ohanaInBellingham December 11, 2015 4:00 pm

pau…not yet, Cindy. Two more sets! šŸ™‚

  38. haleiwacrossfitter December 11, 2015 4:00 pm

The link has been completely taken down…even from the upcoming section

  39. rayboyjr December 11, 2015 4:00 pm

At least they don’t butcher the names on radio … Go BOWS!!!

  40. Row13 December 11, 2015 4:01 pm

Tiff Wells’ play-by-play call on radio is great, almost makes up for no TV feed.

  41. greenthumb December 11, 2015 4:01 pm

So I go to ESPN’s page and fill out a feedback form. Submit. Get “null” message that won’t let me submit!

  42. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 4:01 pm

    34. ESPN has the TV rights.
don’t think UH will host the regional. there are no predetermined sites. so the highest seed after the second round will host the regional.
    UH up 23-19

  43. Maverick December 11, 2015 4:01 pm

ESPN really screwing it up. Both the UH and LMU matches haven’t yet started streaming and both matches have started. Kansas 1-0 up on LMU already.

  44. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 4:03 pm

UH had 2 set points, first at 24-20. PSU on a 2-0 run TO UH

  45. mo-jo December 11, 2015 4:03 pm

    What da….. Cr__

  46. oldtimer808 December 11, 2015 4:06 pm

  53. Don December 11, 2015 4:08 pm

Does anyone have a functioning video feed?

  54. Warrior Dave December 11, 2015 4:10 pm

Wahine appear to be very focused throughout set 1. Keep it up girls!!

  55. Maverick December 11, 2015 4:10 pm

ESPN app no longer lists the UH or LMU matches. What a monumental failure. If this doesn’t change, then no tv at all.

  56. greenthumb December 11, 2015 4:10 pm

Can anyone tell me what the symbol and name is to tweet at ESPN and/or ESPN3? I just set up a twitter because of this lol. Thanks.

And the Wahine continue in Set 2 šŸ™‚

  57. Warrior Dave December 11, 2015 4:11 pm

thanks for all the help. ‘Net keeps going out. UH up 5-3 in Set 2

  61. Don December 11, 2015 4:13 pm

  62. rayboyjr December 11, 2015 4:14 pm

    http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/id/2691490/

Horrible … this link to the game now says …

“The event you have selected will be available on replay. Please check back soon.”

Disgusted … so sad … horrible ESPN …

    … but GO BOWS!!!!!!!

  63. T103 December 11, 2015 4:14 pm

Sounds like all the lifts and nets aren’t being called? I’m not there in person, you would think, if this is really the case, during the regionals they would have legit refs?

  64. ionw December 11, 2015 4:16 pm

    yeah wahine rockin still.

  70. noblesol December 11, 2015 4:18 pm

I’m thankful for Cindy and Tiff. ESPN3 though, a huge fail. I’ve left them feedback. Suggest everyone find a way to let them know how badly they blew it at an opportune time.

  81. Uncle Fester December 11, 2015 4:30 pm

Can’t get a thing here in Tokyo. Please keep people like us up-to-date.

  82. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 4:32 pm

  83. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 4:36 pm

    #keep it up! one more!

  111. 'ohanaInBellingham December 11, 2015 4:52 pm

Our hitters are digging very well. Well-balanced digging game by UH. Awesome, TMO!

  112. Maverick December 11, 2015 4:54 pm

All middles and outsides for UH are hitting over .300. When was the last time you saw them do that, even against Big West competition? The winner of this match, IMO, will continue the impressive hitting performance. Another thought…the margin for error is so small. PSU is hitting an impressive .293, and three of their four top attackers are hitting above .350. UH has only scored five more points overall. With two tall teams, blocks are few. But UH has been helped with all three OHs hitting on all cylinders, including TMO at .375. And team is hitting nearly .400. WOW!

  113. Andrew December 11, 2015 4:54 pm

On the ESPN3 broadcast the announcers are talking like the match is tied. They hardly seem to be batting an eye that UH is up 2-0

  114. Andrew December 11, 2015 4:56 pm

If PSU was up 2-0 they would be eating that up and talking about the defending champs this defending champs that

  115. Brandon December 11, 2015 4:57 pm

LETS GO LADIES! YOU CAN DO THIS!

  118. Brandon December 11, 2015 4:59 pm

ka ‘aina o hawai’i finally crushes the defending national champion penn st in a sweep! shoji is happy for the first time he outcoached the tactical mastermind of russ rose!

  155. bleachercoach December 11, 2015 5:27 pm

  156. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 5:27 pm

    147. start time I was given is 330. supposed to be ESPNU

  157. greenthumb December 11, 2015 5:28 pm

Radio just said 2:30 HST start with radio pregame @ 2:20 HST … Assoc. Coach Hall on the radio now

  158. haleiwacrossfitter December 11, 2015 5:29 pm

The regionals usually are on target on espnu. Let’s just hope that they don’t screw it up tomorrow

  159. heluhelu December 11, 2015 5:30 pm

“2:30?” Dunno. Just going by NCAA bracket sheet (all times Eastern)

  160. T103 December 11, 2015 5:31 pm

Can someone check on start time tomorrow? Radio said 230 tomorrow, the online newspaper stated 330?

  161. EA December 11, 2015 5:31 pm

Where do we get ESPN U?

  162. heluhelu December 11, 2015 5:36 pm

    150. 3:30? Mystery deepens. I don’t know anything beyond NCAA bracket sheet. (6:30 ET = 1:30 HT)

  163. warriorfan December 11, 2015 5:36 pm

Yes. Had a feeling Tai would get out of her funk, just hope she keeps playing well against the Gophers too.

IMO the wahine serve really won them the game, they need to keep serving tough, they might have overall the toughest serves left in the tournament.

  164. HawaiiMongoose December 11, 2015 5:36 pm

    WOOHOO!!

  165. greenthumb December 11, 2015 5:37 pm

And meantime the ESPNU schedule says 1:30

    http://www.locatetv.com/listings/espnu#12-Dec-2015

  166. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 5:37 pm

for those who didn’t see the stat line.
    taylor 18-5-36
    Manu-Olevao 14-1-26. 2 of the team’s 3 aces.

  167. greenthumb December 11, 2015 5:39 pm

Looks like it is the second match of the day. The first one is showing as 11 a.m. So maybe the venue made the change to have a safe buffer and ESPN and NCAA didn’t update the charts yet?

  168. RalphToo December 11, 2015 5:40 pm

Nawahine and PSU now available on ESPN3 replay.

  169. menehune December 11, 2015 5:40 pm

Wow, a complete team victory. TMO has been vindicated..

    Three down, three to go.

    LET’S GO BOWS.

  170. heluhelu December 11, 2015 5:40 pm

But just like NCAA to sked Hawaii for late match Friday, (2nd) early match Saturday.

  171. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 5:42 pm

gotta go write. be back later.

  172. heluhelu December 11, 2015 5:42 pm

Well, not that ANYONE at NCAA expected Hawaii to beat PSU. Do they hate Russ Rose too? (removes tinfoil hat)

  173. Warrior Dave December 11, 2015 5:45 pm

Great job Wahine!!! Might be the best match you played all year. Didn’t panic and played steady all match. Everyone contributed to this great win. Good luck tomorrow, whatever time you play.

  174. warriorfan December 11, 2015 5:48 pm

Interesting thing about tomorrow’s match Minnesota has never beaten Hawaii, we need to stay undefeated against them!!!

Today UH finally beat PSU now need to keep out streak over Minnesota alive.

  175. Big Island VB fan December 11, 2015 5:54 pm

Cheers to the Wahines for a historic victory against Penn State!
Jeers to ESPN3 for crashing our first half of the party. No excuse!

  176. makaainana23 December 11, 2015 6:01 pm

I wonder where Ali Longo is today. Bet she’s smiling. She’s the transfer from Penn State who was a terrific libero for UH two and three seasons ago.
Na Wahine, keep on rolling. All Hawaii is behind you!
Show how bad the NCAA selection process is. Just win it all!

  177. Ashley December 11, 2015 6:06 pm

i missed my afternoon nap today because i was so amped up and excited for this match that my body refuse to go down. a couple of things, heard our radio commentator say that this win would be the biggest upset in the tournament, and that it would send shockwaves throughout the tournament. well, if i were the other teams remaining seeing Hawaii upsetting the defending national champions would shake me up a bit. lol.

also Dave you said your team played their best match against TAMU, well now you can erase that and say that tonight’s upset was your teams best match.

this was such a team effort, Higgins got everyone involved and really did a fantastic job setting the ball high. i am so proud of this team, and even more excited for tomorrow

  178. DaBeautifulGame December 11, 2015 6:09 pm

How long does it take to have a newbie-to-the-site’s comments posted?

  179. warriorfan December 11, 2015 6:18 pm

Tayler set her best match. Come on wahine you can get to final four, just keep serving tough and feed the middles, I expect Maglio to step it up tomorrow.

  180. kahuna December 11, 2015 6:22 pm

I was so nervous about this match that I refused to follow any of the telecast or broadcast. Imagine my sheer delight when I enter this site to a 3-0 sweep!!!!!

Congrats Dave and those wonderful gals!

  181. T103 December 11, 2015 6:33 pm

Anyone have a breakdown of what Minnesota’s weaknesses are in observation of their season games?

  182. Cindy Luis December 11, 2015 6:34 pm

    to confirm match time Saturday
    1:30 HST.
    ESPNU OC 221

  183. haka December 11, 2015 6:39 pm

To the those that think they know better than Coach Shoji…
To those who have bashed Tai relentlessly…
To those that have criticized Tayler…
To those that think they have all the answers…
    Your opinions are noted…
    But please…
    Know your limitations…
    Please…

  184. PBnJz December 11, 2015 6:42 pm

This may have been the best $650 I ever spent on a plane ticket!

A little hoarse from cheering…so getting a Long Island to soothe it…and a grill cheese at a very crowded sports bar!
UM fans leaving as I came in…high5d me after finding out we swept! Had to circle the whole place to find a seat at the bar…another table of folks also congrat’d me (for our Wahine’s win) with high5s.
Got carded coming in, then guy said “wow” which I assumed for my age being well over 21…he paused and said it was because of the HI I’d! That was nice!
Also, warriorfan, I could have sworn a lesser (than UH) team beat us in the Nat’l Semi-Final match in Dallas in 2003…or was FL the lesser team who beat us that yr and USC beat Minn to make the Final?

  185. greenthumb December 11, 2015 6:47 pm

80 … folks in arena, did it feel like a neutral site? From what you saw in the arena today, any sense of which fan group is larger, Hawaii or Minnesota?

  186. DaBeautifulGame December 11, 2015 6:50 pm

Thank you moderator! First post got lost in cyberspace but no worries, no harm no foul just glad to be part of a good blog with decent respectable volleyball fanatics :o)

TMO was in the zone! OMG was unstoppable. Kahakai is hoover, digging blasts and popping em back up almost perfectly. Beautiful to watch.

  187. mo-jo December 11, 2015 6:51 pm

passing in the last two games was excellent. This gave us a lot of options.
i think we’ve seen better serving in the Big West. (thoughts)?
Na Wahine playing at a high level now and with confidence after Texas…
Hope this continues… Now back to watch USC-Craighton. USC lost the first set.

  188. PBnJz December 11, 2015 8:32 pm

First, not sure what ya’ll are talking about “first match” tomorrow…there is only one…the Regional Final of UH vs UM.
From someone in the arena: MN definitely has the bigger crowd…it’s only a 3-4 hr drive from the Twin Cities.
Also, could not hear any of the arena announcer’s comments during the match, nor could I tell that at anyone was cheering for UH besides the other UH friends/family sitting near me and the cheerleaders/band at the other end of the arena. Had to read lips of cheerleading coach to figure out what cheer they were doing…f&f mainly stuck with “Let’s Go ‘Bows!”, regardless of what cheerleaders were doing! (as we normally do!)

  189. Maverick December 11, 2015 8:42 pm

Posters have been wondering if this has been UH’s best match of the season. Sure passes the eye test, given the opponent, but I can give a fairly convincing argument that this is the best that any PSU opponent has played against the Nittany Lions all season. These are the facts:

    1. UH hit .389 for the match. The next highest that a PSU opponent hit was Iowa at .283 (Iowa still lost).
    2. UH hit .161 pts. higher than PSU. Next highest was Nebraska, .115 pts. higher last month in its 3-0 win over the Lions.
    3. No other PSU opponent had five players hit .250+ for the match (min. 10 attempts) and three players hit .300+ (min 10 att.).
    4. For a 3-set match, UH had only 10 hitting errors, the lowest of any PSU opponent, and its 3.33 errors/set is the lowest in all PSU’s matches. In a 3 set match, Minnesota and Nebraska managed only 14 errors each earlier in the season against PSU.
    5. PSU had 3 team blocks and 1 blk/set, PSU lows for a 3-set match (for the first stat) and for any match (for second stat).
    6. UH had 13 more assists than PSU, or 4.33/set more. NW had 13 more assists in its win over PSU, but that was a 5-set match. No other opponent had such an assist advantage.
    7. For only the fourth time this year, PSU was out-blocked by an opponent. The others were Minnesota (twice) and Nebraska.
    8. Finally, and most impressively, UH had a season-high 73% side-out percentage for a PSU opponent (next highest was the Nebraska win at 66%)–side-out stats not available for all PSU matches, but still very, very impressive.

IMHO, UH dominated PSU like no other opponent has this year.

A tip of the hat to Des Moines Register for some putting up some great pics of the Wahine, their coaches, and fans!

    http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=34860

new thread up because it’s Saturday in Des Moines.

    189. thanks Mav as always.
one other thing to point out.
of the 8 teams left, Hawaii the only one to have played a Power-5 team in every round.

    190. interesting since there’s been zero coverage in the print edition this week.

  192. tongo December 11, 2015 8:57 pm

For those who do not have ESPN access, a poster has uploaded the PSU match. Link is to Volleytalk thread for the match: http://volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/61371/match-thread-hawaii-moines-regional?page=37

  193. PBnJz December 11, 2015 8:57 pm

Wow, those are some great photos!

  194. warriorfan December 11, 2015 8:57 pm

Another interesting fact, the last two teams to beat PSU in the tournament ( they have only lost 3 times in the past decade in the tournament) UCLA and Oregon went on to the finale. UCLA won and Oregon lost.
